00:09I can't believe this. I cannot believe I'm here.
00:17I'm absolutely a hustler. I try every day to hustle harder than the day before.
00:23I still don't even think that it's fully hit me yet that I'm in New York.
00:28When my dad dropped me off at the airport, his eyes started tearing up and he said,
00:33remember to say yes ma'am and yes sir and to win, damn it.
00:40Fashion was actually not what I first started out doing.
00:42I actually studied herpetology at Berkeley.
00:46I thought, I don't know that I can fully commit to being bit every day for the rest of my
00:49life,
00:49which is funny that I moved into fashion because it's kind of a similar thing.
00:52It's just like not actual blood, but people are kind of cutthroat.
00:55The point of me being here as far as I'm concerned is to show off my work.
00:58I'm going to do what I want to do.
01:00My mother has said that she hasn't been able to tell me what to do since I was nine years
01:03old.
01:05This is so nice.
01:07I feel really special walking into this room because I didn't want to touch nothing look so good.
01:12Hi. Hey, how you doing?
01:13Good. How are you?
01:14I'm Tasha. I'm Ian. Nice to meet you.
01:16Nice to meet you.
01:17We're the first ones, right?
01:18Yes. My hometown, Triport, Louisiana, the girls with all overdone makeup and skin-tight dresses, and that is not me.
01:26I design for the girls that don't like to wear heels, the tomboys, the girls that like to stay relaxed
01:32but look chic.
01:34A lot of people have told me that you don't seem like the type to be the designer, and I
01:38never knew that a designer had a look.
01:39Hey. Hey, guys.
01:41I was going to wear that same outfit.
01:43So what kind of stuff do you do?
01:45I make clothes and art.
01:48My aesthetic is humorous, playful, but also with like a little bit of like a seriousness to it.
01:54There's always like some twist.
01:55I just finished up school, so I just graduated.
01:58I grew up partially Mormon.
01:59I didn't have a lot of exposure to internet.
02:01My ex-stepdad would lock the computer away.
02:03But I'm smart.
02:05I think I'm smart.
02:07Right?
02:09I've been designing for almost 10 years.
02:13At the beginning, I wanted to go to architecture school, but I wanted to see results faster.
02:20Hey, I'm Tasha.
02:21I was a designer in Venezuela, back home in Caracas.
02:25But political situation, it's kind of difficult to succeed as a fashion designer there.
02:29It must be so crazy.
02:31There's like so much drama going on over there.
02:33Well, it's been difficult.
02:34Well, welcome.
02:35I'm happy you're here.
02:36Yes.
02:37How badly do I want to do in this competition?
02:39I want to do so well.
02:42I want to do well for other women that can relate to starting another career at my age.
02:48This is my chance to reinvent myself.
02:52And I don't want to blow it.
02:53I got, oh , Natalya.
02:56Corey.
02:56Ah.
02:57What's going on, girl?
02:59I'm freaking out because I know Corey because I went to school with him.
03:02We did shows together.
03:03We've competed together.
03:05And I beat him.
03:06Me and Natalya do have a little rivalry, so it's going to be really interesting.
03:11See what happens when you come in last?
03:13I know, right?
03:14There's no more champagne glasses.
03:15I had to use a mug.
03:18Shut up.
03:20Hi.
03:21Hi, guys.
03:23Hi.
03:24Hi.
03:24Mr. Gunn and Mrs. Harry Walter is done.
03:27Hi, everyone.
03:28Hi.
03:29Welcome.
03:30I want to welcome all of you to season 15 of Project Runway.
03:35Unbelievable.
03:37We've still got it.
03:39The magic.
03:40We do.
03:41We have a lot of surprises for you this season.
03:43Uh-oh.
03:44Uh-oh.
03:44And the first of which is right now.
03:47This is it.
03:48Your first challenge is starting immediately.
03:53Oh.
03:53My.
03:54God.
03:55Wow.
03:56I've had two glasses of champagne and I'm like, well, thank God I put that
03:59second glass down.
04:01We want you to take the spirit, the aura, and the vibe of this fabulous launch party
04:07and incorporate those elements into your first look.
04:11I'm pretty excited.
04:12Like, to make a cocktail dress is fun.
04:14Like, yes.
04:14Like, I can do this.
04:16We actually want you to take a little bit more than just the spirit.
04:23Whatever we decorate at this beautiful party with are your materials.
04:31Oh, .
04:32So you grab whatever you can.
04:36If it's not nailed down, it's yours.
04:38Now?
04:38Not yet.
04:39You have exactly five minutes.
04:42Are you ready?
04:43Yes!
04:43Yes!
04:44On your mark, let's go!
04:48Yikes.
04:49I want to grab the flowers.
04:54Oh, my God.
04:56My jeans came up the side of the corner and snatches them out of my hand.
05:00You're not going to take all of the flowers.
05:01I want to use some, too.
05:04My bad.
05:05I'm glad you're laughing.
05:07Oh, my God.
05:07Oh, my.
05:08I just go straight towards the yellow wigs and just went crazy with yellow.
05:1330 seconds.
05:14Oh, my God!
05:18Oh, no!
05:19Five, four, three, two, one.
05:23Let go.
05:24Three.
05:25Woo!
05:25You guys rocked it.
05:27I am sending you to the work room to get settled in, and I will join you very soon.
05:33I'll see you on the runway.
05:35Yes.
05:35Bye, everybody.
05:36Head off to the work room.
05:38Oh, man.
05:39I've probably been grabbing them, so hopefully this will work.
05:43My God.
05:44They're really trashed this place.
05:46I think we deserve a drink now.
05:47Are there any glasses?
05:49Mmm.
05:49There are no glasses, but there are two bottles.
05:52One for you, one for me.
05:56Wow!
05:58Cheers, Heidi, to season 15.
06:04Mmm.
06:06That's nice, and it cuts out the middle man.
06:09I like it.
06:11Oh, my gosh.
06:13Okay.
06:14Ooh.
06:15We got my ad.
06:17Right here!
06:18Whoa.
06:19I'm here.
06:20I'm in the work room.
06:21This is official.
06:23Another surreal moment.
06:24It's something I have seen on TV for so long, and now it's me standing there.
06:29This is awesome.
06:30It is.
06:30This is great.
06:31Yeah.
06:32Hello.
06:33Hi.
06:34Hi, Tam.
06:35Welcome to your fabulous work room.
06:37Do you like it?
06:38Yes.
06:39Good.
06:39Speaking of fabulous, we have the Just Fab Accessories wall for your use this entire
06:44season.
06:45We have the Brothers Sewing Room, which is behind this wall.
06:48Work hard and have fun with this challenge, okay?
06:51And I will see you a little later.
06:58What is this?
06:59The candy wrappers?
07:00Yeah.
07:00Oh, the taffy?
07:01Yeah.
07:03So, there's this theory that from an evolutionary standpoint, that humans are drawn towards
07:08shiny objects because of their constant search for water.
07:12I think, like anybody, I'm attracted to glitter.
07:15I'd love to make bell-bottom pants covered in glitter.
07:21Growing up in Baton Rouge is not a fashionable place.
07:25All I knew of fashion was my mom would take us to Mervyn's.
07:30But now, fashion is my art, my ultimate way of expressing who I am as a person.
07:38As an artist, expression is the priority.
07:51Perfect.
07:52Oh, this is so cute.
07:53I know, aren't they cute?
07:54I'm going to use some of them on the dress, for sure.
07:56I decided on a shift.
07:57The screens are going to be like my basis.
08:00It's going to be simple.
08:02I mean, it is.
08:03I never finished my degree.
08:05School wasn't for me, basically.
08:06So, I'm essentially self-taught.
08:08I don't make wearable art.
08:10I make clothes that you should be able to wear.
08:11It's not that I can't make it.
08:13I just don't like to do it.
08:23I'm going towards some type of low crotch pants, probably elongated type of top.
08:28So, how y'all feeling so far?
08:31I don't feel good.
08:33You don't?
08:34No.
08:35Pray it off.
08:35I am.
08:36Pray it off.
08:37Yeah, you're trying to be creative, but at the same time, you think about, I don't want
08:40to go home with the first challenge.
08:42Thank you, Ms. Kimber.
08:45Hi.
08:46Hello.
08:47Hi, Tim.
08:47Hello.
08:48Hi, Tim.
08:49Hi, Tim.
08:49So, it's our first critique session.
08:51How exciting.
08:52Yay!
08:52Is everyone feeling ready?
08:53Yeah.
08:54Great.
08:54I can't wait.
08:55I definitely don't want to let Tim gun down.
08:57I'd be ashamed if I were that person.
09:01Rick.
09:01Hello.
09:02Hi, Tim.
09:02I'm eager to hear everything about this.
09:04I found these big bowls of glitter, and I wanted to make a fun, fitted, and a little
09:10flare at the bottom, pant.
09:12How is the glitter adhered?
09:14Uh, various cornucopia glues.
09:17It just wants to go to the floor or on me.
09:19So you are going to put more on.
09:21Yes.
09:22Yes.
09:22Good.
09:23Quite frankly, it's just a real wow factor.
09:25Carry on, Rick.
09:26I will.
09:27I will.
09:29Going into Tim's critique, I'm not nervous at all.
09:31Part of being an artist is, like, getting crit.
09:33Ian.
09:34Hi, Tim.
09:35You don't take it personally.
09:36While I respect your aesthetic, it seems very basic.
09:40I mean, honestly, this is, like, a lot of work.
09:43I would just consider doing something that makes it look more fully integrated into the
09:48garment, as opposed to something that's velcroed on we could just take off.
09:53Aesthetically, I do not do avant-garde, like, at all.
09:56So it would be difficult for me to be true to myself as a designer, just, like, putting
09:59stuff on there for the sake of putting it on there.
10:01I want you to be who you are.
10:02It's just, if you think about expanding this into more volume.
10:08I hate volume.
10:11I respect Tim 100%, but I don't really think I'm going to change much.
10:15Like, at all.
10:16I don't like to do over the top.
10:18Tim says Ian's outfit is missing flair.
10:22Ding, ding, ding.
10:23Change your outfit, Ian.
10:24So I was thinking I could create a skirt out of this, but I just don't want the judges
10:30to be like, oh, it's the Tin Man's wife.
10:32It's a very over-the-top look.
10:34You made a commitment to this.
10:36Own the bride of Tin Man.
10:38Okay.
10:39This is stunning.
10:41I love how you used these plates.
10:43In fact, I wouldn't even know what they were, which is fantastic.
10:46Awesome.
10:47Alex.
10:48Hi, Tim.
10:48So talk to me.
10:49I'm kind of liking the angular shapes on them.
10:52It's extremely elegant.
10:53And I like how you've used the polka dot.
10:55And I like the overall silhouette.
10:58And I like the surprise element.
11:00Okay.
11:01How are you doing?
11:02What I want to do is kind of like this off the shoulder.
11:04And it will kind of look like a fur coat.
11:07So what's happening down below?
11:09I've been, like, cutting the tracks to be, like, fringe.
11:12And then I used the gumballs and I cut them in half.
11:14And then I was using these beads.
11:18All right.
11:20Thanks.
11:21Talk to me.
11:22I got to work with the lanterns.
11:24Then I discovered they were capable of doing very interesting shape.
11:29Yes.
11:30And started playing with the shapes.
11:32Barry's look is just insane.
11:35I love it.
11:36I'm eager to see how this continues to evolve.
11:39Holy crap.
11:40This is who I'm competing against.
11:42The beads, you're using them as a necklace.
11:45It's the unconventional materials challenge.
11:47And then you've used it very conventionally.
11:49If I were a judge, I might put you in the bottom.
11:52I have a very positive response to how organic this is.
11:56Okay.
11:57I just think this shoulder treatment, I don't know that you want to go for that Madonna, Galliano moment.
12:04How are you?
12:05Hey.
12:06I'm getting a little Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Banksy.
12:10I'm now a painter.
12:12Your average Picasso.
12:14It's now become a fine arts painting project.
12:18Right.
12:18Have you just given lip service to unconventional materials?
12:22I did manage to grab some boas, and I was going to create a fur, but it's too costumed, like
12:29a fur shrug.
12:29At least you're introducing another material.
12:32Right.
12:33I'll make it work.
12:34You have to.
12:35I have to.
12:35All right, designers.
12:36I'm very excited about the work that you're doing, and for most of you, you have a lot of work
12:41to do.
12:41You have two hours remaining.
12:44Your models will be in in one hour.
12:52Look at that.
12:55Erin has nothing up on the dress form.
12:57She's over in the corner just messing around with trinkets.
13:01Eating pixie sticks.
13:02If Erin gets the wrong girl, it could be a problem.
13:04If I got a super pale red head, and I had to put yellow on her, I would die.
13:13All right.
13:15Yeah, you got blue, girl.
13:18Sorry.
13:21There you go.
13:22I grabbed a rug at the party, and I'm using that to make my design.
13:25I'm feeling much better, but not great.
13:29I know that I only have, like, a skirt made, and there's no top, but I'm feeling very confident that
13:35I'm going to get everything I need to get done.
13:37All right.
13:38Bye.
13:39Bye.
13:41Okay, in 40 minutes, I can re-sew this entire thing.
13:44If I can just knock this top out in one hour, I will be fine.
13:49If this top takes me three hours, I'm triple .
13:52Erin, I can't wait to see your look.
13:55I think people are worried about whether or not I'm going to be done on time, but I think a
13:59lot, and then I act.
14:01Designers, you don't have to go home, but you have to get the hell out of here.
14:05Time to go.
14:06We're done.
14:07Yay!
14:08Yay!
14:17I'm done.
14:18I'm so happy I'm done.
14:19I have to do some sewing still.
14:21We are going to be the four people that are going to make it to the top, so.
14:24Absolutely.
14:25I already know that.
14:27I really love my look, but you never know.
14:29It's the first time we're going to be facing the judges, so it could be very good or very bad.
14:36I'm really, really nervous.
14:38I'm really scared.
14:38I cannot go home on the first episode.
14:42If they're having nothing, they'll just tell me to pieces.
14:45That ain't a dream of mine.
14:52Whoa!
14:54Time to work, everybody.
14:56I have tunnel vision.
14:58It's like you're drunk on the way home, and you're trying to get your key in the door, and you're
15:01just trying to get there.
15:01That's what it feels like.
15:02All I can see is that runway at the end.
15:04Good morning, everyone.
15:06Good morning.
15:07Good morning.
15:08All right.
15:08It's our first runway.
15:10How exciting is this?
15:11Yay!
15:13You will have two hours to send your models to the Mary Kay Color Design Studio and to the Sally
15:19Beauty Studio.
15:21All right?
15:21Use the Just Fab accessories wall very thoughtfully.
15:26Okay?
15:29Bye, Tim.
15:32Erin, she's still gluing gumballs on, and we don't have that much time left.
15:40Hi.
15:42Hey, girl.
15:44Sorry, I'm, like, so short.
15:45I need, like, a step stool.
15:47I don't even know if we even have to lace it up.
15:50You're into it?
15:51Yes.
15:52It looks finished.
15:53I would not change anything.
15:56You know, it's not Tim's dress, it's mine.
16:02So you designed for a hip girl, huh?
16:04Mm-hmm.
16:05We have a collection Runway Bold.
16:07Yeah.
16:07Those colors are nice.
16:08That has all these sort of colors.
16:09Oh, that's beautiful.
16:11This looks so amazing on.
16:14It's called a gel semi-mat.
16:16I'll have you put it on.
16:17Look at that.
16:18Yeah, I like that.
16:19I want deep, fuchsia, bright lips.
16:21Uh-huh, uh-huh.
16:22And then I would like the inside of the eye to look yellow if you have it, and then fade
16:25out into, like, the same fuchsia.
16:27Okay.
16:27We feel you.
16:32I would like her to have cotton candy hair, almost cloth-like.
16:37Maybe collapse down through the center so she gets kind of an expansion this way?
16:42Yes.
16:42The outfit's kind of crazy, so I want to go very simple with the hair.
16:46Like a middle part, and then just like a nice, simple bun in the back.
16:49Cool.
16:49Less is more.
16:50So I was thinking some sort of braid, maybe along the line right here.
16:57Okay.
16:57Like sort of a crown.
16:58We got it.
17:00I'm panicking.
17:01My heart is pounding.
17:03I'm hot.
17:03I'm cold.
17:04I'm nervous.
17:05Everyone's, like, stressed out.
17:12Designers, in ten minutes, you and your models and I are going down to the runway, all right?
17:20Ten minutes, everyone.
17:21Rick, he's running around like a crazy man without a head on.
17:31And then turn towards me.
17:32Designers and models, we are going down to the runway for our first runway show.
17:38How exciting.
17:40All right, let's go, go, go.
17:43It's the point of no return at this point.
17:46All right, things are looking good.
17:48I made it.
17:49As long as I made it, I'm so happy.
17:57Hi, guys.
18:01Wow.
18:02I like this excitement already.
18:05Welcome to the runway.
18:06As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
18:10There are 16 of you here, and after tonight, there will be 15.
18:13Now, for the big prize.
18:16The winner of Project Runway will receive $100,000 to launch their line, a year's supply of Sally Beauty products,
18:24along with $25,000 cash, travel and hotel accommodations to inspiring destinations around the world from best Western hotels and
18:32resorts, and new Lexus IS.
18:36From Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows, and professional makeup artist services for
18:44their debut show.
18:45A complete sewing and crafting studio from Brother Sewing and Embroidery, and the winning designer and model will receive a
18:53fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
18:55All right, let's say hello to our judges.
18:57First, we have creative director for Brooks Brothers Women and Fashion Designer, Zach Posen.
19:02Hi, designers.
19:04Creative director for Mary Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.
19:08Awesome.
19:10And today's show co-anchor and Project Runway superfan.
19:14It's true.
19:15And expectant mother, Savannah Guthrie.
19:18Welcome.
19:21Also, we love having Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
19:25And as you know, he is your mentor and will not be judging your looks.
19:29We also have an anonymous runway show.
19:31No favorites here.
19:32Okay, let's start the show.
19:40I think my model looks dope, sexy, confident.
19:45It's killing it.
19:46I'm like, yeah, I'm making an impression.
20:03I took backpacks and boas and created a three-piece garment.
20:10And it's all hand-painted.
20:12That looks like Picasso.
20:13It's cute.
20:27The light hits it.
20:28I think it is beautiful.
20:30I think it communicates when I want it to communicate.
20:32This is what the judges sort of want to see.
20:34They want to see variety.
20:35They want to see different points of views.
20:37I'm feeling very good about my piece in relation to everybody else's piece.
20:44I created a textile out of placemats and it just looks amazing.
20:54It has a great runway effect and the judges seem to enjoy it.
20:57So, I'm happy.
21:04I feel like my garment definitely represents me as a designer.
21:08I do take a lot of risks and I hope that they keep me here so that I can give
21:12them 15 of the riskiest garments I've ever seen in Project Runway history.
21:15You did good, Dex.
21:23I feel extremely excited and I love the way that she walks.
21:28She is definitely working the runway.
21:43It's beautiful.
21:45It's got just enough sparkle.
21:46I mean, texturally, it's like very strong.
21:51I think the palette is amazing.
21:54Like, I could base a collection off of that dress.
22:04I'm loving the way she's walking out, the attitude she's giving.
22:06She's really working this outfit.
22:08She's working the little handbag that I made.
22:12She's really selling the type of girl that I designed for.
22:24I'm feeling so proud.
22:26Yellow is definitely one of those colors that's a hit or a miss color.
22:29And I'm feeling like I'm sending something bold down the runway.
22:38I want to eat your straps.
22:46Wow.
22:47She looks beautiful.
22:48She looks edgy.
22:49She looks innocent.
22:51Just fabulous.
22:56It looks really good.
23:08I'm speechless.
23:10She's gorgeous.
23:12She's killing it.
23:15This explains everything about me from head to toe.
23:31So, yeah.
23:32It's scary.
23:33I didn't use much color.
23:34And the top that I use is close to Muslim.
23:36So, at this point, I'm just praying that I make it through the next round.
23:50I'm happy with my look.
23:51It looks cool.
23:52It looks crazy.
23:53It looks unconventional.
23:57This is either going to be on the bottom or on the top because I went all out for it.
24:08I'm hoping the judges see that I took the plates and cut them at angles so that it kind of
24:14reads as petals towards the flowers that are incorporated in the top piece because I love it.
24:29I really feel that my design represents me as a designer.
24:36It is what I wanted to create.
24:39It's quite an amazing experience.
24:49The model turns a corner and I about wet my basement because it looked stunning and my model was just
24:55shining.
24:57I'm extremely happy with what I put forward.
25:08I have to say this was a very, very exciting runway show.
25:12I mean, this was the best beginning that I've had in the five years that I've been on the show.
25:16And I love that we chose this unconventional challenge to start them off and really get their creative juices flowing.
25:22Okay, designers, we have just learned which designer created which look.
25:26If I call your name, please step forward.
25:29Robbery.
25:31Dexter.
25:33Tasha.
25:35Erin.
25:37Ian.
25:39Brick.
25:41If I have not called your name, congratulations, your scores have qualified you to move on to the next round.
25:47You can leave the runway.
25:53Oh my gosh.
25:56Alrighty.
25:57We did it.
25:57Yeah.
25:58I mean, at the top or at the bottom.
26:00I'm fine.
26:00I have to say this is going to be one top season.
26:04The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
26:08One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
26:16All right.
26:17I would like to start with you, Tasha.
26:19Tell us how this look represents you as a designer and about the materials that you used.
26:24I'm a designer for 16th Street, loud, colorful, the urban girl.
26:29And for the bag, I used the director's chair.
26:33Uh-huh.
26:33I used Moods reusable bags.
26:36I used Twizzlers, a pillowcase, and backpacks that we had in the room as well.
26:42I have to say I love this look.
26:43I see a girl like this walking down the street right now and I would say, wow, she looks really
26:48cool.
26:48She just looks like an urban girl that you would see today.
26:52Great job.
26:54The look was very effective.
26:58Her clothes say I've got attitude.
26:59The shape of the pants, the proportion.
27:03This is you.
27:04Thank you so much.
27:05My favorite thing is that you made a bag with Tim and Heidi's names on it.
27:10I think the silhouette is really cool and you pulled it off.
27:13For us regular women, that's a tough one to wear, but she looks gorgeous.
27:18Mission accomplished.
27:19You did it.
27:19Thank you all so much.
27:20Rick, tell us about the materials that you used.
27:23So I ended up finding these big tubs of glitter.
27:27I started off and drafted a pant with a flare leg and I luckily collected all of these hats.
27:34Ah, that's what that is.
27:36So I wanted something that was structured and to show what I can do as a tailor.
27:41I have to tell you, she looks mismatched to me.
27:44On top, she looks very futuristic.
27:46Yeah.
27:47And the bottom kind of looks retro disco.
27:50I mean, it's like Lady Gaga on top, ABBA on the bottom.
27:53She's got many personalities.
27:55Got a lot.
27:55Heidi.
27:56And Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farms.
27:57In the hills.
27:58Totally.
27:59Meets Star Wars, meets Studio 54.
28:01Erin, tell us about your look and who you are as a designer.
28:04So I love fun and just energy in my work.
28:08No.
28:09And I, I, um, and this is actually, um, the wig with like the netting in it.
28:16And these are gumballs.
28:18And then this is more of the tracks that I just like trimmed to like look like fringe.
28:23Wow.
28:24This to me is a stand out look.
28:27I love the color.
28:28It shows me who you are.
28:29It shows me that you're about fun, but also you have great ideas and you make it slick
28:35and perfect looking.
28:37Just a complete explosion of color walking down the runway.
28:41I love that halter top.
28:43I think it's so pretty.
28:44It's so universally flattering.
28:47I think it looks beautiful.
28:50Dexter.
28:51Hi.
28:52Tell us about the materials that you used.
28:54I used this, um, rug I found.
28:57Um, and then these are different pillows that I broke apart and sewed together into different
29:02patterns.
29:03I kind of wanted to have that Alaskan mountain tribe, like, um, girls coming of age party,
29:08but I wanted to like keep it current with more of like a circle skirt.
29:12And, um, I took little pieces of it and put it on the shoes because I thought the pop
29:15of color would really like help bring it all together.
29:17I definitely got Alaskan poodle.
29:21You know, it had that Inuit tribe references and I'm happy that you had a story behind it.
29:27I like how you played with the pattern and it was effective when it went down the runway,
29:32but I think you can go even further.
29:35Good job.
29:37It was a runway piece.
29:39It had this incredible volume, which is really happening in fashion quite a lot.
29:46You used the rug and made it have volume and movement.
29:50It looks tribal and very chic.
29:54And then I love your little details.
29:56I love the fact that you put those bracelets into her ankle.
29:59I like this very much.
30:02Ian, tell us what materials you used for your look.
30:05I built a shift piece basically and used everything that I did to kind of try and give something that
30:13doesn't move movement.
30:14What I grabbed were those big screens, the printed photographs that were hanging up on the wall.
30:20I grabbed a couple of pillows that had like tassel detail, which I really like.
30:24It's a little like my little pony scheme, which is like kind of my thing.
30:27And I grabbed all of the Polaroids.
30:29I actually like really love it.
30:30I think she looks fantastic.
30:33I did not love this dress.
30:35You just said it yourself.
30:37It's a basic shift dress.
30:39There's no magic for me in this dress.
30:42You didn't create something with the Polaroids.
30:44Like they look like boom boom, there's two Polaroids glued on.
30:48It's such a great challenge.
30:49The sky's the limit.
30:50You could go nuts with this and really show us something that sings and dances.
30:55And this to me doesn't really have any of that.
30:58I feel like you didn't use this opportunity.
31:01It was a risk going minimal just because, I mean, that is sort of true to who I am.
31:06I do not really work with a lot of volume because I don't like it, not because I can't.
31:11It just really fell short for me.
31:13And it also doesn't look that neat.
31:16You know, on the back, when can she turn the model?
31:19You know, everything's symmetrical.
31:21But from her waist down, they start, you know, to kind of shift to the side.
31:25I actually thought the texture was very interesting.
31:28I thought those icy colors that you chose were very beautiful.
31:35Unfortunately, it doesn't feel like you were creative enough.
31:39I feel like you should have pushed yourself a little more.
31:42Roberi, tell us about your look.
31:44I wanted to work with the lanterns because I really felt the material were very light.
31:51So, for me, it was very interesting to twist the shapes, swirl forms, very organic.
31:57And the fantasy of creating something cloud-like started taking shapes inspired by just movements in the clouds and sky.
32:08I have to say, when this came around the corner, I kind of gasped, but not in a good way.
32:13I don't know. I didn't like the colors together.
32:16I thought it was too short when she walked out.
32:19I didn't even really respond to it as fashion.
32:24I have seen this dress, and I've seen it in Project Runway many times with many different versions.
32:32There is no balance. It's all, like, up there.
32:35I know that you two didn't like it so much, but I actually really love this dress.
32:39We have seen pretty much everything already, and everything gets reinvented again, and everyone uses something from something else.
32:46This, though, we have not seen before.
32:48And it is the way you interlocked them that created this beautiful sculpture.
32:54I actually love the colors together.
32:55I love the silver, the white, the gold, and the blue.
32:59I also don't mind that it is short.
33:00Will you turn around? Can I see the back one more time?
33:03Let's do a little...
33:04I think it is really pretty.
33:05I mean, it does have some poetry to it.
33:07The way it just weaves and curls, it leaves me wanting to see more of what you can do.
33:13I thought it was incredibly sensitive.
33:15I think it's actually beautifully done.
33:19Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
33:20We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back.
33:30Hello, judges.
33:31Hi, Tim.
33:32What a wonderful kickoff challenge.
33:33Yes.
33:34I know.
33:34Hello, ladies.
33:35We couldn't have a better beginning.
33:37Alrighty.
33:38Okay, we have Kiki wearing Tasha.
33:40They look better on the runway than up close.
33:43It's very cool.
33:44You know, because they're just really hard to sew.
33:46Tim, are these plastic...
33:48They're mood bags.
33:49They're mood bags that she cut up.
33:50Wow.
33:51And these are Twizzlers.
33:52Yes.
33:53The best thing is the vibe.
33:54The attitude.
33:56Including the girl with the bag.
33:58How great.
33:59How fun.
33:59I need that bag.
34:01Director's chairs.
34:02My Tim and Heidi bag.
34:04Yeah.
34:07And we have Sharika wearing Erin.
34:11Wow.
34:11Unbelievable.
34:12This is what I love.
34:14The mesh that she did right here.
34:16The wig mesh.
34:17I mean, how do you even cut those gumballs in half?
34:20Without cracking them.
34:21Oh, no.
34:22She didn't just use it as crazy down here again.
34:24You know, she made it like so...
34:26It's balanced.
34:27It's balanced.
34:30And we have Stacy wearing Dexter.
34:33This, too, I thought was very cool.
34:36I think this guy has good taste.
34:38Down to the little detail of the bracelet.
34:40And he did the shoe.
34:43The whole styling.
34:44He's got taste.
34:46That's what I'm saying.
34:46For sure.
34:47I loved it.
34:48I loved it, too.
34:51Coming up, Pella's wearing Robbery.
34:56I've seen this dress, Tim Gunn.
34:58But out of the paper lanterns?
35:00This back is really, really good.
35:03It has poetry.
35:04It is beautiful.
35:06It looks like hair.
35:07I'm impressed.
35:08And I just want to underscore how incredibly complex this was to engineer correctly.
35:16And we have Anna wearing brick.
35:18Dancing queen.
35:19Oy vey.
35:20I mean, really, the only cool thing about this whole thing is really the shoulders.
35:26That was really cool and new.
35:27I mean, you can say the pants fit nice on the booty.
35:30I mean, I guess he can tailor a nice pair of pants.
35:33But then, how can he not see that they're too short?
35:35It could have been a mistake.
35:36That's not even what worries me.
35:38It's the overall styling.
35:41It's very disjointed.
35:43Mixed match.
35:43So is this just muslin and then just the confetti on?
35:45Yeah, he just glued confetti on.
35:47I mean, it's actually for me and, you know, I don't know, maybe the sparkly person in me.
35:51I kind of, there's something fun in there.
35:53I don't like the sparkles.
35:53I agree with you.
35:53I don't like the sparkles.
35:54I don't like the sparkles.
35:55There's a spirit.
35:59And we have Priscilla wearing Ian.
36:02I'm sad about this.
36:03So he went into a lot about, like, all the work that he did in here.
36:07So how did he do this?
36:09Was that the fringe around one of the pillows?
36:10I'm not altogether certain where they came from.
36:13To me, this looks like you can buy this on a roll-up mood.
36:16But you have to respect a designer that has a minimalist stance.
36:21I think he has good taste.
36:25Thank you very much, judges.
36:27Anna and Kiki.
36:30Thank you all.
36:32Really today, it's between Dexter and Aaron.
36:35Aaron was in a way more elegant.
36:37There was such balance in her work.
36:40Beautiful.
36:40Dexter, in a way, has more of a cooler vibe to it.
36:44He had a vision.
36:45It was effective.
36:46Yeah, we have not seen anything like this.
36:49He's very fashion-forward.
36:51Let's talk about the designers that we did not like.
36:53Brick was the worst.
36:55To me, Bricks was more creative than Ian's.
36:58To me, Ian's was more sophisticated than Bricks.
37:01Creative versus sophistication.
37:03That's where we are coming to here.
37:05Okay, so we've made our decision.
37:14Designers, one of you will be named the winner.
37:17And one of you will be out.
37:20Aaron.
37:25Congratulations, you are the winner of the first challenge.
37:29Thanks, guys.
37:32Are you excited?
37:33It's a really good feeling, yeah.
37:36And we all can't wait to see what you're going to do next.
37:39Congratulations, you can leave the runway.
37:42It is so wild being the first winner.
37:45There is no better way to start the season.
37:47She did it really fast.
37:48And then she just made it.
37:49What happened?
37:50Are you the winner?
37:51Like, I was just like...
37:53Cool.
37:59Dexter, you're in.
38:00You can leave the runway.
38:01Thank you guys so much.
38:05Tasha, you did a great job.
38:07You're in.
38:08You can leave the runway.
38:09Thank you all so much.
38:21Ian.
38:27Your dress was not our favourite.
38:30The final look was uninspiring and underwhelming.
38:35Rick.
38:37There was a really big disadvantage.
38:40disconnect to your look.
38:42It just did not come together.
38:49Brick.
38:53You're in.
38:56You can leave the runway.
38:58Thank y'all.
39:01Sorry, buddy.
39:06Ian, I'm sorry, that means you're out.
39:08It must be so hard being the first one.
39:10Sorry, I like the dress, so.
39:15We wish you the best of luck.
39:17Auf Wiedersehen.
39:18Mm-hmm.
39:20I love the dress.
39:23I, like, can't say it enough.
39:25The people that I met are, like, a nice concession prize, I guess.
39:30Oh, you're here.
39:31Yeah, we're here.
39:32Hey.
39:33Hey.
39:34It's all good.
39:35I loved it.
39:36So.
39:37If you're proud of it, then that's all that matters.
39:42Yeah.
39:43Yeah.
39:44Oh, I knew you don't like it.
39:46I'm really proud that I stood up for myself in front of them.
39:49I mean, it's intimidating.
39:50It really is.
39:51But I would be embarrassed of myself
39:54if I didn't stand up for myself and my words.
39:57I'm gonna give you so many people.
39:59I know.
40:03No.
40:05No.
40:06No.
40:07No.
40:16No.
40:17It was an experience.
40:18That's for sure.
40:18I don't regret it for a second.
40:24My work was beautiful.
40:26And I'll swear by that till the day I die.
40:29I'll see you next time.
40:29Bye-bye.
40:29Bye-bye.
40:29Bye-bye.
40:30Bye-bye.
40:31Bye-bye.
