00:00It shows you how to install the latest in exciting and innovative products for your vehicle.
00:05Now here's your host, Dave Dobson.
00:11If you want to improve your performance or your ride off-road, of course, that all starts underneath the vehicle.
00:16And if you're talking parts underneath the vehicle, that is where Randy's Worldwide comes in.
00:21They've been at it for decades making drivetrains, making suspension parts, and a whole lot of other things.
00:26Well, Zach, you've been there for a while, and Randy's really, you guys are off-road enthusiasts.
00:33How did the company start, and how has it evolved?
00:35So Randy started a while back.
00:37I know we've been around quite some time, and it essentially started out in a single garage as a drivetrain reselling company, right?
00:47Gradually, that expanded to owning UConn Gear and Axle, USA Standard Gear and Axle.
00:52That's what we refer to as our legacy brands.
00:55And then we've since expanded.
00:58We've gotten into the remand category with Subrota.
01:01We've gotten into suspension heavily, off-road suspension.
01:04So Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Cognito Motorsports, Carly Suspension, to name a few.
01:09And then expanded even into a few different categories like trailer hitches, and then some of the overlanding van suspension performance.
01:17So we've got quite a coverage.
01:18So like the tracks like, so you have a lot of amazing brands on board.
01:22And how has the business evolved since then?
01:25How much growth have you seen in, you know, who you're sending parts to and who's using your stuff?
01:30Yeah, so obviously the drivetrain category for us is the widest spanning, you know, because you're starting, you're going from performance car all the way to the off-road, you know, and then everything in between.
01:42Obviously, our suspension brands, the off-road suspension brands were, I think, the largest growth that we're seeing, especially in the last few years here, is definitely going to be in the HD truck category.
01:52That is our, right now, is our number one growing category, I would say, across the entire organization.
02:00But as far as the line coverage goes, I mean, there's, you would be hard-pressed to find a vehicle that we don't make something for.
02:06Now, there's a lot of places you can get parts out there for your off-road vehicle.
02:09What sets Randy's apart?
02:11So the interesting thing about Randy's and what I like to think makes us a little bit more special is we, our business model is pretty simple, right?
02:19We've been purchasing businesses that are the top of the line, best in the category in the industry, and we're just trying to roll them all into one, make it as easy as possible for someone to go to a one-stop shop and that, and start with, let's start with gearing, and then you can get the most, the best in class HD truck off-road suspension, finish it out with a trailer hitch, and then plenty of other categories in between there.
02:44So not only is the line card huge and the product base a very wide range of products, we also have a really, really, really experienced staff on the phones.
02:55So if you call up to Randy's and you get one of our inside sales guys, he's going to be able to tell you exactly what you need, and that's going to range from drivetrain to suspension to, you know, a trailer hitch to, as I said, a trailer hitch to even finish it off.
03:08Randy's Worldwide is always on the move.
03:11You guys are always progressing and rolling out new products.
03:13So what's some of the hottest stuff you have going right now?
03:15Some of the most exciting ones, obviously, there's a lot of innovation and there's a lot of, the suspension category is a very fast-moving market, right?
03:23And there's a lot of innovation going on at all times.
03:26So some of the cooler things right now, I think, Icon Vehicle Dynamics, for example, we've got a new series of shock coming out.
03:33We call it our CDXS, which previously we only had single or slow speed compression dampening on these shocks.
03:39This is now a slow and a high-speed compression dampening shock.
03:43All of our shock absorbers are built in-house.
03:45We have a huge, huge line card, and they're all available either in kits, a la carte, however you would want to do it.
03:52A couple other cool things.
03:54Carly suspension, that's one of our really, really good moving lines.
03:57As I said before, the HD truck market is just killing it right now.
04:01We've got a couple of new shock packages out through those guys.
04:05Pathfinder, namely, our Pathfinder suspension system is going to be for the guy that wants the best all-around performance out of his tow rig,
04:14but wants to be able to really press on that skinny pedal when he's off-road, right?
04:19So that's been a huge seller for us.
04:21It's been doing very, very well, and we're really, really pleased with the outcome.
04:25Of course, when everybody gets a Jeep or a truck, they want to go off-roading, and that means taking off the OEM stuff
04:31and putting on all the new parts and accessories.
04:34So what do they need to do if they want to make their vehicle more trail-ready?
04:37So a couple of good places to start.
04:39Obviously, off-road, the two biggest categories for us are always going to be suspension and drivetrain.
04:45Typically, the first thing a guy does when he gets his Jeep, he wants to get that super cool new lift kit
04:49and get it sitting up in the air a little bit, but that also comes with, obviously, you're going to be needing to re-gear it
04:56when you go to a larger tire.
04:58So give us a shout and just talk us through what you want to do.
05:03Get on the phone, tell us what kind of lift you want, tell us what size tires you're going to,
05:06and we'll tell you exactly what you need, and it comes down to gear ratios, lockers, wheels, tires, suspension,
05:12everything that you're going to need.
05:15Well, if you're talking drivetrain or suspension, wheels, and towing,
05:18Randy's Worldwide is the place to go.
05:20They have everything you need.
05:22So I want to thank you, Zach, for coming with us,
05:24and thank you at home for tuning in to Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products.
05:28We'll be right back with a whole lot more, so stay tuned.
05:31Coming up, we have a safer and easier way to jack up your vehicle.
05:36Plus, you know, John Gardner's a former Teacher of the Year in the state of Florida.
05:40He is up next, so stick around, and you'll have a chance to learn from the very best.
05:47Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products, brought to you by Amsoil.
05:52Protection you demand, performance you deserve.
05:56Steel Rubber Products, get your ride sealed with steel.
06:01And by Better Battery Bolt.
06:03You are nuts not to try these bolts.
06:10These are two engine valves.
06:16The big one, well, this one's out of a ship.
06:18This other one's out of a daily driver.
06:20Now, the size is different, but the job, well, they have to do the exact same thing.
06:24They have to seal the combustion in the chamber, and they've got to dissipate a ton of heat.
06:28Welcome to this Amsoil Tech Tip.
06:30We're talking about the valves and making sure they seal properly.
06:34What is a valve?
06:35Well, you can see it right there.
06:36It actually goes in the cylinder head.
06:37We're dealing with the face of that valve right there.
06:39We want it to seal in all that combustion pressure, so the face of it has to be ground and has to be perfect.
06:45You can see how to do it right here.
06:47Now, a professional take the valve out, and they would take it to what's called a valve grinding machine.
06:51You want to do a nice valve grinding on it so it seats perfectly.
06:55You can do a 45 to 45-degree angle.
06:58You heard of a three-angle valve job.
07:00That could be 15, 30, 65.
07:02There's all different angles to do.
07:03Or you could do a 45, 46, which is an interference angle.
07:07Just follow your manufacturer's specification.
07:09That's what we're doing.
07:10We're actually running it back and forth, and we're grinding that valve.
07:13Once we got it ground down to the proper angle, well, we've still got one more process we want to do, and that's called lapping the valves.
07:20Kind of use a sandpaper here.
07:21It's a liquid.
07:22We're going to put it on the valve right there.
07:24Then we're going to put it into the head, and we're actually going to rotate the lapping tool.
07:28And what is that doing?
07:29Well, it's actually making that perfect mating surface between the valve and the cylinder head.
07:34And that's huge, Len.
07:35I want to make sure that that thing's sealing because if it's not sealing, we're going to have a lot of problems.
07:39And you can see there, once you get it down, you're going to go ahead and spin it, pick it up, move it, spin it, pick it up, and move it.
07:45And that's going to make that perfect seat all the way around that valve.
07:49Why?
07:49Well, we're only talking about a little portion there, Len.
07:51Look at that.
07:52That's touching that cylinder head.
07:53That has to dissipate a massive amount of heat.
07:56How's that going to work?
07:57Well, what ends up happening there, as you know already, is that heat is passing through into the cylinder head where the oil is actually touching.
08:04We've got oil on the other side of that valve in the valve tray under the valve cover.
08:08And if that heat from that exhaust or that intake valve passes through there and you don't have a properly formulated oil, what can tend to happen is depositing.
08:18And once deposits form in there, it's like putting a nice, big, fuzzy, warm blanket on top of it.
08:22And it makes it even worse because the heat grows, the depositing grows.
08:26So use a properly formulated oil to help keep that surface clear and keep that heat transferring through.
08:32I'm going to put that into perspective, man.
08:34Check that out.
08:351,325 degrees Fahrenheit on the stem of this valve right here.
08:39So when that thing's popping up and down, it's going in there, we have to transfer the heat.
08:43Len, not to mention these valve seals on the other side are getting a big grunt of that heat, and they have to stop the oil from shedding and going down into that cylinder.
08:51What happens if they start to wear out?
08:53Can you help us?
08:54Right.
08:54What happens to them, they end up getting heat cycled so much, they just tend to get baked, and they'll get stiff.
09:00And what can happen is they'll leak.
09:01So what we do is we formulate technology into our high-mileage oils that help to soften and swell those to keep them working even as they accrue miles.
09:10Whether you're a captain of a big ship with a huge valve like this one or your daily driver with this one, it doesn't make any difference.
09:16They both need proper maintenance.
09:18And to find those products to maintain your vehicle, just go to Amsoil.com.
09:31My name's Joel Hawley, and this is my 1934 Ford Coupe, and I'm from Glenpool, Oklahoma.
09:36I was looking for a coupe.
09:44I've always been a big fan of coupes, and I went and met with this guy.
09:47His name is Billy Morris, and he lives in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
09:52He could no longer drive it.
09:54Him and his wife really loved this car, and he wanted to go to a good home.
09:58The more I got to talking, not only did I fall in love with the car, but I fell in love with the story behind the car.
10:04One of the biggest things that really just captured my heart is he's a retired veteran.
10:09He served in all four branches of the military, and he built prosthetics for wounded warriors.
10:16He built this car on a hope and a dream.
10:19On top of that, he has Parkinson's.
10:20So he did everything to this car, clear down to the paint job.
10:24It's not perfect, but it's near and dear to me.
10:27It has fuel injection on it, heat and air and everything.
10:31So, I mean, it's just comfortable to drive.
10:33He saw it about a month after we finished it and everything, and he was just smiling from ear to ear.
10:39He was riding around in his little scooter, you know, just smiling and asking questions and everything.
10:44So he knew it went to a good home.
10:45Hey, Motorheads, before we go to break, I want to tell you that next week, Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products, comes to you from the Performance Racing Industry Show.
10:58All things motorsports and high performance, plus some tech tips for your vehicle at home and a whole lot more.
11:04In the meantime, there's more Motorhead Garage just around the corner.
11:07Stay tuned.
11:08You are locked in to Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products, coming to you from the Mouse Blocker studio.
11:17Mouse-free for years now, thanks to our friends at Mouse Blocker.
11:21Every year, thousands of car owners find out the same thing.
11:24They find out that mice love warm, cozy, and safe engine bays to nest in.
11:28And once they're in there, they start chewing on your car's wiring and insulation.
11:32Now, mice gnaw on anything they can find because their teeth never stop growing,
11:35and they need to keep them from growing too long.
11:38Once they start chewing, they can do thousands of dollars in damage.
11:42But you can stop the damage before it starts with Mouse Blocker.
11:46Mouse Blocker uses ultrasonic waves to keep mice and other critters away from your car,
11:50from your truck, your RV, or your boat, and from your garage altogether.
11:54You can protect your ride, you can protect your wallet, and you can protect your sanity.
11:59Go to mouseblocker.com before the mice move in.
12:02I know lots of you have RVs.
12:06Maybe you love off-roading.
12:07Well, of course, if you get into trouble out there,
12:09or just a simple matter of hitching up your trailer, you're going to want to use a bottle jack.
12:13There's no way to bring your whole floor jack out with you.
12:15But there's some pitfalls, Richard, that come with using a bottle jack when you're off-roading or at your campsite.
12:20Not everything is going to be flat on a vehicle when you want to use it.
12:24So, especially if you're trying to jack up from an axle, you know, it's a tubular thing, it's going to roll off.
12:28Yeah, and this is all you get when you get a bottle jack.
12:31They're great jacks, but this is it.
12:32So, in ideal conditions, on something flat, you can jack something up easily.
12:36You're on the trail, the side of the road, your campsite, and you've got a metal axle on top of this, it's going to slide right on.
12:41Exactly.
12:41So, you guys at Bottle Jack Buddy came up with a solution.
12:44We did.
12:45And what's it look like? How does it work?
12:46Okay, so this is our regular size.
12:49This is our larger size.
12:51What this does is this cradles the axle.
12:53So, if you have a solid axle on here, it's not going to roll off the jack.
12:56It's as simple as that, and there's the largest for the larger axle, but it also accommodates the larger saddle here on the bottle jack.
13:02Yeah, depending on your bottle jack.
13:03Gotcha.
13:04So, let's look and take a look at how it'll actually, we can apply it here with this.
13:10And, you know, two different sizes here, the axles, it fits perfectly, it'll keep it from sliding off here.
13:14How do I know this thing's going to last under the weight of my trailer and my vehicle?
13:18Well, we've tested it up to 17,000 pounds.
13:20That'll do?
13:21100% U.S. steel, manufactured in the U.S. 100%.
13:24And designed here as well.
13:25It is, got a patented design, yes.
13:27Now, how do I know what size axle I have and which bottle jack buddy I'm going to need?
13:30You can get information from the manufacturer.
13:32You can also look online, but there's a lot of different applications.
13:35A lot of vehicles build different axles depending on towing capacity.
13:37And as far as the jack, a lot of bottle jacks build two or three different sizes.
13:41So, always measure your axle.
13:43Always measure your bottle jack.
13:45What are some of the folks that use the bottle jack buddy telling you some experiences they've had with it?
13:49We've gotten great experience.
13:51The product sells itself.
13:52It works really well.
13:52And we even had a guy recently, he had roadside assistance, brand new motorhome.
13:56He was on the side of the road for four hours.
13:57They never showed up.
13:58And so, he actually has this product now.
14:01And he's actually been able to use it to change his own tire, which is really cool.
14:04This is great for off-roaders, as we mentioned.
14:06And you showed it off first at Overland West last year.
14:09How was it received there?
14:10So, Expedition Portal did an article on it, and it was the top, most innovative product at Overland Expo West.
14:15Kind of speaks for itself, too.
14:16And I understand you've been in some magazines, as well?
14:18Yeah, Men's Journal being one of them, as well.
14:20Excellent.
14:20And there's a lot of imitators out there.
14:23How do we know that we're finding the real bottle jack buddy?
14:25So, the best thing to do is look for the term bottle jack buddy on the adapter.
14:29But also, we have several retailers on our website, bottlejackbuddy.net.
14:33You can also get these on eBay.
14:34And if you buy on eBay, you can have them shipped internationally, as well.
14:37eBay does all that.
14:37But we have multiple retailers in multiple states.
14:40You can find them on our website.
14:42We have the regular and the large.
14:43What are the specs on those?
14:44What are the sizes?
14:45So, the regular will cradle up to a three-inch axle.
14:48And the large will cradle up to a four-inch axle.
14:51And these are going to work for anybody.
14:52If they're off-roading, if they're towing a trailer.
14:54And now, even for a low-profile bottle jack like that, folks, with a classic car or something like that.
14:58Exactly.
14:58If you've got an older race car or something like that, you can't fit one of these under the axle, you can buy jacks like these.
15:03It's a perfect solution for jacking up your vehicle, maybe getting it out of trouble if you're off-road.
15:07It's the Bottle Jack Buddy.
15:08You can find it at bottlejackbuddy.net.
15:12Look for Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products on social media.
15:15You can also find episodes you might have missed everywhere you stream TV and video.
15:20Still more to come for this week, so stay tuned.
15:24Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products, brought to you by Pulse Tech Products, world's best battery charger.
15:34Alcan Spring, finest handcrafted leaf springs on the planet.
15:39And by Tailgate Defender, engineered to fold, built to hold, designed for the working man.
15:46All right, Motorheads, hear me out.
15:48Now, you've seen the cell phone seat before, but what if I told you it's gotten even better?
15:52That's one of the most popular items we've ever seen here on the show.
15:56Scott, when you invented the cell phone seat, it was an evolutionary process.
15:59You kept getting feedback and you kept trying it out, and you've done that again, an evolution through what your customers have to say.
16:05So how has the cell phone seat gotten even better?
16:08So great questions.
16:09We had a lot of feedback from our customers.
16:10They love the product, but they mentioned some things that could potentially be better.
16:13Well, we've worked really hard to make some improvements on the device itself.
16:17Not only have we changed the front to make your front navigation buttons more accessible, we've also included optional foam inserts.
16:24So some people had a little bit of movement maybe with smaller phones or phones without cases.
16:28Now we've got these amazing foam inserts that you can easily put into the holder to work for smaller phones or phones that don't have a case.
16:36We also have modified the base.
16:38So if you have any type of movement in your cup holder, I mean, because there's, you know, 100 million different combinations of cup holders, of cell phone sizes, plus you have accessories and cases.
16:48So we have created these foam strips that you can now put around the base of your cell phone seat to ensure that it fits perfectly and stays secure in your cup holder while you're driving.
16:58Now that wasn't an exaggeration.
16:59100 million is actually the number Scott came up with using AI to figure out how many different combinations there are.
17:05And this, of all devices out there, there are other options.
17:08This fits more than any other.
17:10Why is it so adaptable?
17:12Well, we just made it really universal, right?
17:14It has a flexible set of rings on the base that you can flex from four inches down to about three inches.
17:19You can even modify these to get down to 2.5 inches if needed, and we have that in our instructions.
17:23We left the top very open to accommodate for larger phones, phones with large cases.
17:28People, I use a wallet case on my phone, so I need a lot of extra room in there.
17:31So we do have this large opening for those types of phones, but, of course, a lot of people have very small phones.
17:37I mean, you have the newest phone from iPhone is pretty tiny, right?
17:42So that's going to have a little bit of movement when you're in the device, which is okay.
17:45You can have a little bit of movement when it's in there, but with the new foam inserts, check that out.
17:51Don't try this at home.
17:52So now with the new foam inserts, you can actually put those in there and not have any movement on any different type of phone.
17:57Now, I mentioned this is an evolutionary process, and the cell phone seat looks super simple.
18:02But it was complicated to get this designed exactly the way you wanted it to.
18:06Durability, I know, was also a factor that you thought of when designing this.
18:10Correct.
18:10So because it's the only single piece of plastic that does everything that the cell phone seat does on the market, it had to be extremely durable.
18:18We're very proud to say this is made in America.
18:20We make this in Frazier, Michigan, out of very strong, durable, you know, American-made plastic.
18:26This is made by American hands.
18:27Again, we put a lot of pride into the strength that we have and the durability.
18:31There is a lifetime warranty on it.
18:32So, hey, if it's five degrees outside and you try to squeeze it into a small cup holder and you crack it, we're going to replace it for you.
18:38Very cool.
18:39And you have a lot of different options now, and there are newer options since the last time we saw you regarding colors and design.
18:44So let's look at some of what's new from the cell phone seat and the cup holder phone holder, the new version.
18:49That's correct.
18:50So we've added some new colors, including a wolf gray, a canyon beige.
18:53We do have a lot of our original colors, and we're very excited to show that we have these new custom colors.
18:57These are hydrographic dipped, and you can get anything from the tie-dye to American flag version.
19:03So people are very excited about those.
19:05And it's more than you can see here.
19:06If you go to cellphoneseat.com, you can see even more designs.
19:10One of the things I love about the cell phone seat is that you can actually still use your cup holder with that,
19:15and I think that stands head and shoulders above everything else.
19:18I get in a lot of rental cars.
19:19The cup holder is the only place to put the phone, and that renders it useless.
19:23I'm not able to use it for anything else.
19:25Exactly.
19:25You definitely don't want to block your cup holder.
19:26That's the reason I designed this.
19:28You know, when I first had the idea, I was throwing my phone in my cup holder like most people do.
19:32It was bouncing around.
19:32I couldn't really see it.
19:34The idea popped in my head.
19:35We worked for years 3-D printing different versions of this to get it just right,
19:39and the ultimate goal of to make it fit universally in most cup holders without actually blocking the cup holder
19:45because, hey, you know, we need our coffee.
19:46We need our water.
19:47We need our protein energy drink.
19:49Whatever the drink of the day is, we need to have access to it.
19:52So this can be used anywhere there's a cup holder between 3 and 4 inches.
19:55It's going to work in golf carts.
19:56It's going to work in – we've even heard it works in tractors.
19:59It's going to work in your cars.
20:00It's going to work in your trucks.
20:01It's going to work in your boat.
20:02It's even going to work at home in your recliner.
20:04And it's going to work with more than just phones here.
