00:00Doug Hirsch, Scott Anderson, 97 won the ticket, Kang behind the glass, just a couple days
00:05away from the National Football League draft.
00:07It's time for the aggregate draft Lions news blitz thingy.
00:13Got a list of questions here of things, the latest reporting, things that are being said.
00:21Adam Schefter yesterday did a column where he emptied the notebook of all the things
00:25he's hearing.
00:26One note, he said he thinks Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeau could be dealt.
00:30Would you give up a draft pick?
00:32And if so, which one to get Kayvon Thibodeau, the former first round edge rusher?
00:38It's a guy I really liked out of college, but he's had like one really good NFL season
00:43and the rest has been only played, I think, 10 games last year.
00:47I'm not interested in signing him.
00:49And that's exactly what you're going to have to do to make, have this make any kind of
00:53sense because he's entering this fifth year after being a first round pick.
00:57If I thought that he would sign a three-year deal, a very team friendly, like three years,
01:03I don't know, somewhere between 30 and $40 million, I would consider it.
01:07And then you got to talk about the draft compensation that goes the other way.
01:09What would you be willing to give up?
01:11I'm not going to give up much because, again, it depends on if you're able to sign him.
01:15And I doubt that he's going to sign for anywhere near as low as that after guys like Jalen Phillips
01:20signed a ridiculous amount of money who was actually less productive.
01:25But if I'm able to, the compensation would probably be one of the fourth round picks
01:29that the Lions have.
01:30But I'm not that keen on Thibodeau as he plays with some really good players or had played
01:34with some really good players with the Giants and just didn't show that he was worthy of
01:40being one of these guys.
01:41I mean, look, they didn't give him an extension and they're looking to move him.
01:45So what does that tell you?
01:47Kang, you?
01:48Yeah, I'm not really interested.
01:49I mean, if I had to give something just to have him for one year because I wouldn't be interested
01:52in an extension.
01:53I'd let him play out the year maybe just to help the team this year.
01:56So with that being said, I'd give up like one of the fifth round picks because I'm not
01:59going to give up anything that I really want to use.
02:02He doesn't scream lying to me.
02:03He doesn't have that grit or that, you know, that culture that the Lions are looking to
02:07continue to build.
02:08So like he's got the talent, but does he bring it every day, every single time?
02:12I don't think so.
02:13So I'd pass.
02:14I'd make a move like this if I thought the player would put me over the top.
02:18His cap hit next year is 14.751 million.
02:22I believe the Lions have around 22, 23 million under the cap.
02:26You take up two thirds of your remaining cap space for a guy who had two and a half sacks
02:30in 10 games played last year.
02:32I'm not that interested in that.
02:34On top of that, how much would Cam Jordan cost?
02:37If you can get him as a free agent, you don't have to give anything up.
02:40Cam Jordan was more productive last year and fits the Lions mold.
02:45100%.
02:46So, you know, as, as it looks, this would be sort of a desperation move that would only
02:52take place after the second round of free agency.
02:55And that's after the draft.
02:57So it just doesn't align with Detroit and it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.
03:02Next item.
03:03Chef, they're also reporting that Arizona cornerback trading Stuk seems to be climbing
03:07up some draft boards.
03:09And what it really means is that everybody's discovering that he's been undervalued going
03:13into the draft.
03:14One NFL general manager, well, it called him one of the best safeties I've seen in my time.
03:20Another says he's a perfect nickelback.
03:22He's clearly a bit of a Swiss army knife.
03:25Would he make sense for the Lions in the draft and where?
03:30Um, I don't think he, uh, I mean, does it make sense for the Lions?
03:35Yes.
03:35Is a 17th pick overall?
03:36No, there's reason to be concerned about Stuk's.
03:39Um, he has a torn ACL that he's recovered from, but he tore the ACL just a couple of years
03:44ago, missed most of the 2024 season with that bounce back to have a nice year last year,
03:50but he's also playing in Arizona.
03:53So what's the competition that he's going against on a day in day out basis?
03:57I'm not sure about that.
03:58Need to do a real deep dive into, into all that film work and stuff like that.
04:02Um, but here's what, what stands out for him and why the Lions would be loping in an eye.
04:09His RAS score is through the roof.
04:10I think it was only one defensive back that had a higher RAS score.
04:13Uh, and that was one of the Ohio state guys.
04:16So, I mean, he's got great, he's got good size for a, for a nickelback.
04:20Um, he's, he's, he's a comeback type player cause he had the nice year last year after the
04:25injury, but I'm not looking to take a chance at 17.
04:31I want a safe pick at 17 that has as much high upside as this guy does.
04:35And I think there can be plenty of those guys available at 17.
04:38So I'm not going to do it.
04:39And being that he's a bit of the hybrid nickelback, is he a safety?
04:43Is he a corner?
04:43Is he a nickel?
04:44What, what is it?
04:45And there's good and bad with that, but I want to start it from day one in round one.
04:49I would consider Stooks if he lasts to 50, but I'm not taking him at 17.
04:54Okay.
04:54Your thoughts?
04:55I think in the second round would be a great pick.
04:57He is older senior captain, very versatile.
04:59As you guys have mentioned, he could play both safety and nickel, which I think is kind
05:03of like Brian branch, especially he's Brian branch is not going to start the year guys.
05:06So I like this pick.
05:08He could start day one Gator.
05:09He's got really good ball skills and he's very athletic, uh, four, three, a 40, I believe
05:14as well.
05:15So in the second round, I would definitely would not mind a pick of, uh, of Stooks.
05:18Yeah.
05:18The four three 40 coupled with the fact that he came back from the torn ACL and showed
05:22no ill effects is one of the reasons why I think he would be on the radar.
05:28It feels like the kind of candidate that would be a trade back in the first round or trade
05:33up in the second round to go get, uh, but it, it, the fact that he plays multiple positions,
05:40we don't know the status of Terry on Arnold, but we assume he's going to play.
05:45We don't know the Bryant with status of Brian branch.
05:47We assume he's going to come back.
05:49If you have a guy that can fill in for either one of them, I think that's the kind of
05:52versatility
05:52they love.
05:53I think this would be a great pick at the right place in the draft.
05:57And I, I agree 50 makes more sense in 17, but in between there with a trade back or a
06:02trade up is also a possibility.
06:05Next up, uh, we're two days from the first round of both Chad Reuter from the NFL network
06:10and RJ white from CBS sports have the lions moving up from 17 to 13 to select an offensive
06:16lineman.
06:17Only Reuter gave the proposed price tag, a fifth rounder this year and a third rounder
06:21next year.
06:22He also has a lions taking Spencer Fano, the tackle from Utah.
06:26White has them taking Kate and Proctor.
06:28Do you like this trade, uh, for one of, or both of these potential draft picks?
06:34Well, I think a fifth issue and a third next year to move up to 17 to 13.
06:39It's easier to take because it's the third round pick is next year's pick, right?
06:43Um, so you're not missing it just yet.
06:46You might miss it next year.
06:47I love the idea of moving up and getting your guy that you have conviction on whomever that
06:52is.
06:53I'm not real high on, on perhaps, um, these players as much as, as Chad Reuter is, but,
07:00uh, I, I would definitely consider, uh, well, Fano, I am high on, uh, Proctor, not as much
07:06because of the John Jansen theories on him.
07:09Um, and I defer to Jansen when it comes to offensive linemen.
07:12I think it's probably a safe way to go, but I would hope that they would mean if they're
07:16going to move up, that it's, it's for a fan or for a Freeling or for Ionia or, or someone
07:21like that who has slipped out of the top 10, perhaps, and they're there at 13.
07:26You're like, wait a minute, that guy's not supposed to be there at 13.
07:28That's the way that's when I get aggressive and say, I'm getting that guy, or I'm getting
07:32nervous because my guy is still available.
07:35And I know that there are teams that covet him and I have to get ahead of him.
07:38Can you like these trade proposals?
07:39I don't because it's the two players they haven't taken.
07:43I'm not, you know, my conviction isn't for Proctor or Fano.
07:46So I wouldn't move up 17 and 13 for those guys.
07:48If they're there at 17, that's a different story, but I'm not going to get aggressive
07:51for those two guys.
07:52Proctor's got his, his weight issues and also technique issues.
07:55Fano, when I hear experts or quote unquote draft people start talking about guard center,
08:01possibly, I don't like that.
08:02He's got short arms.
08:03We saw kind of what Will Campbell did with short arms last year with the Patriots.
08:06It's not that Will Campbell can't be a good tackle, but that concerns me if I'm going
08:09to move up for a guy.
08:11Fano's athletic, but like I said, the short arms worry me.
08:14I do think there's going to be a run on offensive linemen though.
08:16So we'll see how aggressive the lines do get if they want an offensive lineman.
08:19Jansen has effectively scared me off Proctor, right?
08:23I like it for Fano way more than Proctor.
08:26And this is the kind of trade that shows that Brad Holmes can marry best player available
08:31in need.
08:32Don't let the board dictate who the best player available is.
08:35Change your position in the draft.
08:37So the BPA meets the need.
08:38He did it in 2024 when Holmes moved up from 29 to 24 to take cornerback Terry and Arnold
08:43and they needed a cornerback.
08:46This would be a similar type move, only moving up four spots, but making sure that you get
08:50a guy who is the best player available at a position that you need.
08:56Finally, Tim Twentyman on DetroitLions.com did 10 players that make sense for the Lions
09:01at 17.
09:01And he mentions many of the usual suspects, Monroe Freeling, Oliva Vengaione, Caden Proctor,
09:07et cetera.
09:07And he adds an 11th wild card.
09:11Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech.
09:15Whoa.
09:15What would you make of that pick?
09:17Well, first of all, I feel like he's just trolling for you to get you to.
09:20Let's say this on the air and well done.
09:22Mission accomplished.
09:23Doug loves himself some Jacob Rodriguez.
09:26I like Jacob Rodriguez a lot.
09:28Okay.
09:28I like the player.
09:29I don't love him at 17.
09:31He's not that high on my list as I really don't see that it's a major position of need
09:37for the Lions.
09:38I think that if screaming needs at tackle and a screaming need for me at edge rusher, and
09:44I think safety is a bigger need right now than the linebacker position.
09:48I mean, I got to talk myself into several positions well before I do with linebacker.
09:53All the players that I'd be very happy with and content with at taking at 17.
09:58I love him at 50, but not at 17.
10:03There's a lot of these guys I love at 50, but not going near a first round.
10:07Kang?
10:07I mean, he had a great year, good player, but I'd be pissed if they took him at 17.
10:12Not another off-the-ball linebacker.
10:14He's undersized, and you got your off-the-ball linebacker in Jack Campbell.
10:17You'll pass with flying colors.
10:19Get that.
10:19You don't get another one.
10:21Not at 17.
10:21Like I said, he's undersized.
10:23Maybe at 50, but they got too many other needs, man.
10:28So, I love Jacob Rodriguez, and I could take him at 17.
10:35But you better be right about Larry Borum.
10:40This is about, do you love Larry Borum at right tackle as much as you love getting Jacob Rodriguez?
10:46Or, you better love what you think are going to be the field of candidates available at second.
10:52In the second round at 50.
10:53For your offensive tackle spot.
10:56And your edge rusher, for that matter.
10:58You have to love Larry Borum to pass on this group of tackles to take a linebacker.
11:04I think it's going to be great.
11:05Don't get me wrong.
11:08I don't know if I love Larry Borum that much.
11:10So, I'd probably pass on Rodriguez there, given who we expect to be on the board at the tackle spot.
11:18Oh, and you're not sure I want him.
11:20I'm not as sure I want him.
11:21No.
11:22I like Borum more than want him.
11:23I love Mesidor, and I'm liking Keldrick Falk more and more.
11:26The edge rusher from Auburn.
11:27But, still a couple days ago for the draft.
11:30And, depends on how the board shakes out, right?
11:33That's right, Doug.
11:34That run on tackles could take place before the Lions pick.
11:37I think there will be.
11:37I agree with Kang.
11:38I think there's going to be a run on tackles.
11:40And, that concludes our Detroit Lions aggregate draft news blitz thingy.
