00:00Let's get started tonight. 12-16. Yeah, that's the date tonight. 9 p.m.
00:04Troy and Jacksonville State. Why this game's on 9 p.m.? I have no idea.
00:08That is terrible, terrible broadcasting, but it is. Troy opened up as a three-and-a-half point favorite.
00:13We're now down to one-and-a-half, Joe, across the board, and a total, which was 50-and-a-half, now sits 49-and-a-half.
00:19Troy, Jacksonville State, live on your television tonight. What's your spread line here?
00:24Well, Donnie, this game here is, of course, the Salute to Veterans Bowl.
00:30And the most, well, the biggest line movement so far in this game has been on the total.
00:36This thing opened up as high as 51-and-a-half and then immediately dropped by nearly five points, Donnie.
00:43Why? Well, we learned that Troy, who lost their starting quarterback, Goose Crowder.
00:48How do you love that? That's a quarterback name right there.
00:50Goose Crowder in the Sunbelt Championship title game against JMU, and nobody thought he was going to be able to play.
00:58Well, as it turns out, Donnie, he is playing, and he is listed as probable.
01:03He's been practicing all week here.
01:05Jacksonville State, what you just saw against my boys at Kennesaw State is exactly the team you're going to get in this game.
01:13So we have seen, obviously, the total tick back up, but we've also seen Troy go from an opening four-point favorite down to about a one, one-and-a-half, even a pick-em in some spots.
01:26The backup quarterback just as capable as Goose Crowder here, but you've got to think that the idea of not having their starting quarterback was what originally caused this line to move.
01:38And if he's not 100%, Donnie, it wouldn't shock me at all if Jacksonville State runs right over them.
01:42You might be watching the NFL on Thursday night, and rightfully so, but how about even more college football bowl season here, Joe?
01:50Missouri State and Arkansas State, another 9 o'clock start.
01:53You've got to be kidding me with this stuff.
01:55The favorite opened up as Arkansas State, Joe, minus two-and-a-half.
01:58Now sits at one-and-a-half, and a total down from the opening number, 56-and-a-half to 54-and-a-half.
02:03Missouri State, Arkansas State, the two states getting after it.
02:06What's your spread line here?
02:07You just got to love this, Donnie, because I'm giving you two bowl games that nobody cares about, right?
02:13But look at these spreads, right?
02:14These spreads here.
02:15Just keep an eye on this before we're going to get to another game that I want to point something out here.
02:20But Missouri State and Arkansas State, while a lot of people on break now in college, Donnie, are likely playing Xbox,
02:27this is the Xbox bowl game, which how cool would that be to go to now that I think about it?
02:32Maybe they give away free remote controls or something.
02:35But listen, Arkansas State and Missouri State, two teams that have played a very similar schedule.
02:43This is very good publicity for both of these conferences, Conference USA as well as the Sun Belt.
02:50But again, this is another one of those games where what you saw all year with these two teams is what you're going to get here.
02:57There's not a ton of opt-outs.
02:58There's not a ton of missing pieces to this, which is why this game is almost a pick-em here.
03:05So not a lot of line movement one way or the other, except we are starting to see some under money come in for this game.
03:12Check the weather out in this one.
03:14Check the weather out in this one on Friday night, or excuse me, Saturday morning, I should say.
03:18Excuse me, Miami, Florida, and Texas A&M.
03:21This line opened up, Joe, as a total of 51.5 still sits there today.
03:24We are expecting a little bit more increased winds of around 15 miles an hour sustained.
03:29Weather temperatures early in the week, we're looking at around 80 degrees or so.
03:32That's dipped a little bit as well to around 75 once we're midway through that game.
03:36The favorite is Texas A&M.
03:37They opened up around a three-and-a-half point favorite.
03:39You see the graphic?
03:40They're still sitting at three-and-a-half as a favorite.
03:43Ticket count pretty close, around 53% on Miami, 47% on Texas A&M.
03:48Joe, what is your spread line for this game, college football playoff style?
03:51Well, I thought it would be a good time to get you an update here on this is one of the more intriguing college football playoff games, Donnie.
03:59And there seems to be a clear pros versus Joes argument here that is shaping up because all of the tickets and the majority of the money, Donnie, have come in on A&M.
04:11But as you pointed out here, we have seen this line go from four, four-and-a-half in an open, and now three-and-a-halves are predominant in a ton of spots.
04:21So you've got tickets and money going towards A&M, but you've got the line moving towards Miami.
04:28What does that tell us?
04:30Well, that tells us the more influential banners are backing Miami, while the public seems to think,
04:35no way can I back Mario Cristobal and the Canes here, but so far, no crazy injury reports or anything along those lines regarding these two teams.
04:45But it's clear the public likes A&M, while the pros seem to be favoring the U.
04:50Let's get on another public play here.
04:52This is going to take place Saturday night at 7.30 p.m.
04:56It's James Madison taking on Oregon.
04:58Line ticket count, I'm seeing Joe, around 60% of those tickets on Oregon.
05:01That line opened up around 20-and-a-half points.
05:03We're now seeing it north of three touchdowns.
05:05Most outlets ringing in at a 21-and-a-half.
05:08Total in this one, 49-and-a-half.
05:10Can JMU hang around?
05:12Or is it an Oregon night, Joe?
05:13What's that spread line for you?
05:15All right.
05:15So, again, I just gave you at the top of this, Donnie, two bowl games, right?
05:20Where the spreads were basically maybe one, two, but mostly a pick-em.
05:26And now I am in a college football playoff game in which I have to try to explain how
05:32James Madison is even here, given the playoff game, and they are getting three touchdowns
05:38to start this game.
05:39Three touchdowns.
05:40Yeah.
05:40And yet, in an Xbox Bowl, it's a pick-em with two teams that are very evenly matched.
05:45And these are supposed to be the best teams the country has to offer playing for a national
05:49championship.
05:51I don't get it.
05:52But you've got Oregon have been pretty good at home, especially against non-conference
05:58teams, Donnie.
05:5911-and-0 straight up, 9-and-2 against the number.
06:01Every one of them double-digit wins.
06:04I thought we would see this line continue to rise.
06:07But believe it or not, Donnie, we are pretty much locked in at 21 here.
06:12I thought for sure we'd get a little bit closer.
06:15It was as high as 23-and-a-half.
06:17I was wondering if it would get to 24, but it's actually come back down.
06:2221 is that key number right now.
06:24Do they win by more than three touchdowns?
06:27If they do, we've got to have a serious talk about this here, Donnie, about this three-touchdown
06:32underdog in a playoff game.
06:35Bowl season here.
06:37Now, hold on.
06:37I need a graphic for this one.
06:38Do we have a graphic up here for Troy State and Jacksonville, what this bowl was actually
06:42called, is it's the, look at it, Joe, IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl.
06:49Now, if you read that quickly, that first word there looks like maybe then doesn't really
06:54associate too well with the veterans here in the military service, if you catch my drift.
06:58But Troy and JSU today, one-and-a-half point favorite for Troy, 49-and-a-half as a total,
07:03Joe.
07:05I'm getting upset with this, Joe, because you know what?
07:07Tomorrow, we've got a bowl game that starts at 5 o'clock.
07:08I can get down with that.
07:09A 9 o'clock bowl game for Troy and Jacksonville State.
07:12Correct me if I'm wrong.
07:13This isn't the 2006 NCAA championship between, like, you know, Florida and Ohio State, where
07:20we're going to wake up till 9 o'clock.
07:22Stop with the 9 o'clock, but what do we got tonight, Joe, for Troy and Jacksonville State?
07:26Well, you know, Jacksonville State, we have talked about on the show before, Donnie, Conference
07:32USA.
07:32They lost in the title game there, the Kennesaw State, and we saw Troy in the title game for
07:38the Sun Belt, right?
07:40And they lost, but gave JMU all they could handle, because that was actually a pretty good
07:45game right up until the last couple of minutes there when things went off the rails.
07:50But don't forget, Troy, this is now a second-year head coach there for Troy.
07:55We told you there were some question marks about the starting quarterback who got hurt
08:00in that game against JMU, but it looks like he is going to go here.
08:06And styles make fights here.
08:07This is all about both these teams are going to have the same quarterbacks, the same group,
08:12core group of guys that we saw them in the championship games with.
08:16And the reason, look at the spread, Donnie.
08:18I think it tells you everything you need to know.
08:20It's a coin flip game.
08:21These two teams are very similar, and okay, Sun Belt versus Conference USA, both of these
08:29teams lost in their conference championships.
08:32I think that Jacksonville State, if Troy can't stop the run, Jacksonville State is going to
08:36run all over them and eventually win this game.
08:41By the way, what does it cost to sponsor a bowl game these days?
08:43Like, hey, you know, we were sponsored by IS4S.
08:46I'm not even looking that up.
08:47I don't even care what that actually means at this point.
08:49So how much money do they actually spend?
08:51The reason why I bring that up, Joe, is the next game we're going to talk about is Old
08:55Dominion versus South Florida.
08:57So down with that, the five o'clock game tomorrow.
09:00This is the staff DNA cure bowl here.
09:04Like, does it cost like $30 to now sponsor games?
09:06Like, everything in this country, like prices are rising.
09:09I think bowl prices to sponsor it are absolutely crashed down at their lowest levels ever, where
09:14I don't even understand who's sponsoring these bowl games anymore.
09:18It's crazy, right?
09:19The staff DNA cure bowl.
09:22Yes, staff DNA cure bowl.
09:25I would have loved to have seen this game during the regular season when both teams and starting
09:32quarterbacks for both these teams would have played in these games.
09:35But unfortunately, that's not what's going to happen here.
09:39I had told you the, you know, the Old Dominion Monarchs, their quarterback, this kid, Colton
09:43Joseph, I mean, had a huge year.
09:45The kid was so much fun to watch over, you know, 2,700 yards throwing, over 1,000 yards
09:51rushing.
09:52And now he enters the transfer portal and he won't play in this game against South Florida.
09:57And we know Byron Brown, the quarterback for USF, right?
10:01Fantastic.
10:024,100 yards of offense, put up 43 points per game this year.
10:08He's not going to play in this game.
10:10The head coach is now no longer there.
10:13So, you know, this is one of those games, Donnie, where you tread very carefully because
10:18this game is being played and it's all about what to see next year.
10:23But ODU, Ricky Rain, the coach, he'll be back next year.
10:29Still some question marks about who's going to be leading it next year for South Florida.
10:34So, advantage to me is Old Dominion.
10:36By the way, like, staff DNA, I assume, is the company's.
10:40But this thing was always called the Cure Bowl?
10:42What does that even mean?
10:45The Cure Bowl, I believe, was always the name.
10:47I don't know what staff DNA is.
10:49That's new to me.
10:50That's all new.
10:51No, I don't ever remember that.
10:54Let's get a new one here, Joe.
10:56Louisiana and Delaware, sponsor of this bowl game, 68 Ventures.
10:59Sounds like a dispensary here in New Jersey at this point.
11:02But the favorite is Louisiana, minus two and a half in Delaware, 61 and a half.
11:06These bowl games are getting better and better with the sponsors as we go, Joe.
11:1268 Ventures Bowl.
11:14That sounds fun, Donnie.
11:16But at least this is a bowl game in which what you see is what Louisiana, Lafayette, and Delaware, to last check, Donnie, no opt-outs.
11:26So, for the most part, we've got two mediocre teams at six and six taking on each other here.
11:32And they are going to be just as mediocre as they were during the regular season.
11:37So, but at least you don't have to try to mix and match.
11:40You can handicap this based upon the season-long stats, Donnie, because it's going to be exactly the same teams, quarterbacks, coaches, everything else.
11:47So, for the most part, what you see is what you get in this game.
11:51Like, when you're growing up and you made a bowl game in college football, like, hey, come home to the family.
11:56What bowl games are you?
11:57The Independence Bowl.
11:58We played in the, you know, the Peach Bowl.
12:01Or just, like, something along those lines.
12:03Like, hey, man, we made a bowl game.
12:05Where'd you go this year?
12:0668 Ventures Bowl.
12:07Like, that doesn't count.
12:08Like, that doesn't count.
12:09Peach Bowl, Blue Bonnet Bowl, the Garden State Bowl, which actually played, I believe, in the late 1970s at Giants State.
12:15Imagine going there.
12:16But now we have the Pinstripe Bowl playing in ice-cold conditions as well.
12:19The college football playoff will begin this week, Joe.
12:22And that's going to start on Friday night, 8 p.m., Alabama and Oklahoma.
12:26Alabama on the road is a slight favorite at minus 1.5 and a super low total of 40.5 points.
12:33People can't kick Alabama, but maybe it's, well, Oklahoma's offense stinks.
12:37You know, Alabama could at least maybe be able to move the football here.
12:40Yeah, and the line swings are interesting in this game, Donnie,
12:43because it's almost as if the oddsmakers can't figure out who should be favored.
12:47Should it be Oklahoma?
12:48Should it be Alabama?
12:49Should it be Oklahoma?
12:50Like, they're having a very hard time figuring this one out here because we've seen both here
12:57since this game was announced.
12:58But, listen, I think you just have to look at this and go, number one, yes, we know OU has one of the best defenses in the country.
13:10But are they capable enough of scoring enough points in this game?
13:14Can they beat Alabama for a second time in the same season?
13:18All things being equal, likely offense is going to be needed in this game, and I think Alabama has an overall OU.
13:25Yeah, they probably do.
13:27Like, I'm looking towards that Alabama side here.
13:29Should be a fun game to watch it play out.
13:30Like the fact it's like that appetizer for a monster weekend where they give you a really good college football playoff game on a Friday night.
13:37Not a 21-and-a-half-point number, which they probably could have stuck Oregon there and JMU.
13:41But did we miss an opportunity, Joe, to maybe, you know, make that a point game?
13:45Alabama-Oklahoma from the 69 Ventures Dust Bowl.
13:49How about that?
13:50One up with you, 68 Ventures.
13:52More hot topics coming up next.
13:54I like that.
13:54Only getting started.
13:55Let's go.
