00:00Major League Baseball. Can you feel it, Joe? Yesterday was the 25th. Did you know that's
00:04February 25th? And then go over to March 25th. That's the start of the Major League Baseball
00:08season and opening day, which will include the Yankees at the Giants, 8.05. But Joe,
00:14if you have good enough eyes, you can see that that game on Wednesday night, it's on
00:19Netflix. And again, if you want to have Netflix, if you want to have Apple TV, that's the
00:25perfect time to say, you know what? There's 12 games on Saturday. We're going to put one
00:29of those games on Netflix. Opening night on Netflix. I have Netflix. I will be watching.
00:34Don't get me wrong. I just can't stand this whole streaming service. This game should be on
00:38ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, whoever it might be, where everybody can relax and enjoy and those exactly
00:45where to get it. And if you just want to change the channel for one second, you have to get
00:48out
00:48of an app and get back in the app and then find your password and somebody else is using it
00:53and
00:53you can't get in. It's a shame. Yankees at Giants opening night should be a lot of fun to watch.
00:57And it's going to piss people off that it's on Netflix and rightfully so.
01:02It's going to, yes, I would say there's going to be a few upset fan bases here, but listen,
01:08you know, get with the times. Most people have Netflix. If you don't, if you're that big a Yankee
01:13fan, I mean, let's face it. You're probably not paying for cable anymore anyway. So you might as
01:18well just go ahead and get going and get used to watching games on Amazon, Netflix, Peacock,
01:25whatever it is, Donnie, that's going to be the future for sports fans. That's where
01:31you're going to get the most content. So you might as well, you know, if you can't beat
01:34them, you might as well join them.
01:36And my favorite here, which I actually like though, Joe, that Wednesday night, like is
01:40like an official opening night here. And you want to watch just that singular game to
01:43start a baseball and the next day is like the quote unquote official opening day where
01:46most teams get involved. But my favorite pet peeve in Major League Baseball and it always
01:50stands with this. I get excited. I'm a big Phillies fan. I love Major League Baseball.
01:54I love the day-to-day handicapping. The Phillies will play on Thursday. Like, yes, it's so
01:57good baseball's back in our life. Then they'll have off Friday because apparently they're so
02:02damn tired from playing opening day that they can't play day number two at this point. Now
02:06I understand, oh, if there's a rainout, what? There's no rainouts throughout the rest of
02:08the year? And understand this like, oh, we can't afford to miss like opening day. If
02:11there's a rate, I have a bill to stop the madness. You have all those tickets. Those people
02:15still be coming, whether it's opening day or whether it's in the middle of August, when
02:19you have that game, that's going to be replayed here. The fact that teams play opening
02:22day and take a day off, that's a travesty, Joe. Am I overstepping my boundary? Because
02:27I don't think I am.
02:28No, I agree. I agree with you, Donnie. It's just some of these decisions that get made here
02:35when it comes to this stuff. It's just a little bit head scratching, Donnie. I don't know
02:39why they just don't consult with you, man. You'd have all of this wrapped up, ready to
02:43go. Why are they not picking up the phone with you? NBA schedule. I mean, baseball. Hello,
02:49Donnie. Why aren't they just asking the right people? They should be. And by the way, if
02:54I was major league baseball commissioner, or if I was part of the Steinbrenner family
02:57here, they would ask me on this topic. CeCe Sabathie is number 52 will be retired on September
03:0126 by the New York Yankees will dedicate a plaque in his honor of the hall of famer at
03:05Monument Park before that day's game against the Baltimore Orioles. I like CeCe. He's a really,
03:10really good pitcher here. And this doesn't like, granted, this is much easier for my palate
03:15than Andre Iguodala actually getting his, you know, number jersey into the Raptors here.
03:21But the Yankees operate as if, and maybe they're right, in a hundred years, there will be no more
03:27major league baseball. Or it'll just be under the assumption that, yes, now in right field batting,
03:32number two, 22, 46, 68, 91, Donnie Seymour, the seventh, the seventh. Is that what we're getting
03:42to? Oh, yeah. I think we're going to have, but the rate at this, you know, we're retiring numbers
03:49left and right. We might have to start just going from a hundred up. Number 106 coming to the plate,
03:56number 123 now. I don't know what else is left, but I'm with you though, because at least CeCe is
04:04in
04:04the hall of, like you're, you're putting in Monument Park, a hall of famer that was with your
04:11organization during some of the better years. So I'm all right with that. You know, the Iguodala
04:16thing, I'm still scratching my head with you about. And again, there's a, like, you can have a
04:21Monument Park. You can put the plaque in Monument Park because it's almost like, what if Major League
04:25Baseball did this and goes, you know what? If you make the hall of fame, we retire your jersey number.
04:29And all of a sudden it's like, wait a second. So nobody can ever wear like number 12 throughout
04:32Major League Baseball's history on any team here. What's the problem with that? And I always say,
04:36like when Derek Jeter gets his number retired, it's number two. There's a lot of kids out there
04:40that want to be like Derek Jeter. Why can't they wear a number two for the Yankees? And you have
04:43the gold patch on the sleeve that has like a DJ logo where you understand that this is a living
04:49legends jersey that you're using, but I can use it and use it in perpetuity. Like I love the fact
04:53that you can honor teams and Michael Irvin always has a great, like 88 would have been retired in the
04:57Rafters. I don't want that. Like I want my legacy to live on. So when CD land makes a big
05:02play
05:02or Des Bryant makes a big play, it's like, boy, they always think of me on that field.
05:06That's the legacy you want to leave. I never understand, Joe, the jersey retirement takes
05:10it out of play for only like Gretzky. 99 should never be worn again, ever in the NHL. 23 in
05:17the
05:17NBA want to retire that. I get that here. But jersey retirements are ridiculous for individuals that
05:22were really good baseball players and understand that, but understand this too. There's a future
05:26that you hope lasts another 500 years. Why are you taking the jersey out of circulation?
05:32Well, you know, listen, Donnie, it's, I don't know. It's kind of sad, but you know,
05:36we all know Derek Jeter, you know, we grew up watching Derek Jeter. So we will forever know
05:42number two in a Yankee uniform represents Derek Jeter. I didn't grow up with Lou Gehrig and Babe
05:47Ruth, but I know damn well who was three and who was four as a New York Yankee. And I
05:53don't need to
05:53see it. I don't need to see some guy in a buck 30 wearing Babe Ruth's jersey number in a
05:59Yankee
05:59uniform. I do not need to see that. So I get it. You know, Yogi Berra, eight, you go down
06:05the list
06:06here. There are some guys that, yeah, you don't get to wear that number with this uniform. You can
06:12go wear it in like what a Red Sox uniform, but you ain't, you ain't wearing this in a Yankees
06:17uniform.
06:17Absolutely not.
06:18Yeah, but they're, and by the way, they're also shit because we used to see this in college football
06:22all the time. Like, was it Archie Griffith 45 where the Cats and More family was like, Hey,
06:26we'll come there if we can wear 45. And if the guy goes, you know what? What an awesome legacy.
06:30Like Derek Jeter actually should be able to have veto power. And they're not like Volpe calls him
06:35up. You ain't wearing my number two, brother. Better be somebody else. But like a big time free
06:39agent that goes, if I go over to the Yankees, go wear number two, I'll go there. And Jeter gives
06:43his blessing. You can use that man. Like we need this back in this, our life here where maybe the
06:48family
06:49actually makes the decision here and says, you can come back. Wasn't it also the 56 Rabble Carter?
06:54Like, Hey, I would love to wear 56 or I'd love to wear 11. And I remember Sims getting caught
06:58up. Like, Hey, Sims likes it. And he says, you know what? I'm going to blame this on my
07:00family. Not letting this guy. So I don't have to be the bad guy. Like, it's okay to be the
07:04bad guy, but I would love to see you get to reach out to the family or that player itself.
07:07Like, boy, it'd be a great respect that I can wear your Jersey. And that player would be
07:11like, man, you're not worth that Jersey. Then I can respect it. I can't show.
07:16Correct. And many aren't worthy of it.
07:19Many aren't worthy.
07:20We are worthy and we will be back in a short break. Let's go.
