TOBAGO INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY

Tobago’s International Men's day was observed with a walk from the Fairfield Complex, to the Scarborough Esplanade.   Founder of International Men's day Dr Jerome Teelucksingh called for peace and not war, he called on men to speak up. Elizabeth Williams was there and has this report.

00:00Right now we have a crisis amongst men in the Caribbean.

00:05We have many men who are staying silent regarding the U.S. military presence in the Caribbean.

00:10There might be a war between Venezuela and the United States and I find that the men

00:15are silent.

00:16I would like the men to speak up, our men don't realize the repercussions and the dangers

00:21of a war.

00:22I would like to see peace within the Caribbean and the only way we can do that is if our

00:27men speak up, either through a referendum or through marches like this.

00:31We cannot allow our leaders, presidents and privatists to drag us into a war that will

00:36affect our men, women and children.

00:39Dr. Tilak Singh said, the capacity for more positive role models in society is necessary

00:45for men.

00:46Positive role models, that's what we want, positive masculinity and today I want to salute

00:53all those men who are fighting, fighting in the trenches, they are fighting addiction.

00:58I want to salute all the men who are fighting for these boys.
