00:00The Cowboy Mock Whisperer, Mel Kuyper, has just dropped his latest version after free agency.
00:08So let's see how things get changed up.
00:11Fernando, number one to the Raiders.
00:14Bobby's boy, David Bailey, number two to the New York Jets.
00:20What did the Red Raider fans say yesterday who were also Cowboy fans about trading up if Bailey dropped down
00:26to around six?
00:27Kevin Turner hit me up and said, yes, absolutely.
00:29He is the truth.
00:30Yeah, most everybody I saw was was down.
00:33If he were to get there, they would be interested.
00:35And so but yeah, I mean, obviously he's in contention to go at like number two or number three or
00:41something like that.
00:41So getting out of the top five would be a little much.
00:44Arvel Reese to the Cardinals at three.
00:48Jeremiah Love bumping out.
00:50Tony Pollard at four to the Tennessee Titans.
00:55Caleb Downs to the Giants at number five.
01:00Cleveland is going offensive line.
01:02I've seen an offensive line for them in like everyone.
01:06They want out of that pick.
01:08And so, I mean, I think they probably could bail out of there and get one of their offensive lines.
01:13So I wonder if that's just Kuyper and others are projecting who they think they're going to end up with,
01:17even if it's not at that spot.
01:19They get the Georgia tackle, according to Mel.
01:20So Sonny Stiles to the Commanders at number seven.
01:26Carnell Tate to the Saints at eight.
01:29Reuben Bain.
01:30A lot of cowboy names getting wiped off the board.
01:34Bain to the Chiefs at nine.
01:36That may have been our DFW flight back intel.
01:39As I thought I thought it was Reuben Bain telling someone that he was going to focus on Kansas City
01:45and work out there.
01:49Number 10 to Cincinnati.
01:53Mansoor Delane.
01:54Done.
01:55Baby.
01:56Trading out.
01:57Trading out right there.
01:58Not picking at 12.
02:00I'm out of there.
02:02I would call teams.
02:05You want to give me a player for 12?
02:07You want to trade up for 12?
02:08I don't want to pick at 12.
02:10Call the Raiders.
02:11Max.
02:12That would be very, very bad if you're looking at, like, basically one lineman and one receiver going in the
02:21top ten.
02:21That would hurt.
02:24Miami takes the Miami tackle at 11.
02:27Francis Maui Noah.
02:29Good player.
02:30Yeah.
02:30That end throws me off every time.
02:32And then at number 12.
02:34The Dallas Cowboys.
02:36Have you looked at this?
02:37Yeah.
02:38That was not an enthusiastic yes.
02:42Tennessee volunteer corner Jermaud McCoy.
02:45Dallas gave up a league where 7.3 yards per drop back last season.
02:49And the secondary was gashed for a league high 46 passing plays of 25 or more yards.
02:56I like the Jalen Thompson signing at safety and Kobe Durant will chip in at corner alongside Bland and Revel.
03:03But the Cowboys are still looking for their number one corner.
03:05McCoy does not come without question.
03:07He tore an ACL in January 25, sat out the season, and then did not work out at the Combine.
03:14But he can flat out play football when he's on the field.
03:17Had four picks in 2024.
03:19If Dallas likes what it sees at his March 31 Pro Day, this could be a smart pick.
03:25So you're just out because of the injury.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Look, I mean, he very well could end up being a, like, superstar.
03:32He could.
03:33He's good.
03:33The injury scares us.
03:34Your margins are so narrow right now that I don't know if you want to take a chance on, like,
03:41the, oh, yeah, he could be great.
03:42Or, like, who knows?
03:43He could be totally effed up.
03:44There's no way to know.
03:46That's the risk.
03:47That's the risk.
03:48Now, this is, like, the draft is the ultimate risk-reward play, right?
03:52Do you go for the safe high floor?
03:55Or do you just go guns blazing?
03:57I love, love, love what I see on his tape.
04:01But the tape is old as hell.
04:04It's old.
04:04It's from the Biden administration.
04:07It's like, you know, you can have teams that select the top corner.
04:11We said, you know, with Claiborne.
04:13Didn't work.
04:15Okuda.
04:16Didn't work.
04:16We've seen corners not work.
04:19When you get the top one, you pick the letter.
04:21These guys were healthy.
04:23It is a risk.
04:24Because you just can't translate the position.
04:26It's just very, you know, you're not transiting.
04:28You lost him there.
04:28Give us the Vols breakdown.
04:29He's a good player.
04:30He's a really good player.
04:32He's got ball skills.
04:33I mean, he can lock you down.
04:34He's not like, I didn't remember him being a major risk-taker.
04:38But he still was able to, you know, to get some interceptions.
04:43He's really, really good.
04:44I think if you get him and he's healthy, you've got to steal.
04:48Because he is that.
04:49I mean, if he played last year and he played to the same level
04:53or a little bit better as he did the previous year,
04:56he's not available at 12.
04:57You like him that much?
04:58No, he's top five.
04:59You like him that much more than Hood?
05:01He's bigger.
05:02I don't know how much bigger.
05:03He's longer.
05:04He's not stouter.
05:05Like Hood's.
05:06Hood's stout.
05:07Hood's big guy.
05:08Yeah, I do.
05:08I do.
05:08I think Colton Hood's really good, too.
05:10I mean, Jermon McCoy, like, he has not played in forever
05:13and the last time we saw him play when his tape was this good,
05:16he was a teenager.
05:16He was 19 years old the last time he played football.
05:18He's going to turn 21 in training camp.
05:21Number 13, according to Mel Kuyper, Jr.,
05:25the L.A. Rams take Jordan Tyson.
05:28If that dude can stay healthy, he's a superstar.
05:30A lot of receiver talk for the Rams these days.
05:33Jordan Tyson is Malik neighbors to me.
05:35Ooh!
05:36From Allen, Texas, too.
05:38Allen High School.
05:38Wow.
05:39The Ravens' offensive line at 14 takes Spencer Fano, Utah, Tampa Bay,
05:47Kenyon Sadiq, tight end.
05:49By the way, Dane Brugler had tweeted,
05:51this is the deepest tight end class that he has scouted,
05:56that the tight ends do not stop.
05:58And I'm hearing that the Broncos, Sean Payton,
06:02are kind of interested in tight end as well.
06:05Keep that in mind for your draft day coverage.
06:07New York Jets, Ty Simpson.
06:11We talked about it.
06:12That's smart!
06:12We talked about it yesterday at 2.
06:14Ty Simpson, Bama quarterback at 16.
06:17This is what I think from a team-building standpoint,
06:20this is what a team should do.
06:22If you don't have a quarterback, that's your only job as a general manager
06:24is to find one and take a chance.
06:27Take a chance and get one.
06:29If Ty Simpson doesn't work, Archman is there next year.
06:33Just do the old Arizona Cardinals and move on from one year.
06:36But you get your top, you get Bailey at 2.
06:39If you have two first-round draft picks and you don't have the answer,
06:43you have to take a quarterback with one of them.
06:45We're back to making Arch the number one pick?
06:48Yeah.
06:50Off of one bowl game.
06:52Off of Michigan.
06:53Yeah, at the second half of A&M, you played really well.
06:5617, Caden Proctor, Bama tackle to the Lions.
07:00The Vikings take Dylan Thienemann, Oregon safety at 18.
07:06At 19, McNeil Warren, safety from Toledo.
07:10How about that?
07:10Back-to-back safeties.
07:12Yeah, I don't love him.
07:13And then at 20, the Dallas Cowboys take C.J. Allen, Georgia linebacker.
07:21Bobby's head nodded negatively.
07:24Let me get the write-up.
07:26It'd be wise for the Cowboys to double-dip on defense.
07:28They gave up six-point whatever.
07:30We already know that, Mel.
07:31Allen can play all three downs as he can drop in coverage,
07:35run down ball carriers, and even blitz.
07:37He had 97 tackles last season for the Bulldogs,
07:40showcasing tremendous read and react skills.
07:43I like him a lot.
07:45He's not like a top-tier athlete at linebacker,
07:49and I think there are some questions maybe for some teams.
07:53I don't know if Dallas would be included in this,
07:54but I think there's just some questions for people
07:57about some of his long-term health with a knee.
08:02And so, again, that'd be two guys you're getting
08:07who maybe have questions about their knees on defense.
08:10And I thought we weren't doing that anymore.
08:12The only thing that makes me feel good about this,
08:14because Kuyper has nailed a couple of these picks before,
08:16is that Kuyper has not just stuck with these picks.
08:19This is like he's changed them a few different times.
08:21Oh, man.
08:22So that makes me feel a little bit better about it.
08:23But, yeah, that would be unfortunate.
08:26That's what I was going to ask.
08:28Let's say the next two months, because he does one a week, right?
08:32No, no, no.
08:33He does one a month, maybe.
08:35Oh, okay.
08:35Yeah.
08:36Look, Allen at 20, that's good value to me.
08:38I think he's a good player.
08:39It's just if there's questions that...
08:40Jermon McCoy is a good player.
08:42If there's questions about both of them getting hurt,
08:45I don't think I want to mess with that.
08:47But if the next one he throws out there,
08:49because he'll throw another one out there before the draft,
08:51has these same two guys...
08:53Yeah, if this becomes his norm, that'll be a little unsettling.
08:59Yesterday, we were positive that another mock
09:03had a lot of offensive players taken.
09:05We were a little bit more pessimistic,
09:08talking about the needs versus the way it would actually play out.
09:13So, Brugler, this is February 11th, all right?
09:17His top 100 broken down by position.
09:21There were 17 wide receivers.
09:24There were 16 edges.
09:27There were 13 corners.
09:29And again, we want more offensive players,
09:32at least for the first round.
09:33There's nine defensive tackles.
09:36Linebacker and offensive tackle both had seven amongst his top 100.
09:42Guard and...
09:44What is SAF?
09:46Safety.
09:46Oh, jeez.
09:47What the hell?
09:49Why not just do SF, Dane?
09:51What the heck?
09:51Guard and safety at five.
09:53Tight end three.
09:55Quarterback and running back two.
09:58So, just keep that in mind.
10:01The strongest position groups, at least for round one,
10:04as it applies to the Cowboys, at 12 and 20.
10:07Wide receiver and edge leading the way in double digits.
10:11Yeah, and I mean, it'd be...
10:13The problem is wide receiver is so deep,
10:16and yet, like what, we just ran through that mock,
10:18and ahead of you, there was one.
10:20Yeah.
10:21One came off the...
10:22I just...
10:23I wish Makai Lemon could have just said,
10:25yes, sir, on a couple things.
10:27Instead of, like, I'm like, you know, I just think...
10:30Like, it would be so much better if we could get him in the top 10.
10:32He was the Ramsey.
10:33Yeah, like, why did you have to go...
10:35Just, like, get through 15 minutes of...
10:38What are you referring to?
10:39Talking about the Makai Lemon,
10:41him being weird at the combine, like we had talked about.
10:43Well, that was at the podium.
10:44Did you hear even more things?
10:45Yeah, no.
10:46In the interviews?
10:47Yeah, people said he was weird in the interviews.
10:48People said he was, like, during the workouts,
10:50he just was not following instruction very clearly, and so...
10:55Yeah, I saw him run.
10:56Apparently, he didn't listen to the instruction
10:58on, like, how hard to go during a go route.
11:01Yeah, they said to run, like, 75% speed,
11:04and I think he ran about as fast as probably I could
11:07if I was jogging.
11:09Like, I mean, it was that he did not look like
11:11he was interested in giving much effort.
11:13So, that's concerning to admit that, like,
11:16if he would have been...
11:16Because people really like him.
11:17They think he's a really talented player.
11:20And Broadus, I think, had asked some people
11:21around the league about him.
11:22They were told, like, eh, he doesn't bug me.
11:24Like, he's a good player.
11:25And so, maybe somebody likes him ahead of you,
11:28but it'd be really nice if you could get Tate
11:30and Lemon and Tyson ahead of you.
11:33It's just...
11:33I get it.
11:34I think a lot of the interviews are stupid
11:36a lot of times, and we go too much.
11:39But could you imagine showing up to a job interview
11:42and taking an approach, like, I don't care.
11:44Like, these guys, some of these guys do.
11:46Like, they're showing up in sweatpants
11:47and, you know, 30 minutes late about a phone call.
11:51Yeah, I just...
11:52Like, it's just like, what?
11:52What are you doing?
11:53I will say this.
11:54I'm sure there have been some.
11:55I'm not recalling them off the top of my head.
11:58I know you say you think the interview process is dumb.
12:00I don't remember a whole bunch of guys
12:03just being awful interviews at the Combine
12:05or you hearing about, like, man, this is not good
12:07and it ending up working out for them in the NFL.
12:11Like, pretty consistently...
12:13Like, there have been some exceptions,
12:14but pretty consistently it doesn't work out.
