00:00Motorhead Garage, the program that each week introduces you to and shows you how to install
00:06the latest in exciting and innovative products for your vehicle.
00:10Now here's your host, Dave Dobson.
00:16Motorheads, you have seen AP Laser on the show before, but you haven't seen AP Laser
00:20like this. Now their motto is leading the way and I'm convinced they're going to have to change
00:23their name to AP Lasers because this is twice the laser that you've seen before. Now, Aaron,
00:29this is a dual source laser. How is this different than the lasers we've seen before from AP Laser?
00:34Well, most lasers have either a CO2 laser source or a fiber laser source. And we've seen both from AP
00:41lasers separately. Yes, but this machine has both. So the CO2 laser will do your standard, your classic
00:49and great materials of acrylic, leather, stone, glass. But with the fiber laser source, it's kind
00:56of a game changer for the automotive industry because it will mark metal. Anything metal,
01:00we can mark it with this machine as well. Well, we've seen AP Laser. The reason you've been here
01:04is because you can mark metal with an AP Laser machine. How's that different with a dual source
01:08laser? Well, with a classic CO2 laser, we can mark it, but we always had to use a bonding agent,
01:14some type of spray or additive. And those materials become very expensive and difficult to manage or even
01:20scale. But with the fiber laser, it's going to mark directly to the metal without any additive,
01:25without any bonding agent. And in some instances, we're actually going to get depth out of the
01:29metal. So if we're doing, you know, parts for inventory or tools, we want to mark with putting
01:36our logo on or QR code, the fiber laser will do all of that and it will do it without any additional
01:41preparation or additives to make that marking happen.
01:45And of course, we've seen folks, personalized valve covers and all kinds of great things under the
01:49hood. And AP Laser is going to make that even a lot easier for folks now. But there's now you have
01:55two options with with the dual source. So there's a two pass process you can use. Why would someone
02:00want to do that? Well, what we can do is we can find some materials we can go through and we can do
02:05the standard CO2 pass where we can do an engraving with like a high resolution picture or some other
02:12logo or detail. And then we can hit it again with the second pass with the fiber to give it like a
02:15really crisp outline and detailing. So really allow us to do like really high resolution pictures.
02:22You know, we used to be limited to, you know, two or 300 DPI, which is, you know, some people
02:27understand that language, but now we're we're up to 600 and higher DPI on some of the stuff we can do.
02:32And what that translates to is that we're all just able to do extreme detail and very crisp, clear,
02:38realistic looking pictures, materials like granite, metal, stone like that. So we've kind of gone from,
02:46we've really expanded our capabilities to be near limitless. And limitless possibilities when it
02:53comes to AP Laser, because of a few design features we've always seen from AP Laser,
02:57what makes AP Laser's machines stand out from some of the others in the industry?
03:01Dave, it's our it's our open architecture system. Okay, a lot of lasers, we'll talk about a
03:05pass-through system, which really restricts or there's a box with no pass-through at all.
03:09But AP Laser is built on what we call an open architecture system. Okay, so the z-axis is this
03:15table down here, we'll pull all the way out. And then when we're into the machine, combined with our
03:21low rider system, okay, so this top will move up and down without this in it, we can do anything that
03:27you can fit underneath the machine, you can laser engrave on. So we've seen we've seen people engrave their
03:33floor, we've seen people do an entire car hood or a door or refrigerator. Yes, and I've even seen
03:38the companies where they've elevated the machine up on blocks to fit larger things underneath.
03:43And not just with metal, we've talked about metal. Folks that have a shop, they might be making mugs,
03:48they might be making keychains, they could be doing leather stuff for all their customers and
03:52everything and customize that with the shop. So you're seeing lots of automotive shops, the dual source
03:57laser is going to give them a lot more options. Yes, that's the other thing. In today's market,
04:01everybody's looking for diversification. What can I do when I'm not turning the wrench? So you can make
04:06you know, keychains, tumblers, mugs, because we also have a rotary tool, which we've talked about
04:11before. Same rotary tool for this machine, but you can do all these different things that can be
04:17customized for your customers. And it's just something else you can add on to a sale, whether
04:23it's a personalized tumbler, put somebody's name on it, Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, there's all kinds
04:28of things that you can do. How easy is it to get started to add AP laser to your business or to get
04:33started with the laser as your business? When you purchase one of our machines, you get a turnkey
04:38package and you become part of our AP laser family. What does that mean? Well, you're going to get the
04:44computer, the machine, the training, the service, which is the service is lifetime 365, 24 hours, seven
04:51days a week for the life of the machine. But you're also going to get what we call the AP laser family.
04:56You're going to become part of an AP laser group. So you can, you're going to get support from our
05:00customers as well as our tech support. And it really is a family environment with our AP laser owners.
05:06With AP lasers, dual laser technology, they make it easy. You can be engraving metal one minute,
05:11then you can go on to glass and leather in the very next minute. They make it super simple. Go to
05:15AP laser.com slash motorhead to find their whole line and how it's going to help you grow or start a
05:20business. Motorhead garage presented by steel rubber products is just getting started and coming up,
05:26John and Len are getting ready to serve up another tech tip. We'll see you in a few.
05:30Motorhead garage presented by steel rubber products brought to you by Amsoil, protection you demand,
05:37performance you deserve. Steel rubber products, get your ride sealed with steel. And by
05:45custom auto sound, audio for the great classics, customs and street rods.
05:59Yes, you're looking at two identical trucks, identical motors. And yep, they're both using Amsoil,
06:04so they're well protected. Here's the deal. They're going down a road at 55 miles an hour. Both of them,
06:10cruise control set, the roads level, and there they go. My question to you is, which engine has more
06:16load on it? Which one has more throttle pushed? Which one's burning more gas? If you said along with
06:22the trailer, you're absolutely right. Welcome to this Amsoil tech tip. We're talking about the map
06:28sensor. It's a manifold absolute pressure sensor, and that measures engine load on your car. How does it do it?
06:35Well, it measures engine vacuum. Think about it. When you're going down the road, the vacuum is going
06:39to differ between these two motors. When I have more load on the back, then the computer has to respond
06:45and dump more fuel in. You can see it right here. The computer sends out a five-volt signal. It goes
06:50through. Depending on that vacuum, actually alters that voltage, and it sends a return signal back.
06:56Matter of fact, we tested one. You can actually see it on a DVOM. What we did is we have a map sensor
07:01located right there. We hooked it up to a vacuum pump, and then what we did is we hooked up a DVOM.
07:07So you can see the computer sending about a tenth of a volt to it right there, and then what we did
07:12is we actually pumped it up. We simulated engine vacuum, and you can see the voltage change right
07:17there, which is really, really cool. We know it's working. What does it look like? What does the scan
07:21tool see? Well, we crank up the car right here, and when we did it, you can see it jump up for a second.
07:26There it goes, and then I reached over and I opened up the throttle. You can see the manifold absolute
07:30pressure change, the throttle indicated angle change, and the load value change. Len, everybody's
07:36going to take this pickup truck, and they're going to overload it. General Motors knows that,
07:40and they build them for over-engineering. The oil is going to take some beatings too, isn't it?
07:45Right. What people don't understand is all of that extra load, if you will, goes on the oil,
07:50right? And it's not just the engine. Right away, we go to the engine. Think about the axles,
07:54the transmission, the transfer case, if it's a four-wheel drive vehicle. All of that added stress from
08:00a trailer, from filling the box with wood or dirt or whatever it is, is going to get transmitted
08:06into the oil. The oil still has to protect between those high-pressure surfaces in the differential
08:10or the engine or any of those areas that are experiencing stress due to load on the vehicle.
08:15Now, you guys also build a thousand horsepower LS motor. There's some stress on that guy, wasn't there?
08:20Oh yeah, definitely. That was using our high-end racing oil. That's the height of stress
08:24inside of a supercharged engine like that one. And one thing we do at AMSOIL is we're constantly
08:30formulated, we're constantly testing our formulations to make sure that it's able to provide that
08:35protection that we say it's going to provide. Yeah, no doubt about that. Now, whatever you use a
08:39vehicle for, tow-in, taxi cab, food delivery, or pleasure, keep it protected with the best product
08:45you can. You can do that at amsoil.com. Did I say food delivery? When's lunch? Let's eat. Yeah.
08:51Davey Eck owns HMV Auto Repair in Half Moon Bay, California. And he tells me that when it comes to
08:58his customers' cars, he sees a lot of big damage from small rodents all the time. About 30% of the
09:05vehicles that come in here, I'll see signs of rodents. So it's really common. The thing is,
09:10you want to catch it before it's a problem, not after it's a problem. So, Davey recommends
09:16mouse blocker to all his customers. I would say about 80% of people are fine with it. They want to
09:23do it. Every once in a while, 20% or so people, they think they're going to put fabric softener or
09:30some kind of, like, pouches in their car. And I tell them those don't normally work. Sometimes they do,
09:37but, you know, the trick is if the car sits and you're in a place where there are mice, they're going
09:41to find their way back in. And this product just works. So I will say also, I've seen a lot of other
09:47people. I recommend it and then they go with a different brand that they find on Amazon and they
09:52come back months later, you know, with the same problem and it's progressed worse. And I'll say
09:56that using the mouse blockers, I never see that. Mouse blocker is an affordable and effective
10:02insurance policy against expensive repairs. Get it before it's too late. You can get it at mouseblocker.com.
10:11My name is Duane Mentor and this is my 69 AMX.
10:27It's a 1969 AMX. I've had it for 25, 27 years now. It wasn't this condition when I got it.
10:34Did a lot of restoration work, paint, motor, transmission, bring it up to what it is today.
10:40I wanted to be different. There's Camaros, Mustangs, all that kind of stuff. Everybody's got those,
10:45but you don't see these much. It really stands alone in those years with the style, the sale panels.
10:53You could readily pick it out as an AMX. This was a matador red factory color and I wanted to keep it
11:00that color. I started out wanting to keep it completely original and then I changed course because 20 years
11:07ago it was harder to get parts. So I did some minor changes, but it's still pretty stock. I carpeted the trunk,
11:15some little stuff like that. I got all my seals from steel rubber and they work great. Fit great,
11:23great product. American Motors, they were really fast cars and they are and they're different and
11:30that's the muscle cars. Get your youth back while you're driving it anyway.
11:42Well, here at Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products, we always bring you the latest
11:47aftermarket gear for your vehicle and there's still more to come after this short break. So come on back.
11:52You are locked into Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products coming to you from the
11:58Mouse Blocker studio. Mouse free for years now thanks to our friends at Mouse Blocker.
12:04Now this is the I wish I'd have thought of that portion of the program because I'm telling you,
12:08this is one of the simplest inventions you've ever seen. It's one of the coolest inventions I've ever
12:12seen and you have the best product name we have ever seen on the show, the Oil Utter. Now Kevin,
12:17tell me what the inspiration was behind this. We got really frustrated changing our own oil and the mess
12:21didn't have to be that way so we set out to solve the problem. 120 years of changing oil and someone
12:26has finally made it clean and easy to do. Yeah, very simple. It has a very tough nitrile rubber,
12:32ready for your garage, ready to be beat up. It has a magnetic attachment that'll fit to the bottom of
12:37the oil filter so it holds itself kind of like your third hand and it directs the oil where you want
12:41it and not where you don't. Well, this is a Dodge Ram pickup truck, notoriously difficult to change the
12:46oil and especially hard to do it without a mess, but you can do it. We can do it. All right,
12:50we'll get to work here. I'm going to check in with our buddy Elliot over here. Elliot, I see you have
12:54two different oil udders there so you've got everybody covered, right? Yeah, Dave. So we have
12:58the three inch oil udder and then we have the four inch oil udder XL. You're going to want to make sure
13:05you take a look at your vehicle's oil filter and look at the outside diameter. These products will work
13:10with oil filters that are smaller than that three or four inch rating. They are flexible and you can usually
13:16find the outer diameter on your parts site. And then you have a couple accessories you brought
13:20with you too. This is, you call it the stand? We call it the mag stand. So it's a magnetic stand.
13:27There's magnets on the back and there's also a magnetic oil bottle holder below it so your oil udder can
13:33drip into it and not make a mess. This can stick right on your toolbox of the magnet or there's a
13:39nail hole there for it as well. And that's so cool. That makes it easy to save all the oil and you don't
13:43waste any. Yeah, absolutely. And we find that with this oil that you'd otherwise spill on your car,
13:49wipe up with a rag on the ground, you can actually recycle a little more oil. And a lot of our
13:54customers that work at dealerships or are some customers that work for companies that have fleet
13:59vehicles have found that they're able to recycle a lot more oil to be able to better work towards
14:05environmental standards and regulations that help them save when it comes tax time. So business owners,
14:11if you want to get your ISO certification, you can either build an entire solar farm or you can get
14:16the oil udder and you can check off the same box on your taxes. It's worth the same amount. Now tell
14:21me, Elliot, if you've got a filter that's mounted at a strange angle, how does the oil udder deal with
14:26that? So on strange angles here, I have the three inch udder. You're going to put it on here and you're
14:31going to loosen the filter slowly. And just like if you were to tip a coffee cup slowly, coffee's going to
14:36run down the side. It's going to decant down the filter and go right into the oil udder. So just
14:41make sure to go slow and you'll catch the flow. One vehicle that's notoriously tricky is this Dodge
14:46Ram pickup truck. Now we're going to step over here and see how Kevin is doing. All right, Kevin,
14:51I noticed you went for the oil filter first and that's kind of opposite of what I've always been
14:55taught. Yeah, and it works really well with the oil udder because the inside is going to get oily.
15:00You want it to be tacky and clean to start and it helps to take the oil filter off. It can be a little
15:05tricky with this vehicle and some others. Yes, occasionally the blocks have oil coolers,
15:09trucks have oil coolers, other attachments, lines with the engine and there can be a column of oil
15:14that will drop as soon as that oil filter disconnects and having the udder position
15:17underneath will catch that oil. So it becomes a funnel there and everything drains nicely
15:21and it's also a removal tool then when it comes time to take the filter completely off. Yes, it is.
15:26With the stickiness and the tactfulness of the rubber, it'll help you grip it and take it off really
15:31easily. Well, it's as simple as that. It's so cool. There's no oil on the sway bar, no oil on the
15:35frame and no oil on your hands. It's the oil udder that makes oil changing really simple and really
15:41clean. Check them out at oiludder.com. We're still on the gas pedal because Motorhead Garage,
15:46presented by Steel Rubber Products, continues right after this. We'll see you in a minute.
15:51Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products, brought to you by Spray Gunner. Best products,
15:57ship fast. Suds Lab, car care for all science-based detailing. And by Truck Claws, unstuck, unmatched,
16:07unbeatable. Hello there. We're hanging out with Guy Olson from PFS Performance Fuel Specialist. Guy,
16:16last time you were here you were talking about things we can do every day to maintain our fuel
16:20system and keep things running well. What's some advice you can give folks? Well, you know we've been
16:23talking about our additives, gas and diesel, but one of the things that an additive can't do is
16:28replace good maintenance, good fuel, or plain old common sense, right? But we also want to help you
16:34understand the issues. That's our main goal. My goal isn't just to sell you something. I want to educate
16:40you, teach you so you can make good decisions on your own. Last time you were here you were talking
16:44about anti-gel products and you were talking about fuel blends when it comes to diesel. So what about the
16:49emergency products out there when your engine gels up and you are in trouble? So we're firm believers
16:56in being proactive, right? Treat your fuel, treat it the way we recommend, follow our guidelines. You can
17:03get online our when to blend guidelines. You won't need an emergency use product. That's the goal. But
17:10one of the common misconceptions with emergency use products is that if it de-gels and de-ices it must be a
17:18great anti-gel. And then there's nothing could be farther from the truth. First off, these are emergency
17:24use products only, right? Well, why are they only emergency? Well, first off, because they're generally
17:29really caustic, really hard on your equipment. And just because they de-gel doesn't mean they're an anti-gel.
17:36As a matter of fact, they're not an anti-gel. So don't be thinking about using these all the time.
17:42We don't have one simply because if you follow our guidelines, you're not going to need one.
17:46What about filter and line icing? Alcohol, is that a solution to that? Well,
17:52your manufacturers do not want any alcohol in your fuels. None of our additives have the alcohol
17:57themselves. Our goal is to keep it clean. We talked in our summer segment about using an additive every
18:02time, removing the water a little at a time. So when winter gets here, we don't have any icing because
18:07we've removed the water ahead of time. On your PFS bottle, it says complete formula. What does that mean?
18:13That means we're covering all the areas of fuel that you really need to be covering, whether it's
18:19stability, using the antioxidants, lubricity, which is about 25% increase, taking care of the objectors,
18:27the combustion chambers, the soot levels, the DPF unit, keeping that clean. Our summer additive power
18:33plus is the same as our winter. We've just added the anti-gel to it. So you're getting the complete
18:39formula in all of the products. You don't always know the problem you have. You can't look at your
18:43fuel and say, this is the problem I have. So we treat all of them. So do you recommend using both
18:49products? No, no. The summer product, the power plus only for summer and the the arctic extreme
18:56only for the winter. That makes a lot of sense. Of course, everybody can use this in their vehicle,
19:02but you love fleets. How can they benefit from what you have at PFS? Well, part of it,
19:06when we do our training for the fleets, we go and do about a three and a half hour seminar where we
19:10teach them to take care of their fuel and take control of their fuel. One of the things we have
19:15is we have bulk so you can buy in any size. You can treat your bulk tanks ahead of time. But we also
19:20have tools that can help you. One of the things is our our hydrometer. We have these made for us.
19:25It allows you to quickly and easily check the blend of a fuel before it is put into your bulk tank.
19:32Do refiners actually make different fuels for winter and summer, warm weather, cold weather?
19:36Yeah, that that's a great question. So when the winter around October 1st, they'll start making
19:40what they call a winter blend. But it's not a blend. And so in the industry, I refer to it as a
19:47formula, their winter formula or recipe. It's designed for winter use. So many people confuse
19:54winter blend with a blended fuel and it's not. If it's a blended fuel, it'll either say it on the pump
19:59or you will manually be blending that yourself. A lot of fleets out there, folks that own fleets,
20:04they're bidding out for the fuel. They want to go for the lowest price. Why do you discourage that?
20:08Yeah, well, because you don't always know what you're getting. And what we've seen in the past is
20:12if you order a blend because the cost of number one is so expensive that you cheat just a little
20:18bit on the blend or maybe don't give exactly what it is, you can get the lower price and get the bid.
20:25And what I say is find somebody who will take care of you, who's dedicated to you. You're not going for the
20:32cheaper price and he's the guy you want to use. But we do recommend every time you get a load of
20:37fuel, you check that before it goes into your tank. I tell you what, Guy has forgotten more about fuel
20:42than I will ever know. You can tap into this information. You can sign up for his newsletter
20:46and if you do that, you're going to get free shipping on anything over $30. And you can also go
20:51to the website, find out more about the technology. Plus you can go to YouTube and find some of our older
20:55episodes where Guy appears and he's going to give you a whole lot of information there. Motorhead Garage,
21:00presented by Steel Rubber Products is everywhere you stream TV and video and we're here in this spot
21:04every single week. We look forward to seeing you then. Until then, so long and drive safely.
