11 March - National morning forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there and welcome to your windy Wednesday forecast. Yes, this morning is very windy outside, particularly across the north
00:07and the west of Scotland where we do have a warning for wind.
00:11Guts could reach through this morning 50 to 60 miles an hour with some severe gales.
00:15Now the west of the winds will clear but they will return on Thursday with some intense rain as it
00:20extends across the country down towards the south.
00:23These squally winds associated with it, the air is colder behind, so an increasing chance of some snow, particularly across
00:29northern hills and mountains.
00:32And then that wind tends to ease somewhat into the weekend across England and Wales.
00:37If you're stepping out first thing this morning, you can see it's wet across Scotland with that driving wind, high
00:43waves associated with it as well.
00:45Heavy blustery showers across Northern Ireland, one or two could reach the Isle of Man.
00:50For most of England and Wales though, it's a mostly dry start to the day, although we are seeing a
00:55cluster of showers moving in across the west country, clipping the far south of Wales and maybe one or two
01:02further east as well.
01:03At least though, you'll see some brighter weather through this morning, if not some sunshine.
01:07Now this wet weather across Scotland is extending its way northwards and northeastwards to be replaced by blustery showers through
01:14the afternoon.
01:15A similar situation for Northern Ireland, these showers becoming a bit more scattered as we head through the latter part
01:20of the day.
01:21The cloud could build across England and Wales through the middle part of the day.
01:26Again, the odd residual shower can't be ruled out, most places here will be dry.
01:30And some brighter weather to end the day, anywhere from Aberdeenshire down towards Fife.
01:36Temperatures then coming in around 10 to 12 degrees Celsius.
01:38Still rather blustery as we head through the afternoon and into evening time as the cloud thickens across Northern Ireland
01:45and Scotland.
01:46And this will bring the onset of more rain.
01:49For England and Wales, it's a mostly dry evening, some clearer skies here.
01:54Winds easing towards the south as well as the east, but they'll pick up across more western parts of Scotland
02:00as this cold front moves in.
02:02Now this will be an intense feature.
02:05Some heavy downpours are likely into the early hours of Thursday morning and accompanying that, yes, some squally winds.
02:12So the winds will pick up everywhere through Thursday and certainly through the morning will be a wet and windy
02:17start across Northern Ireland as well as Scotland.
02:20Notice showers waiting across the northwest and they'll file in as this band of rain on Thursday morning sinks southwards.
02:28Now a dry start across the Midlands, eastern counties, more clouds across Wales, Northern England as well as the west
02:34country with the rain slowly gathering here through the morning into the afternoon.
02:39And yet again, the rain will be squally and heavy.
02:42Showers will follow across Scotland and Northern Ireland, but southern parts of Northern Ireland, Newry and Belfast hanging on to
02:47that rain until later.
02:49And we'll see some rain arrive across more central and eastern areas of England through the afternoon.
02:54So the rain eventually, with those heavy downpours, clears towards the southeast.
03:00Through Friday, the air is colder.
03:02We will see some wintryness in the mix with those showers.
03:06And showers will gather across the south coast as well into Saturday morning as a ridge extends very temporarily towards
03:13more central and southern areas.
03:16But still some showers out there.
03:18Now for more details of our 10-day trend that will be issued later, it's coming on our YouTube channels.
03:23Take care, have a lovely day, watch out for the wind and the rain.
03:27See you again soon.
