Seth and Sean talk about the biggest story in Houston sports right now: CJ Stroud getting a haircut. Does it give them hope or is asking that a stupid question?
Transcript
00:00And interspersed throughout our day, because we all had our phones, were push notifications about the most important topic going on right now in Houston sports.
00:10C.J. Stroud's hair.
00:11Yeah.
00:11This is the biggest topic in Houston sports.
00:14You first saw something from Houston's stressons with a picture of C.J. and a couple of people, which eventually turned out to be the people who cut his hair.
00:21Yeah.
00:22But it looked like something from his freshman year at Ohio State.
00:25There was a lot of AI speculation going on.
00:27Yeah.
00:28Yeah.
00:28And he looks, because you haven't seen him without that hair since he was a freshman at Ohio State.
00:32Right.
00:33It just, he looks very young without it.
00:36And I don't, man, I was talking about it with you this morning.
00:41I was like, this is stupid.
00:43But I know we're going to end up talking about this for like half the show today.
00:46And here we are.
00:49No, I know.
00:49Because I can't help it.
00:51I'm admitting that it's stupid.
00:52But there's something about this.
00:55This is my angle on it.
00:57From the athlete's perspective, I had long hair my senior year in college, or like long by my standards.
01:01Yeah.
01:02Spent all summer growing it and everything.
01:04It's beautiful.
01:04Nice and wavy.
01:05The girls loved it.
01:06I'll bet.
01:07I had kind of a substandard game, my second or third game of the season.
01:12Cut it all off.
01:12Yeah.
01:13Buzzed it.
01:13Yeah.
01:14I'm like, man, I'm a soft wimp.
01:15Okay.
01:16Look at me.
01:16Look at me.
01:17Look at me.
01:17I'm a, oh, you're a little fancy boy with your curly hair.
01:21Yeah.
01:21I cut it all off.
01:22And?
01:23And I wonder if C.J. was a little bit.
01:24What happened after that?
01:26I destroyed the world.
01:27Yeah.
01:27Yeah.
01:28Well, you went on to get drafted into the NFL.
01:30Yeah.
01:30I mean, I would have anyway.
01:31But still, I think there is something about.
01:33Yeah.
01:33Let's stick with the narrative here.
01:35Right, right, right.
01:35No, no, no, no.
01:36I think just psychologically, I wonder if there is a little bit of that with C.J.
01:40of almost like, you know what?
01:41A thousand percent.
01:42Yeah, like, all right, a big change.
01:44People say that when people change their hair or something, sometimes it's a sign of them
01:48going through something psychologically.
01:50C.J.
01:51Stroud's performance in that Patriots game, and I'll add the Steeler game, but really the
01:54Patriots game with the four interceptions in the first half, his mood, his dour mood around
02:01that whole game, and the constant reading of body language and facial expression that
02:06really has gone on for the better part of two years now, not just two games in the postseason,
02:10has been the biggest story with this team.
02:13So him cutting his hair is, if it is part and parcel of this, some sort of mental shift
02:22with him, or some symbolic move into an offseason where he's reassessing everything he's doing,
02:28this matters.
02:29I mean, I know what you're saying, like, it's a silly thing to get emotional, but people
02:34are emotional about C.J.
02:35Stroud right now.
02:36Well, listen, if I'm going to trust one person when it comes to Houston Texans, it's C.J.
02:41Stroud's personal barber, Case McGee, who...
02:43Is that his name?
02:44Yeah, he moved here to Houston before the 2024 season.
02:48So I've...
02:49It feels like a name where, it feels like a name you'd say to somebody, like, it feels like,
02:53you know what it feels like?
02:54It feels like a name that you would give to, like, a lawyer.
02:57Yeah.
02:57Like, almost a disparaging name.
02:59I'm like, hey, I got Case McGee over here.
03:01I got Case McCase face over on the job.
03:04Don't worry about it.
03:05Case face McGee over here.
03:06Okay.
03:06So listen, this is very telling.
03:09Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:09Final line of Matt Young's article about this, which I'm guessing is one of the top trending
03:14stories in the Houston Chronicle.
03:16Trust me, McGee said, you're going to see a different guy.
03:19Oh, we got some football in now.
03:20Which is, wait a second, acknowledgement from the personal barber to CJ Stroud that we need
03:25to see a different guy.
03:26Yeah.
03:27That's, like, again, I'm not joking.
03:29That's actually relevant to me.
03:31I feel like, yeah.
03:33No, we all feel stupid for doing what we're doing right now.
03:35But CJ, by way of his barber, is acknowledging that he needs to be a different guy.
03:40And maybe by cutting the hair a little bit and keeping it high and tight, a little bit
03:44more boring.
03:45Yeah.
03:45And it's all about business in 2026.
03:48Yeah, well, he, CJ, after the Steeler game, the Steeler game on Monday night, where he
03:58fumbled the ball five times, Clint and I are watching that thing up at the studio, getting
04:01ready for the postgame show.
04:02I said, you know what?
04:03We were trying to guess what CJ was going to say in the postgame, because they won the
04:06game, but he was bad in that game.
04:08He had a few good throws, but overall, his performance wasn't great.
04:11He did more to keep Pittsburgh in that game than Pittsburgh out of that game.
04:14The defense did the heavy lifting in that game.
04:16And I said to Clint, I said, you know what?
04:18I think he's going to admit that he had a really bad game.
04:20And he did not.
04:21He did not.
04:22I know.
04:23He thought he played all right.
04:24You know, I dropped the ball a bunch of times.
04:26Focus on the positive.
04:27Yeah.
04:27No, it's like CJ has had bad game.
04:30He had a horrible game against the Patriots.
04:32And I think there was an element to people that are like, we need you to act like you
04:37were worse than you're acting right now.
04:39If, if, what's his name again?
04:41Case, Case, Case, Case, Case, Case, Case, Case, Case, Case, Case, if indeed what he is saying
04:47is proof that CJ is acknowledging that there needs to be, and CJ's not a dummy.
04:52He knows he needs to play better than he did in those two games.
04:54But if he's been openly talking about it with the guy who just shaved all his hair off, I'm
04:58willing to cling to that for now.
05:00We got nothing else.
05:01OTAs aren't for another three months.
05:02He is at a Tony Romo point in his career where that game was the equivalent of Tony Romo
05:08botching the, the holding duty on the, on the, on the field goal kick.
05:12Yes.
05:13You know, it's like, okay, you gotta, you can go one of two ways from here.
05:16Actually, you can only go one way.
05:18You can either stay put where you are in the cellar or you can ascend upwards.
05:23Yeah.
05:23And let's make some changes and figure it out.
05:26So this never happens again in the playoffs.
05:28So the, the QB face now is a thing.
05:32CJ's got a different look now with the hair.
05:33The hair affects the face.
05:35Yes.
05:35And you know, this is a, this is a show.
05:37I don't want to speak for both of us, but I, but you know, you know, I, I cling greatly
05:41to the look of a guy's face, especially my quarter.
05:44It's a, no, we are, this is a show that sits on the pillars of, of science.
05:50This has been proven in studies that there's a correlation between a quarterback's face and
05:56winning.
05:56Yes.
05:56And you know, CJ doesn't have a classic quarterback face.
05:59He doesn't necessarily have a, he doesn't have a, he's got a boyish face to it.
06:04He does.
06:04He does.
06:04Some quarterbacks grow into their face.
06:06Sam Darnold, I think very much grew into his face.
06:08He did.
06:09He used to have a, he used to have the face of a quarterback that would not make it in
06:13the NFL, but he lost some of that baby fat.
06:15He grew a beard.
06:16Yep.
06:16He's got a nice haircut now.
06:18Yeah.
06:18And he looks more like a, he looks like a bonafide quarterback.
06:20Kevin O'Connell and Clint Kubiak.
06:22I think Matt Stafford grew into his face.
06:24No doubt.
06:24A lot of people like to blame all of his trials and tribulations on the lion's organization.
06:28Or out of his face.
06:28You know what I mean?
06:29Like he slimmed it down.
06:30Yeah.
06:30Yeah.
06:31I think so.
06:31CJ is a guy who's still growing into his quarterback face.
06:34He did look, you know, in the draft, one of the things I worried about with him is that
06:38he, in press conferences and in general, he looked like a child who was lost at the mall.
06:43Yeah.
06:43And was looking to find his mother.
06:45You know, like hiding, hiding in a clothes rack or something because he was terrified and
06:51didn't know what to do.
06:52Yeah.
06:52And I think at times during the playoffs, that's how he looked.
06:54He definitely looked that way in the playoffs.
06:55Yeah.
06:56Yes, he did.
06:57He did.
06:58All right.
06:58So that's the, uh, he doesn't, he looks more like a kid now without the hair.
07:03Oh, yeah.
07:03Yeah.
07:04Yeah.
07:04To the point where I even thought like the videos, because there is video out there
07:07of him getting the hair shaved off.
07:08Yeah.
07:09Like he chronicled it to the point where I thought that might have been AI.
07:12I'm like, that's not, that's not 2025 CJ or 26 CJ right there.
07:17Definitely.
07:17If he's, if he, you know, those videos you see where like men shave their beard off and
07:22then they walk in and their kids don't recognize them.
07:24Yeah.
07:24Yeah.
07:25Girls are scared of them and everything.
07:26I could, if he, if he did that with his little nieces and nephews or cousins or something,
07:30they probably wouldn't recognize him right now.
07:33That's, um, did you, uh, I didn't watch any of the pro bowl games last night, except for
07:38what was on in the place that you, me and Clint and Aaron went to eat.
07:41Startlingly unprofessional of you.
07:42Yeah.
07:43Um, so it was a high scoring seven on seven game.
07:45The funny thing, the video that got algorithm to me, um, was, uh, Aziz Al-Shair basically
07:51clotheslining Jameer Gibbs.
07:52I saw, I was, I saw the, who was it?
07:54Jameer Gibbs.
07:55I saw Gibbs on the sideline looking shook up.
07:57I thought you guys were joking because my back was to the TV.
08:00Yeah.
08:00Yeah.
08:01You were like, yeah, Aziz just laid that guy out.
08:03He's a clothesline guy.
08:03Yeah.
08:04And I look up and, and they show Gibbs on the sideline.
08:07It was, looked like his face was all, uh, roughed up.
08:10Yeah.
08:10I mean, it wasn't like a, it wasn't like a, you know, an NFL on Sundays kind of clothesline.
08:14But for a, for a seven on seven, uh, exhibition game that nobody really cares about the outcome
08:20for, very swarmy.
08:21It's kind of like when you used to play two hand touch and it got a little aggressive.
08:23Yes.
08:24It turns into two hand shove.
08:25Yeah, man.
08:26Yeah.
08:26Good for him.
08:27Yeah.
08:27Good job.
08:28Good for Aziz.
08:29Yep.
08:29So, um, so there you go.
08:31We're off and running.
08:32Big thanks to, uh, LaCore 43, uh, Planet Fitness getting us here as well.
08:36Uh, all of you streaming.
08:38If you're up early with us, we really thank you for that.
08:40Um, and that's the Mokaram Injury Lawyers live stream that you're watching on.
08:44And of course, Tide, Seth is not giving up that oxy boost container to anybody.
08:48It's got little handles on it and it feels.
08:50Are you just realizing that?
08:50It feels like a.
08:51It's like you're carrying a baby around.
08:52It feels like a plate, like a weight, a weight room plate.
08:55You're going to do.
08:55Like I got.
08:56Or a shoulder raises.
08:58Or a Simba hold up there.
08:59You can hold it up.
08:59I can hold it up like Simba.
09:01Like your baby.
09:01Yeah.
09:01Yeah.
09:02Yeah.
09:02Yeah.
09:02Yeah.
09:03Yeah.
09:04Yeah.
09:04Yeah.
09:04Yeah.
09:05Yeah.
09:09Yeah.
09:18Yeah.
09:20Yeah.
09:20Yeah.
09:22Yeah.
09:29Europe.
09:29Hey there.
