00:00I would actually take a chance on Ty Simpson at number six because I've seen enough over the years
00:06where if you're not 100% sure about a player at another position, then why not take a chance
00:13on a quarterback? I said that in 2022 about Malik Willis. Take a chance on Malik Willis
00:18and see what you can develop him into. And that's how I feel about the quarterbacks in round one.
00:26And that's Mary Kay Cabot with us moments ago. Spencer German in for Anthony Lima.
00:31Miles Simmons, pro football talk. He's going to join us at 920. I was planning to get back to
00:37Guardians, but guys, I got to be honest with you. I've been planning this entire time.
00:44I know that it's a quarterback needy league. Boy, if you're watching on YouTube, that was
00:50I might have to apologize for my face later. I think it was appropriately, you were shocked.
00:57You were stunned. I am. I'm not a person. I don't hide my emotions. Well, no, I'm not a stoic
01:03individual. Well, Owen, Owen, you said, I'm trying to find a way out of this. Owen, you
01:12had said that you had, you understood the comparison, the Geno Smith thing. She brought
01:17it. Yeah. She brought up Geno Smith and Barkevius Mingo. Right. And that was, that was what? 2013.
01:23Yeah. What is like the worst draft in modern history? Yeah, definitely. Probably number one.
01:29Yeah. As far as, I mean, the chiefs took Eric Fisher number one overall at tackle. And then
01:34they moved him to guard at one point, you know, I totally get what she's saying there. Cause
01:40yes, if we had it to do all over again, we would much rather have developed Geno Smith
01:46than watch whatever happened with Barkevius Mingo. Cause that was a nothing, but we wouldn't
01:50know if we would have done the same thing. The Jets did like, that's what I keep trying
01:54to say. It's like, I know Jimmy brought up the whole, well, you know, Sam, I know you
01:58guys think teams and organizations can even go about going, well, we always screw this
02:03up. So let's not do it anymore. Fan basis. Totally. And that's why you're a fan and not
02:08working in the front office. Like I know he brought up the whole, well, you know, Sam
02:12Darnold when you were out in Arizona, cause you were at the league meetings and Jimmy
02:15had brought up the Sam Darnold thing. I go, yeah, but Seattle's in a position with
02:19Minnesota was in a position before when he's at Minnesota where they could let the
02:23guy breathe for a second. We are not in a, in a position where they make, they let
02:28the guy breathe. That's impossible. No, he would have to play almost immediately. I
02:33think that's bad, a bad idea. I think Ty Simpson, wherever he's probably best served
02:38ending up somewhere where he can sit and I, that would not be here. Well, he'd
02:43play like he would, I would expect that he, especially if you take him at six. I
02:47know Mary Kay said, it doesn't mean like the end for Shador. Maybe she would, she
02:50was implying like if they were to do this, he'd still be here as like a backup. But
02:54I, I, if you take Ty Simpson at six, I would, to me, that says you're expecting him
03:00to start pretty quickly here.
03:02I think when it comes to Ty Simpson, nice kid. I'm just using all the eraser
03:09phrases. Let me just, you guys know how I feel about Ty Simpson. Nice enough guy.
03:12Let's call it what it is. I think that there's so many organizations out there
03:16that are not the Raiders that are looking at 2027 going, if we need a quarterback,
03:21that's where we go get them at the top of the first round. That's where we get them
03:24in the first round. I I've been thinking here and I'll just say, I think we're going
03:27to have a conversation about Ty Simpson Friday morning, getting ready for round two.
03:31I think we're going to go, I think Anthony and I are going to go over the
03:34first overall, the first round pick at number six, or we're probably gonna, we're
03:37more than likely going to trade back. So we're gonna be going over our first
03:40round pick at number 12. And then the conversation is going to be, should we
03:43move up in the third, in the second round to go after Ty Simpson? That's what I
03:48think it's going to be. I think he's going to be there on Friday morning.
03:51The only reason it might not is if a team really says, like if the Jets decide
03:55they're at 33 and they're like, you know what? We want that 50 option and they
03:58trade up and get them. They may decide that, but I will be surprised.
04:01I think he slides. And that's the thing that like sort of shocked me about
04:05Mary Kay saying at six, you would take Ty Simpson. Cause you have two firsts. And
04:11if you think he's even going to slip a little bit, you could always trade up
04:14even from 24 to 19, 18, whatever, to, to try to get him. If you felt like you
04:21really needed having two first gives you that flexibility where I don't think
04:24you have to overdo it at six and just take a quarterback to take a quarterback.
04:29I, I, that, that's the thing that sort of surprised me the most. Cause
04:32and I know she, and that's the other thing she brought up, like the hit rate of
04:34quarterbacks in the first round is about 50%. So, okay, well you got two picks.
04:38Okay. So you can still maybe make, make that worthwhile or maybe have another, be
04:43another example of a team that takes a quarterback that has a good hit rate.
04:46Cause it's 50, 50. I don't think it has to be at six. I also think, I think it was
04:49good. She clarified. She doesn't think the Browns will do that because Andrew
04:52Andrew Barry continues to be adamant. Like I'm not just drafting for need and I'm
04:57not going to sit there and be like, ah, there's a quarterback at six. So I'm
05:00taking them at six. If they have other players graded ahead of Ty Simpson, I'm
05:03imagining they're going to probably take those prioritize those guys.
05:06We know less. I'll say on her, on her behalf, even though she's just spoke for
05:09herself for 20 minutes, I will say this to try to see it halfway. Then I'm going to
05:13go to break because we got a team to give away for the fan mock draft. And we got
05:16Miles Simmons at nine 20 and I got a, I got a new champions pose at nine 45. There
05:21were a lot of people who called up there. Actually, there was one guy, but there
05:23were tweets calling up about or getting in last year about Jackson dart. And
05:27there's a lot of people doing a victory lap about Jackson dart and going, well,
05:29would you have taken Jackson dart at number two? If you could, if you could redo
05:31it overall. So maybe she ends up being right. Cause we know as little as we've
05:35ever known about quarterbacks because everything that's gone on in college
05:39football over the last five years. There is the Todd Monk and Ty Simpson
05:41relationship there too. So, so Mary Kay mentioned Ty Simpson at six. Um, okay.
05:49Uh, no, I wouldn't do that. Well, cause I've been kind of kicking her. This is a weird draft
05:55because you know, we keep saying like, all right, I trade down. I trade down. I trade
05:59down. Are we going around the room saying that we would trade down if we're, if, if
06:02we had to make that decision, right? Yes. That's my ideal scenario. Okay. I also think
06:06it's going to be harder to do that though. I think Mary Kay alluded to this a little
06:10bit. I think it's going to be harder than we realize. Well, you might be, you might be
06:13stuck in some certain aspect. However, I did like, I know I'm going to rip
06:16Jonathan at nine 45. I like what Jonathan said. Jeremiah love might be the one guy that
06:21somebody might move up from six, seven, eight to go get. I don't know if anybody's going
06:26to go crazy and give you a slew of picks, Ricky Williams style, but somebody might move
06:31up. Yes. Owen. Well, I was just going to say, I, I know they have safeties, but man,
06:35if Caleb downs is there, like if he's a player and we've all seen him. So I know he was
06:40good
06:40in college, but if he's as good as they're saying that he's going to be, I think that'd
06:46be an extreme miss to not take him because of who you have on the roster. I think that
06:51depends on like the dolphins need a wide receiver. They don't, they just traded Jalen Waddle.
06:55Maybe they get greedy because they love Carnell the most, but I think this wide receiver class
06:59and part of the reason why I would be okay with the Browns trading back is because this
07:01wide receiver class is deep enough. And I don't think the drop-off from Carnell Tate,
07:07Makai Lemon is, is so far to like Tyson and Omar Cooper Jr. who I love at potentially 24.
07:14Like I, I think, I think you can wait on wide receiver. So maybe what's interesting though
07:18is like the two positions we're talking about teams trading up for, and this is where I agree.
07:24Jeremiah Love is easily top two in this draft class. Like that's one of the big things in
07:30being out in Arizona and sort of just talking to people and hearing what people had to say.
07:33Hey, people love Jeremiah Love as a prospect in this draft. But what's interesting about
07:38the two positions we're talking about, maybe teams trading up for is that they're two of
07:42the more devalued positions in football, like running back and safety. Are those positions
07:46that are really going to entice teams enough? Now somebody can get crazy. Jerry Jones gets
07:50crazy sometimes. Jerry Jones gets crazy sometimes. So maybe Jerry Jones says, Hey, I really love
07:55that Jeremiah Love. He did the same thing with Zeke Elliott back in the day. And maybe he's
07:59like, I got to trade up and get him. So I'm not saying you can't sell somebody on it, but
08:02I do wonder
08:03about that. That's a great point, Spencer. But if I'm getting fewer sure things out of my
08:06quarterback situation here, running back becomes more valuable. Okay? Because I had a guy like
08:13Nick Chubb. Nick Chubb, when he was in his prime, made life better on the quarterbacks that he played
08:18with. Made life better on Baker Mayfield. Made it an easier takeoff for Baker Mayfield. And Browns fans
08:24know that because he could fall forward and still get you four yards. And if Jeremiah Love can do that,
08:28and we never really tried Nick catching anything. I mean, Jeremiah Love had what? 280 out of the
08:34backfield last year. Three touchdowns. 27 catches, I think. I've memorized it by now. I mean, he's done
08:40a lot for Notre Dame. And if you could bring a guy like that in, can he be a weapon?
08:44Can you line
08:45him up in the slot? Can you make sure that he's able to get the football? Can we run some
08:48tunnels
08:49there? Can we maybe mismatch and maybe get somebody else matched up on him and see what we can do?
08:53Like, there's a lot of things that you can do. I got to be thinking of whether or not I'm
08:56stuck.
08:57Like, if I start working the phones, if nobody wants to move up, then nobody wants to move up,
09:02and I might be forced to do something here. So I have to find somebody who's going to make an
09:05impact for me. So I'm not the only person I've been pretty close-minded to. And I'm going to get
09:11the phones here in a second, because we got somebody who might agree with Mary Kay. The only person I've
09:16been pretty close-minded to at six has been Ty Simpson. Because I look at our quarterback situation,
09:23he would absolutely. Did Mary Kay mention this? Because I kind of went delirious.
09:28Ty Simpson would probably kill this quarterback conversation that we're having right now.
09:32The whole Deshaun Watson, Shador.
09:33She said, well, her comment on that was she didn't think it would mean, like, Shador's just out.
09:37Like, it wouldn't necessarily eliminate him.
09:39I think it would.
09:40You take a, I mean, Ken, you take a quarterback at six, you're telling everybody right there,
09:44we think this guy's good at, you take a top 10 quarterback, you're telling everybody,
09:47this is our future starter at quarterback. So how long are you really going to start
09:51Deshaun Watson and Shador Sanders ahead of him before you pivot to him?
09:54I think you're, I just think you're going to move on from the other two.
09:57He gets put in the situation you brought up earlier, where you were like, is it better
09:58for Shador to stay behind Deshaun because then everyone likes him more?
10:01If he's the backup, the primary backup to Deshaun to start the season or something,
10:04then it's like, when are you going to get to Ty Simpson? I want to see him.
10:07I think your trick, because he, I don't think he wants to cut anybody.
10:10Andrew has always said a million times, he uses quarterbacks as their currency.
10:13So I think he'd get whatever he can for Dylan Gabriel.
10:16I think he'd get whatever he can for Shador Sanders.
10:18I know the fans are much more excited about Shador than other teams.
10:21So I think he'd get whatever he can out of those guys.
10:23Remember you're on camera when you make that face, Spencer, on YouTube live for absolutely free,
10:2792.3 The Fan.
10:29He would do that. And then I think it would be Deshaun Watson to start the season.
10:33It would be Ty Simpson would be his backup.
10:37And then I think you would probably either bring in another veteran somewhere off the heap.
10:42Tyler Huntley's been signed, right? So you're not bringing it.
10:45I hate to say off the heap. You're bringing in a veteran there.
10:47You went back to Baltimore, yes.
10:48Okay, Josh Johnson is with his 18th team, so you can't bring in 39-year-old Josh Johnson.
10:53So you might bring in somebody else, and that's the way you go.
10:55I mean, just saying it sounds like I'm just wasting everybody's time.
10:57I'm sorry. Let me go to the phone.
10:59Guardians won last night. They're 4-3 coming back home to Cleveland, everybody.
11:03Gavin Williams struck out 10. He was outstanding.
11:06And when Gabby Arias hits a home run that stayed in the air for what seemed like 15 minutes,
11:13it stayed in the air like a Dylan Gabriel pass.
11:17I was going to say it was a rocket launch.
11:18To dead center, that's when you know you're doing well.
11:23Sorry, guys.
11:27Fine. Nick in a car. Talk me into it.
11:31I really don't want to talk anyone into it.
11:34At the end of the day, and Lyman mentioned this weeks ago, guys, we arguably have the worst quarterback room
11:42in the league,
11:43and it sucks that Ty Simpson is the second-best quarterback in the draft.
11:49But, Spencer, I don't think you're saying that Ty Simpson is your future.
11:54You're simply saying, we don't have a quarterback.
11:57It's the most important position in all of professional sports.
12:01He's the best quarterback on the board at that point, and that's why we're taking him.
12:06Now, me personally, you guys mentioned Caleb Downs.
12:09Caleb Downs is my number one choice there because I do believe he's generational.
12:13I think he's getting comparisons.
12:17Paul Amalu, Ed Reed, he's getting those type of comparisons, and it's not from people in Ohio.
12:21It's from, you know, people everywhere.
12:24So, he's my number one choice.
12:26But, again, I'm not, like, banging the drum for Ty Simpson and thinking Ty Simpson is great.
12:32But, guys, you have a horrendous quarterback room.
12:35It's the Jets, the Cardinals, and the Browns.
12:38Nick, how old are you?
12:39They're horrible quarterback rooms.
12:40How old are you?
12:4246.
12:4346. Well, you sound younger.
12:45I'll give you that.
12:46Well, thank you.
12:47How long have you been talking about needing a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns?
12:51Your whole life, right?
12:52Basically?
12:53Since you were a young kid since Bernie.
12:55I was around for Bernie, so, I mean, those were fun days.
12:58I was also, I was very young.
13:00I was, I had no idea.
13:02I was very naive how good we had it at that time.
13:05Yeah, for the record, if I ever saw Elway walking the streets, I'd punch him in his horse teeth.
13:11Reckless!
13:12Anyway.
13:13I agree with you.
13:14Oh, yeah, you're a Chiefs fan.
13:15Yeah, yeah, well, that's something, we can all get along.
13:18Let me, let me throw this at you, Nick.
13:20Nick, I don't want to be hand-to-mouth about this position anymore.
13:24And that's the way I feel.
13:25Just better than what we have isn't the answer.
13:27Better than what we have, it's like saying the same thing, like, oh, he's better than what we've had in
13:31the past.
13:32That's not a high bar.
13:34Don't you, don't you want to click in?
13:35Let me think of this.
13:37Guys, Nick, you got, you're getting me going on a tangent, and thank you very much.
13:40I can hear the sigh, and I invite you to call in at another time, Nick,
13:43because I've got to let you go, because I've got to get this off my chest.
13:47Spencer German in for tone today.
13:49Not just that.
13:51For the last week, I have dealt with people, and I don't try to be mean about it,
13:58because it doesn't work, and it would be silly to be mean about it.
14:01There are plenty of good Guardians fans, and they go, you guys aren't talking enough Guardians.
14:04And I understand.
14:05Guys, we live in your world.
14:06You don't live in ours.
14:07It's a four-hour show.
14:08You get in the car for 15, 20 minutes.
14:10Damn it, you're excited about something.
14:11You get mad when we're not talking about what you're excited about.
14:14I understand it, and I apologize.
14:15And the only thing I can say is go to the free Odyssey app where we started,
14:19and we had plenty of Guardians earlier today, okay?
14:21I apologize.
14:22You can use the free Odyssey app and the rewind feature presented by Integrated Restoration,
14:27your local experts in water, fire, and storm disaster restoration.
14:30But let me give you a future.
14:32Go with me for one more year on this.
14:35One more year.
14:36We're all in this together.
14:38We're all lifers.
14:40One more year of this.
14:41Because don't you want to envision a March of 2028?
14:46Don't you want to envision a March where it's like, hey, Gavin Williams is the number one
14:51pitcher, or Parker Messick is the number one pitcher, and Chase DeLotter.
14:55Is Chase DeLotter an MVP?
14:56Should David Blitzer be paying Chase DeLotter already?
14:592-1-6.
14:59Instead of quarterback, quarterback, quarterback, quarterback.
15:02Is it not the obsession?
15:03Wouldn't you think that I would like to get out of this purgatory and stop having to figure
15:07out what these guys had for breakfast and who was on whose social media about this?
15:12I'm serious, guys.
15:13Who should have the facility?
15:14I don't want to.
15:15I don't.
15:15I don't set out for anything.
15:17I understand that we have the term rage bait anymore.
15:20I don't set out to get yelled at on the internet by fans of the same teams I am because
15:25we're
15:25not talking about them at that time.
15:26I want to be released from that prison.
15:29I am willing to deal with it one more year before I can get and settle on a guy that
15:35I think is going to work for this team or give it the best crack at it we possibly can.
15:39That's the issue.
15:40When you don't have a quarterback, you do it.
15:43And I understand that there's places that maybe they have a quarterback and they're just
15:46not going to be excited about anything and they're going to be terrible.
15:49I'm not trying to be that guy.
15:51I'm not.
15:52So if you're saying, well, he's just better than what we have.
15:55That's not much.
15:57That's not much.
15:58That's not a high bar better than what we have is not very good.
16:02Where are you comfortable taking time?
