00:00hey guys welcome back to the prices once again this is your host and gamer and today's video

00:08gonna be doing yet another movie review right now keeping up with the monsterverse series i'm going

00:15to be reviewing kong skull island as a you know pre prepping for the upcoming culture versus kong

00:24which is coming out next month all right now here's the thing right we've seen several iterations

00:35of kong from the past both japan and hollywood and then we got the legitimate one from 2005 that was

00:44the one that stayed true to the original story as you can remember it was like a sort of love story

00:51and sort of not a love story no but it was done pretty well and but here we are in a monsterverse

01:01kong skull island is more about the whole storyline they have set up with monarch and you know those

01:09other corporations and such that was introduced in the 2014 godzilla but since kong skull and takes

01:17place before that back in the 70s you know you're getting a much more different look and i really

01:24like that from this movie like it didn't try to do more of what the 2005 kongs did it itself is kong

01:34it's different where it focus more on the like the history behind kong and its uh background and all

01:42that stuff out skull island and not to mention it it had some decent characters if i compare this to

01:482014 gods i think this one had better characters but they also had better actors as well a much more

01:56staff started cast to go along with it you know so but anyways let's just get into the storyline quick

02:02here right the film takes us with and it's actually world war ii you have um these two guys who are

02:12fighting each other and then kong shows up grand entrance right i got ready to start the movie

02:20then they go fast forward to the 70s which is a person being in this timeline you see all these

02:26characters being introduced you have the scientists this researcher these other guys talking about

02:33the island and you know they they start like giving you the introduction of the plot and

02:40stuff on what they're going to do so basically there's this theory about the hollow earth which is

02:48it actually goes beyond the actual monster verse but in the monster verse the theory is about

02:54the earth hollow and you have monsters and ancient civilizations living inside the earth for

03:00thousands of years some of which they went extinct others just went dormant and all that stuff and

03:07the stuff about the island skull island having secrets to unlocking that or probably proving the

03:16hollow earth theory and such and all these different creatures and everything so they assemble these a

03:23team this way you get introduced to your stastered cast right you have samuel jackson then you have tom

03:30hilton and you have billowson before she got all crazy cuckoo you know and you had many other actors

03:40amongst several others but those are the main ones i can really point to in terms of their popularity

03:45along with john goodman who was the searcher now what happened here is they sort of follow a similar

03:50structure to 2014 god so they introduced the characters but they actually introduce you to them a bit

03:58more um then they give you a small brief run sure what they're going to do they're going to kong island

04:05and then they're going to do all this stuff on the island they're going to basically test one test to

04:11find out of the um structure of the island and everything and that's the scene you see from the

04:16trailer where they start bombing up a place which is a bit extreme obviously you know destroying wildlife

04:22and injuring um animals and plants and all that stuff and obviously you know this pisses off kong

04:29he comes out of the work and he starts ramming up and demolishing these people like crazy this is where

04:37the action kicks in right and this is what i love about this kong movie versus the older kong movie right

04:44and even compared to the 2014 godzilla you you get introduced to kong like early in the movie

04:51you know just get the um the introduction then you see him going to the island and all that stuff and

04:57all that quick rundown and then kong shows up um the next thing too is that kong here is bigger so

05:04they're already setting the stage for him coming up to his encounter with godzilla right he's they're already

05:10stout that he's bigger than the previous version of kong about a hundred feet i think they get into

05:16the scofford kong then they get separated from other damages a lot of people got injured some got killed

05:22even eaten alive whatever and then they have to like make their way back and what happens here is

05:29you have two groups you have the group with samuel jackson and his crew they're crazy for revenge they go

05:36back to the other craft set to get um like ammunition whatever and plan their next move

05:44then you have the other crew with um tom hiddleston and bill larson they go their own way i don't try and

05:51meet up with survivors but then you run into this tribe right and then this introduces the character

05:57of john c riley's character which in my opinion is probably the best written character in the movie

06:03um he's the one who was introduced in the beginning of the movie fight to another japanese guy right so

06:09this is him here and he's older and he's played by john c riley what happens is that he did this is

06:16it's all like an exposition dump in a way right he explains to you about kong's family and the species

06:23and then you get into this about the skull callers which are like the the big baddies in the island that you

06:28know the big gangsters in a way this is interesting right because here you have these skull callers they

06:33are dinosaurs that just have feet they don't really have any arms they're just feet and tails right so

06:41there's a different type of scenery here um there is clips though you see kong doing other stuff and

06:48fighting some of them which are pretty bad as i'll say now here you enter the final act where the big

06:54children comes into play with you see the characters um they do this thing where they

07:02bill ellison's character get to interact with kong and they feel like made this like human connection

07:08or something and i find it was like pretty nonsensical like i mean i think it was probably

07:13to um you know make kong look oh yeah he he's not entirely a bad guy he's he's a good guy you know he

07:20can get on with the humans you know that sort of stuff that they do i remember they did that in the

07:24past movies but i will give props to them believe they did not do it in a sense like a love interest

07:31sort of way more so of a protector because as much i would say i like the original story of kong

07:40the love interest aspect of it was pretty cringe to tell the truth so i like the fact that they

07:46move away from that right but what happened to that samuel jackson is crazy ass right he might

07:54should set up this sort of like trap i'll say to fight kong because he's just crazy for revenge

08:04and he ends up getting himself killed it's crazy enough right what happened is the big ass score

08:11call comes up this is like the king of the score comes up the fight kong and it knocks kong down

08:18and then it starts running and more crazy all over the place right and you remember the skull

08:26callers are the species that are responsible for eliminating kong's species and family right so they're

08:33there not as your average giant monster they can do damage and now you're going to do that

08:41where the other characters these two teams they they meet up they're all what's left of the um two teams

08:48they either try to meet up to um say guilty island right there's this boat right watch uh bulk and

08:57ship whatever you can salvage you get off the skull callers are coming after them though so it's pretty

09:03crazy crazy and kong comes out of nowhere start bashing in on them now long story short it basically

09:16ends with kong beating the um the creature in an epic fashion i would say um although he did get assist

09:24from the humans um after that they wrap up the movie in your typical you know blockbuster fashion

09:31and he also ends up with some inquiries and poor skullets right the first one was they show you

09:40john c riley's character being able to meet uh his family and his kid that he hasn't seen in like

09:4730 years or something and it's like gives you like a conclusion to his character in a way right

09:55and then they cut in the next cut scene you have the monarch guys interviewing tom hilson and b larson's

10:07character about you know the stuff that happened on the island and it's sort of i'd say it's sort of an

10:16interrogation this is where the tease the next movie cuts like you know the monsters which i've

10:22reviewed a long time ago and i will say that movie is meh to put lightly right now the appearance of

10:31the plot overall for kongskill island and overall good movie in fact great movie i think it's the

10:38so far at this point is the best entry in the monsterverse you know the characters are actually

10:44not all that annoying the action it has a lot of action in it and the movie is not that long right it's

10:51it has good pace although they could have taken out some scenes here and there the cgi has done

10:58pretty well you know for um for daylight shots um you know it looks pretty good very convincing you

11:06know it's you know the whole scene it's harder to animate um cgi for daytime shots and a good example

11:13that is pacific rim and pacific rim 2 right but this movie actually matches to pull it off and make it look

11:20good so i'll give them props for that it looks good it sounds good the soundtrack's banger there's

11:28some good acting here and there um like i said um the characters while they are not all that bad here

11:37they could use a bit more for them a bit more writing i mean so far only john c riley's character was

11:44had like the most out of it but the others got done a bit more but then you had like a longer movie

11:52because of that so i guess that was a trade-off right but it still did the characters better than

11:59the other monsterverse movies in happening especially king of the monsters right now i'm going

12:07into sum up this movie guys um kong skull island i'll give this an 8.5 out of 10. it's great actually

12:17um it doesn't quite hit the mark compared to the 2005 kong but it does things better than that movie

12:25and makes itself a much more enjoyable experience and also it does end up being the best engine in the

12:31monsterverse to date right and that could change with upcoming movies but as it stands now this movie

12:38is as good as you can get in the monsterverse you know right so there i guess i guess a clear sums up

12:44my review of kong skull island overall great movie there's a little bit of fault here and there but

12:50overall great movie right so there and i played sums up my review right but let me know what you think
