00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update this Wednesday evening, which is chilly outside without breaks of rain.
00:07Let me take you through the bigger picture.
00:09We had a ridge of high pressure across us through this morning, a frost for many, before this cloud and rain moved in.
00:16It's extending eastwards through this evening and overnight, and then the air turned milder through into Thursday.
00:23But the winds pick up some strength. We'll see gales, if not severe gales, across the north and the west of Scotland.
00:28A yellow warning here, with some mountain turbulence, the direction of the wind coming in from the west and hopping over the highlands.
00:35The air then turns colder, particularly across more northern and central areas.
00:39Here are your temperatures this evening, 5 or 6 across England and Wales, 10 possibly across Northern Ireland.
00:46And they'll slowly rise through this evening and overnight, as that mild air sweeps across from the southwest.
00:52It does mean also lots of low cloud, quite a wind towards the northwest and outbreaks of rain.
00:59So the rain comes and goes through this evening and overnight, and even where it clears, it remains murky with low cloud and also some patchy rain and drizzle.
01:09At the same time, the rain will be persistent, particularly across western Scotland, with some heavier downpours likely.
01:15And that wind also a feature of the weather into Thursday morning.
01:21So Thursday morning, dawns mild and also cloudy.
01:25Outbreaks of rain, especially across more northern and western areas.
01:29And that wind continues to arrive from the southwest.
01:33Through the day, we'll see a fair amount of cloud.
01:37Notice there's a back edge to that weather front, which will cause perhaps some problems with some squally rain.
01:42Certainly strong winds and some heavier downpours as it extends across Scotland towards northern England as well as Wales.
01:49Clearer skies then towards the end of the day across Scotland and Northern Ireland, but that wind will kick in.
01:56It's going to get stronger and it's going to get more gusty, with heavy showers which could turn thundery.
02:02Look at these temperatures though, 13, 14 degrees Celsius.
02:05A much milder end to the week relative to the beginning of the week.
02:09However, that's not the end of the story.
02:11That low pressure slowly clears off the scene and then we'll see a return of some colder air through into the weekend.
02:20At the same time, low pressure will track across England and Wales, causing perhaps some problems with some heavier pulses of rain and also some stronger winds.
02:30More details of that on our 10-day trend this week.
02:33It's with Alex Birkhill.
02:34Back to Thursday evening, that wind warning across the north and the west of Scotland expect high waves and gales.
02:40The rain clears the far south-east of England into the early hours of Thursday morning and some clearer skies to start the day, if not some sunshine.
02:49But showers waiting in the wings and extending across Wales towards northern and central parts of England and a lot of wet weather here as well with those gales, Scotland as well as Northern Ireland.
03:00So most places seeing some showery bursts of rain, temperatures 10 to 13 degrees Celsius.
03:05More details, as I said, check out our 10-day trend and I'll see you again soon.
