00:00There's a lot going on with the weather at the moment.
00:03It's cold, it's wintry out there currently,
00:05and then Storm Goretti is arriving Thursday into Friday,
00:09bringing some wet, windy and further wintry weather as well.
00:13But looking at the setup that we have across us at the moment,
00:16an area of low pressure over Scotland,
00:18and then we do have a front making its way southeastwards,
00:20and you can see all that cold air that's across many places.
00:24That front that pushes southeastwards,
00:26that's going to clear away as we go through early hours of tomorrow,
00:31leaving drier weather behind it for many.
00:33But then another front comes into the west as we go through later on Wednesday.
00:37Before then, a developing area of low pressure just to the southwest of us.
00:42That pushes through, and it's this that becomes Storm Goretti.
00:45More on that in a second.
00:47Back to the here and now,
00:48and snow continues to affect parts of northern Scotland in particular
00:52as we go through the next 24, 36 hours.
00:55Meanwhile, that occlusion that I mentioned,
00:57that front pushes its way southeastwards,
00:59mostly bringing rain across parts of England and Wales.
01:02But some sleet, some hill snow mixed in with it,
01:05and as I mentioned, it clears away with drier, clearer weather
01:08following in behind for many places.
01:10Not totally dry.
01:11A few spots of rain here and there,
01:14maybe a little bit of hill snow as well
01:15across some central parts of England and Wales at times.
01:19But most places having a lot of dry, clear weather
01:21once that front clears through,
01:23and as a result, we are going to see temperatures dropping.
01:25Now, it's not going to be quite as cold
01:27as it has been through some recent nights.
01:29It got down to, well, negative double figures
01:32in a few spots last night.
01:33Perhaps not quite as cold as that,
01:35but nonetheless, Townsend City is just about holding up
01:38above freezing,
01:38but many rural spots dipping below.
01:40And so again, there will be frost.
01:42Again, there will be some fairly widespread ice,
01:45slippery surfaces.
01:46So do take care if you're going out.
01:47Even if you're not in parts of Scotland
01:49where we get further snow,
01:51elsewhere there will be some treacherous conditions around.
01:54Through the day itself, though,
01:55yes, a lot of bright, sunny weather around.
01:57So it's cold, frosty and icy to start,
01:59but actually a largely fine day for many,
02:02just a few showers here and there, perhaps.
02:04And still across northern, northeastern parts of Scotland,
02:07continuing with that snow piling up,
02:09could be a further 20 centimetres, perhaps,
02:11in some places.
02:11On top of what is already lying
02:14and factor in strong winds,
02:16gusty winds towards the north-east of the UK,
02:18touching gales in some places.
02:20So we could see some blowing snow,
02:22drafting snow that could cause some further hazards.
02:25Also strong winds for north-eastern parts of England.
02:27Elsewhere, the wind's not quite as strong,
02:28but pretty blustery.
02:30And when you factor in those winds,
02:32even though temperatures on paper
02:33may be a degree or so higher than on Tuesday for most,
02:37it's going to feel pretty raw, pretty cold,
02:39despite the fact that we do actually have
02:41quite a bit of sunshine around.
02:43Later on, turning cloudier from the west
02:45across much of Northern Ireland
02:47and also parts of southwest England,
02:49that's that other front that I mentioned earlier,
02:51that gradually pushes its way eastwards.
02:55It's not bringing a huge amount of rain.
02:56It breaks up as it goes.
02:57It's just bringing more cloud
02:59as it pushes in for many places
03:00as we go through later,
03:02Wednesday and overnight into Thursday morning.
03:05It's again going to be a bit of a chilly,
03:07cold night for quite a few places,
03:08colder air around.
03:10So temperatures once more around freezing
03:13for most places,
03:14some places a little bit above,
03:15especially towards the southwest.
03:17Elsewhere, many places dipping a few degrees below.
03:20And like I say, yeah,
03:20it could be a fair bit colder
03:22than this coming night.
03:23So temperatures once more
03:24getting several degrees below freezing,
03:27harsh frost, icy patches,
03:28that kind of thing.
03:29Watch out for that.
03:31Then, as I mentioned,
03:32Storm Goretti.
03:33It's a developing feature currently,
03:35but it's set to track
03:36somewhere around the south of the UK,
03:38probably clipping some southern coastal parts.
03:40It was actually named
03:41by the French Met Service
03:42because it's going to bring
03:43the strongest winds,
03:44the most impactful weather there.
03:46But nonetheless,
03:47we're looking at gusts of 50, 60,
03:49perhaps 70 miles per hour
03:51in exposed parts of the southwest
03:52as we go through,
03:53particularly the latter part of Thursday.
03:56And on its northern edge,
03:57it is going to bring
03:58some significant snow
03:59to central parts of the UK,
04:01Wales, parts of the Midlands.
04:02We could see a significant amount
04:04of snow building up.
04:05So it's not just the wet
04:06and windy weather.
04:07It's also the risk
04:08of further snow
04:09that's causing us some concerns.
