00:00Okay, this is a football Friday, football Friday. Yeah, and we had a Dylan Larkin news this morning for people
00:08just joining us. He released a statement basically saying I'll be a training camp focused on the season ahead and
00:13the guys in the room, but he will talk to to new leadership when it is in place.
00:17The Red Wings then released a statement. We don't know who said this. We look forward to seeing Dylan and
00:24the rest of the teammates a little season for the start of training camp as we prepare for the upcoming
00:27season.
00:29Dylan is under contract as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. Any conversations regarding his future with the club
00:33will take place privately. There will be a new hockey operations leader. When a new hockey operations leader is named,
00:40Red Wings will begin 26-27 without a captain. Any further discussions regarding the topic will be made once the
00:45new hockey operations leadership is in place.
00:47Which does make some sense when you think about it and people have been responding to this. Mike says glad
00:54we finally got some sort of acknowledgement here, but this is a total nothing burger from Dylan. After all the
00:59drama, I'd expect some mention of the fan city, etc. Still no transparency about why the GM is taking so
01:04long.
01:05I think this was as sterile of a statement as you can release from both sides, and I understand why.
01:13This is just putting it out there, getting something out there a week before training camp.
01:17They need to name a GM first before the real nitty gritty gets going.
01:22And once they name the GM and they get him up at a podium and he can talk about, well,
01:28I've talked with Dylan and this and that.
01:29And then once you get a training camp next week, when all the cameras and microphones are there, then they'll
01:34talk.
01:34Scott writes in, that's it. It's an AI-generated statement. AI is our GM. Think about it.
01:40We'll have the only GM that can name all the free agents in less than one second and find the
01:44nearest Taco Bell from anywhere on Earth.
01:47That's a great quality.
01:49I don't doubt it, man, at this point, dude. Honestly.
01:52AI GM!
01:54First of all, AI is taking over everything, right?
01:57Secondly, they literally don't have a GM, so someone, something had to make this statement.
02:02And it is a sterile, generic statement because they just had to put something, because we're getting so close to
02:06training camp here.
02:06They have to acknowledge the elephant.
02:08It's obvious. The elephant in the room, Larkin's still here. We don't have a GM.
02:12In many ways, the Red Wings were playing chess.
02:14We can't trade you if we don't have a GM.
02:17What do you want us to do, right?
02:19Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
02:21See, it's that thinking meme.
02:23Yeah, they're really, they're a step ahead in this organization, isn't it?
02:27Where is the nearest Carmel Apple Empanada?
02:29Yeah, right.
02:32Predictions for the Lions. We'll have ours in the 11 o'clock hour.
02:34Let's go to Matt in St. Clair Shores. You're on 97.1. Hello, Matt.
02:38Hey, boys. Good to talk to you again.
02:39What's up?
02:41So, I'm kind of between 12 and 13 wins. I think it's going to be a pretty good season.
02:44So, in honor of Gator, I'm going to go 12-4-1.
02:48I really, when I saw the roster come out, I was surprised by how many linebackers we kept.
02:55So, I think it's going to be a pretty zone-heavy defensive scheme.
03:00People forget Rodrigo was a safety at Oklahoma State before we drafted him as a linebacker.
03:05So, I think there's going to be a lot more zone to protect the cornerbacks and the safeties, which we
03:11all know is going to be a struggle.
03:14I think the offensive line is going to gel.
03:15You know, the left guard is going to be tough, but when you've got Penny Sewell right next to him,
03:20I think that's going to be a tremendous help for whoever they plug in.
03:22And I think we're going to have a pretty good year, boys.
03:25Well, I mean, I think it's right there for the taking.
03:27I already tipped my hand yesterday on what kind of season I think it's going to be.
03:30But, Matt, that's an interesting take on the defense, and coming off the hearing Kelvin Shepard about they tried some
03:36stuff out, figured out what they're good at, what they don't like, and maybe if they come out, we'll discover
03:42that it is indeed heavy zone concepts defensively.
03:46All right. Enjoy your hand, boys.
03:47Yep. You too. 248-539-9797.
03:51Feedback coming into the Kersh and Anderson inbox.
03:54Make sure you sign your text, by the way, because at the end of the year, if you have a
03:58great prediction, an elite prediction,
03:59you'll want to get credit for it, right?
04:02Absolutely.
04:04Jamil in a truck says, I say the Lions go 14-3.
04:06I think the front seven will be dominant, and the secondary will do just enough.
04:10The high-powered offense will put up 40 and 50 burgers for the majority of the season.
04:17That's a lot of points.
04:19There's a lot of points.
04:21From Mike, Vegas-bound in a week, currently in Colorado.
04:26I wonder if there's a guy, was it Mike that texted us yesterday that was going to Vegas?
04:30Tweeted us and wanted some advice?
04:32May have been.
04:33He tweeted back, because we gave him some advice of things to do.
04:36Yeah.
04:38Let me see if I can find it.
04:39Oh, he tweets us, because this listener says, hey, I'm going to Vegas with the wife.
04:43What are some things I should do while I'm in Vegas?
04:46We're like, I?
04:48Is he ditching the wife while he's there?
04:50He tweeted back, thanks, guys.
04:52And no, I'm not going to abandon the wife and go off by myself.
04:58Anyway, here's Mike, Vegas-bound in a week, from Colorado.
05:01I'm going to go out in a women's say they go 12-5.
05:03I feel like the offense will be a top-five offense, and the defense will be better, even
05:07though I'm skeptical of the secondary.
05:10I think both can be true.
05:11I think it's fair to be skeptical of the secondary, and I do think the defense will be better.
05:17I agree 100% with that statement.
05:20I'm not going to believe it until I see it with the secondary, and yet I fully trust the
05:25front seven of this defense.
05:26I think they're going to get after the quarterback.
05:28I think quarterbacks in this league against the Lions are going to be under duress from
05:33moment one.
05:34Tyler Shuck, get ready, because you're going to be all types of in a hurry and on your
05:39back in this game on Sunday.
05:41Tom in Grand Rapids, you're on 97.1.
05:43Hello, Tom.
05:45Hey, good morning, fellas.
05:46Real quick, the Wings aren't management leadership, isn't playing chess.
05:51They're playing checkers.
05:52They've had way too much time with us.
05:53It's disappointing.
05:54They are more prepared.
05:55But quickly on the Lions, I'm going to go 13 games at the Lions.
05:59I'm going to tell you why.
05:59I think some of our best teams in Detroit, or yeah, 13 wins, some of our best teams in
06:04Detroit had to lose first in order to learn how to win.
06:07If you think about great Pistons teams, if you think about other teams that have been
06:10successful, they had to go through that.
06:12And I think this team has gone through some of that and is ready to take a next step.
06:16And from a defensive standpoint, I do think the secondary is a question, but I also think
06:20it's a question of pressuring the quarterback.
06:23That secondary will become appreciably better if we can put consistent pressure on a quarterback
06:27and make them spin in that backfield and so forth.
06:31And that's going to help a ton.
06:32The way people talk about the Lions' pass defense, because let's face it, that's what this is
06:36really about.
06:36It's about concerns that they're going to give up 11 billion yards in passing.
06:41But if you look at the Lions were like 21st, 22nd in pass defense last year, not great,
06:48but also not horrifically bad.
06:52Like, it's...
06:52No, they had their moments where they were horrifically bad, but it felt like it was
06:58situational when they were bad.
06:59Yeah.
07:00Like, you can't let the Vikings beat you twice in a season with the quarterbacks that they
07:04threw out at you, and yet they did.
07:05You know, there was the moment that they had Aaron Rodgers all types of bottled up until
07:09he wasn't, and against the Steelers, and that sucked.
07:12It was those situations that third and got to get the stop and didn't get the stop.
07:18From an unnamed texter who didn't...
07:22Sign your text.
07:23I'm going on the record of 9-8.
07:24I don't think the offensive line is much better than last year, and the secondary is the worst
07:28in football.
07:31Well, the secondary being the worst in football didn't translate to them having the worst
07:35pass defense in football last year.
07:37They were 21st in pass defense.
07:39But are they worse this year than they were last year?
07:40Because they're starting the season without either one of those two guys.
07:44One of them will be back.
07:45The other one seems dicey.
07:49But, you know, is the pass rush going to be better?
07:53I hope so.
07:54Seems like it.
07:55Hopefully more consistent, but I think Hutchinson is, I said yesterday, defensive player of
08:00the year.
08:00Well, UNT are on the board at 9-8.
08:02The Lions record this year will be 12-5.
08:05They will lose a couple of close games.
08:06That's from Alex and Evan.
08:08Many, many games are close.
08:10In the NFL.
08:11I remember early.
08:13Well, I say this because.
08:15Fair dinkum.
08:16When I got to the station, I was doing some shows with Terry Foster, the great Terry Foster.
08:23And I was like, God, they were so close.
08:25And he would always look at me and go, young Douglas.
08:29All games in the NFL are close.
08:32And he was more right than wrong.
08:33More right than wrong.
08:34Way more right than wrong when it comes to the NFL.
08:36Yep.
08:36But then you have a game like last night and 20-point separation.
08:39You're like, yeah, that can happen as well.
08:422-4-8-5-3-9-97-97 from an unnamed texter.
08:46Again.
08:47Oh, nope.
08:47Sorry.
08:48I read this one already.
08:4813-4.
08:49Oh.
08:50Because Gibbs will be the offensive player of the year and Sewell will be protector of
08:53the year.
08:57Is he babysitting?
08:59Who's that?
08:59Sewell?
09:00Sewell?
09:00No.
09:02How do you know when it's football season?
09:04I'm hyped up when my university posts a video of the band marching and playing the school
09:08fight song.
09:09In my case, it's the greatest fight song, The Victors.
09:13Then they cut in game highlights as well.
09:15I learned a ton of those last week.
09:19How's it going to work tomorrow?
09:21Dude, I got to tell you, what do you mean?
09:24I guess, I mean, there's like two highlights from last week that you can show to get the
09:28crowd fired.
09:30I suspect that crowd is going to be very fired up by showing a Hail Mary.
09:33Yeah.
09:34Yes.
09:34I mean, they didn't storm the field.
09:36I did tell you that I said in jest that when we were putting together Inside Michigan
09:41Football, which we kind of map out while the game is going on, I turned to Jansen and we
09:47sent a message to the producer.
09:48We're going to have to Jansen vision the flyover, which is where John takes the telestrator.
09:54And we've actually done it with non-football plays before.
09:58Jansen, when he got a piece, a big hunk of meat at the, I think it was Nebraska last
10:03year.
10:03And we had him circle the best part of the, it was like holding it like Fred Flintstone
10:09by the, it was like a bone in or something.
10:12But anyway, yeah, we Jansen vision that we're going to Jansen vision the flyover the way that
10:16game was going.
10:17Crispin Farmington Hills says 12 and five lines will have issues with the secondary.
10:20See them losing one to Green Bay later in the season.
10:23Buffalo Patriots and two, they should not lose.
10:26Oh, there always are stinkers.
10:28Jason says nine and eight.
10:29We'll start the season one and three.
10:30Secondary is hot garbage.
10:32We'll miss the playoffs.
10:35Lions go 13 and four and reclaim the North bears finished last in the division.
10:38That's from Mike at work.
10:40Get your picks in for the lion season.
10:41We got breaking Jalen Duren news next.
