24 April - National evening forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:01Hi there. Compared with the sunny end to the week, there will be a bit more cloud around
00:05this weekend, especially on Sunday. But high pressure remaining close to the UK will bring
00:11largely fine and largely dry weather. A couple of exceptions. We are going to see some low
00:17cloud creep into the north and east of Scotland overnight as well as the east of England.
00:22Patchy frost and fog forming here. And another area of cloud moving into the southwest bringing
00:29the odd shower to the far southwest of Cornwall by the end of the night. One or two showers
00:33reaching Orkney and Shetland with the winds coming from the north and picking up through
00:39the night. Frost free here because of the breeze, but there will be a touch of frost further
00:45south across the Midlands, the east and southeast of England. Double figures in the far southwest
00:50where we've got the cloud arriving and a bit more of a breeze. Now any showers that affect
00:57the southwest overnight will fade away by dawn. Plenty of sunshine returning across England
01:01and Wales. Some patchy medium and high level cloud moving northeastwards. Meanwhile, these
01:06showers reach Northern Ireland just one or two. Nothing particularly wet, nothing to spoil things
01:11too much, but it will be cloudier compared with the last couple of days across Northern Ireland.
01:15Still plenty of sunshine for Western Scotland, but the cloud in the east of Scotland that we
01:25lift a little, it will bring some drizzle to the Cairngorms and one or two showers elsewhere.
01:31Otherwise, well, it's mostly fine on Saturday afternoon and it will feel warm once again in
01:36the sunshine in many places. Temperatures reaching the high teens, low twenties, but there'll be a stark
01:43contrast from the northeast of the UK towards the southwest, especially for Scotland. Southwest Scotland
01:4918 Celsius, northeast Scotland 7 or 8 Celsius and for the east coast of England, especially northeast
01:57England, feeling notably cool. Now through Saturday night, we'll see the cloud in the east once again
02:04creep back inland, extend a little more. There'll also be another area of cloud arriving from the west
02:09and that will thicken across Northern Ireland, Western Scotland to bring a few showers by dawn.
02:13Otherwise, it's again mostly a fine start to Sunday. Less frost and fog because there'll be a bit more
02:22cloud around, but still one or two patches here and there. And we do have high pressure still close
02:27to the UK on Saturday. That extends down across eastern parts of the country, but a weather front
02:33drifts to the northwest of the UK and low pressure towards the northwest of the UK will bring a bit
02:39more
02:39cloud, especially for Scotland on Sunday. Showers moving their way from the southwest to the northeast,
02:45the most frequent showers into the north of Scotland. Wouldn't rule out the old shower for
02:49Northern Ireland, Northern England. And more cloud cover, I think, for England and Wales, but still
02:53the potential for sunny spells to come through from time to time, especially in the south and southeast.
02:58As a result, it's not quite as warm, but still temperatures and places reaching the high teens.
03:03And high pressure remains close by as we go into the start of next week, although Monday once again
03:10brings some showers to the north and east of the UK before high pressure builds once again during
03:17Tuesday and Wednesday.
