00:00So did you hear Mary Kay Cabot yesterday?
00:02I did. I did.
00:03Did everybody else hear Mary Kay Cabot yesterday?
00:05I was here, so I heard it.
00:06Do you want to play Mary Kay Cabot yesterday for those who didn't?
00:09Yeah, we can do that.
00:09Here's Mary Kay.
00:11But I've watched film now, and I've thought through it,
00:14and I think I would actually take a chance on Ty Simpson at number six
00:19because I've seen enough over the years where if you're not 100% sure
00:24about a player at another position,
00:26then why not take a chance on a quarterback?
00:30I said that in 2022 about Malik Willis.
00:32Take a chance on Malik Willis and see what you can develop him into.
00:36And that's how I feel about the quarterbacks in round one.
00:41Ty is going to need some time because he has only started 15 games.
00:44But I like a lot of what I've seen in those 15 games
00:47from a decision-making standpoint, from an arm standpoint,
00:50from an agility standpoint.
00:52So I probably would take him there.
00:57So I felt kind of bad because I forgot that we were on YouTube Live
01:00and I made some faces because I was a bit surprised that she said it.
01:05It was an emotional reaction.
01:08We have bad Ken Carman body language captured on video?
01:11Where is the video?
01:12Plenty of that video that was out there.
01:14So I felt bad about that.
01:16Normally it's you reacting to the things I say.
01:18Well, there you go.
01:19It was from Mary Kay and I felt bad about it because I wanted her opinion.
01:25She gave me an opinion.
01:26I was just surprised that she had said Ty Simpson.
01:28So you heard that.
01:30Do you have a response to that before I play you this?
01:32Do you have a response to that?
01:34I'm waiting for just give me one box that he checks off.
01:39Well, okay.
01:40Let's see if there's another box that he might check out there.
01:43I want to see maybe there's another box that he checks out there
01:46because there is another person from NFL.com who was on the station yesterday
01:53and had this to say, be careful, be ready.
01:56Mendoza is far and away the guy.
01:58It's not a strong classic quarterback, but you got to keep an eye on Ty Simpson
02:01because, and you got to keep an eye on Ty Simpson in Cleveland
02:03and he's going to continue to gain steam as we get closer to the draft
02:06because people are starting to pick up on what I just picked up on
02:09in Indianapolis during the combine.
02:10The Browns are in love with him, I think.
02:13I believe that they are fascinated by him.
02:14Obviously, the relationship with Don Munkin plays a part in that.
02:17I'm worried that they take him at 24, but I'm also probably, for their case,
02:20more worried that another team catches on and takes him before that.
02:24So don't be surprised if he ends up sneaking into the first round,
02:26even if I don't necessarily think he's quite a first-round talent.
02:29Man, if you take him into the first round, you're setting this thing up
02:34for another disaster.
02:36If you're Ty Simpson, you cannot.
02:40I heard Daryl talking about bad roster building.
02:43I'll give away what I'm going to sell here.
02:44I'm going to bring it up with Daryl because I got upset with Daryl
02:47over what he said about bad roster building when it came to Jeremiah Love
02:50because I'm like, well, what if you have no other choice?
02:52I'm not going to take a player at another position just because I need another position
02:55because I might just throw it away if I need another position
02:58and that guy isn't good enough here.
02:59But to bring in Ty Simpson in the first round, I brought up yesterday to Spencer Anthony
03:07that I think that we're going to be sitting here on Friday morning of the draft
03:11on the 24th, and you and I are going to be talking about and getting calls
03:15on whether or not people should move up or the Browns should move up from 39 to 33
03:21to go after Ty Simpson.
03:22That's where I think this is going to go.
03:24And I don't want to spend all morning on all this, and I don't want to beat up Mary Kay
03:27or Nick Shook for what their report was.
03:30And we got Curtis Danberg coming up at 7.
03:32We got a lot of Guardians coming up.
03:33It's opening day, everything.
03:35But when I hear that, it's alarming, and I don't want to sound alarmed,
03:39but I want to think you have until 2027.
03:42You have these quarterbacks that you already have.
03:45It's not good.
03:46But when I get calls and when you get calls, when we get calls saying,
03:50well, it's better than what we have.
03:52Better than what we have is not getting us over the hump.
03:55Just a little bit better than what we have is still going to lead us
03:58to a very frustrating morning.
04:01And I'm trying to get rid of that.
04:03Like, I went on a tangent yesterday because I am.
04:07I'm sensitive to what some of the people complain about at this time of year,
04:10and this is always that weird time of year.
04:11Guardians start up.
04:13People get upset because they get in the car.
04:15We live in their world.
04:16Why aren't you talking to them?
04:17And I said, imagine, 2028.
04:20I go, give me one more year because imagine in 2028 you go one more year,
04:25and then maybe we have our quarterback situation solidified there going into
04:28that next season.
04:29And then I don't have to sit there and wring my hands all day long about what
04:34quarterback and which quarterback and what he had for breakfast and what he had
04:38on Instagram and who he's throwing to on Instagram Live.
04:41Like, I don't have to do any of that stuff anymore.
04:43And I see a way out, and I don't think I need to freak out and go after a quarterback
04:50that I...
04:5115 starts.
04:52Yeah.
04:5315 games.
04:53I mean, that's 100% where I am.
04:56That's why I've been surprised at any of the chatter, regardless of who it's come from,
05:02anybody who mentions him.
05:03Outside of the fact his dad goes way back with Todd Munkin.
05:08But that should not be the reason to get in bed with one of these new quarterbacks.
05:12That seems kind of silly to me.
05:14And again, it's not only the lack of starts, it's also who he is as...
05:19And I'm going to say the same thing.
05:20I'm going to be fair next year when Julian Sane comes out.
05:22Unless Julian Sane comes out and has one of the best quarterback seasons, you know,
05:25in recent college football history.
05:27I am just out on guys of that size with that lack of athleticism.
05:34And then that lack of starts.
05:36That lack of experience.
05:37To me, that's XXX.
05:40I'm out.
05:41Like, I can't say it enough.
05:43Like, I'm trying to be...
05:44I hate to be dumping cold water all over the place.
05:47I'm just trying to be practical about this and trying to do what's best.
05:51Because I could see this team, and you guys can all see it.
05:54You make that type of decision in the first round for this football team.
05:57And then by next year...
05:58And a lot of people say, well, I don't care.
06:00I do.
06:00I do care.
06:01I don't want to talk about ruining a guy's career one year into his career,
06:05and we're talking about getting another quarterback.
06:06Why do I want to do that to somebody?
06:08I mean, there are people.
06:09They are that.
06:10But even furthermore, I don't want to waste the pick.
06:12Because if I take...
06:13Like, you could say, well, it's a lottery pick.
06:15If I take Ty Simpson, and he just sucks,
06:18and then I have to take somebody else next year,
06:20I've just got rid of a guy who could give me a great career in the first round.
06:26I could still take guys that are going to be giving me eight years of quality in the first round.
06:30A guy who can start this year.
06:32A guy who can actually do it instead of a great big project.
06:35If you guys want to talk about taking a guy on a flyer...
06:38And I know where I've stood on Drew Aller.
06:41I don't think going from one fishbowl to another is going to be good.
06:44But if you guys want to have conversations about projects on day three of the draft,
06:49you go right on ahead.
06:50But if we're talking about a project and a bad draft for quarterbacks
06:54and kind of a downdraft already,
06:56Tone, I'm not having it.
06:57I'm just not having it right now.
06:59So I respect Mary Kay.
07:01I respect the word out of her.
07:02I respect Nick.
07:03I know his family.
07:04But I'm not going to sit here and entertain this conversation.
07:06Because I just don't find it to be...
07:08I find it to be a terrible idea.
07:10I think it's genuine.
07:12I just find it to be a horrific idea for this franchise.
07:14And not to mention, the fact that they went third and fifth round quarterback last year.
07:17When I talked about back in the day throwing a lot of darts,
07:21I didn't mean later in the draft.
07:23Because that makes no set for a team without a quarterback,
07:27at least on paper, or a muddy quarterback situation.
07:31What sense does it make to divvy up the reps?
07:34When Andrew Barry said,
07:36Hey, we're definitely open to another young quarterback.
07:39I'm like, what sense does that make?
07:41Until you have a quarterback that is settled
07:44to continue to bring in young quarterbacks
07:46that aren't at the top of the draft.
07:48Now, I know Mary Kay is saying six overall.
07:50I just don't think that's reality.
07:52But if it's, you know, late in the first,
07:54if it's in the second round,
07:56that makes no sense to me.
07:58Because how are you going to delineate,
08:00you know, the reps again?
08:02And go through the circus that was last year
08:05where everybody agreed.
08:06Even Kevin Stavansky on the way out.
08:08They all basically said,
08:10well, this was a bizarre situation
08:11to have to operate from under.
08:13Where I'll leave it here is this.
08:15Is that there were a lot of people
08:17beating up Mary Kay yesterday for the opinion.
08:21I don't always have to come to her defense on opinions,
08:24but let me say this.
08:25You heard what Nick Shook said, all right?
08:28You heard what Mary Kay said.
08:31Mary Kay doesn't make things up.
08:35And there's been a lot of times,
08:37I mean, you go back to the Miles situation last year.
08:40The faces I made, the reactions I had to all that,
08:42going, man, I thought she was living in la-la land.
08:45I thought that she was completely lying to herself
08:48about the Miles Garrett contract
08:50and how he was going to sign this extension
08:51and all the other stuff.
08:52She ended up being right in the end again.
08:55And I'm thinking, when she said that,
08:57I'm driving home yesterday afternoon,
08:59and I'm thinking, she doesn't just say that.
09:03I haven't reached out to her since.
09:04She doesn't just say that type of thing.
09:07And now you got Nick saying it,
09:08and I'm thinking, are they really that interested in him?
09:12Because they are as crazy for quarterbacks
09:14as you're going to find.
09:15I think they're the craziest franchise
09:17for quarterbacks that you're going to find.
09:19And I understand what Nick said about 24.
09:26Maybe that's going to be a little bit more palatable,
09:28but I still think in the first round,
09:30I'm looking for two starters,
09:31and I'll see you in 2027.
09:33If we get to 2027,
09:34maybe one of the other quarterbacks
09:36are able to actually hack it
09:37for this football team.
09:39216-474-0092.
09:41We'll get back to Browns later on.
09:42They ain't going in.
