Bicycling's Dan Chabanov gives his take on stock bottom brackets.
Transcript
00:00All right. So I get a lot of questions about upgrades. One of the ones that comes up a lot
00:04is, you know, super fancy bottom brackets, like from CeramicSpeed, Chris King, et cetera. There's
00:10a bunch out there. And honestly, for most riders, I tend to recommend the stock SRAM Dub or Shimano
00:18BSA bottom bracket. I think this one is between $30 and $40, similar with the SRAM version.
00:25They are surprisingly good. They're not going to spin quite as freely as a CeramicSpeed.
00:30They're not serviceable, but they tend to last a long time. I've gotten several years out of each
00:37of these, no issues. The main catch with the fancy bottom brackets is because they are serviceable,
00:46you have to service them. Meaning that, yes, you can get a lot of longevity out of them,
00:51but you have to put in the work versus these where you can get a couple of years out of
00:55them. And when they go bad, you just replace them.
