00:00Way, way up, where are the planets? Do the Moolah. Spin and shop till you find yourself on Zoolah. Let's
00:07kick off, we're all ready to go. It's fun to learn with the Zoologar. Wake up, Gorgoth, it's time to
00:15play. Come on, Captain Moolah, let's welcome the day.
00:18Where's that cedar? Ready to go. Whizzy and wig on, good to go. Features bobbling, turning blue. Maltors making something
00:30new. Way, way up, where are the planets? Do the Moolah. Spin and shop till you find yourself on Zoologar.
00:38See you around, Wolf, at Mission Control. It's fun to learn with the Zoologar Patrol. Way, way up, where are
00:46the planets? Do the Moolah. Spin and shop till you find yourself on Zoologar. See you around, Wolf, at Mission
00:53Control. It's fun to learn with the Zoologar Patrol.
01:07Space, where... where nobody remembers your birthday, that's what space is. Fine, I'll just celebrate it myself.
01:20Hey, what's cooking? We're making a Zoologar Patrol upside down cake.
01:25Gorg is helping with the upside-down cake.
01:28Is it somebody's birthday? Nope. It's a surprise for Molto.
01:32To celebrate him finishing his Molto Media Mega Map of the Solar System.
01:37That is a big deal. Zoologar astronauts depend on Molto's maps.
01:42I wonder how it's going.
01:45Hi, Molto. How's your Molto Mega Map coming along?
01:48Almost ready. See for yourselves.
01:52Hey, you're missing a planet. Where's Venus?
01:55I'm just waiting for her to send me her holographic image.
01:58I'm sure it'll be here any minute.
02:01Got a singing telegram from Venus.
02:05Your map's up to the minute, but I don't want to be in it.
02:09What? Venus doesn't want to be on my map?
02:12But, but, but she must be on it.
02:14Sorry, bub. She said,
02:16No way. No how. No chance. Have a nice day.
02:22Wow. She sounds pretty hot under the collar.
02:25Do you really need Venus on your Mega Map, Molto?
02:28My goodness, yes.
02:30Without her, there'd be a big hole in the Solar System.
02:33After all, Venus is quite a unique planet.
02:37Unique? How is she special?
02:39Let's find out in the Molto-pedia.
02:44One reason Venus might be hot under the collar is because she is so hot.
02:49Almost 900 degrees hot.
02:52You know how much heat it takes to boil water?
02:55Well, Venus is more than twice that hot.
02:58Wow. More than hot enough to bake our cake.
03:02In fact, Venus is the hottest planet in the Solar System,
03:06even though she's not the closest to the Sun.
03:08Venus has a thick layer of yellow clouds surrounding it.
03:12The clouds are made of greenhouse gases, like on Earth,
03:15which hold in the heat from the Sun
03:17and spread them evenly around the planet.
03:21The atmosphere or air on Venus is so heavy
03:25that it crushes down on the surface of the planet.
03:28If you were standing on Venus,
03:30it would feel like sitting at the bottom of a football dog pile.
03:36Only a lot heavier.
03:38Venus spins or rotates very slowly.
03:42Much lower than Earth spins,
03:44so slowly that each day on Venus is 116 Earth days long.
03:50Something else unusual is that Venus spins or rotates backwards
03:55in the opposite direction that most planets spin.
04:01So on Venus, the Sun rises in the west and sets in the east,
04:07the reverse of the way it is on most other planets.
04:12That backwards spin of Venus is called retrograde rotation.
04:17Nice job, Gorga.
04:23But why does Venus spin backwards?
04:26That's an excellent question.
04:28Indeed, there are lots of theories.
04:30But most scientists believe that a huge chunk of space rubble
04:34smashed into Venus a long time ago
04:37and sent it spinning the opposite way.
04:42So now you can see how unique Venus is
04:45and why she's so important to my mega map.
04:48If Venus isn't the closest planet to the Sun,
04:51then why is she the hottest?
04:53A map without Venus just won't do.
04:56How will Zula astronauts navigate the inner planets?
04:59Why the entire Zula space program is at stake?
05:03We've got to convince Venus to be on the map.
05:06This is a job for the Zula patrol.
05:10Sorry, Sugar.
05:12The answer is still no.
05:14And I don't want to discuss it.
05:16Really, I don't.
05:17Okay.
05:18But being on a multi-map is a great honor.
05:21I'd sure want to be on it.
05:23Uh, if I were big.
05:25And yellow.
05:26And a planet.
05:27You would?
05:29Are you sure?
05:30Even when all the other planets laugh at you behind your hemisphere?
05:34Huh?
05:35What are y'all, or you, talking about?
05:38Face it, I'm different.
05:40I spin too slowly, I'm too hot, and I rotate backwards.
05:44Nobody wants to feel backwards, especially a planet.
05:49It's better if y'all just leave me off your map.
05:52Oh my.
05:53But Venus, all your differences aren't bad things.
05:57They're just what makes you unique.
06:00You bet.
06:01Think of all the things I could do if I had a long day like yours.
06:04Polish the poop deck, wipe the windshield, dunk the dipstick,
06:08glue the landing gear, tighten the tuners, ratchet the rivets,
06:11and then collapse.
06:12And as for being hot, we think it's cool.
06:16Watch.
06:30See?
06:31Your hot surface can bake a cake really fast.
06:35And that heavy atmosphere can flatten it even faster.
06:41Mmm.
06:42But still tasty.
06:47So my days are long and I can bake a flat cake.
06:50Big deal.
06:52I still rotate backwards.
06:55So what?
06:56We do lots of things backwards, right, gang?
06:59Sure thing.
07:00Like dancing backwards.
07:12I can even pile it backwards.
07:16Hey!
07:16Watch where you're going!
07:18Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight?
07:20Come out tonight?
07:21Come out tonight?
07:22Come out tonight?
07:23I'm sorry.
07:25Nice try, y'all.
07:27But it's no use.
07:28I just don't want to be unique.
07:30I just want to fit in.
07:32Maybe Venus is just a little down in the dumps.
07:35I mean, with all those clouds, she probably doesn't get enough sun.
07:39But that doesn't make sense.
07:40If the clouds keep some sun out, then why is Venus so hot?
07:44Maybe the clouds keep the heat in.
07:48Hmm.
07:49Or maybe it isn't the clouds at all.
07:53Clouds or no clouds, I've got a hot idea.
08:00No, I have made up my mind.
08:03The only way I'll ever fit in is to spin the same direction as everybody else.
08:08Oh, my goodness.
08:10No, please don't do that.
08:12Whoa.
08:13I feel my dizzy.
08:19She's out of control.
08:21We've got to stop her.
08:24There's only one chance.
08:26Deploy the plunge-o-matic.
08:35We got her.
08:36Now, reverse thrust.
08:42Whoa.
08:43Oh, I think I sprained my equator.
08:46Thanks for stopping me.
08:48I guess I can't change.
08:50And I'll never, ever fit in.
08:52So maybe it's better if I just keep to myself.
08:55Wait!
08:57Surprise!
08:58Surprise!
09:01What are you three doing?
09:03We wanted to try one more thing.
09:05And we brought along some help.
09:07We really want you to be there with us on Molto's Mega Map.
09:10But I don't want to belong on the same map as y'all.
09:13I'm just too different.
09:16But everybody's different in some way.
09:18That's right.
09:19Look at me.
09:20I've got a giant red spot.
09:22And I've got a moon that looks like a potato.
09:26You think you spin funny, Venus.
09:28I spin on my side.
09:30Really?
09:31And none of y'all feel bad about your differences?
09:35No way.
09:36Not even slightly.
09:37So maybe being the hottest planet and slow and backwards are just what makes me special.
09:45Now you're getting it.
09:47That's our cue.
09:48Hit it, Gorgel.
09:54Everybody's different in some way.
09:56Me, I'm different too.
09:58Maybe it's a look or the way you read a book.
10:01But there's something special in you.
10:03Come on, Venus, join in.
10:05Well, I'll declare.
10:07I think I will.
10:08I used to worry and wonder about all the things that I'm not.
10:13Nine hundred degrees with those shady trees.
10:15But now I know it's cool to be hot.
10:18Everybody's different in some way.
10:20But that doesn't mean you're a dud.
10:22I've got a red spot.
10:24I'm tilted a lot.
10:27Hey, I think I figured out why Venus is the hottest planet, even though she's not closest
10:33to the sun.
10:34Because she's the hottest dancer?
10:36No.
10:37Remember how heavy the air on Venus was when it flattened our cake?
10:41Well, I remember learning that greenhouse gases on Earth trap the heat and keep Earth warm
10:47enough for life to exist.
10:48But Venus's air has a lot of greenhouse gas, so it must trap a lot of heat from the sun.
10:54So the heat gets in, but it can't get out.
10:57Phew.
10:59Right, Gorgah?
11:00Greenhouse gases are like a jacket.
11:02In winter, we wear a warm jacket to keep the heat in.
11:05But if we wear the same jacket in the summer, it keeps in too much heat.
11:10Bingo!
11:11And scientists can study the greenhouse effect on Venus to learn more about how it works
11:17on Earth.
11:18Hey, Molto, Sugar, don't y'all want to take a picture of me dancing?
11:23Why, yes.
11:24So does that mean you'll be on my mega map?
11:27Of course.
11:29What would it be without me?
11:31Hey, wait.
11:32You could take a picture of me and my duck Wendell.
11:36Smile, Wendell.
11:40Time for a Molto Mega Map moment.
11:43And thanks to you, Venus is in it.
11:46Good thing, too, because Venus is a very special planet.
11:50You know why?
11:51It's made of toothpaste!
11:53No way!
11:54It's the hottest planet in the solar system, even though it's not the closest to the sun.
12:00Well, that's because of the greenhouse effect.
12:02Venus has it, and so does Earth.
12:04So scientists study Venus to learn more about Earth.
12:08Venus also spins slowly and backwards, opposite to the direction that most planets spin.
12:14Probably because a huge chunk of space rubble smashed into Venus a long time ago and sent it spinning the
12:21opposite way.
12:23Oh, anyone can spin backwards.
12:25Whoa!
12:27Ta-da!
12:29I meant to do that!
12:31Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
12:32Well, till next time!
12:34Buh-bye!
