00:00...shows you how to install the latest in exciting and innovative products for your vehicle.
00:05Now here's your host, Dave Dobson.
00:11Hey Motorheads, thanks for tuning in to Motorhead Garage.
00:14We love hearing from you during the week and you can do that on our social media channels.
00:18You can also do that to me personally.
00:20You can send me a note, Dave at MotorheadGarage.tv.
00:23Tell us how we're doing, tell us what you'd like to see.
00:25I've had a lot of friends and family ask me about this one because everybody likes to keep their car clean.
00:29This is a revolutionary idea that makes it easy to clean pet hair.
00:33My family has it and we love it.
00:36If you're a professional detailer or if you just like to keep your car looking good,
00:39a name you want to know is Buff Brighton.
00:41Tom, you've been in the business for what, 40?
00:4442 years.
00:4442 years, so you know what you're doing when it comes to detailing.
00:47And I just want to show you this man's credentials.
00:48Take a look at the sleeve there.
00:50Yeah, so what's the IDA?
00:52The IDA is the International Detailing Association.
00:54It's like ASE is to mechanics.
00:57It's a whole bunch of people around the world that are in a part of an organization
01:00to help each other out and help the detailing community grow and become even more than it is now.
01:06And so basically you are one of only 20-some certified IDA instructors when it comes to detailing.
01:11Yeah, the recognized industry trainers, independent trainers,
01:15and we work to certify people and get them the credentials they want with the IDA.
01:19All that to say this man knows what he's doing.
01:21So I know pet hair is something that is just the enemy of everybody trying to get their car clean.
01:27Every detailer has been in those marathon pet hair removals that just take hours and hours to get done.
01:32And I have two German Shepherds, so I know exactly what that's about.
01:35Yeah, you're bringing up one here.
01:37Yeah, we got one of those.
01:38You have the scraper like that.
01:39And then you have the brush that a lot of people are familiar with.
01:42It has a little scraper on the side.
01:44They still never get the job quite done.
01:46So what have you done to fix their problem?
01:48Yeah, there's stones and everything else, but they are really hard to work with and scratch the interior.
01:52So what we came up with, we call it the For Real.
01:54It looks like an eel has little eyes to it and stuff.
01:57It'll hook to any vacuum in the world.
01:59We have adapters for it that will fit everything from a large shop vac hose to the smallest little hoses.
02:04And I'll show you something else we've done here in a minute.
02:07But this pops off of this adapter, this mini crevice tool.
02:10It'll also, if you're at the car wash and you have this one, it'll actually slide right onto this.
02:15Nice.
02:16So you can just throw it in your glove box.
02:18It'll fit inch and a quarter inside, inch and a half outside.
02:21So when you go to the car wash, you can put that on there.
02:23And this just absolutely destroys pet hair.
02:26As we saw, we added some pet hair to one of our colleagues' vehicles here.
02:30And boy, we grabbed that stuff in, and that took care of it.
02:32For real is for real.
02:33It really does work.
02:35We've tried every other pet hair tool on the market.
02:37It's five times faster than any of them.
02:39Now, of all the things you have to clean up in your car, it seems like pet hair is the most stubborn.
02:43Of course, there's leaves and there's dirt and debris.
02:45But pet hair is so hard to get out of your car's upholstery.
02:49And why is that?
02:49Well, first of all, pet hair is super fine and it's super light.
02:53So think of your carpet as sort of being like Velcro.
02:55These are the hooks or the loops that hold it all in.
02:58And the pet hair actually interweaves with the carpet fibers.
03:02And even short hair can get under those fibers and burrow in.
03:05And it makes that especially hard to get out.
03:07And if you think that your car's upholstery attracts pet hair, well, you're right.
03:11Because static electricity is created on your carpet that creates static cling.
03:16And that is another reason why pet hair actually sucks right into your upholstery and it makes it hard to get out.
03:22Now, I told you my family uses the fur eel.
03:24And it's true.
03:24My wife and I keep one in the glove compartment.
03:26Ever since Tom came to the studio and gave us one, it is the most important tool we carry with us.
03:31We use it at the car wash.
03:32It easily adapts to the hose at the car wash.
03:34We can also use it at home.
03:36And it's simple.
03:37It's super easy to use.
03:38Now, of course, you can try this.
03:40This is one of the rollers you've seen that you use maybe for your clothing.
03:43And it's great for that.
03:44It's just a sticky roller.
03:45And you peel off the tape once you get it full of hair.
03:48And it's very easy to use on a piece of clothing to get a little bit of lint off or something like that, maybe a little bit of pet hair.
03:53But we tried it here on the floor mat that we embellished a little bit with extra pet hair.
03:59And it was a task.
04:01You didn't get very far with it.
04:02Once we started rolling, it got clogged up with hair.
04:05Had to start peeling off the sticky.
04:07And that would take hours and hours and hours and probably several rollers to actually get the job done in your car.
04:12So that is not the solution for pet hair in your car.
04:16So my wife and I have also tried one of these gloves.
04:19Now, this is made of rubber.
04:21It's actually pretty cool.
04:22I know that a lot of people actually will pet their dogs with this and it gets some of the hair off.
04:25And that's nice.
04:27It's also made to get hair off of upholstery.
04:29And you slide it right on.
04:31It did a pretty good job compared to the roller especially.
04:34But it started clogging up with hair immediately.
04:37And we had to keep cleaning it off.
04:38And that was going to be very laborious getting it done with it.
04:41And it still wasn't exactly perfect.
04:43And to boot, my wife is allergic to the gloves.
04:46So this was not a solution for us either.
04:48So thank goodness for the fur eel.
04:51First of all, I think it's cool because it looks like an eel.
04:53It's even got eyes and teeth like a moray eel.
04:56And those teeth are the secret.
04:58You can actually run this back and forth.
04:59You don't have to put a lot of pressure on it either.
05:01So it wasn't too taxing.
05:04You can actually just let the tool do the work as you go back and forth getting all the hair off the carpet.
05:08Immediately, it was showing better results than the glove.
05:11Way better results than the roller there.
05:13You just kind of go against the grain.
05:15And you go in one direction, maybe the opposite direction.
05:18And we found out the pet hair came up really easily with a fur reel.
05:22It took a couple of passes.
05:23But the great thing about it, I know there are other tools out there that you can get pet hair off of your upholstery with.
05:29But they are not attached to your vacuum.
05:31So you end up getting a pile of hair.
05:33And then you have to make a run with the vacuum.
05:35With a fur reel, it's kind of a two-in-one solution.
05:37It actually sucks the hair up as you take it off of the carpet.
05:41And you can see here as we finish, this thing looks just like it did, just like it was when we bought the car.
05:46We got all the dog hair off, and that was ground in.
05:48Believe me, we made sure we ground it in and made it an extreme situation.
05:52And the fur reel made amazing work of that.
05:54Believe me when I tell you I experienced it firsthand.
05:57The fur reel is for real.
05:59This thing works.
06:00You can trust Buffbright's 40 years of experience.
06:03You can get this at buffbright.com, and it ships from the USA.
06:07Well, John Gardner's kind of a big deal, and the professor will be educating us on fuel filters and diagnosis.
06:13We've got all that and more still to come on Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products.
06:18Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products, is brought to you by Amsoil, the first in synthetics.
06:25Steel Rubber Products, get your ride sealed with steel.
06:29And by Custom Auto Sound, audio for the great classics, customs, and street rods.
06:37All right, motorheads, hear me out.
06:39Now, you've seen the cell phone seat before, but what if I told you it's gotten even better?
06:43That's one of the most popular items we've ever seen here on the show.
06:47Scott, when you invented the cell phone seat, it was an evolutionary process.
06:50You kept getting feedback, and you kept trying it out, and you've done that again, an evolution through what your customers had to say.
06:56So how has the cell phone seat gotten even better?
06:59So great questions.
06:59We had a lot of feedback from our customers.
07:01They love the product, but they mentioned some things that could potentially be better.
07:04Well, we've worked really hard to make some improvements on the device itself.
07:08Not only have we changed the front to make your front navigation buttons more accessible, we've also included optional foam inserts.
07:15So some people had a little bit of movement maybe with smaller phones or phones without cases.
07:18Now we've got these amazing foam inserts that you can easily put into the holder to work for smaller phones or phones that don't have a case.
07:26We also have modified the base.
07:28So if you have any type of movement in your cup holder, I mean, because there's, you know, 100 million different combinations of cup holders, of cell phone sizes, plus you have accessories and cases.
07:39So we have created these foam strips that you can now put around the base of your cell phone seat to ensure that it fits perfectly and stays secure in your cup holder while you're driving.
07:48Now that wasn't an exaggeration.
07:50100 million is actually the number Scott came up with using AI to figure out how many different combinations there are.
07:55And this, of all devices out there, there are other options.
07:59This fits more than any other.
08:01Why is it so adaptable?
08:02Well, we just made it really universal, right?
08:04It has a flexible set of rings on the base that you can flex from four inches down to about three inches.
08:09You can even modify these to get down to 2.5 inches if needed, and we have that in our instructions.
08:14We left the top very open to accommodate for larger phones, phones with large cases.
08:19People, I use a wallet case on my phone, so I need a lot of extra room in there.
08:22So we do have this large opening for those types of phones.
08:25But, of course, a lot of people have very small phones.
08:28I mean, you have the newest phone from iPhone is pretty tiny, right?
08:32So that's going to have a little bit of movement when you're in the device, which is okay.
08:36You can have a little bit of movement when it's in there.
08:38But with the new foam inserts, check that out.
08:42Don't try this at home.
08:42So now with the new foam inserts, you can actually put those in there and not have any movement on any different type of phone.
08:48Now, I mentioned this is an evolutionary process, and the cell phone seat looks super simple.
08:53But it was complicated to get this designed exactly the way you wanted it to.
08:57Durability, I know, was also a factor that you thought of when designing this.
09:00Correct.
09:01So because it's the only single piece of plastic that does everything that the cell phone seat does on the market, it had to be extremely durable.
09:08We're very proud to say this is made in America.
09:10We make this in Frasier, Michigan, out of very strong, durable, you know, American-made plastic.
09:17This is made by American hands.
09:18Again, we put a lot of pride into the strength that we have and the durability.
09:21There is a lifetime warranty on it.
09:22So, hey, if it's five degrees outside and you try to squeeze it into a small cup holder and you crack it, we're going to replace it for you.
09:28Very cool.
09:29And you have a lot of different options now.
09:31And there are newer options since the last time we saw you regarding colors and design.
09:34So let's look at some of what's new from the cell phone seat and the cup holder phone holder, the new version.
09:40That's correct.
09:40So we've added some new colors, including a wolf gray, a canyon beige.
09:43We do have a lot of our original colors, and we're very excited to show that we have these new custom colors.
09:48These are hydrographic dipped, and you can get anything from the tie-dye to American flag version.
09:54So people are very excited about those.
09:56And it's more than you can see here.
09:57If you go to cellphoneseat.com, you can see even more designs.
10:00One of the things I love about the cell phone seat is that you can actually still use your cup holder with that.
10:05And I think that stands head and shoulders above everything else.
10:08I get in a lot of rental cars.
10:10The cup holder is the only place to put the phone, and that renders it useless.
10:14I'm not able to use it for anything else.
10:15Exactly.
10:16You definitely don't want to block your cup holder.
10:17That's the reason I designed this.
10:18You know, when I first had the idea, I was throwing my phone in my cup holder like most people do.
10:22It was bouncing around.
10:23I couldn't really see it.
10:24The idea popped in my head.
10:25We worked for years 3-D printing different versions of this to get it just right.
10:29And the ultimate goal of to make it fit universally in most cup holders without actually blocking the cup holder.
10:36Because, hey, you know, we need our coffee.
10:37We need our water.
10:38You know, we need our protein energy drink.
10:40Whatever the drink of the day is, we need to have access to it.
10:43So this can be used anywhere there's a cup holder between 3 and 4 inches.
10:46It's going to work in golf carts.
10:47It's going to work in – we've even heard it works in tractors.
10:50It's going to work in your cars.
10:51It's going to work in your trucks.
10:52It's going to work in your boat.
10:53It's even going to work at home in your recliner.
10:55And it's going to work with more than just phones here.
10:57If you've got a kid maybe with their iPad in the back, you can set that right in there and put it in the cup holder in the car seat and you're good to go.
11:04That's correct.
11:05Now your kid's back there.
11:06He can watch whatever he likes to watch or play on his iPad.
11:08And he doesn't even lose spot for his apple juice or his milk.
11:10Now there are imitators out there.
11:12You can go to other websites and you can find a cheap substitute.
11:14It may look the same, but the design and the quality will not be the same as the cup holder phone holder from Cell Phone Seat.
11:20The only place to get the real deal is CellPhoneSeat.com.
11:24You know diesel engines run and run and run and that's one of the reasons people love them so much, but you've got to maintain it.
11:31We're going to show you a great way to do that a little later on here on Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products.
11:36Got a whole lot more in the meantime.
11:38We'll see you in a few.
11:38You are locked in to Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products coming to you from the Mouse Blocker studio.
11:46Mouse free for years now, thanks to our friends at Mouse Blocker.
11:50A mouse only needs a few hours under your hood before he starts chewing on the wiring and about only a day to shred your insulation.
11:57And in just a week, your wiring harnesses could be completely destroyed.
12:01But you can stop the damage before it starts with Mouse Blocker.
12:04Mouse Blocker is the electronic deterrent that drives mice away.
12:09It uses ultrasonic technology so there's no traps, no poison, and no nasty surprises in the spring.
12:15Look, it takes just a couple of seconds to plug in a Mouse Blocker device either under your hood or in your shop.
12:21Once you plug it in, you protect your car, your RV, your boat, your motorcycle all winter long.
12:25Get one.
12:26Go to MouseBlocker.com and protect the ride you love.
12:34Maybe your car's a little sluggish.
12:40Maybe it's hesitating or you just got bad performance.
12:43Perhaps, bang, you got the check engine light on.
12:46Well, welcome to this AMSOIL tech tip.
12:48You know, it might just be as simple as a fuel filter.
12:51What are you talking about when we're talking about a fuel filter?
12:53We're talking about a filter that filters the fuel.
12:56Pretty obvious.
12:57But if you look right there at the fuel tank, it comes up, goes through the fuel filter, through the injectors, and a lot of them return back to the tank.
13:05How do you change a fuel filter?
13:06Great question.
13:07Well, a lot of them are in the tank.
13:08It may be difficult, but you also could have some right on the frame rail like this.
13:12First step you want to do is just disconnect the actual fuse or the power to it and turn it over.
13:17Why?
13:17We're going to depressurize the system.
13:19We don't want fuel flying.
13:20And then get you a line wrench and go ahead and disconnect the fuel filter.
13:23Once you got the fuel filter off, just make sure your O-rings and everything's in place up there.
13:28And then you're going to put it back on.
13:29And when you put it back on, just reverse the procedure.
13:32But make sure you follow the arrow of flow.
13:34Once you got it on, snug it up.
13:36You'll be good to go.
13:37Recommends about 24,000 miles.
13:39Look at your manufacturer's service manual to find out when.
13:43Fuel filters could be in the tank too, Len.
13:44I got a pretty cool demo set up here.
13:46And if you give me a hand, I'm showing you.
13:48We've got a fuel pump right here, a filter, and then we're going to return.
13:51I got a battery down here.
13:53So I'm going to reach down here and just plug it in.
13:55And there we go.
13:56We're actually running it.
13:57Now I'm running it through the amps because amps, mechanical draw, amps are going to go up.
14:01What do we have?
14:02You get 3.7.
14:033.7.
14:04So what I'll do is I'll simulate a restriction here.
14:06Just like that.
14:07Is it going up?
14:08And we are up to 3.9.
14:10So it went up.
14:103.9.
14:10Yeah.
14:11So just think about that for a minute.
14:12We're taking that restriction with that fuel pump and we're causing a problem.
14:16Now this come out of a parts washer, this is pretty nasty, but fuel filters, they have
14:21a big job to do.
14:22They do.
14:22And if the fuel filter can get clogged, right, that's its job is to pick up anything.
14:27This is obviously very dirty fuel, but the fuel filter, it can get clogged.
14:31And if it does, it creates that restriction.
14:33Yeah.
14:33I got a perfect demo for that one.
14:34If you look at this one right here and then you look at this one, I'll put them side by
14:38side for you guys.
14:39You can see.
14:40Len, what do you think of that one?
14:40Right.
14:40A clogged filter generally will collapse.
14:42And that's what you're seeing.
14:43That filter was clogged, it twisted and collapsed, not moving any fuel.
14:46That's not going to do it, number one.
14:48Number two, Len, if you go around the country, there's different fuel blends.
14:51I mean, it depends on the climate, the time of the year.
14:54You may even get some fuel that's really not up to par.
14:56You guys have products that can help us with that as well.
14:59We've got fuel additives, whether you're dealing with a gasoline vehicle or a diesel vehicle,
15:03full line of fuel additives for all of those conditions you described.
15:06To cover the seasonality, if you're operating a diesel in cold temperature, we've got cold
15:11weather performance improver.
15:12We've got cetane boosts.
15:14We've got octane boosts.
15:15So basically, we've got additives that can cover all your needs.
15:19Len, here at Motorhead Garage, Dave Dobson, the crew, and I were always preaching maintenance,
15:24maintenance, maintenance.
15:25Now, I know you believe in that.
15:26Absolutely.
15:27And that's why at Amsoil, we've got a full line of maintenance products for your fuel
15:30system.
15:30So check it out at amsoil.com.
15:32It's time to test your automotive IQ.
15:35Frenchman Nicholas Joseph Cugno invented the first steam-powered road vehicle, a tractor
15:41for the French Army.
15:43In what year did Cugno's machine first hit the road?
15:47Was it 1805, 1650, 1899, or 1769?
15:55Believe it or not, over 250 years ago in 1769.
16:01We are always on the prowl for someone to feature as Motorhead of the Week.
16:06If you or someone you know qualifies, send us a note on social media.
16:09We'll get you here on the show.
16:11We'll be right back with more Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products.
16:14So keep it right here.

16:39One of our favorite guests here, Guy Olson, he's with Performance Fuel Specialists, and
16:46he's going to tell us about diesel fuels.
16:48But first, I want to tell you, there's a whole lot to learn about diesel and gasoline
16:51additives.
16:52So go to his website, fuelguys.com, and you can subscribe to the newsletter.
16:57You're going to learn a whole lot more than we can explain here, and you'll get free shipping
17:00on anything over $30.
17:02But first, let's talk about the task at hand here, Guy.
17:05We're talking about wintertime, colder climates.
17:07Of course, there's something here for everybody, not just people that live in cold climates.
17:11But when diesel fuels get cold, they don't flow as well because they gel.
17:16So there are a lot of anti-gels out there.
17:18You guys have one at PFS.
17:19How is it different from the other products out there?
17:22That's a great question.
17:23And first, I want to explain the technology behind how an anti-gel actually functions.
17:28So in the diesel fuel, you either have a blend, which people in the cold are familiar
17:33with.
17:33But diesel fuel anti-gels chemically change the fuel.
17:37So what we do is we take and change all the polarity of the molecules of the wax.
17:43So when it gets cold, they're all positive.
17:45So when it gets cold, they want to congeal and join together.
17:48But because they're all the same polarity, they push apart.
17:51So the goal is to treat all of the molecules in your fuel and keep them from jellying.
17:58However, number two fuel with a chemically altered molecule is still number two fuel.
18:04Okay.
18:05And what's the difference between number one and number two diesel?
18:07Great.
18:08So number one fuel is thinner.
18:09Now it has less wax, but it's thin and it flows easy because diesel fuel is an oil.
18:15It's not like gasoline.
18:16It is actually an oil.
18:18And when it gets cold, it becomes thick.
18:20Now your motor oil does the same, but your motor oil filter has a bypass.
18:25So when it's cold, it'll bypass the filter.
18:27Not the case in your fuel filter.
18:29And what's happened with the latest technology is the fuel has, the fuel filters have become
18:35so tight, the tolerances, they're down to about a three micron is what you're seeing,
18:40where they used to be 30.
18:42That's 10 times tighter than they've ever been.
18:45And what's happening is it's hard to pull that cold, thick fuel through these filters when it gets cold.
18:50So the benefit of an anti-gel has become more limited based on the amount of flow.
18:56So it's actually not uncommon to have somebody have a fuel failure, but it's not because of wax.
19:01It's due to the problem of flow.
19:03They can't pull enough fuel fast enough through the filter to stay running.
19:07So number one diesel is less viscous.
19:09Is it an anti-gel?
19:11So number one fuel will flow easier and help you pass through that filter, but it is not an anti-gel.
19:17So when you add number one to your fuel, generally it takes a 50-50 blend or 50% one and 50% number two
19:24in order to get even a 10 or 15 degree reduction in operating temperature.
19:30Where generally an anti-gel like ours, if you're using it, can get you 20 to 30 degree reduction in cold weather operation.
19:39So what's better, a blend or an anti-gel?
19:41First off, the cost of a blend is substantially more.
19:44A 50-50 blend is going to cost you about 30 cents a gallon more.
19:48And number one has less power, less performance.
19:51It has far less lubricity as well.
19:54And number two doesn't have any anyways.
19:56And so the cost itself of the additive is about 10 cents a gallon.
20:01So for 10 cents a gallon more, I can keep you running at almost every temperature that you're going to experience throughout the winter,
20:09except the extreme cold days.
20:11So literally, you can run number two diesel fuel for all but maybe two weeks of an entire winter.
20:17Save yourself that 20 cents a gallon and you get the extra lubricity because these are complete formula.
20:22We're going to take out the water.
20:24We're going to help with that icing itself.
20:26We're going to lubricate up to a 25% increase in lubricity.
20:29And we're going to stabilize that fuel for storage as well as the oxidation,
20:34which we referred to in the Power Plus summer diesel treatment.
20:37There is some amazing technology behind everything that PFS does,
20:40and you can find it all at FuelGuys.com.
20:42That's also where you can sign up for the newsletter.
20:45By the way, Guy's going to be back in just a few weeks to talk more about diesel.
20:49Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products will be back in seven days.
20:53And if you miss us in the meantime, head over to the Motorhead Garage YouTube page.
