01:05Welcome to Zula.
01:07Where you can sit back, relax, and listen to the gentle waves.
01:12Yahoo!
01:14Or not.
01:17Great idea, Gula.
01:19Thanks, Zeta.
01:26I'm glad you're having such a good time, Gorgah.
01:35Time for some beachcombing.
01:38You wanna come too, Gorgah?
01:40Uh-huh.
01:40Uh-huh.
01:41No problem.
01:42Bring your new friends.
01:43Huh?
01:44Huh?
01:45Huh?
01:45Huh?
01:49Weird footprints.
01:50I wonder where they lead.
01:52I wonder where they lead.
01:54Wow!
01:55That castle must be really old.
01:58Let's look.
01:59That'd be too dangerous, Wizzy.
02:01The castle walls look like they're about to fall down.
02:07These weird footprints lead right up that sand dune.
02:14Moldo?
02:15Oh, good.
02:16You're just in time.
02:18I'm just finishing the drawbridge.
02:20That is one grand sandcastle, Moldo.
02:24But why did you build it way up here, where no one can see it?
02:27Why it's to keep it safe from erosion.
02:30Erosion?
02:31What's that?
02:32Let me show you in the Moldopedia.
02:38When you look at a planet such as Earth, the mountains, valleys, and plains seem to have been there forever.
02:45But in fact, changes happen to them every day.
02:49Of course, there are big changes like earthquakes and volcanoes erupting, but there are also small changes you might not
02:56even notice.
02:59Umbrellas, everyone.
03:02Rain can wash soil away.
03:04The soil then slides down a hill, which makes the hill a tiny bit smaller.
03:10Wind can blow dirt, moving it from one place to another and changing how both places look.
03:15This movement of soil or dirt or rock or sand is called erosion.
03:21Erosion can move tiny grains of sand...
03:24What?!
03:25...or a whole mountain.
03:27A mountain?
03:28You're kidding, right?
03:30Not at all.
03:32But first, the mountain has to get worn down into little bitty pieces.
03:37That's called weathering.
03:40Weathering is what happens whenever large pieces of rock, like a mountain, get broken into smaller pieces.
03:46For example, if water collects in a crack in a rock and freezes overnight, the water turns to ice and
03:54spreads out or expands, which opens the crack further and further until it breaks into pieces.
04:01Weathering then keeps working on those small pieces until they are small enough to be carried away by erosion.
04:07Working together, weathering and erosion can make amazing changes.
04:12A river can carve valleys into Earth's surface.
04:16Seawater can change a shoreline by first weathering or wearing down cliffs into rock and sand.
04:23Then eroding or moving the rock and sand to another place along the coast.
04:28So our sand castles were eroded by the seawater.
04:32And the cliff and the old stone castle were weathered and eroded.
04:37That's right!
04:38And not just by the water, but also by wind.
04:42Wind can weather and erode rocks, too.
04:46Weathering and erosion are always at work.
04:49Weathering is breaking down the surface of Earth.
04:52And erosion is moving it from one place to another.
04:56It never stops.
04:59The face of Earth is always changing.
05:03Wondo, how long does erosion take?
05:06Well, that depends on what's being eroded.
05:09And what's eroding it.
05:13Uh, Gula?
05:15Huh?
05:17Gorka's castle looks like the old castle must have looked when it was new.
05:21Except it's sand, of course.
05:23This is a job for the Zula Patrol.
05:25Let's check it out.
05:28This is amazing!
05:30It's just like a real castle.
05:32But why are the walls all stripes?
05:35Well, sand is made of rock that was broken down into smaller pieces.
05:39The sea carried it here and it became part of the beach sand.
05:44Each stripe here is made up of different kind of rock.
05:49So even sand is made from weathering and erosion.
05:52These old castles are always full of secret passages and trap doors.
05:57Only in stories, Wizzy.
06:00Oh, my word!
06:02Gula!
06:03Zeta!
06:03Can you hear me?
06:06Malto!
06:07Can you hear us?
06:09It's no good.
06:10The walls are too thick.
06:20Oh, my!
06:22They could be anywhere!
06:24Don't worry, Malto!
06:25We'll find them!
06:26Let's try that way!
06:34These stairs must lead to every floor in the castle!
06:38Now we're sure to find the others!
06:40Oh, my!
06:41What's happening?
06:43This wasn't where I wanted to go!
07:01Now what?
07:02The stairs are doing the hokey pokey!
07:05Hmm.
07:06Yes!
07:06Perhaps more hokey than pokey!
07:09I'm watching the staircases very carefully!
07:12And I think I know which way to go!
07:15Follow me!
07:30And here we are!
07:37That's one of Gorka's friends!
07:39I think he wants us to follow him!
07:50Oh!
07:51Thank goodness!
07:52We've found you!
07:53Great!
07:54Now we just need to find our way out of this castle!
07:57I don't know about you, but I'm totally lost!
08:03Gorka says the crab wants us to meet Godfrey!
08:05Only he knows the way out, past all the castle's tricks and traps!
08:10Godfrey?
08:10Who's Godfrey?
08:12Yay!
08:15Yipe!
08:17Run for cover!
08:18I'll hold him off!
08:20And this my one chance to face down a dragon?!
08:23No way!
08:26Seems I arrived just in time!
08:29G-Godfrey?
08:32Sir Godfrey of Sandstone!
08:34Last of the Guardian Knights of Clifftop Castle at your service!
08:43Down, Pookums!
08:44Do behave!
08:46You're scaring these nice folks!
08:50Talk about a change in attitude!
08:53Did you say you were a guardian of Clifftop Castle?
08:56Is that the stone castle on the cliff?
08:59Indeed!
09:00I swore to protect the castle and have done so faithfully for the last 400 years!
09:07But sad to say, there are some enemies I cannot defend against!
09:13The sea water and wind have worn down the cliffs and castle, and now both are about to crumble
09:19and be carried away!
09:21When I saw this sandy copy of my castle, I couldn't resist a visit, and neither could Pookums!
09:28It gets lonely if I'm away too long!
09:32What's that?
09:33They're lost?
09:35Looking for a safe route through the tricks and traps?
09:39Delighted to help you!
09:47My staff!
09:48The water must have come in and eroded the castle wall!
09:52We need to find a way out now!
09:54Follow me!
09:59Nearly there!
10:03Oh no!
10:04We're trapped!
10:05Wig!
10:06Remember what we discovered in the Multopedia about water and erosion?
10:10And what it did to our sand castles!
10:13Thoughts me!
10:14Is there any water inside the castle?
10:16Why, yes there is!
10:17That fountain!
10:18Good thinking!
10:19Time for a little erosion of our own!
10:23It's working!
10:25Oh no!
10:25Oh no!
10:25Everybody out!
10:42I guess that answers our question about how long erosion takes!
10:46It sure does!
10:47A castle made of sand can erode pretty fast, but one made out of stone may take hundreds, even thousands
10:53of years!
10:54And cliffs and mountains may take millions of years to be changed by weathering and erosion!
11:00That's really interesting, guys!
11:02But where are Godfrey and Pookums going to live now?
11:07Gorgon knows another castle that needs a guardian!
11:10A knight and a dragon would be perfect!
11:13Oh, thank you so much!
11:16It's the perfect home for us!
11:18And always so packed with visitors!
11:21You're welcome!
11:23But, uh, can you hurry it up?
11:25There's more golfers waiting to play!
11:27I love golf, but I had to give it up!
11:31I kept hitting the balls into a black hole!
11:34Four!
11:39Hello, sand castle lovers!
11:42It's time for our Molto moment!
11:44As we discovered, the land changes all the time!
11:48Because of weathering and erosion!
11:51Do you know what they are?
11:52How would I know?
11:54I'm just a test tube!
11:57Well, weathering is the breaking down of large pieces of rock into smaller pieces!
12:04Erosion happens when water or wind carries away the loose material!
12:09See how water carries away sand?
12:11Erosion can happen very quickly, like with sand castles!
12:15Or it can take a very long time!
12:18Sometimes hundreds, thousands, or even millions of years!
12:22Like with mountains and cliffs!
12:25Which gives us time to get out the deck chairs and have some lemonade while we wait!
12:30Oh my!
12:31See you next time!
12:33Bye-bye!
