00:22It didn't seem like everybody was going full speed.
00:26Yeah, I don't want to put too much into one day.
00:28I think that's unfair to Deshaun.
00:31It's unfair to Shador.
00:32They're going to have good days.
00:33They're going to have bad days.
00:34They're going to make good throws.
00:35They're going to make bad throws.
00:36Good decisions, bad decisions.
00:37And you never know exactly what they're trying to practice at the moment.
00:41Oh, Jeff.
00:43People don't know.
00:44Now you're preaching.
00:44This is my argument with the pro football focus numbers
00:50where they come out and they're grading players
00:53not knowing what the scheme was, what the call was,
00:56who made the mistake, all those kinds of things.
00:58And what exactly you were expected to do on that play.

01:02Back to your point about Todd Munkin.
01:03Yeah, I do like the way he set the tone with the quarterbacks yesterday.
01:06It was basically what we expected, Jeff, right?
01:08He came out and said, hey, nothing has really changed.
01:11Here's what I'm going to do.
01:12I think you'll hear today, you know,
01:14when he's asked to assess the way the guys played yesterday,
01:18before today's practice, he'll say, you know, both guys look good.
01:21You know, Deshaun had some good moments.
01:23Shador had some good moments.
01:24That's what he's supposed to do as a coach, right?
01:25He's got to prop these guys up.
01:27I think a lot of times fans get caught up in, you know,
01:30how come the coach didn't come out and, you know, rip the player
01:33or, you know, condemn the pitcher for blowing the game or whatever.
01:37You don't do that.
01:38You need them the next day.
01:40Of course you do.
01:41And you're building a culture here as much as everything else.
01:43And so I do like the way that Munkin is handling this to this point.
01:48You know, I do think it's going to be interesting to keep an eye on Dylan Gabriel
01:52from this standpoint, that there's going to be an odd man out here at some point.
01:56And depending on what the decision is made with the starting quarterback,
02:00it's going to then affect who the number two and three guys are going forward here
02:04for the rest of not only the preseason, but for the regular season.
02:07So I'm really interested to see how things develop with Dylan Gabriel.
02:10You know, I'm not going to sit here and he's paired with Deshaun Watson, it appears,
02:15because he was getting the number one reps when Deshaun was taking a rest of practice.

02:20And I, by the way, I get a kick out of the two spotting now has become like the,
02:24the trendy spotting, the two phrase, the phrase, the phrase, yeah, yeah.
02:28So, yeah, we'll see what today brings.

02:34be a little bit more in the spotlight, if you will.

02:44Starting on the offensive line yesterday at left tackle, DeJuan Jones.

02:51And the thought is, apparently.

02:54Every rookie is going to have to earn his spot.

02:58You know, nothing in, in, we all know Spencer Fano is going to be a starter on the offensive

03:03You didn't draft him number nine overall to have him sit back and watch.
03:07Doesn't mean it has to be day one.

03:11And it goes to what, what we talked about yesterday a little bit with DeJuan Jones and
03:17George Warhop earlier talking about DeJuan and, you know, thinking, Hey, I want this guy
03:22to start.

03:25That means it's wide open.
03:26I totally agree.
03:27And never, and never mind the fact, Jeff, that DeJuan now, who's got experience under his
03:32belt.
03:33Oh, by the way, played at Ohio state, um, can show Spencer a couple of things or two, right?
03:39He can, he can watch him.
03:40You would think so.

03:41He can watch him and learn from him as well.
03:43So this is not a knock on your number on your first round draft pick.

03:47Um, and the same thing with the wide receivers, they, they were not with the number ones yesterday.

03:55And I think this is why, you know, Todd, I like that move.

03:59This is why he's refreshing and why this staff is refreshing at this point.
04:02They're going to put the best players out there, right?
04:04This is a staff that wants to win games.
04:06These are competitive gentlemen.
04:08We talked about this yesterday, Jeff, uh, you know, they're going to put the best guy,
04:12the best five out there, right?
04:14On the offensive line.
04:15They're going to put the best quarterback behind center.
04:17And I, you know, I think people get caught up in the, well, they're going to play Watson
04:21because they owe him money and all that's nonsense.
04:25I agree.
04:26They're going to try, they're going to try to win games.
04:27And oh, by the way, you know how you build a culture here by winning.
04:30And I think Todd Munkin knows that better than anybody else.
04:33And so, yeah, it didn't surprise me to see, to hear that, that DeJuan was out there.
04:37We talked about it yesterday.
04:38I like DeJuan Jones a lot, you know, knock on wood.
04:42The guy can stay healthy because I think he can help this football team.
04:44Wouldn't we like to see what he could do if he can, you know, if he can stay healthy
04:49and Munkin saying afterwards, our guys are going to have to earn their spots.
04:53That's great.
04:53But he also said the rookie wide receivers look good.
04:55You know, he was really pleased and that that's terrific.
04:59It builds depth.
05:01It builds accountability.
05:03You know, hey, we're not just going to give you the job.
05:05You've got to show us something.
05:07But they'll be out there sooner rather than later.

05:09You know, that's, I mean, that's all part of this.

05:11We're just, we're just getting started here, Jeff.
05:13You know, as you know, and we talked about it yesterday and we saw it around the league,

05:18Things change in a nanosecond in the NFL, especially in summer training camps.
05:22I mean, guys are walking, you know, a couple of guys yesterday walked back with trainers
05:26into the medical facility.
05:28The line moves quickly.
05:29Things change real fast.
05:32And so nothing is set in stone, especially not on, where are we, July 29th?
05:37Nothing is set in stone today.
05:39So, you know, tomorrow will be an entirely different conversation based on what happens
05:44today at today's practice.
05:45And that's fine.
05:46And the other thing too, Jeff, and I don't want to go on a tangent here, but I just want
05:49to say this, I think a lot of fans here are, are so caught up in this quarterback controversy,
05:55controversy, competition.
05:57It's not a controversy yet.
05:58Not yet.
05:59Some people may say so, but I think Browns fans should really reflect on what's, what's
06:05positive and what, what good is happening out there.
06:08And the fact that, you know, as you just talked about, Jeff, this young, this young rookie
06:14group, right, a new rookie group building off of that sensational rookie group that we
06:19saw last year, you know, this is a team that's in the midst, and this is what Andrew Barry's
06:23going to talk about today.
06:24This is a team that's in the midst of a, a rebuild, another rebuild.
06:28And I don't want to say that, Tom, but it is.
06:30It is.
06:31How is it not?
06:32Of course it is.
06:33Every move that they've made is reflective of a rebuild.
06:36Look at all the young talent all around, especially on the offense, and don't tell me it's not a
06:41rebuild.
06:41Well, and then look at the signings of Denzel Ward and, and, and Grant Elpit over the last
06:45two days.
06:46Those are signs of a rebuild as well, just in terms of you want to have your core guys
06:51in place to help build around them.
06:53You're trying to build a culture here.
06:54You're trying to build back your roster.
06:56You're trying to get out from some of the bad decisions that were made over the last four
07:00years.
07:00So, uh, you know, I, again, I think, I think fans should focus on, Hey, would a great outcome
07:06be if Deshaun Watson had became the comeback player of the year, that'd be a great outcome.
07:11Would a great outcome be if Shadur Sanders showed that he could be a franchise quarterback?
07:15My God.
07:16Yes.
07:16Right.
07:17And I think the trouble is that it's probably going to fall somewhere in between on both
07:21of those fronts.
07:22So we'll see.
07:23But I think, I think people should be excited about this.
07:26Um, I know people get caught up in the same old Browns and worrying about wins and what
07:30have you.
07:31It's the start of something fresh.
07:32And I think that's positive and an optimistic.
07:34One thing Todd Munkin said yesterday that, that stuck with me.
07:39And then I think he backed it up by the way they structured practice yesterday with the
07:45young guys, not being with the starters where he said, just pay attention to who's with the
07:50ones.
07:51And that will give you an indie.
07:52I mean, it's real common or common sense, but pay attention.
07:56Who's with the ones.
07:56And that might give you a real good idea of who the starters are.
08:00And I think that's good because it doesn't seem to me, Tom, like he's going to mess around
08:04with this.
08:05Hey, you look better.
08:06You're going to be starting blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
08:08The other aspect of, of that to me that I think, I think people need to understand they
08:15might be rebuilding, but Todd Munkin is 60.
08:19That's not old, but it is, it is also, it's like the second oldest ever head coach to get
08:27his first NFL head coaching chance.
08:31Second, I think second or third oldest that doesn't happen very often.
08:35They can be rebuilding like crazy.
08:37If he comes out and wins four or five games, he's not going to be a coach when he is

08:41years old.
08:42A hundred percent.
08:43And so he has to win.
08:45Jeff, it was one of the first things that came out of his mouth yesterday was this is
08:48a dream come true.
08:49Tom.
08:49Right?
08:50Yes.
08:50At 60, he waited that long for this opportunity.
08:54And finally got it.
08:54Remember when he got hired, how giddy his family was for him.
08:57Absolutely.
08:58And, and he, he's not going to sit back and say, you know, it's better for the development
09:05of the franchise.
09:05If blah, blah, blah, he's got to win games.
09:09I mean, they, they can say, no, we're developing.
09:12We're coming.
09:13He has to win games and he knows that.
09:16And he's got a locker room full of guys that want to win games.
09:18You heard Denzel Ward say it yesterday.
09:20Yeah.
09:20I don't want to hear about this tanking, right?
09:22I'm with the Browns.
09:23I'm here to win.
09:24We want to win games.
09:25So, um, and that's, that's part of a culture building as well.
09:29And, and to your point, I mean, Todd Munkin has been around successful programs, right?
09:33Whether it's at Georgia or Baltimore or elsewhere.
09:36And he's waited his entire life for this opportunity.
09:39I, I've said this before, Jeff, and we've talked about it.
09:41I think the rub then becomes, you know, the front office, Andrew Barry and company pushing
09:49back with whatever their agenda is and whatever their game plan is going forward to what Todd
09:55Munkin wants to get done in the moment.
09:56So I think as the season progresses, that becomes more of a thing, depending on what you're looking
10:03to do in 2027 with the quarterback class and other matters.
10:07We'll get into this in just a little bit, but I think that something that shows that that
10:12is completely the case.
10:14Kevin's not here anymore.
10:16Andrew Barry is.
10:18I think it was really safe to assume that they were a package deal because they started in
10:23the same season, right?
10:24And the fact that they were split shows that the Haslam's are thinking one way about how
10:31the team is being put together and another way about how that same group is being coached.

10:37Which, which to me shows, okay, Todd, you're not with Andrew Barry.
10:44You and your staff are on your own here.
10:46You take it and make it work.
10:48That's fair.
10:49I think that's a good way to look at it, Jeff.
10:51I do think in some ways they were a package deal, but obviously things changed.

10:58It came apart at the seams and, you know, there was a real need, I think, and this is
11:03not a knock on Kevin Stefanski who I will not defend, but I can, you know, I can, I was
11:09privy to some information to know that he did about the best that he could given what
11:14he was handed, right?

11:16I still think he's a really good coach.
11:18I think he'll do a nice job in Atlanta.
11:19Man, oh, by the way, he's, he's already got some things going on down there that
11:22is, um, right in Cooper rush and then cut Trevor Simeon.
11:26Yeah.
11:27And he's got Bijan and a hold that hold in like I'm in.
11:29So you are right now.
11:31Yeah.
11:31So, um, yeah.
11:33So, you know, it's going to be fascinating to see what this 60 year old coach does with,
11:38um, a real young team, but, um, one that's got some real promise.
