00:00Hello and a very good morning to you on this Wednesday morning which is bitterly cold outside.
00:05There are warnings in force and the risk of snow showers today as well as ice through this morning.
00:10Here are your warning zones for snow and ice where you see those snow showers and we're seeing temperatures plummet overnight.
00:18In fact, as we head through the day, these wintry showers will push down across Irish seacoast towards the west country
00:24where there's a snow and ice warning through lunchtime and into the afternoon and evening time.
00:29Ice accumulations will be the North York Moors as well as the Highlands of Scotland with some drifting because of the strength of the wind.
00:36So it's a very cold start to the day if you are stepping out and you may run into some problems particularly with slippery surfaces and that snow.
00:43Certainly across the higher routes of northern and central Scotland with the risk of ice further south where you've seen showers over the last 24 hours or so.
00:52For Northern Ireland, those snow showers continue with rain and snow along the coastline and some rain showers pushing in across Irish seacoast towards the west country.
01:01But certainly inland with the air being cold, you may find it turning wintry.
01:05This area of cloud and rain here is associated with it.
01:09We could see some wet snow.
01:10It's been sliding southwards throughout the night.
01:12So some wet weather to come across the Midlands, East Anglia, the south east of England first thing this morning.
01:18The air behind it is very cold with a severe frost particularly in the countryside.
01:24But notice there is a clearance coming in.
01:26It's pushing towards the south east before clearing and inland then you'll see some brighter skies if not some sunshine.
01:32But along the coast, relentless wind and also a lot of those wintry showers pushing in with further accumulations likely through the morning and into the afternoon.
01:43But the clouds will break across the Midlands, central southern England through the latter part of the day.
01:47Certainly some brighter skies to end the day.
01:49South west Scotland, north west England, mid Wales as well.
01:52So here are your warning zones through the afternoon today.
01:55You can see where we're likely the greatest level of snow showers with the risk of ice and that very cold wind.
02:04Through this evening if you are travelling, note there will be wintry showers towards the west there.
02:09Also eastern counties so certainly across the North York moors and even the Pennines towards the east there.
02:16You may find some slippery surfaces.
02:18A lot of showers still coming in across Northern Ireland and a lot also for central and northern areas of Scotland.
02:23As temperatures plummet quickly so return to ice through the evening as well as a frost and a severe frost into Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
02:33Clearer skies as well and temperatures will be lower than last night.
02:37Even lower still into Thursday night where we could see values down as low as minus 11 Celsius across Scotland, minus 7 across mid Wales.
02:46Into Thursday morning then some brighter skies coming through towards the west.
02:49Those snow showers continuing along the coast but with the strength of the wind penetrating inland as well.
02:55And here are your temperatures, 5 or 6 degrees Celsius at the very best.
02:59A slight change coming in as we head through to Friday.
03:02It's a bright start with a very cold air still covering us, the risk of a severe frost.
03:07But more clouds and some rain arriving from the west and it could be preceded by some snow.
