00:00Almost a week after Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Besessa announced she had instructed that all fets at the Brown-Lara Stadium in South Trinidad be stopped as the noise has become unbearable for residents.
00:12The Prime Minister said on the social media platform X that on Monday she instructed the Attorney General and the Minister of Sport to implement an immediate ban on the hosting of all fets at the Haisley Crawford Stadium and the Jean-Pierre complex.
00:29However, the Prime Minister also said exceptions will be granted only for events taking place from the Thursday before Carnival Monday and Tuesday until the Saturday after and additionally all fets and parties booked at Ministry of Sport facilities may begin no earlier than 12 noon and must end promptly at 10pm.
00:55A few hours later, the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs said in a statement that exceptions to the ban on fets and parties at the Haisley Crawford Stadium and the Jean-Pierre complex may be considered on a case-by-case basis for events scheduled between the Thursday before Carnival and Carnival Tuesday subject to strict guidelines.
01:16The Sport and Youth Affairs Ministry said all approved events must be held between 12 noon and 10pm only.
01:23The Ministry further said in accordance with these changes, Sport ET will officially notify all promoters, agents and organizations and that existing bookings that do not comply with this new policy will be cancelled and down payments will be refunded to applicants.
01:40Prime Minister Passau said the NCC, the National Carnival Commission has also been directed to engage experienced acoustic engineers to properly design sound systems at their venues, ensuring that noise and vibrations from these events are effectively minimized for neighboring communities.
01:58On its Facebook page, the NCC said Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival is a formidable power in the hands of a people gearing up for celebration like no other in 2026 and pointed out that with 90 days to go, they are preparing to host the greatest show on earth once more.
02:16The Promoters Association of Trinidad and Tobago had expressed their concerns about the cancellation of all Carnival events at the Brown-Laura Stadium.
02:25Last week, Prime Minister Passau promised that before the end of this year, there will be the passage of the fireworks legislation in Parliament and that in addition, enhanced noise pollution laws will be introduced to regulate designated quiet hours as well as new restrictions on fets, music trucks, residential parties and bars.
