Who do you ultimately want the Lions to draft with the 17th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft?
Transcript
00:00and um you got the draft as well tonight john it is draft day it is also national take a
00:07chance day
00:09um it is national take a chance day and i'm curious for brad holmes or for the fans if you
00:16want him to take a chance what is it that you want him to take a chance on and i
00:22think i'm more
00:23speaking about just an individual player not well we want him to take a chance and uh you know
00:29trade down to 28 to see if they could still get monroe freeling but now you know get a whole
00:35bunch
00:35of draft capital as well no that's not what we're talking about is there a player and i and i
00:40don't
00:40think taking a chance on a monroe freeling that's not taking a chance that is something that we
00:48believe will work out because you could you could literally say any draft pick you're taking a chance
00:54on let me give you a little bit of draft intel to help frame this so jordan schultz says that
01:00one
01:01thing that is appearing to be consensus among teams is that an offensive line run is going to happen
01:06thursday night starting in the 10 to 14 range reminder the lions pick 17th he says i have over
01:12a dozen executives tell me in their mocks they have as many as nine offensive linemen going in round one
01:19then you throw in peter schrager's mock yesterday where he had the lions trading up to 13 to select
01:25an offensive lineman is the take a chance jump the line before someone jumps you
01:33i i don't i don't think so because when you're talking about the if there's nine offensive linemen
01:41going in this draft all right well i mean look can we go through who we think those nine would
01:46be
01:47would love to john i don't know that there's a nine there's certainly not nine guys with first
01:51round grades no but let's say five or six of them go before pick 17 all right so you want
01:56to just wait
01:56and get leftovers uh you got uh the the tackle out of miami maui noah spencer finnell yeah out of
02:03utah monroe freeling uh vega ione that's how many is that four or five that's four uh blake miller
02:11like miller caden proctor caden proctor at six and max um i've been up an anchor i an anchor i
02:19an
02:20anchor all right out of uh arizona state throw him that's seven seven and then you're you're i mean
02:26who's next on the list caleb lomu the other utah tackle yeah utah that would be eight and i know
02:32there's
02:32a tackle out of oregon i just can't imagine him being a first round guy my question though is
02:41if a run happens if we see three offensive linemen go in the 10 to 14 range and you're sitting
02:47there
02:48at 17 so i do think that's what happens with the second pick that the giants have i think they
02:54go
02:55offensive linemen if they feel like this is true like there's going to be a run on tackles
03:02do they started at at five thinking well maybe caleb downs will still be there at 10
03:07that that could be the that's i think the only path where you get eight in the first round but
03:15is that the there's this draft does not have a lot of great storylines is that one that's super
03:19important for us is to see where and when the run on offensive linemen go oh sure i mean i
03:25i've talked
03:25about i don't think munro freeling is there at 17 that that's and we've seen him mocked anywhere from
03:31the first one taken by the browns at what six to 25 or 26 i think is as low as
03:39i've seen him
03:39mocked did i tell you who peter schrager had the lions trading up to get uh no you did not
03:44so he
03:45hasn't gone up to 13 trading with the rams securing an offensive lineman and he has them taking
03:49caden proctor oh
03:53do we have a puke drop do we have uh give me your bye bye drop like that would be
04:00my reaction right
04:01you don't want any part of him no i and i definitely don't want to trade up spend more draft
04:07capital
04:08so you're not just spending the 17 pick on him are you spending also a fourth and depending on what
04:16the values are because all the everybody's calling right now to assess what they would
04:21what the capital they would need to be able to move back if you're trading up for somebody
04:28is it too force is it a fourth and a fifth like i don't want to give up you want
04:33to vomit you know
04:33what it is the lions in his scenario give up pick 17 and pick 118 as well as a 2027
04:42second round pick
04:44oh if that happens i i i please baby jesus no uh i have an interesting piece of audio to
04:56play on
04:56the caden proctor front because he is taking over as the the name of names he's the betting favorite
05:02to be the pick to the detroit lions some people think they're going to move up to go and get
05:06caden
05:06proctor please tell me it's all a smokescreen that's my theory john and here's my thought the lions need a
05:13tackle brad holmes has drafted a bunch of bama dudes and a bunch of sec guys but nothing about
05:19proctor screams detroit lion and you know who made the case was his his coach nick saban saban talked
05:27up proctor but i think he also explained why he doesn't make sense for the lions
05:34proctor screams detroit lion and a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a
05:51half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a
05:51half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a

05:51half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a
05:51half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a
05:51half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half a half
06:05not a self-starter
06:07what about Dan Campbell who wants
06:09salty competitive
06:11player is going to want a guy who's
06:13not a self-starter and
06:15okay
06:17once he's drafted
06:19he's going to be at Lyons
06:21he's going to be in Allen Park
06:22until the season's over next year
06:25there might be a week or
06:27or two where he's not around
06:28but you will have your thumb on him
06:31for the majority of his rookie season
06:33and maybe even
06:35going into his second year
06:36I don't know
06:39what the standard
06:41operating procedure is anymore
06:43I know it's when I was there after my rookie
06:45season hey I was you know a week after
06:47the season I was back in the gym I was back at
06:49Redskin Park
06:51Washington Football Team Park whatever you call it now
06:54and
06:56I wanted to get ready
06:57and see what I could do in year two
07:00after
07:01that when the season
07:03was over after I had felt
07:05like I had proven myself for two
07:07years and I had the trust of the coaching
07:09staff as soon as
07:11the season was over
07:12we do our exit physicals we do
07:15our exit interviews I wasn't rushing
07:17out of town but then I would
07:19leave and I'd come back here
07:21to Michigan and spend
07:23three months
07:25I'd go back for a mini camp
07:27which is a weekend and I'd come back
07:29but I was able to
07:31do that because
07:32they had enough trust that I
07:35would take care of the lifting
07:37the running and come in in
07:39shape
07:41if that's going to be the
07:43if that's still the standard operating
07:45procedure where a guy whether it's after
07:47his first year second year whenever it is
07:49he goes home and he's gone for three
07:50months if he's not a self
07:51starter are you kidding
07:53me doesn't sound like a Campbell guy
07:55doesn't sound like a gritty guy and
07:57we talked to Ross Tucker yesterday
08:00and he said the same
08:01thing he backed up what I said if you
08:03have weight issues going into
08:05your final year
08:07and you're got a chance for a big payday
08:09what are you doing
08:10we'll discuss more when we return
