00:00That's right, The Drive is live and we're live here on Radio Row and I have been, I walked around, Tyler, I was looking for Paige for you, I couldn't find her.
00:09Hadn't seen.
00:11Keep looking because I told Figgy last thing before we left Friday, I said, if you see Paige, I need a video, man.
00:17Oh, not even a picture.
00:18No.
00:19Do you want her jogging or something?
00:21No, I just wanted her to reaffirm her love for me and me being the number one producer in the world type of deal.
00:27That is a really good point, man.
00:29That is a really good point, T.
00:30I forgot that was part of it.
00:32I thought you wanted something.
00:33I did.
00:34I thought you were being a pervert, but you were just really wanting some personal love, huh?
00:38Yeah, yeah.
00:38I walked around.
00:39I like it.
00:39I walked around a couple of times and I was not able to spot her.
00:43Maybe Tuesdays and Wednesdays are her big day.
00:45I'm not sure.
00:46Maybe Thursdays are her big day.
00:47I got to believe she's got a real Wednesday vibe to her.
00:50The busiest day of the week.
00:52All day, yeah.
00:52Yeah, I just got to believe that is going to be the day that she'll come parading through here, T.
00:56Tyler Miller, you are the greatest producer in the world.
01:00That gal right there, she's got a real Wednesday vibe to her.
01:03When most eyeballs and most microphones are in the place, I would think.
01:07You're probably right.
01:08She ain't coming on no Monday.
01:10Have you ever watched her play?
01:11I mean.
01:12Golf?
01:13Yes.
01:13Well, yeah.
01:14I'm not sure where the ball lands, but yeah.
01:15Not sure where the ball lands, but the swing looks great.
01:19I'm serious.
01:20Well, she was pounding that ball off with that driver.
01:24I've watched.
01:24I got caught on TV watching.
01:27I did.
01:27I did.
01:27I was like, damn.
01:29She really is good.
01:30Just kind of just quit this and parlayed this into a more lucrative, potentially, deal
01:36to where she has the likes of Tyler Miller wanting her to perform.
01:40That is exactly right.
01:41But to profess how great of a producer that he is.
01:48All right, Clint.
01:50And at Tyler, 713-5724-610, YouTube and Twitch, you can jump on with us as we're looking at
01:57this.
01:59Clint, they had a deal where they kind of looked at two major players for the Texans that
02:06have the ability to get new contracts.
02:08And we knew this was coming from the first year that they were drafted.
02:13And then that ended with them both being Offensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Rookie of
02:18the Year.
02:19And you knew, whoop, all right, these two are probably going to be candidates to be signed
02:23long term.
02:25And ESPN predicts CJ Stroud, this offseason after year three where he's eligible to get
02:32in the new deal, could get a four-year, $224 million deal, $110 guaranteed, while Will
02:40Anderson Jr. could get four years, $176 million, $121 guaranteed.
02:46Let's start with Will.
02:47When you hear those numbers, you see that.
02:50Any reservations, anything other than, let's go ahead and get that done?
02:56I got zero reservations about anything that they pay Will Anderson.
02:59You can guarantee the whole damn contract for all I care.
03:02Love that money.
03:03Let's just say, hold on, guaranteed?
03:05You can guarantee the whole damn contract.
03:08I'm just going to tell you, there's not, you know, I don't know that I've.
03:11Just get it done with Will.
03:12Well, I just don't know, Ron, that I've covered or played with, you know, a more convincing
03:20pay the guy, whatever you got, you have to, to, to keep him.
03:24I don't, I don't know that I've ever been around a guy that was, that's more, more convincing
03:29from, I mean, literally the, the play obviously is, is where it all starts.
03:33If he, if he wasn't as good a player as he is, then nobody would give a rip about the
03:36rest.
03:37Right.
03:37But when you, again, I talked about it before.
03:39I mean, to me, this is a JJ Watt type player.
03:41You want to, you want to pay him to keep him here in contract too.
03:45You want him to be a lifelong career long Texan.
03:47And, and if you, if you're able to make that make sense, that you're going to be able to
03:51build around a guy that is exactly what you want to build around as you try to try to keep
03:56this thing together.
03:57And so, yeah, I mean, I don't care what it takes to keep Will Anderson in the building.
04:00That's that, I mean, whatever the, the, the, you know, whatever they're, they're claiming
04:06it's, it's going to take, do it as quickly as you possibly can.
04:10Besides Kamari Lasseter, it's hard to find a player or a person that fit every single
04:17piece of everything that they want to be about than Will Anderson.
04:21Correct.
04:21Like, and, and when you combine that with, he is all likelihood going to finish second
04:28in the NBA defensive player of the year award race to Miles Garrett, who's had a great season
04:33that you combine all of that, everything that they want him to be.
04:38And he's, you know, in his early twenties, like that, that one is, it just seems too easy.
04:43Well, it's the thing is, is it's, he has convinced everybody in the building that matters, right?
04:50I mean, if, if your ownership, you're like, how quickly can I write this check?
04:54And because you, not only do you have a great player, not only do you have a guy you can
04:58build around, but you have a guy that is unbelievably coachable, right?
05:02I mean, he, he literally, and, and, and like genuinely and sincerely is what you, as a coach,
05:07you would want every player to be like is put blinders on.
05:10Let me coach you, you go out and bust your ass every day and then watch the results happen.
05:15And, and so, I mean, at every level of the organization, he's a guy that, that you are
05:19100% convinced that he needs to be here long-term.
05:24What the other one, the real one is the easy one.
05:27What about CJ Stroud, four years, 224, 110 guarantee?
05:30I can't do it.
05:31I can't do it right now.
05:33Now, look, there's, there's, there's several scenarios that could happen here, right?
05:36I mean, some, some likely, some very unlikely, they could, they could move on from CJ Stroud.
05:42They could, they could see another year of CJ Stroud and, or they could, they could pay
05:47CJ Stroud right now.
05:49And, and I've got to, I've got to at the very least see another year from CJ Stroud.
05:55I mean, you're talking about, if you're D'Amico Ryans and you're trying to win a Super Bowl title
06:00and you're trying to do it in, in, in your, in your fashion, you know, to some degree
06:07outside of the system, to some degree on the offensive side of the football, you're going
06:10to have to defer to play in a certain risk-free type of, type of offense.
06:14And that starts with your quarterback.
06:15And, you know, CJ is going to have to buy into that kind of deal.
06:18And, and regardless of what the scheme is, he's going to have to buy into that here in,
06:22in Houston.
06:23And so I've, I've got to be a little more convinced that he's ready to do that.
06:26And it's probably going to take another year to see that.
06:28Yeah, I, the numbers aren't bad for, you know, quarterback at this, you know, where
06:36that would slide.
06:37These, you know, crazy numbers, but when you sign somebody and you commit like that, you
06:42want to, you want to feel like, all right, I want to commit to this person and I want
06:47to see us get the best that we can out of this person.
06:49Like I'm going to commit these years, this money, and I want to see you get the best out
06:53of this person.
06:55And I just don't know how that's possible here.
06:58Like right now with, with what is constructed around him, that they can get the best out
07:03of it.
07:04And, and I think it comes from many different ways, anything from him, from the system he's
07:10in, from the, from the way they want to go about things, their, their strategy of how
07:16they want to win games, how they want to use him.
07:19Like, I, I think right now they're there.
07:23If they go with him in a long-term point, they're getting like the, the, the, all right,
07:31not the best that he can be.
07:33They're, they're, they're not going to be paying for that.
07:35And that, and that, that would, would make, well, I think that's, I think that's part of
07:40the, the conversation too, is, is given the system and what they want to do and what they're
07:45committed to do.
07:46And at least at this point, you know, do, do, is it, is it part formula drop 56 a year
07:51on a quarterback?
07:52You know, I, I don't know.
07:54I don't, I don't know.
07:55I mean, that's just that, that there, there's a risk and a reward there.
07:58And I just don't know if that's, if that's necessarily the case.
08:01And so again, like we said last week, I don't know from the organization's perspective, as
08:06well as the player's perspective, I think both camps could have, could have more than
08:10enough reason to say, Hey man, let's part ways.
08:12I see where both camps could say, Hey, let's stay together and I want to see another year.
08:16But I, I just can't see, I can't see painting 56 right now.
08:19I've got to at least see another year.
08:21You had a text line coming in, uh, Mola get up, must've paid someone at ESPN to write
08:27that trash.
08:28Maybe, uh, uh, I don't mind us using more cap space on a quarterback that can carry the
08:34team, but outside of one year, he hasn't shown it.
08:38Um, but again, for me is I like, if you're, if, if this is like, this is the plan moving
08:45forward and the plan moving forward is this is the route we're going to go about it.
08:49And just the hope that he can perfect this thing and not really play to his, not, not
08:58really try to use his, his seat, but just to perfect this.
09:01And I, I think there is a real argument that you tried to make of, well, if, if this is
09:07the way they're going to play offense to, then is there a Sam Darnold out there?
09:12Um, yeah, yeah.
09:13I mean, is there a, is there somebody else out there that is, that that's not, that's
09:20cheaper or the, or to their ceiling is what you're looking for.
09:23Well, the, the beauty of it.
09:23And it, to me, this is, this is when you get into the conversation, I hate, as you're not,
09:28you know, we've talked about before.
09:29I hate the, and I know it's a reality, but I hate it.
09:32The, the next man up, boy, he's a good player.
09:35We got to, we got to set the market or we got to pay him 56.
09:37Like, I hate that approach.
09:39I have a really hard time wrapping my head around it.
09:40Like in, in this, in the world that Texans are living in, if you're D'Amico Ryans, like
09:45the best case scenario would be to have a quarterback that would 100% buy into what you're doing and
09:50execute this offense flawlessly.
09:52But that guy also has an extremely high ceiling that when you need to get outside your comfort
09:56zone and you need to go into attack mode, you've got a guy that does that at an elite
10:00level, you know, that, that is, that is where you decide, okay, I'd pay that guy $56 million
10:05and it's a no brainer and let's go.
10:07Right.
10:08You don't have that.
10:09All that right now is not play in Houston.
10:11The question is, is how convinced is, is D'Amico Ryans that that's part of the future with
10:17CJ Stroud?
10:18Can that happen?
10:19Can they get there given what they've already seen?
10:22I think that's the, the, the, the piece here that's, that's left to, to be decided.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Someone said, uh, uh, we do have Davis, Davis Mills.
10:32Can he be the Sam Darnold in this situation?
10:37Well, I mean, the, the, the, the reality of it is, you can have that one.
10:41It will.
10:41I mean, it's the reality of it is if you're, if, if you want a guy that's going to be super
10:45even keel to a point where your team's going to respond well to it.
10:48And if you want a guy that's going to be super, um, uh, coachable and play within the system
10:54and never even have urges to get outside the system, uh, and, but doesn't quite have that
10:59high ceiling that if the game is on his shoulders, all of a sudden he can go out there and make
11:02these crazy throws.
11:03And I'm talking about relative to other NFL quarterbacks.
11:06I know Davis is obviously talented.
11:07We saw him do it this year against one team, but we all understand that CJ's just ability
11:12to pass the football.
11:13His ceiling is, is higher.
11:14Um, you know, is the formula to win in Houston, is it more of a quarterback that is overly
11:22committed to the system, but doesn't quite have the ceiling?
11:26Or is it a guy that you struggle with committing to the system and, and the mindset that they
11:31want him to have, but yeah, every now and then he's, his high ceiling is going to show
11:35up in a major, major way.
11:36And you hope it's on the big stage, you know, what, what fits better.
11:39I do think that's a more real conversation than I think most would, would entertain, um,
11:44whether it's Davis meals or it's, it's somebody else to say, like you said, Sam Darnold or
11:48somebody else that, that is considered to be a, a lower tier quarterback than CJ.
11:53I want the, uh, I want the talent and the ability, uh, especially when it's the talent and the
12:01ability that has shown, uh, an extended period of greatness.
12:05That, that, that, that would be hard for me to, to move over and then say, I'm going
12:11to go somewhere like a Davis meals.
12:13But I know people, there are people who believe like he is, he is, he is the one that's there
12:19that could be what they're, but the key is, is, is, is, you know, what are you going to
12:23do with that talent?
12:24You can have a guy that's uberly talented, but if you're going to handcuff it or you're,
12:27it's not going to, you're not going to play to that as, as, as, you know, Nick Casario
12:31said, we're, we're, we, this is about a team.
12:33We're not going to build around one guy basically, um, if that's the approach, then
12:36that, that, a Davis meals type of dude makes more sense or a journeyman quarterback makes
12:41more sense.
12:41Right.
12:41That's why I said that that's based on why, like, I don't know that I would do it because
12:45you're like, I, if I pay somebody like that, like my whole thing is, let me see if I get
12:51the best out of that player.
12:52Right.
12:52Right.
