The Zula Patrol learns about rivers just before they compete in Zula’s annual Great River Race. Meanwhile, Truder plans to win the river race by cheating, so he can become famous, which he’s sure will cause people to finally listen to him. Unfortunately for Truder, every time he does something underhanded to knock the ZPers out of the competition, they rally back using their newfound knowledge about rivers. In the end, with quite a bit of help from Gorga, the ZPers win the race and Truder and Traxie wind up all wet.

01:06Space! With so many stars, it looks just like a giant connect-the-dots puzzle with all your favorite constellations!
01:14Orion, the Little Dipper, and...
01:17Huh? Hmm. I don't remember that one.
01:23I'm not sure, but I think we're forgetting something.
01:26Let's see. We've all got our water safety vests, paddles, sunscreen...
01:32So what else could we possibly need for a river rafting race?
01:37A raft!
01:39Good thinking, Gorga! Big enough for all of us!
01:42All of you! Remember, this year I'm the official announcer!
01:46I wonder who we're racing this year?
01:50Once I win this race, Traxie, it's all going to be different!
01:55Till now, all my wonderful plans to rule the galaxy have failed miserably!
02:00And you know why? Because no one ever listens to me!
02:05Huh? Did you say something?
02:07That's exactly what I mean! But once I win, I'll be famous! And everyone listens to famous people!
02:15What makes you think you'll win? You've never even rafted before!
02:19I'll win because I have the perfect plan! I'm going to cheat!
02:25Cheat! There's a surprise!
02:30Oh yeah, you've got winner written all over you!
02:36What's the matter, Gorga? Aren't you excited about the river race?
02:40Oh, you know what I mean!
02:42You're nervous because you've never gone rafting before?
02:45But you've been on a river and had fun, right?
02:48Well, it's even more fun to raft on a river! After all, it's still just a river!
02:54Yeah! Just water flowing from one place to another!
02:57Hmm!
02:58Where do rivers stop?
03:02Excellent question, Gorga!
03:04Let's check the multopedia!
03:07There are many types of rivers!
03:10Winding ones, and straight ones, wide ones, and narrow ones!
03:17But all rivers are made of fresh water!
03:20Sometimes the water comes from underground springs,
03:23but usually it comes from rain or melted snow!
03:28This water collects in an area high in the mountains called a watershed.
03:33The melted snow and rainwater that doesn't soak into the ground is called runoff.
03:38As it flows downhill, it forms streams!
03:42Then the streams join together into larger streams, which combine into...
03:47Area!
03:48Right, Gorga! A river!
03:50Any stream that flows into a river and makes it bigger is called a tributary!
03:57A small river can also be a tributary to a larger river!
04:01They're like roads leading to a big highway!
04:04The main river and all its tributaries make up a river system!
04:09The river flows across the land and finally empties into a lake or another river!
04:16Or into an ocean!
04:18The place where a river empties into the ocean or sea has a special name!
04:23An estuary!
04:24That's where the tide flows in and the fresh water of the river mixes with the salt water from the
04:31ocean!
04:31Now everyone knows rivers are fun for swimming and water sports, but rivers are important too!
04:37Yeah! They provide transportation routes for boats!
04:41And water for drinking! And fish for eating!
04:44And water to add to soil to help grow crops!
04:50Hurry! Let's get to the race!
04:54Hurry! Let's get to the race!
04:55Hurry! Let's get to the race!
04:57What makes a river snow?
05:05Oh! What makes a river flow?
05:09Hmm, I don't know! Maybe we'll be able to figure it out during the race!
05:14Oh, this is so exciting! Zula's great river rafting race is about to begin!
05:22Now remember, you have to power the rafts yourself! No motors allowed!
05:28The first raft to cross the finish line at the ocean wins this spiffy trophy and a place in the
05:35river rafting hall of fame!
05:37Oh, wow!
05:40This is perfect, Traxie! I can win the race and get rid of the Zula Patrol at the same time!
05:46There's no way this could go wrong!
05:49Oh, you'll find a way! I have faith in you!
05:52River rafters! Ready, that, go!
06:04The old secret motor trick! Nice touch!
06:10I mean, it will make a new one!
06:13Whoa!
06:17Oh, damn! It appears the Zula Patrol is already out of the race!
06:22Who was that guy?
06:25Looks like we've landed in a dried up stream!
06:28I think this leads to the river! It used to be a tributary!
06:34Gorg is right! Melting snow creates runoff, which flows into streams and tributaries!
06:40And there's the snow!
06:45It's working! Melting snow is filling the stream with water!
06:49Yippee! This tributary will lead us right back to the river!
06:55The Zula Patrol is back in the race!
06:58Well, then I'll put them back out of the race!
07:01Villain rule 12B, always carry a phony detour sign!
07:09That way!
07:12Oh, dear! The Zula Patrol is going off course!
07:16Heading straight into the rocky part of the river!
07:19This could be trouble!
07:20Water that rushes over a rock-filled riverbed can make for...
07:24White water rafters!
07:27Whoa!
07:29The water's too shallow!
07:31Watch out for rocks!
07:34If there was more water in the river, we could float over the rocks!
07:38Yeah!
07:39A cumulonimbus rain cloud!
07:43Right, Gorgah!
07:44Rivers also get water from rainfall!
07:46And that cloud looks like it's just about ready to...
07:49Rain!
07:54Oh, boy!
07:56It's getting exciting now!
07:58The Zula Patrol has made it through the rapids!
08:01And they're closing in on the lead rafter!
08:03We'll see about that!
08:14Look out for that boulder!
08:19It's so hard to paddle!
08:27Gorgah says he noticed that the water in rivers always flows from a higher place to a lower one!
08:33So the water always flows downhill!
08:36Which must be because of gravity!
08:39Gravity is the force that pulls things down to the ground!
08:42It makes a ball fall down when you let go of it!
08:46And gravity is what makes a river flow downhill!
08:51But he says we're paddling against the flow of water!
08:55So we must be going the wrong way!
08:58Gorgah's right!
08:59The ocean and the finish line must be back that way!
09:05Look!
09:06That boulder wasn't a real boulder!
09:08We've been tricked!
09:10Well, we'll find out who tricked us after we win this race!
09:14Come on!
09:14This is a job for the Zula Patrol!
09:17Well, here we are at the finish line!
09:20Right at the river's sanctuary!
09:21Where it empties into the ocean!
09:24And it looks like the winner-to-be is almost here!
09:28Thanks to all the water from the melting snow!
09:31And a certain outboard motor hidden down below!
09:36I will win the race!
09:37A smile upon my face!
09:39Rempting down the river to a lake or sea!
09:43Drop me at the estuary!
09:45Melting snow and rainfall former rivers flow!
09:48And it's always downhill!
09:50Bet you didn't know!
09:52Come on!
09:53You're just a teasing!
09:54So gravity's the reason!
09:56Rempting down the river!
09:58How happy we will be!
09:59When they say the winner is me!
10:03Ah!
10:04Victory is mine!
10:07Isn't victory yours after you cross the finish line?
10:11Huh?
10:11Wait!
10:12What's this?
10:13The Zula Patrol is back in the race!
10:15Again!
10:16Hey!
10:17They're catching up!
10:19No fair!
10:19Yeah!
10:20Doesn't sneakiness and cheating count for anything these days?
10:25Look at that guy go!
10:27Come on, gang!
10:28Give it everything we've got!
10:32It won't go any faster!
10:34I've gotta throw out the extra weight!
10:36Don't even think about it!
10:43Uh...
10:43No.
10:45Ah!
10:46Na na na na na!
10:47Woo-iji!
10:48Zula!
10:50And crossing the finish line, it's the Zula Patrol!
10:56Congratulations!
10:57Congratulations! You've won Zula's Great River Race! And this fabulous trophy!
11:03Thanks, but this trophy should go to the Zula Patrol member who deserves it the most, Gorga!
11:11Ah, but I do so love a happy ending. It makes me smile.
11:23Hello, Science Seekers, and welcome to the Molto Moment. I'm using these mashed potatoes to make a nice big mountain
11:32to show how a river gets its start. Now, we add some gravy.
11:38Whoopsie-daisy!
11:40Now, pretend that the gravy is rainwater. See what happens?
11:45Yeah! You've got lumpy rainwater!
11:48I know! The rain runs down the side of the mountain because of gravity. That's called runoff.
11:55Then the streams of water join together into bigger streams, and they join together to make a river.
12:01When a stream flows into a bigger stream or a river, it's called a tributary.
12:07The river and all its tributaries make up a river system.
12:12The river keeps flowing downhill over land until it finally empties into...
12:18The peas!
12:19It empties into another river, or a lake, or the ocean.
12:25We've got a better idea where it empties.
12:29Oh, dear.
12:30Well, we'll see you next time.
12:33Bye-bye for now!
12:34Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
