00:00As we're doing with all our guests, we are not going to get duped again.
00:03We got duped last year.
00:05We conducted about a two-question interview with a fake Stefan Diggs.
00:12Go ahead, you can laugh.
00:14Two questions through.
00:15He turned out to be a safety for Vanderbilt.
00:19It's all right.
00:20Yeah, it's all right.
00:22You know they got that social media nowadays, right?
00:24You can see guys.
00:25Yeah, we covered him, too.
00:27Everybody saw it.
00:28Everybody saw it.
00:30Yeah, so I'm doing test questions.
00:32I want to make sure I'm talking to the person I'm talking to.
00:36All right, so you've been involved in wrestling a little bit.
00:39Yep.
00:39All right, you were involved in TNA.
00:41You turned on a, if this is a real Sean Merriman,
00:45you turned on a popular wrestler these days.
00:49Who is it that you turned on?
00:50Joe Hendry.
00:51All right, there we go.
00:51We got it.
00:52We got the real Sean Merriman.
00:55See, I don't think fake Diggs would have had that.
00:56No, no, he didn't.
00:57Fake Diggs.
00:58Fake Diggs didn't even know which knee was hurt.
01:00Yeah, he didn't know he had an ACL injury.
01:02Just running this full sprint up and down the aisle, huh?
01:05Yeah.
01:08All right, man, we appreciate you jumping in.
01:10It's good to talk to you because we just, here in Houston,
01:14we just witnessed the best defense that this organization has ever had.
01:20And a real shame, that's the biggest disappointment with the fan base is it feels like that defense has gotten wasted
01:28and won't be talked about like some of the great defenses, and it feels like they were there.
01:33You watched that, and I'm sure you've seen this team.
01:35What were your thoughts about what you saw from the Texas defense?
01:38Well, I'll tell you this, you know, I got a call.
01:42It was a writer for the University of Maryland.
01:44He ended up going to Alabama.
01:46And he called me out to Blue one day.
01:48He said, Sean, I got this kid out here that reminds me a lot of you.
01:52And I'm like, dude, I've heard that many a times.
01:54You know what you're talking about.
01:55I said, no, man, like just like how you came in, a little lighter, struggling to play the run because he's not big enough yet.
02:01But his pass rush, he's the best out here.
02:04I later found out that this kid was Will Anderson.
02:07And I started watching Will since college.
02:12And I said, this dude's going to be a superstar.
02:15And he turned out to be just that.
02:16And you look at, you know, Hunter's grade.
02:21I mean, they got bona fide players.
02:24D'Amico Ryan doesn't get enough credit by putting those guys in position to make plays for what their strengths are.
02:29And I played for a great defense coordinator, Wade Phillips.
02:33Wade was like, look, you're going to do 80% of what you're great at doing and 20% what you're not.
02:38And that's the philosophy that D'Amico Ryan's established in him.
02:43And it was, I don't know if it was the first or the second game, but they had a clip of D'Amico.
02:48And this is why having players with a player mindset as coaches that can be really good coaches.
02:53They had a slow clip, but just reading his lips, he said, wear him down.
02:57Wear him down.
02:58And that's a player's mentality because a team could be better than you, talent-wise.
03:03But when you're going out there and you're just gashing a run and you're hitting them in the mouth,
03:07and it's a mentality that D'Amico Ryan has established in that entire organization.
03:14And as you said, it's frustrating as a defense.
03:18And I don't want to take shots at C.J. Stroud at all.
03:21And you went right to the source, didn't you?
03:23They need him.
03:25He needs to be more consistent.
03:27That's all.
03:27He needs to be more consistent.
03:29And then when he makes mistakes, forget about them and move on to the next play because it seems like he's just in the slump after he does something wrong.
03:36But, yeah, man, that defense, if they would have been playing in this game, they would have went down as one of the best defenses to play in the last decade or so.
03:48Yeah.
03:48Sean, when I watch that defense, man, and I've watched a lot playing and covering the game, college and pro.
03:54I don't know that I've ever seen a defense, Sean, that swarmed the way that this particular – they use the term – they use the phrase swarm, right?
04:03I don't know that I've ever seen the 11 guys all the time, all year long, swarming the way that this defense does, man.
04:12It's so demoralizing.
04:13Yeah.
04:14Because when you do that, you put that on film.
04:17Yeah.
04:17And offenses may not say it publicly, but all of them sitting back looking like, man, look at number such and so.
04:24Now you've got somebody bringing him down, he gets loose, and somebody hitting you right in the mouth.
04:28I mean, it is demoralizing you put that on film because everybody knows they've got to strap it up.
04:33Yeah.
04:33You know, they've got to strap it up.
04:34And they can get over the hump, but they won't get over the hump unless they get consistency out of CJ.
04:41And he's more than capable of doing it because we've seen it.
04:44He had a couple – when he had the – you know, he dropped the snap, right, and was a shotgun.
04:49He came back and threw a dart like a play or two later.
04:53So, he's more than capable of doing it, but he needs to get his head into the game after he makes mistakes
04:58because mistakes is part of the game.
05:01What's fair – because let's shift gears to CJ Stroud because you're right.
05:05I mean, you're nailing the head.
05:06I mean, just in terms of being consistent and the body language and the moping and all that kind of stuff after a bad play.
05:12And, you know, what – I argue with folks on the air all the time in the radio business like, hey, man, it's year three.
05:18This ain't, you know, 1995 when they – you know, these quarterbacks, they get all these second chances.
05:25They sit around, they groom them, they develop them.
05:27I mean, they expect immediate – you know, what do you think is a fair year to go, okay, hey, man, this is – it's make it or break it type situation.
05:34Well, it's now.
05:36Yeah.
05:36It's now because they got a choice to make soon on his contract.
05:40Yeah, absolutely.
05:40And whether he's going to get, you know, 30 million EO 60 or whatever that number is.
05:45I mean, and it's a fair question because you got all the tools there to win.
05:50So the defense we know ain't the problem.
05:52They stepped up and made plays on special teams.
05:54So where's the problem?
05:56They – when they're running the ball well, they're one of the best running teams in the NFL when they're running the ball well.
06:01So where's the problem?
06:03And you have to just be honest about where the problem is.
06:06And I'm not pointing everything at C.J., but if he wasn't capable, then it would be no big deal.
06:12But he is.
06:13And that's the most frustrating part about that team is they have a capable quarterback who can go out and win football games, but you need him to be consistent.
06:21This is interesting, Sean.
06:23Clint obviously played and has been in the position of C.J. in college and in the NFL.
06:29And he said he's out.
06:31Clint said he's out.
06:33He doesn't see C.J. having what it needs and what it takes to be able to lead.
06:39Are you there?
06:40Are you at a place?
06:41Because you said $30 million to $60 million, and you know that means – $30 million to $60 million means you can keep that defense together at $30 million.
06:49At $60 million, then you've got to start making decisions.
06:51Where are you at on C.J. Stroud?
06:52I don't have him in that $60 million-a-year range.
06:56I don't have him at that caliber because that puts him in the caliber of who?
06:59The top five.
07:00I don't have him there.
07:03And he's going to have to make a decision on what he thinks he's worth and what he's going to take.
07:10And what just happened towards the end is he didn't help his case in getting $60 million a year.
07:15Hell no, he didn't.
07:16Yeah, he didn't help his case.
07:17And so his agent's going to have a hard time trying to go and battle to get him.
07:22Is he in the $40 million?
07:24Probably.
07:25When you start getting up there to that $55 million, $60 million a year, you're putting yourself in an upper echelon of the top five quarterbacks in the National Football League.
07:34He's just not there.
07:35Well, I tell you, Moola Guetta's going to hunt for that $55 million to $60 million.
07:38That's for damn sure.
07:38Oh, for sure.
07:39He don't want to hear that third.
07:39They gave $2 of $50 million.
07:43Hey, tell us what you're up to, man.
07:45I know you've got a ton of stuff going on.
07:48You know, I mean, it seems like every year your portfolio just grows, man.
07:51What you got going on?
07:52Lights Out Extreme Fight.
07:53We just signed a deal with ESPN Latin America, which is huge for us because, you know, obviously football in the States is always going to be king.
08:02But when you start getting outside the States, it's two things.
08:05It's soccer and it's combat sports, mainly MMA.
08:07Yeah.
08:08And so to be global now is a big deal for us because, you know, UFC went over to Paramount from ESPN.
08:14And so now being able to slide into some of these places and fulfill that content that UFC left, it's a great start for where we ultimately want to go.
08:25And playing in the NFL, I think we're all, you know, fortunate because you've seen it at the highest level.
08:30You know what it looks like at Sunday night football games and Monday night football games.
08:33You're coming out and there's cameras and there's smoke and there's lights and there's production.
08:36And, you know, so I had a good base in how to build a product.
08:41And we built something special.
08:43So, yeah, that's good stuff, man.
08:45What year is this for you with lights out?
08:47We launched in 2019, two years off of the pandemic, started back up in 2023.
08:52So I would say about three.
08:53Yes.
08:54All right, man.
08:54We appreciate you jumping on with us, man.
08:56All right, brother.
08:56Appreciate it.
08:56Thanks for having me.
08:57You got a big schedule.
08:58But we thank you for taking the time.
08:59Thanks, man.
09:00That's Sean Merriman, all pro, former Charger and played in the league for years.
09:07He had some stuff to say about CJ, didn't he?
09:09Well, I mean, look, you're going to find most folks that are going to keep it a buck
09:13are probably going to at least say, hey, man, you know, something's got to give.
09:17Something's got to be better.
09:17Something's got to change.
09:18I just love it from a defensive player's mindset.
09:21You can see in his eyes like, damn.
09:24Like, don't do that to us.
09:27Like, hey, man, we holding it down like we are here.
09:30And you can tell it's just like there's frustration.
09:34Like, he's like, nah, man, it seems like he's probably closer to where you maybe are.
09:40Well, I mean, it's just – it's time, man.
09:42I mean, you can't – again, this – we're not – we're talking about the biggest stage,
09:45the brightest lights, and we're not just talking about, you know, falling on the ball
09:49and turning it over, you know, like I did against Tennessee.
09:51You're talking about turning it over four times in one half like I did against the Giants.
09:56And I never touched the field again.
09:57So, yeah, I mean, it's a – it's big stage, bright lights are going to define you
10:02when you get to one point in your career, and he's there.
10:05And so, yeah, most folks that are being honest and keeping it a buck are going to have a –
10:09you know, it's not going to be positive at all – you know, it's going to be tough criticism.
10:14But that's where he is, and that's how you get to a new haircut.
10:18I don't know.
10:19Is he there?
10:20It's real, Clint.
10:21This is – you're like doing this like the Belichick.
10:24Well, I haven't researched it beyond the one picture it looks like with some fans.
10:28I don't know.
10:28I mean, we're – I don't think it's – I would be – well, I'm going to be honest with you.
10:32Like I said, if that picture is real, I'm as disappointed – I'm more – I don't mind the haircut.
10:38I am disappointed in a sweater.
10:41I think it's like a logo.
10:43I don't care.
10:44It looks like it was knitted by my grandmother, and it's got buttons on it that are –
10:49I'm going to be honest.
10:50I'm going to be on top of that Diet Coke you got right there.
10:51I'm going to be honest.
10:51I think you'd be disappointed for several of his outfits.
10:57I hear there's rumors on the internets.
11:00No, I'm very – I'm very – I have been.
11:03Like I'm fashion forward.
11:04I know you're fashion forward.
11:05I can't get away with it.
11:06I can't – I don't personally get away with it.
11:08I stay in my lane, but I can get down with it.
11:10I think for you, you've got to see the whole outfit.
11:11Maybe the whole outfit tells the story.
11:13It – it's what you're doing.
11:14And so –
11:19You're going to be experi-
11:25I guess the whole outfit you want to get down with it.
