00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04We've seen a rash of showers today, feeling bitter in that strong and gusty wind.
00:10The blues covering the whole of the country.
00:12Winds easing into tomorrow, the risk of ice overnight, but some sunshine before this system comes in,
00:19bringing with it clouds and also outbreaks of rain.
00:22And then the winds pick up again, particularly across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:25Further showers, there will be a wittory mix towards the north.
00:29The wind's strong yet again and into the weekend.
00:32Yet more wet weather on its way, particularly Sunday and then into Monday.
00:36For the time being, we do have this feature just running down from Northern Ireland,
00:41the Isle of Man towards Wales and also the Midlands.
00:44Further showers also across this eastern strip with a relentless and cold northwest wind.
00:50Across Scotland, expect some snow to settle above around 200-300 metres.
00:56But inland, there's some clearer skies.
00:59And certainly a frost will form very quickly overnight as these showers extend from Wales
01:05towards central southern England into the early hours of tomorrow morning.
01:08At the same time, we will see showers along this east coast and a few running in towards the west.
01:13But inland, starry skies, a cold night, a widespread frost and where you've seen those showers through the day
01:19and overnight, the risk of some patches of ice.
01:23So a very cold start to the day come Thursday morning, sub-zero across many areas.
01:29And yes, a few showers in the mix.
01:31Certainly, these showers will be frequent across Shetland, clipping Orkney through the first part of the morning.
01:36A mix of rain, hail as well as snow.
01:38And then quieter conditions as we head through morning, heading out to school and work.
01:44You'll see some sunshine, which will be pleasant.
01:47A lighter wind away from this east coast.
01:49But notice across Northern Ireland, the cloud will thicken and we'll see some showery bursts of rain.
01:54Rain also just making inroads across western Scotland by around mid-morning.
02:00Through the morning into the afternoon, you can see this wet weather marching towards central parts of Scotland.
02:05Lunchtime into the afternoon, eastern areas as well.
02:09And further spells of wet weather for Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, as well as Northern England.
02:14The cloud will thicken across the far north of Wales.
02:16But elsewhere, you'll see some fine weather to end Thursday.
02:20Yes, still a bit chilly outside, even so not as cold as today.
02:25And yes, you'll see some sunny spells.
02:27But a wet end to the day.
02:29Across Scotland, Northern Ireland, the far north of England.
02:33And the winds then pick up across more western areas of Scotland and Northern Ireland through evening time.
02:38Here are your temperatures.
02:39Well, after a cold start, a frosty one, we'll see temperatures rising to around 7 or 8 across Scotland.
02:479 for Northern Ireland and possibly a 10 in shelter across more central and southern areas of England and Wales.
02:55Now, through Thursday evening, this batch of wet weather continues its passage not only eastwards, but it will head southwards
03:03as well.
03:04The back edge of this weather front, this rain, will bring with it some strong winds into Thursday night across
03:10the northwest as the rain sporadically pushes in across Wales and makes inroads towards eastern counties of England.
03:18And then eventually the midlands and then eventually the midlands and the west country into the early hours of Friday
03:21morning.
03:22First thing on Friday, we will hang on to some drier weather anywhere from the east midlands southeastwards.
03:28And you can see the cloud breaking up across Northern Ireland and central Scotland with a rash of showers again
03:35moving in on a brisk breeze across the northwest of Scotland.
03:39So here temperatures will fall overnight, 3 or 4 degrees Celsius under clearer skies, and it will be a chilly
03:45start to the day across more central and eastern areas.
03:48We could even see a touch of frost for East Anglia.
03:50Even so, through Friday, a different feel to things across more central and southern areas as this rain continues its
03:58passage southeastwards.
03:59A slow process.
04:01Brighter skies come through across Northern Ireland, Scotland, the far north of England through the latter part of the day.
04:07However, these showers will be frequent across Scotland and Northern Ireland, having a wintry mix over the higher ground, perhaps
04:14some drier weather.
04:15For a time across southern Scotland, Cumbria and Northumberland, eventually Gwynedd as well as Anglesey as you see that rain
04:23clear.
04:24But through afternoon and into evening time, that's where we continue to see the passage of that rain arrive across
04:30the home counties as well as the southeast.
04:33So that's the picture on Friday.
04:34Saturday into Sunday, we'll see some fine weather, still a few showers before more rain arrives.
04:39Check out our 10-day trend.
04:41This week it's with Annie.
04:42I'll see you later.
