00:00If we're sitting here talking about Deshaun Watson having a legitimate chance to be the
00:05starting quarterback in week one, I can't sell that to fans. I'm sorry. I just, I can't do it
00:14and I'm not going to do it. And, um, you know, I, I, you came after me, Nick Wilson came
00:21after me.
00:22It's not about me hating on Todd Munkin or not giving Munkin a chance or not being fair to Todd
00:30Munkin. I simply was just trying to paint a realistic picture based on where this organization
00:37is right now. And the roster that Munkin has to work with the Odell Beckham Jr. isn't on this
00:45roster anymore. Jarvis Landry is not on this roster anymore. Nick Chubb's not on this roster anymore.
00:50Baker Mayfield's not on this roster anymore. Okay. So when I'm having to talk about, well,
00:56Jamari Thrash might be able to do this and that, and Cedric Tillman, maybe this and that, because,
01:00you know, Todd Munkin now will be able to develop him because Kevin Stefanski couldn't develop anybody.
01:05And, and, you know, we get into this whole conversation about, you know, why was Kevin
01:10fired? Was it because the players hated his guts? Yes. Check. We know that. Okay. Was it because
01:16he failed to develop enough talent? Yes. Check. Andrew Barry said as much was because they didn't
01:21win enough games, even though they want, they did win eight the last two years. One of the worst
01:27offenses in the NFL. Kevin is a, an offensive guy. Yes. Check. Jimmy Haslam told us that's why
01:32they, they fired Kevin. Like we, we know why they are where they're at, but, and this was with
01:41Spencer German and Earl Dupur yesterday, had Daniel Ofusi from ESPN on and Daniel is one of the best in
01:48the business and, and great. He echoed a lot of what I have been saying about the current state of
01:56affairs when it comes to the Browns and the fact that, yeah, they're coming off a five and 12 season,
02:02but they could have won more games last year. And I think that is the baseline of what Todd Munkin
02:12is walking into. Here's Daniel with Spencer and Earl yesterday here on the fan.
02:19I don't think it's going to be like a one and done situation until, unless like Munkin completely
02:23falls on his face. And I mean, just, just kind of knowing who he is as an offensive line, what
02:28he's
02:28able to do in Baltimore. Like, I don't, I don't think that that's the case. But you also got to
02:32keep in mind, like what the owner, what ownership has said, you know, and Jimmy Haslam did say,
02:38like, he thought that this was a roster in 2025 that was better than its, than its five and 12
02:43record. He thought that they were able to win a lot more games and they're not really like
02:48rebuilding this thing. They're in a weird spot, obviously with, with the quarterback situation,
02:52but it's not like they're tearing the thing down. So, I mean, they're adding, they're, they're,
02:57they're building this team up, especially this off season with like the intent to win
03:02games. Now, honestly, like the quarterback situation is just remains like the, the big
03:06question mark, but like they're expecting to win games. Are they expecting to be a Super
03:11Bowl contender? I don't know about that. Like, I think that internally, like to a man, they
03:15would say, we're not there yet. We're not ready to take that leap. But I think that Todd
03:20Munkin was brought partly in due to the fact that they thought that he could develop players
03:25and that he could build a system that could put forth a better, way better product, especially
03:30on offense that we saw the past year. So I think that there's going to be obviously some
03:34patience for the new coach and time for him to get his players and institute his vision
03:38and his scheme. But yeah, I mean, I, I think that there's an expectation that this team is
03:43going to be better, you know, than last year, you know, given the coaching change and the
03:48amount of resources that they're going to pour into this offense in the draft next month.
03:51And again, as Daniel Fusi with Spencer and Earl yesterday here on the fan and he's 100%
03:59right. And it's what I have been saying all off season, you know, ownership fell. There
04:07were two to three more wins on that schedule last year. Vikings losing that game. Kevin
04:15totally blew that one clock management and everything else. Right. And then you lose two
04:21at the time, you know, uh, horrible teams, winless jets and Titans, right? You can't lose
04:29those games. So yes, if Todd Monk, I think this is a two year test run for Todd Monk in
04:37here. Okay. And this is what I was trying to say last week. Go this year, go win the games.
04:44You lost last year. Okay. So that now means your seven, eight wins this fall. Okay. And looking
04:53at the opponents, that seems that, that seems pretty doable. It's reasonable, reasonable,
05:00not completely, not if Deshaun Watson's quarterback, but it did reasonable. Now then it turns into,
05:11okay, whoever the quarterback is in 27, right? Draft, whatever veteran trade, however, they
05:20worked that all out. Can Todd Monk can then go from the getting, getting the team where they
05:28were expected to be last year, this year with this roster, largely intact the way it is on
05:35the offensive side of the ball. Can then you take that seven, eight wins and get to nine
05:42to 11 in the following year. And then if you can't, I very well could see another coaching
05:51change. Well, the big elephant in the room with that is going to be how the quarterback
05:55thing comes along. That's the elephant in the room is that it's, it contract alone will tell
06:01you that it's probably not Deshaun long-term and Shador Sanders would really need to turn
06:07heads to stop them from drafting one in 2027. So the last part of what Ofusi said though,
06:17is what's giving me hope that this Monken thing can work in this coming season and at least start
06:23to get the car back on the road is because they still have these draft picks that are going to
06:29be
06:29used on the offensive side of the ball. Well, they got five in the top 110 right now and they
06:33got nine total. Five of those are in the more specifically in the top 107. Okay. Um, that is
06:42phenomenal draft capital to play with. Yep. And if Andrew Barry can replicate what he did last year,
06:51that was the first draft where Paul D Podesta kind of took a little bit of a backseat. At least
06:57that's what the reporting sounds like. If he can replicate it, then they're going to be fine.
07:05But it all, again, it all comes back to who the quarterback is. And this is a question they've
07:11not been able to answer since Bernie Kosar. Yeah, but I don't know that it does. I think you could
07:15get better this year with Shador Sanders as your quarterback. You can get better on the margins this
07:21year. Right. Better, you know, the offensive line, right? They're younger on the offensive line.
07:25They're more versatile on the offensive line. I will concede that that is how, because the question
07:32I was going to ask you is, okay, well, how are the Browns off offensively better than they were
07:36four weeks ago? I will concede that from the, from an offensive line standpoint, they're a little
07:44younger, they're a little more versatile, knock on wood, just based on the looking at the guys they
07:51brought in, knock on wood, maybe a little more durable than they've been in recent years. Right.
07:56Yep. Even though there's no guarantee to that, but like right now, I, everything Andrew Barry has
08:01done this off season makes 110% sense. Okay. There's nothing he has done where I can sit here and
08:08yell
08:08and scream and say, he doesn't know what he's doing. And these are bad moves. And this is going to
08:12blow up
08:13in his face. My frustrations with Barry and the Browns and the, the offense, I don't have any
08:19frustrations with Munkin. I don't have an ax to grind with Munkin. Okay. It's, I'm looking at the
08:27skill positions right now, and I think they are woefully deficient outside of Harold Fannin Jr.
08:35and, and, and Quinshawn Judkins. I'm willing to throw Dylan Sampson in there because of just,
08:43we saw some things, we saw some bursts from him. Like he could catch the ball out of the back
08:49field a little bit. He could end up being a real good compliment to Judkins, assuming that Judkins
08:55stays healthy. That's again, that's another, you know, part of this that's out of their control.
09:01So let me ask you this. Do you feel better about the entire operation? If they land,
09:06you and I are both operating under the belief right now, their, their left tackles coming
09:10in the draft. Correct. So say they land that left tackle, let's just say it's six, or maybe
09:14they do a small trade back and they're able to get Monroe Freeling, the left tackle out of
09:19Georgia. And there's much debate about his readiness or. I like taking the tackle with that
09:24first pick and then taking the receiver with the 20. So the reason for that is value, uh,
09:32contractual value. And then also to, you know, I I've heard a lot in recent weeks about how this
09:39receiver class is really good. There's not tremendous drop-off between, you know, the numbers two and
09:50three of the receiver class and seven, eight, nine in this class. There's not a, there's not a massive
09:58talent gap there. So I am going in thinking either at six or a small, and I do mean small
10:08trade down.
10:10Okay. That's your left tackle. And then at 24, or if they bump back up, then you take your, your,
10:18who, what you project to be your number one receiver. Cause to me, Jarvis Landry, or I'm,
10:24I'm sorry, uh, not Jarvis Landry. He's on my mind because of all the things I had to say about
10:28Kevin Stefanski, Jerry Judy. Okay. When he's in the right frame of mind and he's in the right
10:34environment, he's, he can be a good player. We saw that his first year here, he was motivated to
10:40get, he was out of Denver. He was riding the high on just like being away, getting away from
10:45everything that troubled him. There came here, had a thousand yard season, had a career year.
10:51And then this past season turned back into Denver again, the quarterback carousel making mental
10:58mistakes that, you know, and just like things compounded from, uh, for him. Sure. And the
11:04attitude was, was pretty sour for most of the year. He's a number two receiver. He's not a number
11:10one. And that's not me taking shots at Jerry. He was asked to be something that he's not. And this
11:17is many a problem with the Browns over the years is they're always asking guys to fill roles that
11:24they're not qualified to fill. And again, that's not taking shots at anyone in particular. I think
11:31Jerry Judy is a perfectly fine number two wide receiver. He's not a number one. He he's not the
11:38first guy you'd look to throw the football to. Okay. He shouldn't be, but he had to be because
11:43well, that's what they had. So if, would you feel better? And this is hypothetical. So it's,
11:49it's difficult to live in these worlds, but I I'm curious to hear your thoughts about this.
11:54I'm with you. I want to see them go left tackle first. I also think again, they're a data driven
12:00organization. The data will tell you that if you take your franchise left tackle in the top 10 of the
12:06NFL draft over the last decade, you're more likely to have that player turn into an all pro go look
12:13at
12:13all pros at the left tackle position in the last decade. The majority of them are our top 15 draft
12:21picks. So it would benefit the Browns to take that first. Then at 24 and 39, what if they doubled
12:27down
12:28on receiver? What if you could get a Jalen Tyson with then somebody at 39, that's one of these more
12:36running the mills. Like you said, all these guys that are kind of clumped together in the four to
12:40nine range, like a Casey Concepcion from Texas A&M. Like if you walk out of your third three picks
12:47are a franchise left tackle in the top 10. And then at 24 and 39, you've got some combination of
12:54Tyson and Concepcion, or if they want to go with Boston, who's like six foot four and Casey Concepcion,
13:01who's a little bit smaller. Like, are you feeling a little bit better about things then? Because that
13:07at least says that we're trying to solve pass catcher. We're solving offensive line with a
13:13mountain of a man, whoever they decide to take. They've got plenty of options in this draft class
13:18in round one to get a left tackle. Would you feel any better if then they went back to the
13:23well and
13:23went back to back receivers at 24 and 39 to set whoever is the quarterback up for better success than
13:31what
13:31a year? Yeah, I could live with that. And look, I think they're going to double up. I think they're
13:35going to double up like they did last year. It was, it was running back and quarterback this year.
13:40I think they're good. They will double up receiver and offensive line. I think looking at the nine
13:46picks where they're at, you know what? I'd be willing to bet the farm on that, that they will take
13:51two
13:52wide receivers. They will take two offensive linemen and they should. Right. Um, but so then you've got to
13:59feel a little bit better about the entire thing. I'm never going to feel better about things until
14:04they get the quarterback thing fixed. It's fair. Okay. I just, I mean, you, you, you, you're just
14:09dead where you stand until you get that thing figured out. I just, my preference is that they
14:16go with Shadour this year. I think that there's everything in the world to gain and well, okay.
14:24You might lose some games, but you know what? You've been losing games for 30 years. Okay.
14:29Um, and I just think I don't, the reason I'm so anti to Sean is because I just see no
14:37good
14:37coming from that on both ends of the spectrum, whether he's awful, which is what I think he
14:43would ultimately be. Okay. Or if he's great, then you just, he just threw a whole wrench into
14:51your plans, right? In, in the final year of a contract. Cause then we got it. Then we have
14:56to have the talk of, Oh, well, he's back and he killed either that he's healthy. And do you
15:01extend? I don't even want to have to entertain that conversation. Cause I, my, my hand is on
15:06the eject button right now with him. Okay. Can't, can't get away from it fast enough. A year
15:13from now, I'm looking forward to seeing on the transaction wire contract terminated.
15:20Deshaun Watson quarterback Clemson post June one designation. In fact, I got it in my phone
15:30the new league year when it hits. And then we will have this celebration of celebration.
15:38Isn't it usually written on there too? Watson comma Deshaun. Yes. All right. I wasn't trying
15:44to go that deep in the weeds with it. I'm just visualizing how glory, how glorious that
15:50email is going to look when it comes across. I just, I look it again for me, it's, it's
15:56not that I don't like Todd Munkin. I don't believe in Todd Munkin. I just think sometimes
16:01the Browns can't get out of their own way and they continue to show me that that's the
16:07case. And until they show me that that is no longer the case, I just, I'm just going to
16:13expect the worst.
