2025 Supercross WSX Canada SX1 Race 2
Transcript
00:00Freezy, their bikes are quiet. Isn't that wild to think?
00:04They're just quiet right now. They're just setting their quiet until they turn the throttle and it goes.
00:11It's not a matter of how you get to that checkered flag. It's just getting there, right?
00:15Oh yeah.
00:19They were 9th and 10th in race number 1. We'll see how they do here in race number 2 as we're ready to drop the gate.
00:25It's not going to be Tomek. It's Cooper on the 32 right to the front of the field.
00:36And then it's Roxen and Tomek bar to bar.
00:39And some of the riders on the inside of the first turn were so far inside they went over the berm right there at the bottom of your screen.
00:49That was wild.
00:50Yeah, kicking dirt right up into our laps. Here's Roxen trying to push the pressure on Cooper,
00:54but he got a little loose in that corner and he's going to have to follow him through this rhythm lane.
00:59Meanwhile, look at Anderson putting the heat on the backside of Tomek.
01:03Boy, Jason Anderson has come alive here tonight.
01:06This is what we wanted to see. The Tomek-Roxen rivalry, the rivalry that's been around for a decade and a half.
01:13But it's Justin Cooper who was the fastest in Super Bowl, picked it up late in race 1.
01:17Jeff, can he continue that momentum into this one? Because he had some slow laps early, but this is a great start to race, too.
01:24You see Cooper jumping through the wolves and Roxen taking more of the traditional, hitting every one line through there.
01:31Here he comes, Jason looking to the inside. Cooper can sense he's there.
01:36Roxen is about a bike length behind now. He's right up alongside of him.
01:39Watch him go inside. He's got a cut under.
01:41He's going to cut back. He tries. Cooper gets a great drive out of the corner and the 32 hangs on to the lead.
01:48But guess who's coming along for the ride? That number one Red Bull KTM at Tomek closing in on the backside of Roxen.
01:55It's going to be a three-rider fight for the lead here.
01:57Here we go. Roxen's got the inside. He's going to triple in there and block out.
02:01Roxen goes high. No, it's going to be Cooper on the high side. Roxen to the inside. Still not going to put Cooper away.
02:07Nice job, Justin Cooper. He actually gets a foot off the peg, though.
02:11And he tripled in standing, staying low.
02:13Roxen inside. New leader here in Vancouver. It's Ken Roxen out front of the 94.
02:18He was perfect in Argentina, trying to get a win here in Canada.
02:23And look at the flow that the number one, the reigning champ, Eli Tomek, he is right there on the back tire.
02:29Cooper looks over his shoulder. Sees him there.
02:32The heat is on for Cooper. Roxen already pulled it away.
02:35Tomek wants to get up there and fight with that Suzuki.
02:38He's going to dispose of the 32 first, and he does so right there.
02:42Wow. All right, here we go.
02:45Here it is.
02:46Now, how fast can Tomek reel in Roxen?
02:49We're halfway through race number two.
02:52We want to see this battle for the lead heat up.
02:55Tomek is charging now.
02:57And I feel like Ken Roxen has some interesting lines on the track.
03:02Anderson, still in fourth, trying to catch up to the backside of Cooper here, see if he can put a fight on for third.
03:12Tomek almost in the exact same line as Roxen threw the whoops that time.
03:16But, Daniel, what I want to see this next time around the finish line, they've got one more turn.
03:22Take a look at those lap times.
03:23It was 55 flat for Roxen last time around, but I think they're going to have to dial it up.
03:29Oh, they did.
03:2954-1.
03:30That was almost a second faster.
03:33Tomek, a 53.9.
03:35Yeah, they know.
03:36They both know they've got to go faster than they've gone all night.
03:39And here's what's going to be interesting.
03:41Tomek passed Anderson in race one, so he's made one real move on the track.
03:46Roxen came from way back.
03:47He's got multiple passing options that he's used, but now he gets to play defense and see if Eli can make a move on a guy going his speed.
03:55This is going to be a massive three or four laps right here.
03:58Both guys know how important it is.
04:00Justin Cooper's sitting there in the shadows watching back, but Titan on Titan here in race number two.
04:05Setting up what could be a wild 20-26 for these two as they fight for a world championship again.
04:12They went bar to bar for the title last year.
04:15The two-time world champion, Roxen, had to hand the number one plate over to Tomek.
04:21And Roxen would like to make a statement here tonight in Canada.
04:25Both riders pretty much the exact same lap time, 54.4.
04:30Just mirroring each other, and they find that they're at the limit right there.
04:36Look at that line that Tomek was doing, tripling out of the turn.
04:39Might have caught up a little bit.
04:41Yeah, he did, Jeff.
04:42He definitely did.
04:44The gap between Roxen and Tomek, 1.134.
04:49Roxen getting into that tough block a little bit there.
04:53Different rhythm there, too.
04:55Eli got that triple after the little double out of the corner, so different rhythms.
04:58What I like, though, is that they are both pushing so hard.
05:02Oh, man, you can see Tomek.
05:04The other thing I've noticed here, guys, and Tomek, again, getting wide in that corner there.
05:09He hits another one of the tough blocks.
05:11Tomek's bike looks a little bit more settled in this race than it did in race number one,
05:15and you know he's pushing just as hard.
05:17It just goes to show they continue to work on that bike.
05:21And, guys, Ken Roxen, Pipes Motorsports Suzuki, just at the fastest lap of the race of 53.8.
05:30He was four-tenths of a second quicker than Tomek.
05:33Now Tomek's closing it right back up a little bit,
05:35but that tells me that Roxen is really comfortable on that progressive Suzuki right now.
05:40And we're about a lap and a half away from the checkered flag here.
05:44Can Roxen hang on, or can Tomek reel him in?
05:48Suzuki versus KTM here.
05:51Roxen's been in this position so many times.
05:53Both these matches the whole...
05:55Oh, man, look at the back end of Tomek's bike moving through there.
05:58They're both all over the place.
06:00I mean, I want to see the face of those whoops right now
06:02because, you know, it's just a minefield out there right now
06:05that the riders are having to deal with.
06:07Two of the best riders ever in the history of Supercross
06:10showing what they're made of here tonight at BC Place
06:13as we're on the final lap.
06:15Tomek comes back down to earth and will grab a handful of throttle
06:18and try to chase down Roxen again.
06:20And Tomek missed that rhythm section before the finish line.
06:23Oh, that costed big time.
06:24Oh, yeah.
06:24Look at the gap here now between Roxen and Tomek.
06:28Kenny very comfortable out front on that PMG Suzuki.
06:32The big test here between these two
06:36as they set sail for a world championship again.
06:40Roxen hunting for his third.
06:42Tomek trying to get his second.
06:45Well, and this will be the hardest that Tomek's had to push
06:49on this new machine.
06:51He's really challenged.
06:52And the other thing is you think about the overall battle
06:55for the win in the GP here tonight.
06:58Roxen finished second to Tomek in race one.
07:00Now they're flipping it back.
07:01They're going to be dead even going into the third
07:03and final race of the night.
07:05It isn't that going to be fun to watch.
07:07Check their flag, and they light the candles
07:09with Ken Roxen here in race number two
07:12for SX1 at the Canadian GP.
07:17Boy, the storyline gets even more intense here in SX1.
07:21And I'll tell you what, Eli Tomek and his team,
07:25this is going to be their first big test, guys.
07:27That bike was not working great in the whoops.
07:30He was skipping left, skipping right.
07:32I'll bet you they're going right back right now.
07:34They're going to review.
07:35This is their first chance to have their communication tested
07:37because that bike is going to have to be a little bit better
07:40in the whoops.
07:40That's where his mistakes came late.
07:42And I've got to correct myself.
07:43I was so excited over the fact
07:44that these guys finished one, too.
07:46It's actually Anderson.
07:47Anderson, yep.
07:47They finished second in race number one.
07:49So help me do a little math in here.
07:51So going into the final,
07:53we're going to be separated by one.
07:54Yeah, Tomek's got a point advantage over Ken Roxen.
08:00All right, Kristen.
08:03Ken Roxen, well done.
08:05My question for you,
08:07how did you balance your offense against overriding
08:10while also having to keep Eli Tomek behind you?
08:13Well, so, like, my game plan for the second moto
08:17was to actually ride cleaner, ride calmer.
08:19Earlier, I got a bad start,
08:21and I had to override a little bit.
08:23Not ideal on this track.
08:24Very slippery, so rocky.
08:26Like, overall, these are probably
08:28my least favorite conditions, like, ever.
08:30So I'm struggling a bit out there,
08:32but, you know, I made a bunch of mistakes earlier,
08:34and did ride well, though,
08:36enough to get up to third after a bad start.
08:37So this one, I just had a really good start,
08:40made a pass happen,
08:41and was able to just ride my own race,
08:43which is, it's so key with how loose it is
08:46and how slippery it is.
08:47I mean, it's treacherous out there.
08:48So stoked for this one.
08:50A clean pass on Justin Cooper earlier in the race.
08:53How did you strategize that overtake?
08:57I don't actually remember where I passed him.
09:00These are quick races.
09:01I don't blame you.
09:02Yeah, yeah.
09:03So I don't know.
09:03I'm just kind of trying to go wherever
09:05the guy in front of me is.
