29 January - National evening forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there, yet more rain on the way for many parts of the United Kingdom.
00:05Especially those areas where we don't need more wet weather.
00:10Overnight for South West England, Wales, Northern Ireland, not as much as storm.
00:15Chandra, but not welcome news anyway, could be further localised impacts.
00:20Supplies flooding, transport disruption by the start of Friday.
00:23The worst of the rain does clear through.
00:25Overnight, but as it bumps into colder air further north and east, it will turn to snow in places.
00:30Mostly we're thinking falling snow above around 100-200 metres for North Wales.
00:35Southern England to Southern Scotland, settling snow above 300-400 metres.
00:40We've still got the snow coming down across the Grampians, rain at lower levels.
00:45Persistent showery precipitation coming into the north-east of Scotland.
00:48One place where it stays.
00:50Drier and clearer, North West Scotland once again avoiding the wet and warm.
00:55windier weather that we've got elsewhere.
00:56It will be a blustery night for many places.
01:00We've got the cloud.
01:01We've got the rain moving in.
01:02A cold start on Friday, but generally frost free even if we do.
01:05We'll have that snow covering the hills.
01:08Now, low pressure.
01:10Still with us.
01:11Still taking a south shifted track and running along.
01:15We'll be on the channel during Friday into Saturday as well.
01:18So, it's going to remain unsettling.
01:20It's going to remain unsettled throughout Friday.
01:21An unpleasant day, I think, for many with the initial...
01:25Snow turning back to rain at many places.
01:28Snow confined to 300-400 metres.
01:30Or higher across northern England into Scotland.
01:33Drier for a time, Northern Ireland, parts of Australia.
01:35Wales into the Midlands.
01:36The south east.
01:37Even some sunshine coming through on Friday afternoon.
01:39But here comes the...
01:40next swirly system into the south west.
01:43Further heavy rain coming through.
01:45And gusty winds by the end of Friday.
01:48Once again, we're not talking about...
01:50as much rain as storm Chandra.
01:52But it's unwelcome rain, nevertheless likely to cause...
01:55further impacts given the state of things in the south west.
01:59So...
02:00difficult conditions to end Friday across the south and south west.
02:05Likewise, in the north east, we've got the wind.
02:07We've got the rain.
02:08We've got the hill and mountain.
02:10snow.
02:11In between.
02:12A reasonable gap between systems doesn't last.
02:14The low...
02:15in the south, as it trundles along the Channel coast, pushes spells of rain northwards.
02:20They do fragment.
02:21They turn more showery on Friday night.
02:23We've still got some persistent stuff coming into the...
02:25east of Scotland.
02:26And really quite significant rainfall accumulations building up at lower levels.
02:29Significant snow.
02:30So...
02:31Saturday starts with a real mixture of weather...
02:35weather across the UK.
02:36It's a chilly start once again in the north east, milder towards the south and south.
02:40And with low pressure, close to the south coast, it's always going to be an unsettled day.
02:45But...
02:45Actually, the gusty winds beginning to ease by this stage, the rain turning more showery.
02:50Still some heavy bursts along the south and south east at this stage.
02:53Dryer towards the north west.
02:55And in fact, there will be some brightness coming along later in the day.
02:59The rain tends to...
03:00to fizzle away.
03:01But it will still feel on the cold side in the north east.
03:05Strong south-easterly winds continuing milder towards the south and south west.
03:10On the south.
03:11And then another chilly day with showers in place.
03:15The next bout of wet and windy weather, never far away, that's likely to come around.
03:20More along later Monday.
03:21We'll keep you updated on all of that via our YouTube channel.
03:24Bye bye.
03:25Bye bye.
