Bicycling's Dan Chabanov gives his take on the importance of using high quality tools.

00:00So this is a bit of a PSA on working on your bike and tools.
00:04There's this kind of age-old expression that basically any 20-minute repair job is just one strip bolt away
00:11from being a very expensive, very big problem.
00:17And I feel like a lot of times what people don't think about is the quality of the tools that
00:23they're using.
00:23Like, if you're using your leftover IKEA Allen wrenches on your carbon bike, you're probably going to ruin something on
00:33that bike.
00:34Whether it's a stripped bolt or just, like, a ruined fastener.
00:39Like, all of these problems come from using poor quality tools.
00:44And if you're going to work on your bike at home, which you don't have to.
00:48Like, you can take it to your local bike shop.
00:50Take it to your preferred mechanic.
00:52If that's your thing, that's totally fine.
00:55But if you're going to work on your bike at home, you should invest in quality tools.
01:00By comparison to bike prices these days, they are very affordable.
01:05Good quality tools will have better engagement.
01:08They'll ensure better service life for your parts.
01:11And the tools themselves will just last much, much longer.
01:15For the home mechanic, a high-quality set of, like, PB Swiss Allen keys will probably last you a lifetime.
01:21So, that's my PSA for today.
