After a snowy Black Friday, Sunday is expected to bring snow, ice and cold rain to much of the Northeast.
Transcript
00:00White knuckle driving out there. Last night, this is not fun. We've all experienced it if you live in the northern U.S. at some point.
00:07The good news is that this lake effect snow will be fading, at least for this episode.
00:12I really do not like driving in snow. And, you know, a lot of people with it intensifying like Thanksgiving Day across the northeast parts of the Buckeye State.
00:21And the plows, they were out all night as early risers took advantage of some of those Black Friday deals.
00:26The plows are starting to really ramp up. We'll certainly be seeing a lot of those next week.
00:31Absolutely. So we can take you to New York City here. And overall, actually, I think I have this is Cleveland.
00:37Yes, Cleveland Rocks. It does. And, you know, visibility looks pretty good right now.
00:42But look at those waves way off in the distance. Yeah. Oh, yeah. OK.
00:45I couldn't see if I tell if that was snow, but I think we're seeing maybe like a combination of some of those white caps and some snow on the buildings and the birds.
00:52They're going all over the place. They're lucky they were parted for Thanksgiving and they're like, you know what?
00:57I'm so glad I didn't grow up to be a turkey. All right. Let's take you into those top snow reports here.
01:02Northeast Ohio certainly making the list. Yorkshire, New York, Tupper Lake, New York into the upper eight, nine inches into Chagrin Falls, Ohio, over eight inches of snow.
01:12Perrysburg, New York, seven and a half in Elgram, Pennsylvania, seven inches of snow.
01:17So a nice thump for Thanksgiving Day. And it's still been coming on down.
01:22You look back over the last couple of hours is a downwind of Lake Ontario, especially.
01:27But it looks like another band here may make its way back over Lake Erie and send some more snow back into western New York.
01:34So skiing was on your mind for the Thanksgiving weekend here upon us.
01:39Certainly some fresh snow and cold enough conditions.
01:41But we will be watching rain returning on Sunday. That may impact some outdoor plans.
01:45Some of these bands are extensive enough to send some flurries back into Boston and New York City this afternoon.
01:52Otherwise, gusty winds will continue to howl here 30 to 40 miles per hour.
01:56If you pick today to hang up the holiday decorations.
02:00Should have done it earlier in November, right?
02:01Bernie and I had been talking about that early into the month.
02:04I know it was like, you know, several days or several weeks before the Christmas season here.
02:09But I'm just happy ours is done.
02:10Don't want to be out in these winter conditions here with the wind really whipping.
02:14And the snow falling for many.
02:17High temperatures below the historical average.
02:19We're only 33 today in Pittsburgh.
02:2138 in Albany.
02:2236 in Burlington.
02:24A very winter field this final Friday of November.
02:27Temperatures along the I-95 corridor will make it to the 40s.
02:30But actually, the real field temperatures will be into the 30s.
02:34Thanks to this gusty wind.
02:3630 to 40 miles per hour in New York City and Boston.
02:38In an airport like JFK, that may be just enough to cause some minor delays, especially as the volume picks up here for maybe some travelers by this afternoon.
02:48Any unsecured objects will also be blowing around.
02:50We have like a forklift inflatable Santa.
02:53And as I left work this morning, I didn't really see much of that.
02:56Not sure if there was a tear or something.
02:57But the wind can certainly be tough for those inflatable decorations, especially if you live in a pretty windy area.
03:04Chillier, sunnier tomorrow if you're bundled up.
03:07I don't think it's going to be all that bad to be outside.
03:10Small business Saturday.
03:11I think that this is actually pretty nice weather locally here.
03:14Again, you'll just want to be bundled up, especially if you're making your way out about town before the next round of snow moves in.
03:19And this is going to be a big story here across the Midwest.
03:22For the Northeast, it's mostly going to be rain, and it's on Sunday.
03:26So Saturday is the pick of the weekend here.
03:28With sunshine, it's still chilly, and then temperatures come up a little bit on Sunday by the afternoon.
03:34So for most of us, this will be rain.
03:35We will watch a little bit of some icier concerns, especially down towards West Virginia and snow in the higher elevations across New England.
