From Delaware up to Massachusetts, parts of the Northeast that have missed out on other snowstorms so far this season are likely to have their first measurable snow on the morning of Dec. 14.
Transcript
00:00The Northeast has seen some snow and we finally are going to fill in that snow hole over I-95.
00:04Yeah, it's the same places that have been getting snow over and over again and others getting rain or nothing.
00:09That streak ends this weekend.
00:11So let's talk about what's happened in the last 24 hours, then we'll look ahead.
00:14It's been a mix of that last clipper Jeff was talking about and lake effect snow
00:18because we really haven't been able to get rid of that as the last couple of days have gone on really the whole week.
00:23So New York, Perrysburg near Buffalo, that clearly was lake effect snow.
00:28So everywhere else, it mainly has been from the clipper that we picked up a couple of inches of snow,
00:33but more is yet to come.
00:35And really, when we take a look at radar and clouds the last couple of hours,
00:38the lake effect snow has not come to an end.
00:40It's not really going to as we head into tomorrow.
00:43But taking a look at the alerts that have been issued gives you an idea of the areas we're most concerned about for impacts from the snow,
00:49especially the Ohio Valley.
00:50That's where we have the winter storm warnings, but we have lake effect snow warnings in this teal color,
00:54winter weather advisories in between in that gray shade overall.
01:00So let's break down exactly what to expect here, starting with the lake effect snow, because that's what we see first.
01:06We are ramping up the snow totals here.
01:08Throughout the week, we've really ended at the 3-6 category, but we now have a 6-12 to add on here.
01:15Very small areas downwind of the lakes where we get the heaviest lake effect snow bands.
01:19You know how that goes.
01:20Let's take a look at future radar and how it all plays out.
01:23So, like I said, first we have the lake effect snow.
01:25Then you'll start to see the clipper move in as we go throughout our Saturday.
01:28It comes from the north central, dives down into the Ohio Valley, and then we get into the I-95.
01:35Now, here's the thing.
01:36Most of us were 1-3.
01:37Boston, you're going to trend closer to the 1 than the 3.
01:40It's looking like the snow really struggles to get far enough north to really add on the snow totals,
01:45but still expecting the first measurable snow of the season.
01:48And further south, though, we do have a small 3-6 area, south Jersey, down into portions of the Delmarva Peninsula.
01:55That's where we'll get some of the heaviest of the snowfall.
01:58Specifically, if we look at New York City here, 1-3 inches, you are solidly in that category.
02:04And we'll look at our probabilities here starting Saturday evening, trending towards the overnight hours, ending late Sunday morning.
