00:00Tonight, the Yankees will take on the World Series bound Chicago White Sox, right?
00:06Like we thought that at the beginning of the season could happen.
00:08I mean, who knows?
00:09White Sox are playing some incredible baseball.
00:12Of course, the Yankees got to be favored tonight.
00:14They got Garrett Cole on the mound, minus 140.
00:17Davis Martin, who's been good yet again for Chicago, pretty much solid in every start.
00:22And Joe, certainly the total indicates that.
00:24You don't get a seven and a half often in Yankee Stadium, but you do tonight.
00:30Yeah, I mean, I got to tell you, Chicago coming off of, I mean, Dodgers, Phillies, and Braves.
00:37I mean, that's a pretty good set with one rainout.
00:39They went five and three in eight games against the three best teams in the National League there.
00:45So they are not a pushover.
00:47I mean, anybody thinking that the White Sox aren't for real, they're 38 and 32.
00:51They are legit here.
00:53They're 11 and five, by the way, over the last 16 games.
00:58You know, this is going to be a tough one.
01:00Davis Martin, you had said it, has been the surprise of the year.
01:03The kid has been absolutely lights out on the mound for him.
01:07Had a rough outing last time, two outings ago.
01:11Bounced back last outing.
01:13And yeah, Yankees are going to have their hands full in this one.
01:16I kind of like the under.
01:17I specifically like the first five under here, Craig.
01:21I think we're going to have a bit of a good old-fashioned pitchers battle here tonight, early on in
01:25this one.
01:25All right, tonight, also, the Indiana Fever back on the courts.
01:29That means it's a Kaitlin Clark game.
01:31The star of the Fever, they're minus eight and a half tonight, 7 p.m. Eastern in the WNBA.
01:37They are taking on the tempo tonight.
01:40And Kaitlin Clark has some props out there.
01:42I see 20 and a half on her total points here.
01:45The total in the game is 178 and a half.
01:49Again, Joe, Fever, minus eight and a half tonight at home.
01:53Well, it was funny, Greg.
01:54It opened up 178 and a half, which you would expect because the tempo, believe it or not, play with
02:00tempo.
02:01Yes, they love running up and down the court.
02:03And you've got, of course, the Indiana Fever, who's never met a three they didn't like to take.
02:08So I get it.
02:10But 178 and a half, I'm seeing 177s now, maybe even 176 and a half.
02:16So there is a little bit of under money coming here, but I wouldn't bet against Kaitlin Clark and Aaliyah
02:21Boston at home in this spot here.
02:25It is a nice number at six and a half, but I would only lay it if I was playing
02:30in this game.
02:31I'll back the Fever at home to keep it rolling.
02:34Should be a good game tonight.
02:35We also have Giants Braves back in some baseball action here.
02:40The Braves are minus 162 on the money line.
02:43Giants are plus 136.
02:45So let's wrap with this, Joe.
02:47Adrian Hauser for the Giants was one of their one-year deals in the offseason.
02:51It has not worked out.
02:53He is pitching rough.
02:54Total eight and a half tonight in Atlanta.
02:56No Acuna for the Braves.
02:59Yeah, and the Braves will be going through it, right?
03:01Once again, the White Sox kind of smacked them a little bit.
03:04They lost Acuna, and now all of a sudden, oh, they are slumping here a bit.
03:09But they do, I believe, get Drake Baldwin back in this game for them.
03:14That'll help the offense.
03:16And then you mentioned it.
03:17Hauser?
03:18Yeah, I'm going to take a team total over with Atlanta.
03:21I think the bats come alive here tonight for Atlanta, and they get it done, even with Holmes
03:26on the mound.
03:27The New York Mets had one of their typical nights last night.
03:31In case you missed it, they lost 12 to nothing to the Cincinnati Reds.
03:34It's been that kind of season.
03:35Things are even getting worse for them as they end up losing Christian Scott.
03:40They placed him on the injured list.
03:42He's one of two starters that are now on the injured list, along with Clay Holmes.
03:46Kodai Senga is expected to return tonight to take on the Reds.
03:50Carlos Mendoza weighed in on what we could see.
03:54Do you have a plan yet for tomorrow?
03:56We do.
03:57So Kodai Senga is going to start for us tomorrow, and he's going to be followed by Nolan McLean
04:02on Wednesday.
04:03Okay.
04:05What went into that decision, Senga?
04:08Well, I mean, we've been saying that we wanted to see results, which when, you know, we had
04:13his last outing.
04:14But with him, not only the result, but it's just how he feels after he pitches.
04:17We were waiting for him to throw his bullpen yesterday.
04:20He was scheduled to throw his bullpen yesterday in Citi Field, which he ended up throwing it.
04:23Felt good today.
04:24And then we decided to go with him.
04:26I mean, he's ready to go.
04:27He's telling us, you know, that he feels 100%.
04:31He was on board with, hey, if you guys want me to go in the minor leagues and pitch again,
04:36I'll do it.
04:36But I'm ready to compete at the big league level.
04:38So for him to be very vocal about it is a really good sign.
04:44Senga, as a rookie, Joe, looked like he was going to be around the league for a decade.
04:47And that turned out to be one more season because he ended up back in the minor leagues
04:51and he has not pitched well.
04:52The Reds are minus 158 tonight on the money line.
04:56And this is one of those, you know, two hand and pray things, I think, for the Mets, because
05:01they would just love to get Senga healthy, try to trade him.
05:04Even I don't think they probably can because of the money.
05:06But that's all they're hoping for at this point.
05:10Well, again, it doesn't help that they left the bases loaded with one out in the fourth,
05:15fifth and seventh inning last night, Craig.
05:18So, yeah, runners in scoring position, not a great night for the Mets.
05:23If they score runs and give them some support, they got a pretty good shot.
05:27But that's a big if.
05:28All they needed to do was hit three grand slams in that case to tie.
05:31We'll be back with more baseball headlines next.
05:34Don't go away.
05:34Welcome back to the early line.
05:36Real quick note here.
05:37We were speaking about the New York Mets.
05:38Christian Scott, one of their starting pitchers, placed on the IL yesterday.
05:42And then the corresponding move will just be to activate Kodai Senga.
05:45So Scott and Holmes, both on the IL for the Mets.
05:48Mets are probably, I would guess, in trade mode here coming up in the next month or so.
05:53But we'll see.
05:53I mean, you never know.
05:54I mean, Cleveland did win 10 games in a row last year to put themselves in the playoffs.
05:58So can't rule anything out.
06:00OK, we got injury news, Joe, on Spencer Strider.
06:03No surgery.
06:03So that's good news for him.
06:04He already had Tommy John surgery on his UCL and missed a full year.
06:08But he was pulled from Friday's start.
06:09His velo dropped to 88 miles an hour.
06:11So they said that he's got elbow inflammation four weeks and then a follow up.
06:16Then he can start throwing.
06:17Braves probably just saying to themselves, hey, if Spencer Strider can come back and throw
06:21some innings in the postseason, we'll take it.
06:23But obviously, his future, you know, certainly very cloudy as far as what you can project from
06:28him.
06:28The Braves go into every season.
06:30If he's not the ace, thinking he's the number two or maybe even the number three, I don't
06:33think you can do that anymore.
06:36No, I doesn't sound good.
06:39Doesn't look good.
06:40I mean, what I mean, how what else is there?
06:42I mean, a guy had what?
06:43UCLA UC UCL surgery had Tommy John already.
06:48I mean, how many more how many more times are we going to go through this?
06:53Now, we've seen guys, you know, power pitchers have to learn maybe how to be a go around it
06:58a little bit differently, but it doesn't look good for Strider.
07:02I wish him the best, but I don't know where he goes from here.
07:06Yeah, Schwellenbach's with Chauver.
07:08The Braves have had pitching injuries and seemingly battling through it.
07:11But Strider, this is this is a lot of them, too.
07:14OK, so the Cincinnati Reds look like they'll get Ellie de la Cruz back pretty soon.
07:19He's been on the injured list for a few weeks.
07:21He was hitting 280 with 12 home runs.
07:23Of course, he's one of the most dynamic players in baseball, participating in home run derby
07:27and all those fun things with the Reds.
07:29So maybe they'll get him back over the next week or two.
07:31We'll have to go on a rehab assignment to make sure that he can run.
07:34So don't think that that is coming this week.
07:36A very big suspension, Joe, in baseball.
07:38The reason why I mentioned this is because Padres reliever Ron Marinaccio has been suspended
07:44three games and Craig Stammen, the manager of the Padres, won game after baseball ruled
07:49that he threw at Gunnar Henderson in the ninth inning.
07:51It looked like they threw at him in the sixth inning, too, by the way.
07:53It looked like they were just going after him in that game.
07:55But Joe, you don't generally see relief pitchers given more than one game suspensions.
08:01Usually it's one like with a max of two.
08:03It's like the equivalent of giving a starter a five game.
08:06And then you just pitch on the sixth.
08:08But Marinaccio can't pitch for three straight days.
08:10So this is obviously intentional.
08:13Yeah.
08:14And I think they made it pretty obvious, too, that it was intentional there.
08:18And this was all because of the Xander Bogarts getting crushed earlier in the series there.
08:24So a little bit of retaliation going on.
08:27But listen, this is as old as the game, right?
08:30This kind of policing yourself thing.
08:32And they'll serve the suspensions.
08:34I doubt either regrets doing any of it because that's just how it works in baseball.
08:41The unwritten rules, Greg, right?
08:43They're alive and well in Major League Baseball.
08:46The St. Louis Cardinals this offseason traded a lot of players and traded a lot of all-stars.
08:51That included Brendan Donovan and maybe future Hall of Famer Nolan Arenado.
08:56And their attack this offseason, Joe, was just basically to hold court until about July
09:00and then trade everybody else because they're going nowhere.
09:03And that didn't work out.
09:05In fact, it worked out the other way.
09:07The Cardinals are in the mix.
09:08And they signed what I thought was a very curious player in the offseason, Joe, and Dustin May
09:13to a one-year contract.
09:15You know, a kid in L.A. who showed all the promise in the world in the postseason but
09:18just couldn't stay healthy.
09:19They signed him to a short one-year deal.
09:22I mean, Dustin May has been good, Joe, for the Cardinals.
09:24And I don't know that they're going to trade him in a month from now.
09:27What are they going to do?
09:28He had a perfect game going into the seventh inning.
09:31And then he gave up a hit to Tatis and Manny Machado.
09:33He ended up throwing, are you kidding me, a complete game, one-hit shutout.
09:38Dustin May, Joe, was that guy for L.A. that couldn't go five innings.
09:42They would start him.
09:43He'd go two or three.
09:44And he would come out of the game.
09:45He's still only 28 years old.
09:47But this kind of speaks to this strange Cardinals season where everything that can go right
09:53has gone right for them, including Dustin May.
09:57He struck out the side in the sixth and the eighth inning there, Craig.
10:02I mean, the ball is moving, shall we say.
10:05He's not overpowering, guys.
10:07But the location and the ball movement on his off speed has been tremendous.
10:13And he kept them, Craig, I'm talking, on edge.
10:17And let's face it, the Padres lineup has been struggling a little bit.
10:20But my goodness, to allow him to go nine, that was impressive, man.
10:26That might be one of the best outings we've seen from him in a very, very long time.
10:30Maybe ever, I would say.
10:31And he was great when he would come in the game.
10:34He's got that red hair flowing.
10:35Joe was striking out the side, remember, for innings at a time.
10:38But, you know, certainly I didn't see this coming, you know, for Dustin May.
10:48All right.
10:48Let's go to Joe Ranieri for his baseball pick of the day.
10:52Because, folks, we got some World Cup.
10:53And, of course, we got some WNBA.
10:55But Joe is focused on a baseball game tonight.
10:57Joe, who do you like?
10:59Yeah.
10:59And I'm, listen, you don't often get coal at this price point.
11:05But I do think that, listen, Davis Martin has been good.
11:08But Davis Martin's underlying metrics tell me there is some regression coming here at Yankee Stadium.
11:17I think the Yankees will open up with a win against the White Sox here today.
11:23And any time I can get coal under $1.60, I will take him at Yankee Stadium, no problem.
11:29All right.
11:30So, tonight, I am going to take a shot here at, I don't know what that was, Cody Bellinger of
11:38the New York Yankees.
11:39Two plus total bases at plus 125.
11:42That will be my pick tonight.
11:44I am red hot.
11:45All the research I've been putting in at 4 o'clock in the morning is working out.
11:48Either that or I'm dreaming and picking these games.
11:51I don't know how it's working, but it is.
11:52We'll be back with Prediction Market Edge coming up next.
11:55Make sure you stay with us here on Sports Grid as we have more to come right after this.
12:00Imagine being in the middle of June, Joe, and doing Prediction Markets and me telling you that Garrett Cole is
12:05pitching for the Yankees
12:06and the White Sox are getting 44% on the Prediction Markets today.
12:12That's because they just are taking everybody down, including the Dodgers.
12:1656% on the Yankees today.
12:18White Sox, 44%.
12:20Joe, I know that on the money line in the betting market, you like New York today.
12:24So, you know, certainly I know where your head is there on this.
12:27Yeah, and listen, I don't mind the under.
12:30I think this is going to be a bit of a pitcher's battle early.
12:36And Garrett Cole, I believe, has strikeouts.
12:38Also, five and a half is what we're looking at right now in the market.
12:43And would not shock me if at home, against a surging White Sox team,
12:50that maybe he drops it into another gear.
12:52I think the rust is starting to come off.
12:54I think Garrett Cole might be looking at a laddering up here in the strikeout prop tonight.
13:00Meanwhile, the Atlanta Braves, one of the best teams in baseball, will take on the San Francisco Giants.
13:06The Giants are on the road this week.
13:08This is a Giants team, Joe, that I am going to see this weekend here in South Florida.
13:12When the Marlins come back, they have a three-game series.
13:14So I got to be watching the Giants preparing for my weekend broadcast here.
13:20But the Braves right now, 59% of the tickets, Giants 41%.
13:23San Francisco this offseason, they went out, they signed Adrian Hauser to a one-year contract to fortify the rotation.
13:28And he hasn't done it.
13:29It's not like the Braves have an ace on the mound, but they have the better pitcher.
13:34Yeah, and not good.
13:35I mean, they've been slumping a little bit coming back down to earth, the Braves.
13:40And, yeah, it's going to be interesting here with the Giants coming to town.
13:45But, listen, Holmes has done a great job.
13:48You know, last year he had to be that arm out of the bullpen.
13:51They needed all those injuries to the starting pitching.
13:54He's actually done a pretty decent job being a mid-to-back-end rotation guy.
13:59And the way Atlanta hits, he's been able to rack up some wins.
14:03But they have not been hitting.
14:05They do get Drake Baldwin back.
14:07But I think that changes with Hauser.
14:09I think that he's exactly the kind of pitcher a slumping lineup wants to face in this spot at home.
14:15I think Atlanta, in a big way, gets it done tonight.
