00:29wants to do differently is utilize his legs he said watching these first few week one games you see quarterbacks use their legs in big spots I haven't always done that in early season games I have to give us that advantage and we're going to get to see if he's able to do that right away Cleveland won the toss and they have deferred so Cincinnati with a football first Charlie Jones from the 15 yard line Jones across the 30 and he's torn down at the 42 and here comes Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati offense of course
00:59Joe had a tremendous individual season last year you see the numbers he wasn't happy though because it didn't result in a playoff no that's all that he is about he's not about individual accolades anymore he wants to win a Super Bowl championship and you look at the numbers he threw up last year I mean they're they're all time style of numbers playing at the quarterback position but that's that's not the goal anymore and I love the fact that he challenged the organization they gave him the pieces that he feels they need to get over the top

04:12But when you hear us talk a lot about rush and coverage and is there a team that can send out a combination like Miles Garrett and
04:19Denzel Ward when you talk about rush coverage
04:21I think the secondary is gonna have to play really really well today. There's a little bit of unknown there
04:25That's a good mix of veteran and youth and we'll see how this defense comes together

04:34Trying to power his way for the first down and it looks like he's got it just across the 46 yard line
04:40Which is where he needed to get for the first down and the Bengals keep it moving
04:45Look at chase Brown a guy who in his 10 starts last year average just under
04:52105 scrimmage yards per game is the fastest from snap to line of scrimmage in the national football
04:58Yeah, and some of the things that that he has in his toolboxes is why this run game is going to change a little bit
05:03We'll show you it's not gonna be so much on the outside. You've already seen it here on this opening drive

05:50Today as Brown gets the carry and chase Brown to the 40-yard line sets up an interesting third and four here

06:00Yeah, and I think that that shows you right there just the confidence when you talked about this offensive line maybe being the best one
06:07That Joe burrow has had second and ten a lot of confidence right there to go with the run game and give you a nice manageable third down here

08:28But I I'm looking forward to seeing chase Brown kind of break formation and get out and get into the slot and run wide receiver style routes for this office

08:47He's a yard shy of a Cincinnati first down trying to overcome that five-yard penalty. They've got it the third one
08:58It's just one of the things it's underrated about Jamar chase, right? He's such a big body. He's got such a great skill set and

09:10And just right there just that that physicality that big body to be able to get you to this third short situation

09:48But these runs the success in this run game have been inside
09:52So real nice job by that guard center guard area for the bangers

11:14But a great job by that entire group on the offensive line of not being on the ground not allowing your guy to be free

12:20But but I like that they've been there they've seen that they play well together
12:23That's one of the biggest things about an offensive line is playing off each other they have that experience
12:28The thing to watch all day with the Browns offense is can they maintain possession turnovers have killed this team giveaways as they find the rookie

14:09Yeah, it was a good conversation with Kevin Stefanski on Friday just going through that whole thing
14:13I mean last year was such a challenge for the Cleveland Browns that he makes the change
14:17And he allows then offensive coordinator Ken Dorothy to kind of take the play calling down the stretch
14:22Because there were a lot of other things that he had to have his attention focused on
14:25So back to calling the plays here to start off 20-25
14:28And off to Ford Ford stacked up trying to break free and down he goes

14:48More than anybody in the league last year
14:50Yeah, and I really think the decision here on fourth down with was really kind of made on third down if we get close
14:55We're gonna go you know for me early in the game
14:58I'm not in favor of this because it's a situation where you give the ball back to the Bengals at this point on the field
15:04And they go down and get up 14 right away and then you're pressing and you're making mistakes
15:09So I know it's fourth and short right here and they went for it more than anybody last season
15:13But I don't agree with this decision

17:51back in comes cedric tillman and it's interesting when you look at this wide receiver core for the
17:56browns darryl jerry judy's the clear number one wide receiver who's going to be that number two guy the
18:00thought is it's tillman assuming he can stay healthy yeah i think it's going to be based on who's in
18:05the lineup at that time they've all got their little packages they've all got unique skill sets
18:09there's not one guy that stepped forward and won that number two wide receiver spot and then don't
18:14forget about those tight ends contributing black hole looking for judy he had coverage all over and
18:20from cam taylor brett the flag is dropped

18:32and a man on the outside back turn little hitch right there and yeah he's got him locked up a

20:19and you can see you know the conversations that they've had with him working through this whole
20:23process if they can just get good quarterback play from joe flacco during the course of the season

27:50at arkansas signed by the chargers as an undrafted rookie cut at the end of the preseason brown scooped him up
28:01and he crosses the goal line to tie this game in cleveland the battle of ohio is off to a tremendous

28:38charlie jones going airborne and down near the 40 yard line bengals got off to that fast start but
28:46usually it's been a slow start for these cincinnati bengals the offensive games one and two
28:51you see what they do the rest of the season they've got to be pleased i know they're one and
28:57nine in the first two games of the season they're not pleased with that but they are very pleased with
29:01the way they started this game on offense today yeah they have to be happy with what they did
29:04offensively but it's such a complimentary game and one of the things that new defensive coordinator al
29:09golden told us and we don't know a lot about what this defense is going to be but there's some
29:13principles and one of the big ones was we cannot allow the opposition to hold the ball and keep joe burrow
29:20in this offense sitting on the bench they did not do that in the first possession of the season nine
29:26minutes and 50 seconds late clock under five and they're going to have to use a timeout after the
29:33kickoff timeout joe burrow has to use the timeout 12 36 remaining in this first half and a 7-7 game in
29:44cleveland so a moment ago joe burrow wanted to play quicker didn't get it well you first you start
29:50with your finger if that doesn't get the playing quicker then you kind of open it up a little
29:53get you get the elbow involved look at that the last offensive snap was at 1 12 p.m eastern time for
30:00those that don't have their phone or clock handy that's 30 minutes now between offensive snaps for the

31:41not been here long signed after the preseason patrick having that leg tended to again

31:57and a timeout while they tend to lucas patrick 7-7 in cleveland
32:06now lucas patrick a little frustrated as he walks gingerly into the blue tent dalton reisner who was
32:12signed after the preseason to play that right guard spot he comes in on third and eight

32:48runs a nice little curl out route right there and a nice job by greg newsome kind of seeing that whole
32:53thing last second trying to make a play dislodged that completion but can't do it good finish by mike

33:07throws it short with the pocket collapsing finding samaj p ryan to the 44 yard line just a one-yard pickup
33:15isaiah mcguire had the pressure but again the one place you don't want to be against this browns defense
33:21is third and law that's 39 that's a really good conversion for this bangles offense remember we
33:26talked about that opening drive they were very good at staying ahead of the change third and one
33:29twice third and four once converted all three that's more confidence right there hey if even if we do
33:36get into that third and long spot we know we can execute when we play it the right way huge emphasis for
33:42zach taylor getting into third and short and converting on third and short as burrow going deep for jamar chase
33:49one-on-one with denzel ward we talked about that matchup early in the broadcast jamar chase said
33:56ward is his toughest cover good coverage there yeah there they are on the outside one versus 21 it's
34:02just outstanding i love the respect that each of them have look at him flip his hips he sees the ball
34:07going to the outside but but where he was from a positional standpoint he never allowed jamar chase to
34:14get on top of him he never allowed anything that you would do from just a positioning standpoint excellent job
34:19by denzel warden he's allowed 11 chase catches in 19 times in coverage prior to this one
34:29third nine burrow backside pressure steps away chased by garrett down he goes
34:37got to the 42 yard line but miles garrett had the heat immediately on joe burrow
34:42i just i don't know what you do he is just so explosive and so dynamic look he's on the upfield
34:50shoulder and it's just a continual motion to get to joe burrow
34:59as alison talked about joe wanted to use his legs a little bit more but not necessarily in that
35:04situation no you don't want him using his legs running away from miles garrett
35:09ryan rico on to punt trying to pin the browns deep
35:13beyondre carter is the deep man and rico's punt reaches the end zone for a touchback

35:29joe flacco is the 20th different week one starting quarterback the browns have used in the 27th
35:39season since returning to the nfl in 1999 that said that's a laundry list this might take us to
35:44halftime but far the most in the league as we run through all those pictures flacco back out there

35:57and for joe flacco we were talking with him daryl about playing a long time and he said i think it
36:01comes down to just wanting to do it he said when you retire at 30 you get to a point mentally where
36:06you don't want to do it anymore he said it's nice every once in a while to remind myself that i'm in
36:10a pretty good position we're playing in the best league in the world because i kind of like to do
36:16that to keep myself fresh i love this perspective of a lot of times it's not the physical it's the mental
36:21dream that gets you and and he's been blessed to be able to stay healthy but he's been able to
36:26embrace the mental approach to this game as well and he's not fatigued and he's fresh man in motion
36:31flacco off the play fake pressure comes and as he's being hit he throws that ball over the middle tj
36:37slayton providing the heat first in completion for flacco was there a receiver in the area
36:45and i think the big thing when we talk about joe flacco is getting a little bit of pressure right
36:49in here up into his face and kind of squeezing everything you've got your edge rushers that are going
36:54to contain him you don't got to worry about joe flacco as much as you do joe burrow getting
36:59outside so can you get that push up through the middle that's what the bengals were able to do on
37:04that for that last one and a couple of guys in the area so 38 now for the browns
37:15flacco sets up the screen but it's batted down and the pass incomplete

40:05like it was going nowhere mason graham the rookie from michigan was right there he picks up six yeah just
40:12watch the move in the line of scrimmage and for a guy that hits the line of scrimmage very quickly
40:17to be able to be in that position and get away from mason graham uh i mean who jim schwartz you
40:23know raved about and just his transition from how he played at michigan and what they asked him to
40:28do there to what he's doing now in his defense he's got him dead to rights in the backfield and just

40:37second four bengals on the move in a 7-7 ball game brown again with the carry and brown
40:44tackle by isaiah mcguire after a two-yard gain so now third and two the short yardage third down that

40:56they have not been able to stay ahead of the chains and they've gotten into a couple of third nines they've
41:01found a way to be able to convert there as well so this offense just continues to gain confidence

41:12talked about this offensive line you want to see what it does when you get to the regular season they've
41:16really stood up on third and two burrow is in trouble gets away garrett on the chase finds his
41:23intended target samajay p-rod and that's a first down yeah did miles garrett get get a hold of some

42:24you know he he's on the same level as jamar he's kind of grabbing he's restricting his movement
42:30you know denzel played that with position with his feet and never really let jamar get on top of him
42:35and it's just a different style greg newsome playing a little bit more physical
42:38you know not not not as clean with his feet and getting in the right position and when you do that
42:43a lot of times that's where the penalty comes from first and goal

44:07one of the good things we're seeing here with this run game by the cincinnati bangles we talked about it
44:11on a run earlier in the game all these offensive linemen staying on their feet nobody's on the ground
44:15you continue to push you're able to move that pile when you get those those situations where the the
44:20defense is trying to get that run stopped
44:23cody ford lined up at the fullback spot in the backfield an extra jumbo package on third and goal

44:35he's going to be right here and the defender that you're going to just kind of shoot that gap
