00:00I did want to kind of highlight what the Browns have done so far and we'll talk about kind of
00:04Andrew Barry but I've been relatively pleased as pleased as you can be with you know it mostly
00:10just a bunch of offensive linemen getting signed right like you're gonna get more excited for if
00:15they bring a quarterback in here you'd be more excited if they brought a wide receiver in here
00:17just naturally uh those are the type of guys that you look at it's like the massive difference
00:21makers and that's I just told you I played offensive line I stared offensive line during
00:25games probably way more often than I should uh but these are massive moves obviously coming in
00:31from an area where we know the Browns needed just a complete overhaul basically from top to bottom
00:36and they bring in all between the last two days Zion Johnson bringing back Tevin Jenkins which
00:40the team's officially announced because that's the one name they can officially announce and Elton
00:45Jenkins as of the last couple of hours uh coming over from Green Bay he was released he has now
00:50been signed by the Browns and what I felt like I don't know I looked at the offensive line the
00:56free
00:57agency class and you really didn't have a lot to be excited about really across the board there
01:01weren't a ton of big names coming free wasn't like I mean outside of Tyler Linderbaum who obviously the
01:06Browns are rumored to be interested in and then he's playing for almost 10 million dollars a year more
01:11than anybody else that's playing the center position over in Vegas now I feel like Andrew Barry's done a
01:16pretty solid job at kind of filling out especially that interior over the last two days well this
01:22has gone exactly how I thought it was going to go uh you know Andrew Barry um you know said
01:29at the
01:29combine they weren't gonna be hyperactive in free agency and I wouldn't say that this is hyperactive
01:34this is active yeah okay they're probably hyperactive Titans are probably hyperactive yeah the Raiders
01:40certainly obviously you know with the money that they're throwing around granted they've got a
01:43they've got some salary cap commitments that they need to make this offseason so that's why you're
01:48seeing them spend uh the way they're spending but um you know shorn up the offensive line now they got
01:55four of the five starters which I think and we'll get into it later I think that points to what
02:00they're
02:00going to do in April uh in the first round of the draft um you replace Devin Bush hours after
02:07he uh agreed
02:09to leave uh and I thought that that was a real good job by Andrew Barry anticipating that that was
02:15in
02:15fact going to be the case and I think that he knew that a couple of weeks ago in Indianapolis
02:20that they
02:20were not going to be able to keep Devin Bush who signed who will I should say will sign has
02:25agreed
02:25to sign uh with the Chicago Bears after 4 p.m tomorrow so uh looking at what Barry has done
02:31the last couple
02:32of days uh it it it it's it's not sexy it's not going to get a lot of folks excited
02:38you're not
02:39selling a lot of PSLs for Brook Park over this it's this is a meat and potatoes offseason for the
02:45Cleveland Browns okay and uh right now I think Andrew Barry's done a real good job in that department
02:52when you look at the players that he has signed and uh they've been market contracts yeah I mean
02:58definitely hasn't overpaid I mean Zion Johnson might have been like a little rich for people that
03:03is also a guy who's 26 and I know everybody wants to jump to the PFF grades and coach I'm
03:08sure you've
03:09watched a little Zion Johnson tape so you can tell me uh but everybody wants to jump to the PFF
03:12grades
03:13and the guy was playing no matter where he was playing on the offense line last year left guard or
03:17right guard without the starting tackle on the other side of him and based on everybody that played the
03:22worst offensive line in football it's probably pretty hard to look good as an individual on PFF or
03:27probably even on tape to some degree given the offensive lineman around you know well yeah
03:31PFF for me has always been a tool it hasn't been kind of my you know it doesn't give context
03:35it
03:35doesn't tell you what the play call is and even for me watching the film I don't know the play
03:38call
03:39sometimes so you're you're kind of you're guesstimating on what your experience is but I
03:42will tell you what these three uh I get very excited about offensive line uh because as I've said
03:46before you win football up front and that's why the Browns defense was so good uh because of that front
03:51four and same with the offensive line now these guys aren't what people um I've been asked a lot of
03:55questions on like what do these guys do well I think they're really good pros if that makes
03:58uh kind of any sense what I mean by that is they're not maulers they're not Wyatt Teller where they're
04:02going to knock you off the ball but what they are is they understand what defense is doing they
04:06understand leverage they understand where to put their pads they understand what shoulder to attack
04:11with they understand where the ball carrier is going so very smart guys um you know Zion is not
04:17great in pass protection but he's inside you can help a guy inside reduce splits there's some
04:20things you can do out there uh as compared to the tackle um but you know Jenkins some you know
04:25the re-signing Jenkins got to keep him inside he's solid guard struggles out of tackle obviously they
04:30got to address that left tackle moving forward here but uh the guys they got are guys that you you
04:35would like them to knock everybody down but that's not that's not always what successful football is
04:39you got to know who you're blocking and you got to make sure you get a hat on a hat
04:42and these guys will
04:43do that so I think it's been these these guys they brought in uh I think it's a very very
04:47good
04:48offseason so far because uh the guys that everybody wants to see the receivers the quarterbacks etc
04:53they're not any good unless this offensive line gets better so I think they're doing a good job
04:57of improving this offensive line so coach let me ask you a question because you take a look and you
05:01tell me the the guys aren't maulers and these are you know mostly interior guys or you talk about that
05:06run game what does that do kind of scheme wise for you does that limit you in somewhat of what
05:10you
05:10can run or does it lead you to believe the Browns are probably you know leaning towards one scheme
05:14compared to another especially on the ground game well you know I'll use Wyatt Teller's example
05:18Wyatt doesn't need help he will knock you down he's one of the he generates so much power in that
05:22little uh area of an offensive lineman but when you're not a guy who's vertically going to displace
05:27somebody you got to make sure your double teams are good and the double teams are good if you
05:31work at them and you're technically sound and fundamentally sound in your double teams
05:34and you understand where blitzes are coming from you know I was watching uh got some cut-ups of uh
05:39Zion
05:40Zion and what he does really well is he sees blitzes coming he understands this guy's in the
05:45three technique my a gap is open there's some things he does very very well he understands the
05:49game so no it doesn't limit them at all they just got to be very sound in what they're doing
05:52and compared to what the Browns used to run so the Browns uh for a while when they were rolling
05:57they
05:57didn't care how many you had in the box they're giving it to Chubb and they're going to try to
06:00knock
06:00you down now you're going to see things with this offense uh obviously more pass but in the even in
06:05the
06:05run game they're going to run the ball with six man box they're not going to run against
06:08these seven eight man boxes so you're going to see um more position blocking but again they're
06:13going to do whatever the defense does poorly and whatever they do well because that's how
06:16Monken works so uh no worries these guys are all very very good at what they do there but they're
06:21not people who are just going to physically knock you down like Wyatt Teller did but they're very good
06:25offensive linemen so they've obviously done I mean a good amount of work here we talk about it you feel
06:29relatively comfortable saying they have about four starters in the room right now between the trade for
06:34Titus Howard and the three guys they've added there's obviously still some work left to do in
06:39the trenches because uh you don't have a left tackle as it stands right now yeah and partially
06:44barring DeJuan Jones health but even last year we saw him shifted back over to right tackle because
06:49left tackle wasn't really working you kind of get into an interesting spot because left tackle needs
06:54to be addressed I think the thing that goes unnoticed and you want to talk about not sexy it's not
06:58going
06:58to be a sexy thing to talk about but I mean we just saw Elton Jenkins deal with injuries we
07:02know
07:03that Tevin has not been the healthiest person on the world Titus Howard the last couple of years
07:06has been healthy but earlier in his career dealt with some injury issues does not be healthiest
07:11offense line and what you're missing right now offensive line lies too that you're going to see
07:15this pop up probably later March into April and kind of you'll address it in the draft offensive line
07:20depth you're still going to be signing offensive linemen in here because guys who are sticking around
07:23are like I mean Katie Leveson still under a contract if I'm not mistaken Zach Zinner still here Luke
07:28Whipler still here but you're still missing I mean a ton of tackle depth uh and probably some
07:34interior depth on top of that so there's still a lot to add to this room in addition to I
07:38don't know
07:38where you're finding left tackle it feels like Rasheed Walker or you're going to the draft right
07:42well you've got versatility though Titus Howard's played guard as well as right tackle okay uh Elton
07:50Jenkins from the Packers his two Pro Bowl seasons were at guard but he played center last year okay
07:56as also uh that 2022 year played right tackle he was left guard right tackle while he was a pro
08:00bowler as well right Zion Johnson has experience playing both guard positions so yes I hear what
08:07you're saying about uh depth concerns about injury history with the offensive line but what you've seen
08:14Andrew Berry do is bring in guys with a lot of versatility so you can move pieces and parts around
08:20because let's be honest about it while we we had a three to four year stretch where we got really
08:25spoiled by the the health of the Browns offensive line and it seems like the last three years
08:30just been decimated with injuries and then they've just kind of had to fly by the seat of their pants
08:35many weeks and especially last season right and and and so um you you try and plan for the worst
08:43case scenario and and I kind of feel like with some of the players that Berry has brought in like
08:48that's what he's done is he's given himself a little bit of insurance okay if this guy goes down well
08:55we have the versatility and the flexibility to move some some people around uh up front they're not
09:01done okay let's not act like okay we can just wash our hands so this uh kick back relax and
09:07wait for
09:07uh the NFL draft at the end of April for them to pick the left tackle they're not done there
09:12I I do think
09:13that there could be a a couple of um fringe signings if you will um you know coach has talked
09:20about
09:21KT uh KT Leveston maybe he can work at guard and not so much at tackle which at all yeah
09:27I mean
09:28again just put a construction barrel uh instead of KT out there if you're going to use him at tackle
09:34but um I I do like that Andrew Berry has found players that he clearly likes uh but also too
09:44he's
09:44brought in guys that can be moved around that offensive line if circumstances dictate that's what
09:51they need to do and I mean we've also gone back Andrew Berry's had the quote of like hey you
09:56know
09:56offensive linemen can kind of they can play both sides like if I have a right tackle I'm confident
10:00that he's probably able to pick up and play left tackle but it's not that now those words are just
10:05coming out and they don't mean anything he's legitimately picking up guys who hey they're showing me
10:10they can do this right I believe guys can do is these guys have already displayed to me oh well
10:14if you've played you know right guard this guy's also played left guard like he's done it both Zion
10:18Johnson has played both sides Titus Howard has played both sides Elton Jenkins has played both sides of
10:22the line like all of these guys have the versatility and Tevin fits into that as well where yeah it's
10:27not
10:27only injury insurance but I think it also like even right now we could build out an offensive line
10:31and what we think it kind of looks like for all we know they could just go Elton Jenkins is
10:36better at
10:37left guard uh we're actually just going to swing Zion in to be a center because sure he could
10:41probably do it and again I'm not saying that's happening but you've left also like a million
10:45combinations that it feels like this offensive line can still have yeah I mean right now uh this is how
10:51I'm projecting this to to play out I've got Titus Howard is the right tackle um I've got uh Zion
10:58Johnson is the right guard I've got Elton Jenkins as the center Tevin Jenkins as the left guard okay that
11:06that's
11:06just and then left tackle uh probably the draft that that's where I'm at right now uh now they may
11:14flip the guards maybe they put Tevin on the right side and they put Zion on the left side just
11:21because
11:21that's the quarterback's uh blind spot maybe you want a little more experience on that side so um
11:28um but there there is I think uh you know some combinations that are going to be at uh George
11:34Warhop and uh Todd Munkin's disposal here uh and then you know you know as they go through the OTAs
11:41and the mini camps and then training camp right I think all this stuff's going to sort out you just
11:45hope that uh everybody gets to the regular season healthy and the plan that they originally had
11:51here in the offseason right uh they'll tell you right now they don't have a depth chart
11:56they're lying to you they absolutely have a depth chart right now okay uh Todd Munkin's got one
12:02Andrew Barry's got one especially Andrew Barry has one right now whether it's the the magnets up on
12:08the uh the board in the war room or whatever but uh they do have a depth chart right now
12:12and and again
12:13I think these are your starters and then everyone else is going to kind of fill in behind them makes
12:18a
12:18lot of sense we're going to get more into this offensive line too because one of the pieces that we
12:22pointed to who might feel like we know but we can't 100% say we know at this point Joel
12:26Batonio
12:26is still floating out there today is you know displayed as kind of the last day we know on
12:31Joel Batonio but we sit here at 717 and still don't have an answer
