00:00And tonight, we do have college football outside of the MAAC on a Thursday night.
00:04That's Troy and Old Dominion.
00:06This game's going to take place at 7.30 p.m. Eastern tonight.
00:08Opening line, below 10 points.
00:11Where does it sit game day?
00:12Over 10 points.
00:1311.5 listed across the board, and a total, that's 52.5 points.
00:18Troy, ODU tonight.
00:20What's the spread line for you, Joe?
00:22Well, this is interesting, Donnie, this line here, right?
00:25Opens up Old, ODU, 10.5.
00:28We're up to 12, even 12.5 in some spots.
00:31But, Donnie, look at the records of these two teams there.
00:35It's not like you've got a 7-2 team taking on a, you know, a 1-8 team.
00:41No, you've got two teams that are 4-1 in the Sun Belt in conference play,
00:456-3 altogether on the season.
00:48So how is one team a 12, 12.5 point favorite over the other?
00:54And the answer is the underlying metrics here.
00:57I mean, neither of these teams have played since November 1st, but ODU has clearly been
01:03the better team.
01:04The problem that they've had this year, Donnie, is they've turned the ball over 20 times.
01:1020 times.
01:11You want to talk about incredibly bad luck, Donnie?
01:14They have lost 11 of their 18 fumbles.
01:18That's not, that's just bad luck.
01:20They have this kid, Colton Joseph, at quarterback, Donnie.
01:23I love him.
01:24He's one of the more exciting quarterbacks that you'll see in college football here today.
01:2919 TD passes.
01:30He also has nine interceptions here.
01:33So if you take the turnovers away, my goodness, I mean, ODU is a absolute monster here.
01:40Even despite all those turnovers, Donnie, they're still 4-1 in conference.
01:44Bottom line is there is a reason why Troy is a 12-point underdog in this one.
01:50And ODU for me, as long as they don't turn the ball over.
01:54Let's get to win one on the SEC, Joe.
01:56Saturday, a noon kickoff here.
01:58South Carolina travels down to Kyle Field to take on Texas A&M.
02:02This line opened up around 16 and a half, Joe.
02:04No more.
02:0518 and a halves and 19 and a halves now in most of the marketplaces here.
02:09A total 47 and a half.
02:11A&M looks to hold on to that number three spot.
02:13A perfect 9 and 0.
02:15The spread line for South Carolina, Texas A&M for you, Joe, is what?
02:18How did we go from 16 and a half in an open all the way up to 19 and a half here?
02:25And it looks to be a little bit of buyback, especially given the fact that South Carolina
02:31here, they fired Mike Shuler, the offensive coordinator, finally.
02:35This is the guy that many people credit with ruining Lenora Sellers' final year of college
02:42football.
02:43But they also fired the offensive line coach, the wide receiver coach.
02:47They have basically gone through the entire offensive staff here.
02:51So it does look like Shane Beamer and company, Beamer rather, will go ahead and get a new
02:57play call or new everything here.
02:59And this number is so ridiculous, Donnie, because South Carolina on the road is never lost by
03:04this many points.
03:05I say what you want about them.
03:07They've been extremely competitive here.
03:09And I get it.
03:10A&M has been impressive, Donnie.
03:13But to win by three touchdowns?
03:16I'm not seeing it here, Donnie.
03:18The only time South Carolina's lost by this many points, it's because Lenora Sellers got
03:23hurt in the first quarter and didn't play the rest of the game.
03:26A little college football talk here.
03:27We've been talking for most of the show, too, about Michigan State, which didn't really
03:31come up on the football landscape right now.
03:32Bad football team.
03:33Maybe they'll get it together.
03:34We don't know.
03:35But I always love when the NCAA sinks their teeth into a university.
03:38It's like, well, what was the penalty for?
03:41What did they actually do?
03:42And what is the outcome here?
03:43And why are we penalizing the player's future?
03:45Which I agree with.
03:46It's not fair if I show up at Michigan State for something that happened five years ago
03:49that I'm going to get penalized for.
03:51But there's no real way to go about punishing football programs.
03:55Again, Michigan maybe had the worst cheating scandal I've ever seen in the history of college
03:58football.
03:59They won a championship.
04:00They're fine today.
04:01They'll pay money.
04:02They'll lose losses.
04:03Hey, Harbaugh, you can't come back for 10 years and coach a football game here.
04:07Well, he's never coming back.
04:08But the Michigan State one does make me laugh.
04:09And also, so many times throughout the years, like the NCAA is asking the university to turn
04:14themselves in, and then they take mercy.
04:16We'll give up a bowl game this year just so we can play and stop the madness.
04:20But Michigan State, slight penalties here.
04:22Nobody cares.
04:23NCAA, just go away.
04:24It's just, I mean, you're basically vacating 14 wins that nobody even remembers Michigan
04:33State had.
04:35And now poor Jonathan Smith, who is the new head coach there, you basically wiped away
04:40any wins he's actually had since he took over the program.
04:43So it's a poor guy here.
04:45It's not a good day.
04:47And it's not a good look by the NCAA in an era in which you're paying millions upon millions
04:54of dollars to these kids now.
04:55And you're slapping them on the wrist, vacating wins for something, for plane tickets and hotel
05:02stays for recruits four years ago.
05:04Come on.
05:06It's, I'll tell you, the person that it affects the most, and it's not even the bottom line.
05:10It's like, again, like you're a coach at a university.
05:12It's like, wait, I really didn't do anything strong, but they're taking my wins away because
05:15the players were here when I took over the program.
05:17And then when you're like old and you sit back like, hey, grandpa, how did you do it?
05:21Michigan State says you didn't win any games there.
05:24That's not true, grandson.
05:25I won six games there.
05:26They took away from me at this point.
05:28Makes you remember that at this point.
05:29But Michigan State on probation, they don't factor into the national title picture.
05:33So not really a big deal.
05:34But I'll tell you who does factor into it.
05:36The college football playoff rankings released on November 11th, Ohio State won, Indiana
05:41two, A&M three, Alabama four, Georgia number five here.
05:44The big boys up top.
05:46And now we are calling Indiana big boys here, pulling their big boy pants up.
05:51They're going to end up taking Ohio State on in that Big Ten championship game here.
05:54But if I said today, Joe, any of those first five, they all get in, right, to the college
05:59football playoff.
06:00They're not going to have any meltdowns late season, are they?
06:03Oh, well, they might very well here, but it doesn't shine.
06:08We're going to know a little something about next couple of weeks are going to be big.
06:11But you got to love Greg Sankey, the SEC, you know, the big the big wig there running
06:18the SEC, who told everybody that he sees in the very near future a scenario in which the
06:24SEC, Donnie, is an eight bid conference.
06:28I love it.
06:29So eight bid with 12 teams.
06:32So that means the SEC is going to get eight and the big 10 is going to get the rest.
06:36Like it's just hilarious.
06:38Absolutely.
06:39By the way, Joe, that sounds that sounds like my dream scenario.
06:43Eight of the SEC for the big 10.
06:45Nobody else in that.
06:46We don't need the ACC.
06:48We don't need the remnants of the big 12 getting in there.
06:51We don't need any of that stuff.
06:52I'm actually as dumb as it sounds.
06:54You just explained it.
06:55I think it might be the way to go in the future.
06:57What do you think about that?
06:59Listen, when the minute that they started with these mega conferences, right, that was
07:03always the fear where, OK, great.
07:06You're just everything's going to come from these two conferences.
07:08And sure enough, that's the road we're heading.
07:11That is the road we're headed here.
07:12And also a big time road we're headed down this weekend, which starts in Georgia, Joe,
07:17730 p.m. on a Saturday night, Texas versus Georgia, five and a half to sixes across the
07:22board in a total that sits now at 48 and a half.
07:25Hey, Texas, I bet you with you just were hanging out in the big 12 at this point.
07:29Now you're probably undefeated and number one in the country.
07:31But you have two losses.
07:33You're a top 10 team.
07:34You're playing a top five team.
07:36Theoretically, I don't know if we're going to get a three loss team in the college football
07:39playoff.
07:40So if Texas loses, they just might be out here, Joe.
07:43Well, if they lose this one, but beat Texas A&M, then, yeah, they have a really good shot
07:51of actually being a three loss team that's going to get in.
07:55So, yeah, it's not over for them if they lose this one.
07:58But it would certainly go a long way into making sure that no matter what happens in
08:04the upcoming Texas A&M game, it won't matter.
08:07You're likely in as a three loss team anyway.
08:09You should, and you should, by the way, you should be, because they're going to be like,
08:12well, this team has two losses, this has three.
08:14They're not the same.
08:15If you play a cupcake schedule and go undefeated, or you play in the SEC and take two losses,
08:19like the two loss team should theoretically get in.
08:22But most people don't like that.
08:23There's an SEC bias.
08:24Like, I love the Miami Hurricanes.
08:26I cheer for them.
08:27If Miami finishes with two losses and Texas with three, and Texas has that type of resume
08:32put together, I'm putting Texas in over Miami, over my Miami.
08:36Oh, but you only got two losses.
08:37You got three wins and losses matter.
08:39No, they don't.
08:40If you have to tell the full story about how you got those losses or how you got those
08:44wins on an easy schedule here, Oklahoma, Alabama, SEC, 3.30 in the middle of the afternoon
08:50on Saturday, Joe, five and a half to six point line here across the board.
08:53Oklahoma comes to town.
08:55Look at their record, Joe, two losses, Alabama, one loss here.
08:59Could we have an eliminator in this game with a low total of 46 and a half?
09:04It's so weird, Donnie, because the Oklahoma Sooners heading to Tuscaloosa, not something
09:11that we have heard over the years, never seen it.
09:15And now I believe it's the first time that OU is a member of the SEC.
09:19And it's only the second time since 2003 they've actually had to go to Tuscaloosa.
09:25So this is not something we are used to seeing.
09:28But I can tell you, for whatever reason, Donnie, OU are getting a lot of love in the marketplace
09:34here.
09:35I'm going to be very interested to see when the Alabama money starts to hit, because you
09:40and I both know that Alabama money will hit prior to kick.
09:44So if you want to get to Alabama, I would bet it sooner rather than later, because that
09:50money's coming in.
09:51I'll tell you this, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, sneaky game here.
09:56And also, Notre Dame has two losses.
09:58I keep on banking that they're going to be in the college football playoff, because number
10:01one, I'm a realist.
10:02They want Notre Dame in the playoff.
10:03They'll find a way to get them in there with two losses.
10:06But their schedule has been easy.
10:08Seven and two Pitt, though.
10:09Sneaky, sneaky here at home, catching double digits from the fighting Irish, Joe.
10:14Yeah, and this is, you know, this is their national championship, Pittsburgh and Pac-Narduzzi,
10:21right?
10:21I mean, they didn't start the year off great, Donnie, but they made the quarterback switch.
10:26And ever since they did that, they have been on a roll in the ACC.
10:31And my goodness, listen, do I think they're going to upend Notre Dame?
10:34No.
10:35Can they keep this thing close and make them sweat?
10:38Absolutely.
10:40Never ends here in college football.
10:42Well, technically it does.
10:43We had a good Saturday workout here and a lot of intriguing options.
