Bicycling's Tom Messina gives his take on chain waxing.
Transcript
00:00If you already waxed your chain, what I'm going to talk about next will be no surprise to you.
00:04But if you're lubing your chain traditionally, it might seal the deal or convince you on all of the benefits.
00:12This chain, original to my bike, has 6,100 miles.
00:16And I measured it, measured the wear against a brand new chain and used multiple different chain wear tools.
00:24It's way, way within spec.
00:26Like, I'm talking 0.25% of the stretch indicator.
00:32It's practically brand new and it has 6,100 miles on it.
00:36So not only is it clean, because how could I ever hold a traditionally lube chain without a whole bunch
00:43of gunk on my hands?
00:44Not only is it clean, it can really save you a ton of money.
00:48Like, the investment into a wax chain system isn't maybe as much as people would think.
00:53And if you're on the fence, they do sell pre-waxed chains, which I think somebody who is already, like,
01:00invested in waxing their chain, buying a pre-waxed chain might be silly.
01:03But I do think it's perfect for people maybe curious into making the investment or, you know, buying the different
01:10lube or, like, the crock pot or all these other things.
01:12So 6,100 miles, practically brand new, and I'm just going to keep taking care of my wax chain.
