Bicycling's Tara Seplavy gives her take on the new clipless pedal options.
Transcript
00:00Clipless pedals are often a hot topic in cycling and I've seen a lot of comments and
00:05posts recently from people saying, hey, this off-season I want to learn how to ride clipless
00:09pedals.
00:10Now, when you think of clipless for the road, you usually think of these one-sided pedals.
00:15This has a three-bolt cleat that sits off the shoe.
00:18They're pretty hard to walk around in.
00:21The shoes are often really stiff too.
00:23Now there's another option, two-sided clipless pedals.
00:26These are generally used by mountain bikers, gravel riders, however, they work great on
00:33the road.
00:33And a recent offering in the category are these ones here by Wolftooth.
00:38Now, Wolftooth has three sizes.
00:40They have a slightly bigger one called the Control.
00:44They have this middle one called the Alt.
00:46Then they have a one-sided version called the Delete.
00:50Now what we like about these Wolftooth ones, aside from being available in cool colors,
00:54is they are machined in the US, they are fully serviceable and rebuildable, and they also
01:00have an adjustable Q factor.
01:01Now the great thing about having a two-sided, sometimes called SPD clipless pedal, if you're
01:09starting out with clipless, is the cleat and the interface with the shoe, it's recessed.
01:16So that way, you can walk around, you're not clicking and clacking around the coffee shop.
01:20It's great if you're taking stops, maybe you're going to have lunch during a ride.
01:24Also, because it's two-sided, it's really easy to click in, click out when you're learning
01:30how to ride clipless.
