00:26and families hey gang check it out we are out of the shop and i am so fired up because you know
00:38willie's been doing a side gig for years called cars for christmas and we get to share that on our show
00:45and with you guys it's going to be awesome now you can see we're at willie's house it's really more of
00:49a compound now back in the back you got his field of dreams this car he wants to build but all up in
00:54here are all these cars that we're going to kind of transform for people yeah we give cars to needy
01:00families i get them donated to buy them i got a couple dealerships in colorado i work with but
01:04we get cars we fix them up refurbish them and we basically just give them to needy families
01:09it's a process and you guys get to see a little inside of it because we got some really cool cars
01:14including well this one right here all right we'll be working on this car several others let's take
01:19you inside the shop we'll show you what we're giving away and what we're turning rinses on today
01:24all right we're in the first bay here we got a mini cooper which is a pretty common donor right
01:30yeah man i've got a great relationship with a bmw mini cooper place up north and they they give me a
01:36lot of these because they don't like working on them there was a certain year range where these were
01:41a particular problematic sort of car to work on but we've got a few tricks and if you you know we've
01:46done enough of them where we know how to get around some of the issues but look all the cars
01:50that come in you can guarantee they need five things they all need brakes battery wipers tires
01:56and an oil change so that's where we start we go from one bay to the other now this is a grand prix
02:02and this grand prix we got donated but let me tell you man this grand prix needed everything need a
02:07full-on suspension all the way around it so stretch the shocks brakes new calibers new rotors new pads
02:14we're getting all kinds of stuff as far as leaks done on it obviously i can't do all of this myself
02:18so behind me you'll probably see a great team of guys that over the years have donated their time
02:22like i said we start in august working on these cars we go august through january so i got a great
02:29group of great friends that are tearing it apart last night we got the subframe out of the car which
02:33is what you saw me washing earlier so get that thing cleaned up we dropped it out the engine is still
02:39hanging in it so that way you could adjust oil pan training pan things like that things that were leaking
02:43significantly and then we moved to the top of the engine yeah normally these things would just end
02:47up in a salvage yard yep right but now they're going to get a new life and they're going to give
02:50people a new life and uh we got a couple of guest builders today so it's going to be awesome yeah i
02:56think i'm going to take the mini cooper over here you guys on that one we'll get this one and let's meet
03:00some of our guest builders today our guest helpers i can't believe we got them but i'm stoked for you
03:05guys to meet them all right so here we are at our little bench top and man i got to tell you with
03:11cars for christmas we were really lucky this year because we had federated come on board huge partners
03:17of ours and whenever federated comes on board that means kenny schrader comes on board too uh it's
03:22great to be able to turn wrenches with a hero of yours kenny my man how are you how you been i'm
03:27doing good willie uh i don't turn many wrenches because i i hurt myself when i turn wrenches but man
03:33i'm amazed at what you got going on here and how much work you're doing to all these cars yeah it's
03:38wow we do about 30 to 35 cars every year like this car that we're working on today needed a rack
03:44and pinion so obviously we leaned on you guys when you said you wanted to help us out this year
03:48you sent us a great rack and pinion love moog i remember when we went out to the moog plant moog is
03:53great better than oe stuff so i know these tie rod ends are going to work great we have a setup here
03:59so we can get you know kind of close on the tie rod ends so the alignment's going to be close we drive
04:03and get them aligned but it's a lot of work and all these cars man a lot of you know a lot of elbow
04:08grease but they're nice when we give them away and it makes a world of difference to the families
04:11on the receiving end you guys do a lot of that stuff i know you guys are huge with toys for tots and a
04:16lot of programs well federate you know obviously support you like to have here they supported uh toys
04:22for tots for years they just they care you know i mean everybody wants to make a dollar you want to sell
04:27good parts and have good partners yeah yeah well good parts and good partners what it's all about
04:33these are great parts and great partners and i know you didn't come here to work but you don't get
04:39your hands dirty so i do i've got them dirty all right willie and his crew they've got the whole grand
04:45prix really rocking the subframe is out got it all cleaned up they've got the new rack in there
04:50the new control arms on it going back in the car we're going to take a quick break when we come back
04:54i'm going to be jumping on this 2013 mini
04:57we were sharing a car and actually i was doing public transportation quite a bit
05:07and riding a bicycle so being a mason it was very hard to get material or tools anywhere
05:13and the truck was an immense help man it still is till this day i'm so i look at it and i'm like
05:19willie gave me this truck so
05:20hey gang welcome back we're at willie b's compound and we're all putting in some helping hands right
05:28on cars for christmas my boys are really cranking out the front of the car everything from battery
05:33air filter spark plugs coils wires we got a whole bundle of parts from federated now back here from
05:40monroe we've got our quick struts and what i like about these you can see the old one right worn out
05:45got no damping left in it you can start to see some corrosion on it but overall we're going to
05:50replace it with a brand new complete setup so we don't have to fight with the spring it already comes
05:54with it bushings are all brand new dampers are all brand new it's got a coating on it that's going to
05:59last better than the original so it's not going to have this rust and corrosion over time and what
06:05you're going to get to like you don't always think about just the spring it's a steel spring you think
06:09it lasts forever but they actually fatigue out and you'll get one to break every now and then
06:13so all news going in here along with the brakes so let me finish getting this one out with a
06:17couple of bolts the new one in and we'll move on to the brakes
06:20all right jumping on the front of this 2013 mini we're going to get this engine running better again
06:28so we're going to place the spark plugs and the coils now if you look on modern engines right
06:33we're trying to get rid of that spark plug wire it's trying to get the coil as close to the actual
06:38spark plug as you can get and this doesn't get any closer it's actually made it together
06:42that's about as good as you're going to get so before we drop the spark plugs in there
06:46we're going to gap them now carlisle's been a great help on this project they're really jumping
06:51on board providing a lot of tools this is a real simple one so we got a lot of specialty tools here
06:55this is checking your gap most of the time they're going to become pre-gapped but it never hurts to
07:01double check especially if it gets bumped tapped or dropped so we'll take our little wire here we'll find
07:07the right diameter and you just want to sneak in there just a little snug fit we know it's good
07:13we're going to get this engine running smooth again so we're going to place the spark plugs
07:17and the coils so from federated we got ngk for bull this thing's going to be running like a top here
07:22in just a minute so you bring your daughter back get out of that bad situation yes start like
07:36grinding away all the challenges life is going to throw at you now i want to get back on my feet
07:41just for myself too so and what would a car mean for you to be able to do that it would mean the
07:48absolute world to me hey how about that gift out back christmas gift you don't have a bow on it
07:52but we'll let you ride in it if you want so you do realize this is ours right like we're driving home
07:59in this this is yes honey it's perfect and i want a free penny most of the people get these cars they
08:13don't know the first thing about wrenching or working on it if we're fortunate we'll find somebody
08:17that knows a little bit that's why we try to give them these cars with a pretty good foundation and
08:22a lot of them take pride in learning it now too because when you give them a car and they've not
08:27had one before all of a sudden their sense of pride and ownership and they like it and they're
08:32passionate about it like hey i gotta take care of this because it's taking care of me so it's pretty
08:36cool to watch
08:36the amount of cars that you're giving away and stuff to people
08:42it's it's insane it's just it's neat well you know it's funny because i was going to show you
08:48man this is this is like a a trim down uh a number of applicants this is just from a couple years ago
08:54this is about a thousand and we normally get about three thousand plus entries for you know 35 to 40
09:01cars it's amazing what just a couple of parts and a little bit of sweat equity yeah you right well
09:08the parts are what's key man because you know we got fundraised to get money for these parts we have
09:12a great company like federated come in who can help you and help the community it allows it to
09:18you know exponentially grow so something like this and this partnership is great you know back to the
09:23basics every car that comes in needs five things batteries brakes tires windshield wipers and an oil
09:31change well speaking of all those parts this is the next round to go on this grand prix
09:36so again from federated we got a whole setup you know rotors calipers we got all the hardware pads
09:42we're going with low dust these are all stainless steel guides and keepers so this front end and rear end
09:48is going to be all tip top again so we're going to put this one in line with all the rest for another
09:54round for another family so this really means freedom big time help for another family that gets
10:01affected with cars for christmas hey man appreciate you turning some wrenches
10:04yeah i didn't do a whole lot but i supervised them i made sure they were working this is one
10:08incredible consultant right here can you show you to help all right let's check out we got a family
10:12that just showed up uh recent recipient well from a couple of years ago so we're going to get a little
10:17bit of background on how that's affected them and where they are today yeah man
10:21yeah i was still going through school uh i was working my job and dealing with some self-harming
10:29issues and ended up you know you gave me the car he he surprised me with it what was it like that day
10:36what what was that moment like for you it was a little overwhelming i didn't know quite what to
10:41like feel at that point in time it definitely uh it definitely helped me in that point in time though
10:47definitely needed that so where's the car now what happened uh lasted me for about five years i ended up
10:53donating it to another friend that needed it because i was uh getting a new vehicle so i ended up donating
10:59it to them and it's still going with them as well going to this day you can see that cascade happen
11:05we pay it forward they pay it forward if we all pay it forward man it'd be a lot better place
11:10all right we've got the brakes buttoned up on all four corners of both cars we're going to take a

11:42the year working on cars for christmas so you've seen a little bit of it today with the grand prix
11:46and the mini we're almost done wrapping those cars up but we do have a santa fe and a honda odyssey
11:52minivan we got to work on today but one of the cool aspects about cars for christmas is meeting the
11:57people that get the cars right around christmas time we have one right here my man john how you been
12:04man how are you how's things i'm great uh tell me about reggie now reggie was a regifted forerunner
12:10you can't get on the bus with a whole pack out and go do some plumbing right so yeah i got in your
12:17truck right allowed you to show up with tools everything necessary do the job and do it right
12:22yeah it's an amazing gift and i'm glad it served you well and i hope it serves you for years to come
12:27i i couldn't be any more thankful for it it got me up the mountain four wheel drive
12:33man really cool to hear some of the stories about you know the recipients of all the hard work right
12:41these guys are putting in now tommy you've been out here for about four years right volunteering
12:45your time and what does it mean to you to work on these projects and see the results of all that
12:50hard work it's a change in life to see people that haven't had something to receive a car
12:54we put a lot of hard work into it every car needs a couple things here and there
12:58and people who don't have some they receive a car they can go to work they can do their job
13:04they can support their families they can change their lives now at one point you received a car
13:09is that right yes i did and you're now giving back absolutely i believe in paying forward continuing

14:55all right you guys man here we are working on our mini the biggest thing we fight is mice
15:03right my man matt here from mouse poker let me tell you he was the first guy to believe in cars
15:09for christmas a i'm so thankful for that b your product is the best defense against the worst problem
15:17that we have it's another thing to fight what a mouse can do in there and it's severe damage they go
15:23for wiring they go for every headache you could ever imagine and you my man have the ultimate defense
15:28for that and i'm thankful for it it's pretty impressive it's awesome my products are protecting
15:33the cars but you're changing people's lives man building these cars well i appreciate just being
15:39part of the program and being able to help that's what mouse blocker is about a check engine light or

16:44and step out back we'll let you go to car shop i love it oh my gosh it runs so smoothly and it doesn't
16:54make any weird noises i don't know mom i don't know what to do this is gonna be a hard decision
17:02what car are you taking i think i might have to go with this this one this the ford escape
17:10yes all right ford escape you good with that i am we're gonna do some paperwork and you're rolling
17:16out of this thing yes hey this is yours yes keys in hand yeah i get a hop
17:22so i think that is the best part of the give and the best part of what we do in a sense independence
17:31and freedom
17:32we got the mini knocked out so it's out in the field ready to go in the queue we got our santa fe in
17:43here this one's not too bad it's gonna get the usuals right the battery the oil changes filters etc so
17:48we got a couple inner outer tie rod ends coils filters belts you name it pretty easy stuff and
17:55then big this year was the addition of amsoil these guys brought everything to the house and
18:00some cool ones too yeah they brought us not only these ultimate oil change kits which we're actually
18:05gonna leave in the cars for the new owners show them what's in there man that's super cool you got
18:09your oil chains right you got and it's vehicle specific we ordered this for the santa fe so you get
18:14everything you need from the glove to the next oil change recommendation sticker a little funnel in
18:19yeah you get a funnel the oil and a filter so we're actually gonna leave these in the car because let's
18:25be honest when you get a car especially on this side of the coin you're passionate about it you want
18:30to take care of it you want it you know these people wash it and they they love it so part of that
18:35is maintenance when a pallet of amsoil shows up at your shop it's like christmas day because we got
18:41power steering fluid we got some brake clean parts we got brake fluid so all of these cars
18:45on all the fluids are getting upgraded from amsoil so that's a big give this year man we got everything
18:50now as we gotta do is start well diving in draining and changing my man that's what we're doing today
18:56draining and changing you know a lot of times when you're trying to get through the oil filter it's
19:00kind of in a tough spot luckily we got hooked up with carlisle and they gave us this little
19:04multi-purpose oil filter tool that can really get in tough spots and help out with that you just throw it
19:11around the filter get a little bite on it little clicks will eat it up and get it to where you get
19:15your hand on it
19:16all right guys just want to do a little recap here we've got kind of two days in this thing
19:32we're on three cars ready to come out of the shop get in line up to go right give it some needy families
19:38now where are you guys out in your process how many of you already processed through probably have
19:42about eight or nine done uh or in that realm this is you know you're looking at 10 11 12 we have
19:48another honda we're gonna do today so car number 13 we're aiming for 40 uh trying to get there we'll
19:54see uh but really it comes down to the to the crew uh the guys the great partners that showed up you
20:01know this has been fantastic for us a big blessing everybody here you know when you have a palette of
20:06parts show up and we're like whoa it's amazing so big give big opportunity for us to go further this
20:11year than we have in several years no doubt this guy's been grinding for a long time just kind of
20:16building to what it is but you know what speaks louder what's that is a little bit of extra pocket
20:22change so this is from all those at brenton productions man this is for you dude five grand
20:29five grand to help fill all the gaps and the cracks and it's awesome hope this can help elevate another
20:35couple of cars another you know higher level for us man it's amazing what a life-changing gift
20:42mobility is and you see that in some of the gives and this is gonna go a long way from making that

21:07exhaust leak obviously needed fluids needed tires needed brakes but that's easy compared to what we
21:13you know most often times dude you've seen us well-known cars making tools kind of figuring out
21:18certain problems this week uh and that's what we face every car has its own set of challenges but this
21:22one was on the easier side all right so i think this one feels like it's about on its way into the lineup
