00:00What is what is going up with Caleb Downs?
00:02So this is this was something that started making the rounds yesterday.
00:07And there had been chatter about this coming out of India a little bit.
00:12And I know there's some confusion because.
00:15So here's the thing.
00:15The person who broke it is not somebody that a lot of people know.
00:21And so I think naturally people just go, is this real?
00:24Is this true?
00:26But the report is, is that he was flagged and the report came from Corey Kinnon is his name.
00:33Sure.
00:34He's an NFL draft writer, I guess.
00:37But he said that Caleb Downs was flagged this week with a partially torn meniscus, which is not the worst
00:44thing in the world.
00:45But there's also concern about a possible degenerative ACL, which would be that would be significant.
00:54Yeah, that's something that if you're talking about degenerative knee, that that definitely is a concern.
01:00Now, here's the only thing about this question and the reason why some people are like panicking a little bit.
01:05It does not say who found it does not say which doctors found the injury or the condition.
01:12I know teams would.
01:16There's there might be a difference of opinion on because it says possible degenerative ACL.
01:22I think some doctors would look at it and go, no, it's fine.
01:26And some team doctors may look at it and go, no, that's not good.
01:30Others would look at it and go, I have no idea.
01:31It's what you were talking about.
01:33You referenced earlier.
01:34It's the it's the Jeremiah Trotter question that brought us this whole before where he asked somebody said, tell me
01:40about Trotter.
01:40Like, is he going to be OK?
01:42And the doctor told him he could play 10 games or 10 years.
01:44I don't know.
01:45So this is the problem, because, like, you know, every every every human sees things differently.
01:50Every doctor can see things differently.
01:52So how do you know when to trust your doctor?
01:56You've got your team doctor.
01:57You want to put trust in them.
01:58But if I think you have your team.
02:00I think you if you have your team doctor, it's because you trust them.
02:05OK, what I'm saying is, like, all right, your team doctor says this.
02:09Mm hmm.
02:10Twenty five team doctors say something else.
02:12Mm hmm.
02:13Are you blindly just trusting your guy?
02:15Are you asking what I would do or what the Cowboys would do?
02:17Sure.
02:18Which one?
02:20All right.
02:21Well, let's do both.
02:22What would you do?
02:23I don't think I could ever feel comfortable just trusting one doctor.
02:27What would the Cowboys do?
02:28I think the Cowboys and most other NFL teams would trust their doctor.
02:32And they would say, this is the guy we've hired to be an expert in this field.
02:34In this situation, we're going to trust it.
02:38I mean, I'm not saying it's wrong.
02:40No, there have been plenty of you trust your guy.
02:42You trust your guy.
02:43Yeah.
02:44And twenty five doctors saying it and seven not.
02:47OK, I mean, that's still there's still a shot.
02:49Those twenty five percent are right.
02:52But this is enough of a question now based on this report, which is this is not out there.
02:57And the reason why I don't think it was out there is because I think technically hippo laws.
03:01Like we've talked about before, but this is this is the report out there.
03:05This could this could push it down a little bit.
03:10Push Caleb down, Caleb down.
03:12Now I would exactly push Caleb down the board a little bit.
03:15I will say.
03:18So I can't say which team found it.
03:23Do you know?
03:24Yes.
03:26It's a team after Dallas, though.
03:29Oh, baby.
03:31We're guessing.
03:32Yeah.
03:33Philly Rams.
03:34Rams.
03:35I'm not going to say I'm not going to say who, but I'm saying that if this is the only
03:39team that feels that way, blink twice.
03:41If it's the Rams, if this is the only team that feels this way, then it's not necessarily
03:48going to push them down the board to you because this team is picking after you.
03:52Anyway, Kansas City there before.
03:54Oh, if you breathe again, this segment, I'm going to assume it's the Lions.
04:10Look, this is how to breathe.
04:12This is the dirty.
04:13Buffalo.
04:13This is the dirty pool of the draft.
04:16Yeah.
04:17Does he really have a degenerative knee or does one doctor say that?
04:21And he puts it out there.
04:23Potentially a degenerative knee, which means that even the doctor who I guess looked at
04:29it and flagged it was not fully convinced of it.
04:35Just looked at it as, hey, this might be a long term problem.
04:39Man, I'm if I'm opening a window, if the Cowboys are saying we're opening a window, this is
04:47what we're doing.
04:48This is the kind of risk I take.
04:52Yeah, because your window is three years.
04:53Yeah.
04:54So I'm saying, all right, let's do it.
04:56Yeah, I agree.
04:58The Rams.
04:58Let me go sign top corner available.
05:01If you because we just got done talking about how safety is the only position on Bill Barnwell's
05:08list of defensive tiered free agents.
05:11It's the only position that does not have a tier one or even a tier two player available
05:17in free agency this year.
05:18The teams after the Cowboys.
05:21All right.
05:22These are the teams that if I were them and I got this news and I'm going to include the
05:25Cowboys in this, I'm still saying yes because of the window.
05:29Okay.
05:30So Cowboys.
05:31Yes.
05:31Rams pick at 13.
05:33Yes.
05:33Baltimore at 14.
05:35Yes.
05:37Tampa at 15.
05:37I don't know.
05:40I feel like their window's bigger, but I also don't.
05:42I don't feel they also.
05:43I don't know that they have a window.
05:45They don't have a window.
05:45It doesn't feel like a window to me.
05:46Jets.
05:47No.
05:48Detroit at 17.
05:49Yes.
05:51Minnesota at 18.
05:56Sure.
05:58I mean, they're clearly panicking about their quarterback situation.
06:00They think they have something.
06:02Yeah.
06:02They think they have a team.
06:04They think they've got some sort of window, I guess, to take advantage of.
06:10And then you get Carolina.
06:12Not yet.
06:13And the Cowboys.
06:14Yes.
06:14And then Pittsburgh.
06:16I don't know about Pittsburgh.
06:17But if this is not a real injury, I got a big problem with this doctor.
06:24I mean, the meniscus would be.
06:26No, no.
06:26That would be real.
06:27If this is not a degenerative injury and any team that floats out a potential.
06:33Doctor did.
06:33I don't think doctor leaked this.
06:35I think it just.
06:35A team did.
06:36I think discussion happened.
06:37Okay.
06:38I'll be completely honest.
06:39Like, if a team purposely leaks bad information that they know is wrong just to get a player
06:44to drop, I got a problem with that.
06:46You're playing with somebody's money.
06:48100%.
06:48I'll say this.
06:50I did not do this.
06:54But we can put this out there.
06:57It was reported yesterday, Ahmad Moses, who is a safety at SMU.
07:02Good player.
07:02Like, I think he's a really talented player.
07:05Really high marks for being just a great kid all the way around.
07:09Uh, it came out yesterday.
07:10Tom Pellicero reported that Ahmad Moses has a condition where he's going to have to get
07:16some surgery done, like on his neck or something.
07:20Um, I knew this last week and not for any sort of like just really hard work pounding
07:30the pavement sort of thing.
07:32This is what happens when you're in Indy.
07:34I'm sitting in the lobby waiting for you guys to come downstairs.
07:38And I guess his parents were in the hotel and they took the call on speaker from the
07:43agent telling them.
07:44Um, and so like this, you can find this out any number of ways.
07:51I, I found out about Ahmad Moses just sitting there in a hotel because the parents took the
07:56call on speaker next to me.
07:57Oh my God.
07:59Like, and that's, I didn't do anything with it.
08:02I'm not going to do anything with it.
08:03Cause it's like, all right, let's, I'm not supposed to even be hearing it, but I mean,
08:06it's right there.
08:06Like you can't not hear what's being discussed.
08:09It's literally right there while I was waiting for you guys to get downstairs.
08:13So that kind of thing is, there's no telling how this would have gotten out.
08:19It could have gotten out any number of ways.
08:21Now I think this specific reporter said they were told this by a scout that a scout had
08:27told them that he had been flagged, but there's, there's really no telling how this
08:32sort of chatter gets around.
08:34Once it's found, all 32 teams are informed.
08:37All 32 teams are told about it.
08:39Okay.
08:40And so it could be, it could be that it was the only, yeah, could be that just one doctor
08:45found it or whatever.
08:46And, but all teams are informed when, when it's discovered.
08:48All right.
08:49Well, I'm still in, I'm still in the windows short.
08:51Uh, you know, I don't necessarily need it for 10 years.
08:54Let's, um, I'm still in, I would like it for 10 years, but, uh, I don't necessarily
08:58have to have it.
08:59It's Sean and RJ here on one Oh five through the fan.
09:02Ask credit coming up in a couple of minutes.
09:04Bobby's nemesis.
09:05Who's Bobby's nemesis?
09:06Peyton Russell, Marcus Moser.
09:09Who's also is Bobby's nemesis?
09:11Dan Orlovsky.
09:12Dan Orlovsky.
09:14Dan Orlovsky was on get up yesterday and was talking about the Cowboys.
09:20He's opening a window opening.
09:23We were talking about whether their window was closing.
09:27We talked about that a lot lately.
09:29Dan, what do you think of that?
09:30I really think a new window is starting.
09:32If they hit this off season, the right way, I firmly believe that they less than 5% of
09:38the money that the Cowboys have presently allocated to their team is spent on free agents.
09:43Yet, this has been a good football team for the better part of half of a decade.
09:47So that tells you, Will McClay, who's really like the person choosing their players in many
09:51ways, it tells you the job.
09:53They're two or three players away on defense from all of a sudden becoming real contenders.
09:58Totally agree on their offense.
09:59They got to get Pickens to at least play on the tag.
10:02They'll figure that out, hopefully.
10:04But if they can get a backer, an edge rusher, and a secondary player that are high-end players,
10:11that defense gets solid, and now we're talking about a team that can tend.
10:15I think that's half the amount of players they need.
10:19Two or three is way off.
10:21I think it's way off.
10:24That's the whole reason anybody's even discussing George Pickens being traded.
10:29The whole reason you're even discussing that is just like, yeah, resource allocation of
10:36just like, well, we got this money, and we got two first-round picks, and we still don't
10:40feel like we have enough to cover everything.
10:42Maybe we need to get another pick.
10:44Like, that's the kind of thing that's out there.
10:47And so, man, I think this is way off the mark.
10:50But this is also just, this is what Dan's saying now.
10:54He will say completely different next month, and whenever you press him on either one,
11:01he will then say, I never said that.
11:02I said the other.
11:03Here's my clip of me saying the other.
11:05I don't know what you're talking about.
11:05Because he has just really no character, is what I would say about Dan Orlovsky.
11:11All right, well, he continued, Peyton Russell.
11:13Oh, God.
11:14He was talking about how you should build your team to win.
11:18If I were the Dallas Cowboys, every draft pick would be a defensive player for me.
11:23The whole draft.
11:24The whole draft.
11:25Yep.
11:25I wouldn't draft any offensive players.
11:27Second thing I would say is this.
11:28I know a lot of people are saying corner, corner, corner, corner.
11:31Defensive lines win Super Bowls in the NFL at this era right now.
11:35If you watch Seattle, Seattle's defensive line dominated this season.
11:39You go to the year before Philadelphia's defensive line.
11:42It's your defensive line.
11:43You've got two pieces that are good.
11:45You have to add two more different making pieces into your defensive line.
11:49I think of Reuben Bain.
11:50I think of TJ Parker.
11:52I think of Mesidor.
11:53I think of Zion Young.
11:54I think of Bailey.
11:55Like, if I'm Dallas, that's my mindset.
11:58I'm attacking the defensive line.
12:00I'm not obsessed with the secondary right now in Dallas.
12:05Okay.
12:06I mean, there's a lot of issues with that defense.
12:09I don't think you can undersell how bad they were.
12:11They were so bad.
12:12And I know Seattle's defensive line was really awesome this year.
12:17And, you know, Seattle's also got really good players in the secondary and good linebackers.
12:22Like, Seattle's a good defense at all three levels.
12:24But when he's talking about, like, defensive lines, is he talking about, like, sacks?
12:29Because Seattle was, like—
12:29He thinks—he's trying to say this is such a just dumb take.
12:34It can help.
12:35But he's trying to just basically say, like, your secondary's fixed if you pressure the quarterback.
12:40Right.
12:40Now, Seattle was eighth in sacks.
12:42Yeah.
12:42It's not like they were top two.
12:45You know, that's good.
12:48It's not a lead.
12:49They had the fourth most interceptions.
12:50I think that played a lot bigger of a role.
12:55Also, if you look at this, four of the top five sack-leading teams missed the playoffs.
13:03So, four of the top five teams that got the most sacks missed the playoffs.
13:06I can't sit here and say it's about the defensive line and not about the secondary when all top five
13:12interception teams made the postseason.
13:15But they made it because pressure is what—
13:18Pressure plays.
13:19There's no doubt about it.
13:20Pressure plays.
13:21I think pressure is as equal or more important than a sack, necessarily, because you're impacting more plays with pressure
13:29than you are with just sacks.
13:31You're going to impact double the amount of plays, and that leads to turnover.
13:36Kobe Bryant is one of the best—
13:38One of the best players in the NBA history.
13:39100%.
13:40He's also one of the best safeties available on the market this year.
13:43Reek Wollin is a former pro bowler at corner.
13:46Nick Emanwari is a second-round pick.
13:49Borderline first-rounder who was talking about changing the complexion of their defense.
13:52Devin Witherspoon is a top-five pick at corner from three years ago.
13:58They sunk resources into the secondary.
14:00This wasn't just, we'll generate pass rush and throw dudes back there.
14:03They're not winning with Kalen Carson back there in their secondary.
14:06No.
14:06No disrespect.
14:07I'm just saying.
14:08It took some time for those guys to gel.
14:10Look, I think it's just, they clearly need a bunch of different resources to fix this.
14:17And A17 says,
14:18Bobby, discuss the positions that require experience over athleticism.
14:21These are the positions Trent should target for free agents over rookies.
14:24We did this a couple weeks ago where we talked about how quick rookies click at certain positions
14:28and how much they can contribute early on to the defensive side of the ball.
14:32Generally, defensive end and corner are the ones that you can more reliably go acquire than just bang up.
14:38Because rookies are going to take time at both of those positions a lot of times.
