00:00Hi there. It's been a cold start to the day. Temperatures last night fell as low as minus
00:04four degrees Celsius in a few spots, but at least it's meant that it's been a sunny morning
00:09for many, particularly across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. There have been some
00:13fairly heavy showers across the very far northwest of Scotland and also in parts of Cornwall,
00:18but it's out towards the west where we need to focus our attention next. This massive
00:21cloud is in association with this frontal system and that's going to be moving in for
00:25the course of this evening and overnight. But back to this afternoon and it's a fine
00:29picture out there for many parts of England and Wales especially. Not as much sunshine as there
00:34was first thing today. The cloud has bubbled up a little bit and there may well be a very few
00:38isolated showers, but for most it will stay dry and it should feel quite a bit milder compared to
00:44yesterday with that spring-like sunshine. Most of the showers start to do across Scotland and
00:48Northern Ireland and in particular the north of Scotland where they will still have some quite
00:52blustery winds and some of the showers will be on the heavy side, so the risk of some hail and
00:56some
00:56thunder mixed in there too. But for most, as I say, lighter winds and they're feeling quite a bit
01:01milder compared to yesterday. Temperatures back up to average values for the time of year,
01:0610 to 12 degrees in the warmest spots. But through this evening we turn our attention towards the
01:12west. It will start to turn breezier across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland and actually
01:16for northwest Scotland we'll see some gales developing later this evening. So turning wet and windy
01:21as this band of rain pushes in. So further south and east we should stay largely dry and actually
01:26across many parts of England and Wales we'll see a fairly widespread frost developing through the
01:30early hours of Sunday morning. And actually in the countryside across the east and the southeast
01:34of England, where temperatures could dip down to minus one or minus two degrees Celsius.
01:39And across the west though, with the winds picking up, bringing in that milder air, temperatures
01:43will actually lift through the second half of the night. So a frost-free start to the day
01:47in the north and the west. And generally speaking, quite a windy one as well. Outbreaks of rain,
01:53some mountain snow across Scotland for a few hours before that turns back to rain.
01:58Outbreaks of rain pushing eastwards into parts of England and Wales quite erratically,
02:01but nonetheless there will be some rain for many of us as we go through the day. So if you
02:06do have
02:06outdoor plans for Mothering Sunday, make the most of the early morning sunshine across the east
02:11and the southeast of England because it will turn cloudier here. Some showery rains like to arrive
02:15through the afternoon. Following the rain, a mixture of sunny spells and scattered heavy showers,
02:20quite blustery winds as well and turning colder through the afternoon, especially across Scotland
02:25and Northern Ireland. So temperatures here down to five or six degrees Celsius in some spots by the
02:30end of the day. An increasing component of snow falling in those showers, particularly over the
02:35higher ground. Some hail and some thunder mixed in with those showers across the north and the west
02:39of the UK too. But across England and Wales, temperatures around average 10 to 12 degrees,
02:45albeit not feeling quite as pleasant as it will do out there this afternoon. The rain will tend to ease
02:51away to the east as we go through Sunday evening and then showers really packing across many parts
02:55of the UK. Some quite heavy downpours, hail and thunder mixed in across the north and the west
03:00and certainly quite a bit of snow across the higher ground. So the potential for some icy conditions as we
03:05go
03:05into the early hours of Monday morning across the north of the UK. But actually Monday isn't looking
03:10too bad in the east at least with some sunny spells. Cloud amounts will increase and there will be
03:15some rain pushing in particularly to the northwest of the UK later in the day and temperatures will be
03:20close to average. Now through the middle part of the week, high pressure will build and actually
03:25that means a lot of fine weather on offer. Temperatures are also going to be on the rise
03:29but I'll have more on that later today. I'll see you again very soon.
