00:00Good afternoon. It's a cold day out there. We've had some showers of hail and snow already today and there
00:07is more of that to come across northern areas.
00:10This is the satellite picture from this morning. You can see a string of cloud across more southern and eastern
00:15areas of England.
00:16That's the weather front from Thursday still yet to clear. Behind it though, we've got much clearer air moving in
00:22but colder air and that's what's bringing that risk of hail and snow showers,
00:26particularly to higher ground. But we have seen some snow to lower levels in the showers already this morning.
00:33Showers will continue throughout this afternoon, predominantly across northwestern areas.
00:37But I think many western areas are likely to see a shower. You might just escape most of the rain
00:43across more eastern parts of the country.
00:45But wherever you are, it is going to be feeling chilly out there. These are the highs for the day.
00:50We've got highs of 9 or 10 degrees in the south and east, but it's going to feel a few
00:54degrees colder than that with the strength of those northwesterly winds.
00:59The northwesterly winds continue into this evening. The showers will start to reduce, but we could see a spell of
01:04rain push across more central areas of England into the south and east
01:08before it does turn clearer and drier to start the weekend.
01:12So it's going to be a brighter start to the weekend, but also a chilly one.
01:16These are the lows for overnight tonight where we'll see temperatures lower than this rurally, as low as minus four
01:22in parts of Scotland, minus two in parts of Wales as well.
01:25It will need to be in shelters areas where we're likely to see a frost.
01:28But there's also a risk of ice because we will have seen quite so many showers and the ground will
01:34be wet from that.
01:35So potentially a bit of a slippery start to the day on Saturday.
01:37But I think Saturday does look like the better day of the weekend if you're planning on getting outside.
01:42Plenty of sunshine, particularly across parts of England and Wales.
01:46For Northern Ireland and Scotland, there will be further showers.
01:49These not quite so frequent and not quite so heavy.
01:52And the winds will be a touch lighter into Saturday as well.
01:56So highs of 11 or 12 degrees for parts of central England, eight or nine degrees, particularly if you're exposed
02:02to the breeze across the coast.
02:04So still quite chilly for the time of year, but the sun is starting to get a bit more strength
02:09to it.
02:09So I think we'll feel the benefit of that into Saturday afternoon.
02:13Now, the fine weather doesn't last all that long as by mothering Sunday, we've got the next spell of wet
02:18weather to move in.
02:19But before then, Saturday evening looks like a pretty settled end to the day.
02:24But this next spell of wet weather pushes in overnight on Saturday night.
02:27So a spell of rain to come for many of us through Saturday night and into Sunday morning before further
02:34cold air moves in to start next week as well.
02:37So a few changes to come.
02:39Still some wintry weather around.
