00:00Something from yesterday's Tiger game really set John Jansen. Oh, yeah off. We'll get to that at 635 about a
00:06half hour away. We're into draft week John. We'll make time for the Pistons later. Got a couple days between
00:13games here season finally comes to a head. That's not lose sight of the fact that yeah, we got the
00:17draft on Thursday. It's something we we have not spent a lot of time talking about. I know Doug and
00:23Gator talk a lot about it. We all love the draft. We all love adding talent to
00:30our teams and seeing what Brad Holmes is going to do. He is fun to follow on draft day whether
00:36you like or don't like his picks. There's always going to be a lot of movement and I think this
00:41year is going to be absolutely no different with having two fours two fives two sixes. He's got some ammo
00:48to be able to move up down around however he wants to do it. So it'll be interesting right now
00:56in the first two rounds. They pick at number 17 as we
00:59all well know and most people know but if you don't they pick number 50 in the second round 50
01:07overall. So a couple of of who what should be contributors in this coming season not depth guys not guys
01:16that you're hoping to see something more out of and then you know in years two or three contributors this
01:22year and they need a lot of players. What's your dream scenario?
01:29My dream scenario would be it is no secret in the first round Monroe freely. I think he is the
01:36best all-around tackle in this draft and having said that pick and get 17. Do I think he'll be
01:44there? It depends how everybody else evaluates him. I don't know. You know because you have Francis Maui Noah. You
01:50get Spencer for no. You've got a lot of different guys.
01:53Caden Proctor. There are some reportedly that absolutely love him. We heard that the Lions might actually love him. I
02:01hope they don't. And some that are completely on the opposite like have him going at the end of the
02:06first round. I've seen even a couple of mocks that he's out of the first round because of the weight
02:11issues.
02:11So we have no idea what happens how early there's going to be a run on tackles. But that is
02:18my guy the guy that I want at number 17 at number 50. Now it becomes a little bit of
02:25what's the best available that also fits the Lions defense.
02:31And I know that Derek Moore has been he was in Michigan Edge. He was mocked by Mel Kuyper. We
02:39saw another one yesterday that had Derek Moore going to the Lions at 50. The guy that I think is
02:44a better fit for this team is still in the Big Ten. But he comes from the University of Illinois.
02:50Gabe Jakis. Why is he better? He about the same size in regards to height length all of those things.
02:58But he's a little bit bigger.
03:00He's about 15 pounds heavier. And I think he is a more well-rounded three down guy. I think Derek
03:08Moore coming in is probably more of a second long third down. He's a pass rush kind of guy. Yeah,
03:16he'd be replacing the like Al-Qadeen Muhammad type of role. Right? Well, they've already replaced Davenport. So now let's
03:22just do Al-Qadeen Muhammad. But if you're looking for a guy that's more of a three down guy, I
03:26think Gabe Jakis fits the bill better.
03:29than Derek Moore. The upside for Derek Moore. You know, two, three years down the road may be higher. Because
03:39I think Gabe Jakis is he's got a I don't think his ceiling is is as high as Derek Moore.
03:46But there's more of a gamble. If you're talking about a ceiling guy, you know, does he reach a ceiling?
03:50Does he break through the ceiling? Like, what does he do? I think Gabe Jakis is more of a, hey,
03:55let's plug and play.
03:57He fits the defense better. He fits opposite Aiden Hutchinson better. Yeah, I mean, we'll flip that to you guys.
04:03And we've got a couple days here to really sink our teeth in. But what's your dream scenario for the
04:08Lions? 248-539-9797. John, you are a Monroe Freeland guy. I am over. I am also with you. I
04:17hope I haven't. Maybe I have convinced you. And maybe that's a good thing. I was gonna say, like, when
04:22it comes to tackle evaluations, you're pretty good resource for me to lean on here. Now, I liked Maui
04:27Noah at the end of the season watching him a lot with Miami in the playoff of physical mall or
04:31more of a right tackle if Sewell is going to be at left. I don't believe anybody thinks he's going
04:35to be there. No at 17. And Freeland gives me the upside. The athleticism could play that that left side
04:41in college, which means I played right side in the NFL. Well, he could play either side. It depends more
04:46of what they want to do with Penny Sewell, but tested. Well, we know the Lions like to get their
04:50offensive lineman going downfield screen game. It just fits a lot of the boxes. It would give them bookend tackles.
04:57It would solidify the pocket for Jared Goff finish the offensive line, right? The commitment to Cade Mays at the
05:02center spot. If they could do that on day one of the NFL draft, I think everybody would be very
05:06happy. Then on day two, you you really do have to find some defensive playmakers. Ideally for me, this is
05:13the dream scenario. It's a defensive lineman. It's an edge player. I would love to see someone like TJ Parker.
05:19He goes late one early two in some mocks. I think he goes 45th in field Yates latest ESPN mock,
05:28which is only a handful of picks ahead of where the Lions are picking at 50. So maybe a subtle
05:32trade up. You've got those extra day three picks. Can I move up in that second round and secure the
05:38best of the bunch at the pass rusher spot?
05:40Parker played at Clemson. His stock was a lot higher after the 2024 season, but he's a bigger dude damn
05:47near six for 270 and he was productive at Clemson. So that's a guy I look at as an every
05:53down dude who would make a lot of sense as a playmaker for the Lions.
05:59Beyond that playmaker on defense is a pretty wide term, right? I mean, they still need a linebacker. You could
06:05certainly convince me a safety or a corner if it's the right player. That's my dream scenario, though, is that
06:10both lines of scrimmage get a big time upgrade at the premium positions that have often been neglected.
06:15They have not taken a pass rusher in the top 100 picks in three straight drafts and I then am
06:23hoping if we're continuing to go and I don't TJ Parker to me is a better classed version of Derek
06:31Moore, okay, which and maybe he's there. Maybe he's not there, which is why that dream. Maybe maybe maybe Derek's
06:38more is still there and TJ Parker's not and I don't mean to I'm not trying to slam your pick.
06:44I still think he's more of a rotational type of guy in the first one or two years of his
06:51career, okay, but the dream scenario going down the road that I'm not going to sit there and say who
06:57I want in the fourth fifth six, you know, who's your dream seventh round, right? Yeah, you know what with
07:02their second six round pick my dream scenario is that they package some of those picks and move back into
07:09the third round and and get yourself another guy.
07:14side that is I still think third round players. If you're talking about linebackers, can you get an upgrade there
07:23in the third round? Sure.
07:26Maybe a rotational guy that hey early in the season as we've seen with kind of the MO of this
07:34coaching staff, you know, Dan Campbell staff is that
07:38there are guys we want to see more of we need we need more touches for Jameer Gibbs as a
07:42rookie when are we going to get more touches like they bring those guys along and he was a first
07:47round pick third rounders.
07:49I do think that there's hey in the first couple of games of the year.
07:52When are we going to see more of this guy? When are we going to see more of this guy?
07:55And then all of a sudden weeks four five six they start to work their way in more so in
08:01the first year I expect I don't know.
08:05I don't want to say high production but high participation and quality play out of a third round pick some
08:11text coming in two four eight five three nine ninety seven ninety seven.
08:15I want to know about your dream scenario two days out from the NFL draft dream scenarios trade down a
08:20few a few spots and get Blake Miller.
08:21That's Greg at work. All right. It depends what you get in return. How far down are you going to
08:26go Blake Miller?
08:28I do think will be there in the you know 22 to 26 range and I've often viewed him as
08:35like the the next best if you don't get one of the top guys falling into your lap.
08:40You still got a dude that played 50 plus games of college football and tested maybe 98 percent of the
08:46athleticism of a Monroe Freeling and has a mean streak.
08:49No, I've been a Blake Miller guy. It's just of the two. I'll take the higher athletic profile if I
08:55can.
08:55Right. So he's got more. His resume is deeper than Monroe Freeling's. Yeah.
09:02And that's because he started at a young age. He's got a lot of experience.
09:06I think you plug him at the right tackle spot and you get a very dependable while not a high
09:13end talent like in the potential of a Monroe Freeling.
09:16But you get a very dependable player in the mid 20s.
09:20Another text just says who the hell is going to play linebacker for this football team?
09:24You got Jack Campbell and Barnes is more of a Sam.
09:29He'll he'll screw down and play near the line of scrimmage.
09:32You don't have that coverage linebacker next to a Jack Campbell right now because Malcolm Rodriguez is a special team.
09:38So, OK, I will give you a late fifth, maybe six round pick kind of it's more of a dream
09:45scenario for me, a guy that I just I thought was a a player that didn't play much until his
09:52last year in college football.
09:55And when we return, I'll tell you exactly who that is.
09:57Hell of a tease. Ninety seven one.
09:58Hell of a tease.
