00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05More rain across the country today as it pushes northwards.
00:09Rain warnings in force across southern counties of England and South Wales and the West Country
00:13as rain returns from the south.
00:16Now this batch of wet weather will turn heavy as we head through the morning and into the afternoon.
00:21It's breezy everywhere but the winds will also be a feature of the weather.
00:24Picking up to gale force along this south coast, gusty winds at that
00:28and the combination of the wind and the rain causing problems on the roads
00:32through this morning and into this afternoon.
00:35The rain then returns to western areas as this low pressure system pushes ever northwards.
00:41And if you are out and about first thing this morning across Scotland you may run into some heavy showers.
00:46Drier skies across the east as well as the south.
00:49Cloudy across most of England and Wales low clouds at that.
00:52And notice a little rain just creeping in across the southwest of Northern Ireland.
00:56A little rain also further south.
00:58It's cleared most of the southeast but a bit of a damp start for places such as East Sussex
01:02as well as Kent, Severn Estuary as well.
01:06However, it's really this morning where we'll see that cloud continue to thicken
01:10and eventually we'll see the onset of more wet weather.
01:14So through the morning those winds will gradually pick up towards the south.
01:18You can see the rain arriving across the west country's central southern parts of England and then Wales.
01:24The rain then pushes in across Northern Ireland and western Scotland.
01:28Heavy though across the bulk of England and Wales as it pushes northwards.
01:32So the risk of some flooding here.
01:35Through the afternoon then we'll see that dry weather be replaced by wet weather across the northeast of Scotland.
01:41Probably after dark across the far northeast.
01:44The winds as I said will be an issue through today.
01:47Particularly across that south coast and south west coast with some gusty winds through the afternoon
01:53and in evening time as the rain becomes yet again confined to more eastern counties.
01:58But still some sporadic bursts further west.
02:01Through evening time watch out for some heavy downpours across western and central parts of Scotland.
02:06A few showers running in across Northern Ireland and this wet weather eventually reaching
02:10Caithness, Aberdeenshire, Orkney and then through the evening it will push in across Shetland.
02:17So all of this wet weather is moving eastwards and northwards.
02:22We hang on to some wet conditions through the latter part of the evening across the far southeast
02:26but it will dry up elsewhere before showers rattle in across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:32Northern England seeing a few Irish seacoast down towards the west country.
02:36One or two scattered showers here.
02:38Through Friday though some brighter skies Midlands, south eastwards but these showers
02:42will be frequent across the north as well as the west and again the risk of thunder.
02:47Some heavy downpours can't be ruled out but they'll be fairly scattered through the afternoon
02:50and some drier weather across mid Wales towards much of England.
02:55Clearer skies here temperatures arrive 9 to 11 degrees Celsius.
03:00All changes again on Saturday yet another band of rain moves in.
03:04Not as extensive as the one we're experiencing through the next 12 hours and then eventually
03:10we'll see a little rain on Sunday.
03:13A lot of clouds generally towards the west.
03:16Temperatures 7 to 9 degrees Celsius but the weather will change into next week.
03:21We lose high pressure and we gain a ridge of high pressure.
03:25More details about that.
03:26Check out our 10 day trend.
03:29So Christmas week looks like there will be a change on its way.
03:32It could turn colder as well though.
03:33I'll see you later.
