The TTPS welcomed its newest cohort of officers on Monday, as Government officials touted what they describe as real progress in the fight against crime.
At the Passing-Out Parade, Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander pointed to improved detection rates, a historic dip in murders, and stronger international partnerships.
00:00It was a day of pride, discipline and national duty as the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service showcased its strength and capability on parade.
00:11Today is the day when we place the safety, dignity and future of this beloved Twin Island nation in the hands of men and women who have chosen a life of service.
00:30A new batch of police recruits now step forward to join the ranks, trained, tested and ready to serve.
00:37You take your place among men and women who stand between order and chaos, between hope and fear, between safety and danger. Officers, look around. Your uniform is not just fabric. They are a declaration.
00:58Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander says the passing out ceremony comes at a time when the government has seen tangible improvements in national security.
01:08But today, the tide is turning. Since this government took office on May, in May 2025, we have seen real measurable progress.
01:21Progress. Between May and September of this year, there were 4,494 reported crimes in Trinidad and Tobago. This figure is big. Oh yes indeed. But hear what matters. One in every three of those crimes were solved.
01:49He says more offenders are being held, more cases closed and August recorded the lowest murder toll in a decade.
01:56These are not just numbers. They are lives saved, families spared and communities beginning to feel that change is possible.
02:10The minister also credited deeper cooperation with international partners, particularly the United States, for strengthening local crime-fighting efforts.
02:20We are fed up with the destruction of our country by murders, drug addicts and human trafficking. But you know what? We have strong partners. Strong partners in the Americans.
02:38They are in our region taking down major international crime in the open waters. They are going about seeking after the big fish. And we, the government, and many law-abiding citizens of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, we are indeed grateful.
