00:00Hello and a very good morning to you on this Thursday morning. Mixed blessings really in terms of our weather.
00:06We have cloud and rain across the north as well as the west. Brighter skies weather east after a chilly
00:11start. Temperatures rising very quickly because of the sunshine could be the warmest day of the year. But notice this
00:16front is edging its way southwards. So as we head through to Friday we hang on to the cloud across
00:22much of England and some parts of Wales. But we see the sun come out with this ridge of high
00:28pressure across Scotland.
00:30as well as Northern Ireland after a frosty start even so some blue sky to end the working week. And
00:35the cloud will just come and go with a little bit of rain further south and east only slowly fading
00:42away through Friday and into Saturday. High pressure is in charge for most through the weekend. There will be some
00:50clouds stuck underneath that cell of high pressure with weather fronts just stalling across the far north and west. And
00:56in fact there will be the chance of a little showery rain particularly
00:59across more western areas as we head through to Sunday. Temperatures though probably around average for this time of year
01:05slightly above across more southern and eastern areas. If you are stepping out first thing this morning here's the cloud
01:12outbreaks of rain covering most of Orkney nudging towards Shetland. Filaments moving in across the Cairngorns. But for the bulk
01:21of central and western Scotland yes it's a wet start.
01:24That rain will be patchy across the south west there more cloud across borders and that cloud rolling in across
01:30Cumbria as well. Northern Ireland seeing a wet start to the day. The wind will change direction across Northern Ireland.
01:38It's going to turn chillier later as well.
01:40And notice that cloud also affecting west Wales as well as some parts of the west country. Inland under starry
01:47skies a lighter breeze. We're seeing one or two mist and fog patches across the valleys of Wales. Certainly a
01:52chilly start here. Lowest temperatures have dipped down to around 2 degrees Celsius. But notice some clearer skies. And this
02:00time of year we have a real extreme in temperature from night time to day time when the sun really
02:05gets to work. And certainly that will be the case through today.
02:08So the sun will allow temperatures to rise very nicely through the afternoon. The high teens across the south east,
02:14the Midlands. This cloud and rain sticks across these parts through the morning. Notice it's slow moving. But it is
02:22attempting to edge its way eastwards. So through the afternoon you'll see some rain arriving across Fife, Angus, Aberdeen, the
02:30Isle of Man, Pembrokeshire, Kerrydigion, Anglesey as it clears the west of Northern Ireland. And the wind then changes direction.
02:38So it's going to feel colder into Thursday evening. At the same time look at these temperatures across England and
02:44Wales helped by the sunshine. So for east Wales 17 we could see a 19 down towards the southeast. Along
02:51this east coast helped with some blue sky and warm sunshine 16 degrees Celsius. In old money that's 61 degrees
02:57Fahrenheit. For the central belt coming in probably around 14 Celsius. But for the west there arriving probably around 9
03:05or 10 Celsius at the very best.
03:08So there is a back edge to this cloud and rain through the evening. Notice some clearer skies arriving around
03:15Northern Ireland as well as Western Scotland by 7, 8 o'clock in the evening.
03:20And we could see this rain perhaps even turning to snow for a time across the Grampians. So it will
03:27edge down towards Northern England covering Wales as well as the west country. Thickening clouds just spilling towards the Midlands
03:35the southeast of England.
03:37Whereas a further northwest a widespread frost as we start the day on Friday. A lighter breeze here as well.
03:45So Friday dawns very differently to Thursday. We'll see a chilly morning with some frost across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:53But also some sunny spells. For England and Wales and probably the far south of Scotland for the first part
03:59of the day. Some outbreaks of rain extending towards Wales.
04:03Bits and spots down towards the west country cloud rolling in across the southeast. But places such as Kent you
04:09may just get away with a bright morning before that cloud just slowly moves in.
04:14And here temperatures holding up 6 to 9 degrees Celsius. So through Friday here's that weather front. It's weakening all
04:23the while. Still some rain around Northern England, Northeastern parts of Wales, the North Midlands.
04:29Through the afternoon some lovely sunshine continues across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Edging in across Anglesey, Gwynedd, down towards Pembrokeshire,
04:39Cornwall as well as Devon.
04:40But the cloud could be stubborn across the bulk of England and East Wales as well. And here temperatures are
04:46a lot lower than today. Coming in around 8 to 12 degrees Celsius.
04:50And probably around 9 or 10 across the central belt of Scotland despite the fact you'll see sunny spells.
04:55Now here's that ridge of high pressure moving in through Friday. Weather fronts close to the northwest bringing with it
05:01rain at times. A bit of a breeze here as well.
05:04But through Sunday we continue under the clouds and there could be some shallery bursts just edging their way northwards.
05:10Wherever you are, have a lovely day. Enjoy the sunshine today and tomorrow. And for the 10-day trend, catch
05:16it this week. It's with Alex Seacon. See you later.
