00:00Now, the jokes write themselves in Major League Baseball, where the Dodgers are like,
00:03hey, look, if we play this a little bit cool, nobody's going to catch up to us.
00:06But it seems like they hit the gas pedal over the past two years to try to force a CBA
00:10that says,
00:11we pay so much more and also.
00:13A lot of times, Kevin, you hear about, like, the poison pill.
00:16We're going to offer this guy a contract, and if they don't accept it from us,
00:20the new team won't even be able to afford him after two or three years
00:22because of the acceleration there of the salary that he's going to make.
00:25And you say, Donnie, what does that mean?
00:27Well, the Dodgers are getting away with right now.
00:29Now, we'll sign you to a couple hundred million bucks.
00:31We'll pay you pennies until five or six years down the road.
00:34So if we put the CBA with a salary cap, what happens to teams like the Dodgers
00:38that circumvented that cap, and in five years, their salary explodes,
00:43but those contracts are already on the books.
00:45You as a Yankees fan, me as a Phillies fan, our teams spend money.
00:49What are we looking at with these cap proposals on a floor and also a ceiling here,
00:53and is it something that they can ever agree upon?
00:57I think so because the way you set it up, Donnie, and that everyone else has a salary cap.
01:04So I think they should be able to meet a conclusion,
01:09but the thing that just is so jarring to me from the initial numbers that are being reported,
01:15I feel as if the salary cap conversation is often with an eye on the Dodgers, specifically.
01:23And, man, I got to tell you, the bottom half of the league, I do wonder,
01:34like some people thought, Donnie, they'd vote on this, and it'd be 29 to 1,
01:37with the Dodgers being the one team who, like, no, no, no, no salary cap?
01:40Yeah.
01:41Like, Donnie, are the Washington Nationals ready to double their payroll?
01:44Are the Tampa Bay Rays ready to double their payroll?
01:47Because they now seem to be as bad, if not worse, offenders
01:51to what this league is trying to correct here with this salary cap.
01:57And one of the best parts about it is, wait a second, they didn't just float that number.
02:01That means these lower market teams can afford that.
02:03Why aren't they paying it now?
